'I have always had that dream': Dean Henderson sets sights on ousting David de Gea as Manchester United's long-term No 1

* The Sheffield United shot-stopper is currently on loan from the Red Devils
* Dean Henderson's fine form could see him replace David de Gea at Man United
* The 22-year-old has won plenty of plaudits for his performances this campaign
* Henderson has also been tipped to start for England in this summer's Euro 2020

Dean Henderson is hoping to oust David de Gea as Manchester United's No 1 goalkeeper.

The Sheffield United shot-stopper is currently on loan from the Red Devils.

His fine form has sparked a debate over whether he should be ahead of De Gea in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Henderson told the Kelly and Wrighty show: 'The big dream is to play for Manchester United one day.

'I've always had that dream throughout my life so until that's accomplished I'll never think I've made it.

'Even if I play for them once I won't think I've made it. I need to play for them 500 times, 300 times, whatever it is, then you can turnaround at the end of your career and say, "I made it, I did what I set out to do".'

The 22-year-old is tied with Liverpool's Alisson Becker and Burnley keeper Tom Pope on nine clean sheets this season, and has won plenty of plaudits for his outings this campaign.

Henderson has also been tipped to start for the national side in this summer's Euro 2020 tournament, with doubts growing over No 1 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Paris Saint-Germain plotting shock summer move for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson as he shines on loan at Sheffield United

* Paris Saint-Germain have entered the race to sign Dean Henderson this summer
* The Manchester United keeper has impressed during his loan at Sheffield United
* Chelsea, Sheffield United and Tottenham are also interested in the 22-year-old
* United view him as a future No 1 with David de Gea currently standing in his way

Paris Saint-Germain are planning a summer approach for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

French giants PSG have joined Chelsea, Tottenham and Sheffield United in keeping a close eye on United's intentions for Henderson beyond this season.

The mounting interest in the 22-year-old has added to the Old Trafford club's dilemma.

Henderson has pushed his claims for a return to United, who view him as a future No 1, as well as a place in England's Euro 2020 squad during an impressive second season-long loan at Sheffield United.

But standing in his way is United's current first choice goalkeeper David De Gea who signed a new contract last summer that will run until 2023 at least.

His suitors are now circling to see if they can take advantage of the situation and prise him away from his boyhood club. PSG have identified Henderson as they look to evolve their squad by bringing in younger players.

Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson this summer. Henderson's impressed on loan at Sheffield United and has drawn interest from several clubs. Manchester United view him as a future No 1 with David de Gea currently standing in his way

Chelsea want a new challenger for their No 1 position admit doubts over Kepa Arrizabalaga, a world record £72m signing in 2018, who has struggled to convince at Stamford Bridge and has been dropped for their last two games.

Spurs, meanwhile, are also preparing for changes in their goalkeeping department this summer. They are currently planning to bring in a new back-up keeper with Michel Vorm due to leave when his short-term deal expires at the end of the season.

Though with captain Hugo Lloris aged 33 Henderson would represent a long-term successor. Sheffield United boss, Chris Wilder, meanwhile, has been open about his hopes of re-signing Henderson for another campaign next season.

Dean Henderson promises Sheffield United loan return if he is not guaranteed No 1 spot at Manchester United as Englishman makes strong case to start at Euros

* Dean Henderson has told team-mates he will be back on loan next season
* The Blades goalkeeper wants a guaranteed starting spot at Manchester United
* Henderson is the league's in-form keeper and is making his case for the Euros
* Jordan Pickford is England No 1 but Henderson's form cannot go unnoticed

Dean Henderson has told his Sheffield United team-mates he will be back on loan at the club next season if he is not guaranteed a starting role at Manchester United.

To that end, his parent club have a big decision to make this summer. The likelihood is that David de Gea, having signed a new contract in September, will remain at Old Trafford and retain his No.1 jersey.

Real Madrid, however, have again been linked with a summer move for the Spaniard, whose reliability continues to be questioned.

Dean Henderson will return to Sheffield United on loan if he is not handed Man United No 1 role

That is one criticism you cannot aim at Henderson. He is the Premier League's outstanding goalkeeper on current form and, by the time he returns to United in May, is almost certain to be an England international.

It would be a bold move, but cashing in on De Gea and installing Henderson as first choice would generate funds for investment elsewhere.

But forget the monetary incentive - there is every chance Henderson will emerge as a better goalkeeper than De Gea over the course of the next 12 months anyway.

Henderson is the Premier League's in-form goalkeeper with a host of standout performances. The Englishman has flourished with the Blades but wants guarantees over his future

Billy Sharp - match-winner against Norwich on Saturday - clearly rates his 22-year-old team-mate.

'I'm certain he'll be England's number one soon,' said Sharp. 'He has to be with his performances - and he wants to be as well.'

Of Henderson's future, Sharp said: 'We're not in his ear about it, we don't need to be.

'He wants to come back. He wants to play for Man United, obviously - he's not going to lie - but if he can't do that he wants to play for Sheffield United.'

Henderson made a treble save late on against Norwich to protect three points and his 10th clean sheet of the season.

Like all of the best goalkeepers, he boasts an unashamed belief in his own ability.

'He's a confident boy and he's not shy, but he backs it up,' said Blades boss Chris Wilder.

'He has a huge desire to take his game to the very top. He is doing the absolute maximum to be the best he possibly can.'

Which United it is who benefit from that forecast improvement next season remains to be seen.

Jika memang De Gea bakal dilepas maka skenarionya menurut saya adalah Romero naik jadi kiper pertama sementara Dean Henderson kiper kedua. Kiper ketiga sepertinya sih tetap Lee Grant

Selama masih ada De Gea di United, peluang bagi Den Henderson mungkin tidak berbeda jauh dengan Lee Grant yang sulit menembus tim utama meskipun hanya sebatas kiper kedua sekalipun.. Semangat Dean Henderson !

MU Takkan Jual Dean Henderson Musim Depan
Adhi Prasetya - detikSport

Manchester - Dean Henderson disiapkan menjadi kiper masa depan Manchester United.

Berstatus tim promosi, Sheffield dibawanya menduduki peringkat ketujuh klasemen sementara Liga Inggris.

Manchester United yet to decide Dean Henderson future

Keeper's loan at Bramall Lane ends on June 30

Manchester United are yet to decide if they will allow England prospect Dean Henderson to extend his loan spell at Sheffield United.

In a scenario which looked impossible at the start of the season, both Uniteds are rivals in the race for a Champions League spot and a potential £60m prize pot.

Henderson has enjoyed a magnificent season, keeping 10 clean sheets and earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate's full England squad.

With discussions continuing over a return to Premier League action next month, officials at Bramall Lane are keen to learn if Henderson's year-long loan can be extended beyond June 30 when it runs out.

Across the Pennines, Manchester United have stalled on a decision to date, until a revised calendar of fixtures is agreed.

With so much at stake, pressure may mount on executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stop such a pivotal member of the Blades squad from staying longer than has been agreed.

According to The Sun, Premier League shareholders discussed the potential of extending loans beyond June at their meeting last Friday, insisting a player and both clubs involved would have to be in agreement before any loan could be extended.

If games recommence in mid-June, the 23-year old could potentially play around half of the Blades' league games before his loan ended. One game, however, he will definitely miss is the Blades' trip to Old Trafford - for which he is ineligible.

Chris Wilder's men are one of four teams with 10 league games left to play - their fixture against Aston Villa was postponed due to their appearance in the Carabao Cup final.

The Blades could also have to factor in the potential of a continued cup run, starting with a home quarter-final tie against Arsenal.

Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck has backed team-mate Henderson for the very top, insisting the on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper has what it takes to fulfil his dream of becoming No. 1 for club and country.

"He's been amazing and he's still a young boy," Fleck said, in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports' Kris Boyd.

"He's kept clean sheets, made some massive saves for us, kept us in games at times. I'm sure he's going to have a massive career ahead of him.

"He'll quite openly tell you he wants to be Manchester United's No. 1 and England's No. 1 as quick as possible. I don't think, personally, he's too far away from that now.

"Goalkeepers are a bit crazy - he's a bit mad at times! But he's got that big personality.

"When he's maybe made a mistake and the manager has criticised him, he's bounced back straight away. That's just the personality he's got and I'm sure that's what will get him to the top."

Blades boss Chris Wilder raised some eyebrows when he publicly criticised Henderson following a rare gaffe that cost his side against Liverpool early in the season but Wilder has since defended his approach, highlighting Henderson's mental toughness as one of several credentials he believes can make him the best in the country.

Speaking to Sky Sports on The Football Show, Wilder said: "Dean Henderson wants to be an international goalkeeper, win 50-odd caps, play for Manchester United. He's going to have to put up with disappointment. That's how it is. But I talked to Dean afterwards. The players know I'm their biggest supporter and backer."

Asked whether he had the potential to be England's top choice, Wilder added: "Yes, 100 per cent. He's pushing now and he's a young boy.

"He's a charismatic young guy but the biggest thing is that he's got the mental strength and a brilliant attitude and ability. I'm sure he'll gain that shirt he's desperate to get."

'Man United want him to finish the season': Chris Wilder is hopeful Dean Henderson will finish the campaign at Sheffield United as he heaps praise on the 'outstanding' goalkeeper

* Chris Wilder hopes Dean Henderson will finish the season at Sheffield United
* He is currently on loan from Manchester United but his contract is due to expire
* Henderson has made 76 appearances, keeping 32 clean sheets at Sheffield Utd

Chris Wilder is confident that Dean Henderson will finish the season at Sheffield United as he heaps praise on the 'outstanding' goalkeeper.

Henderson has been on loan with the Blades since the start of the 2018-2019 season, and has made 76 appearances, keeping 32 clean sheets.

His loan contract is due to expire at the end of June, but with the Premier League finishing later than expected due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is believed that Manchester United will extend his loan spell.

In an interview with The Gary Newbon Sport Show on Punching.TV, Wilder said: ‘One of the things that’s been talked about is the expiry of loans. We’re hopeful of extending the loan, I know Dean wants it to be extended and I’m sure Man United want him to finish the season.

‘They’ve been great with us. Our reputation when we take players has been good, I thought this is a good football club for the big clubs to send their young players to.

‘We’ve had relationships with Chelsea, Spurs, Man United and obviously, Dean has been outstanding for us, broken into the England squad.

‘We’re hopeful that’ll be extended and I think the importance of having a top-class goalie has been key for our results this year.'

The Englishman's strong displays for loan club Sheffield United has helped them enjoy an extraordinary season.

As it stands, Wilder's men sit seventh in the Premier League and only five points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Chris Wilder hopes Dean Henderson will finish the Premier League season at Sheffield United. Wilder has heaped praise on the 'outstanding' goalkeeper for keeping 32 clean sheets

Sheffield United are in pursuit of a Champions League place, with United being their biggest competitor.

United currently occupy fifth place, but Sheffield United have a game in hand and are only two points behind.

Should they push United off fifth place, they could be awarded a spot in the tournament, given that Manchester City are currently banned from the tournament by UEFA for financial fair play breaches.

Despite the ongoing battle between Manchester United and Sheffield United for a European spot, Wilder is confident that Henderson will be allowed to continue at Bramall Lane when the Premier League returns.

Should Henderson extend his contract, he will face Aston Villa on June 17 in their first game back after the football hiatus.

Dean Henderson on the verge of extending loan deal at Sheffield United until the end of the season, confirms Chris Wilder - after positive talks between Blades boss and Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Dean Henderson's loan deal at Sheffield United is due to expire on June 30
* But an extension until the end of the season into July will be finalised this week
* Chris Wilder held positive discussions with Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Wilder thanked his opposite number for being so accommodating to his club

An extension to Dean Henderson's loan deal at Sheffield United will be finalised in the 'next couple of days', says Blades manager Chris Wilder.

Henderson's loan at Bramall Lane from Manchester United is due to expire on June 30, with this season's Premier League extending into July to the coronavirus crisis which paused football for three months.

But after positive talks between Wilder and Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, an extension to the loan is expected to be confirmed before Sheffield Utd open up the Premier League restart at Aston Villa on Wednesday.

‘I spoke to Ole yesterday [Sunday] morning, I know he was at the training ground preparing his team and I thanked him for his cooperation with Dean,' Wilder told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

'We’re in the process over the next couple of days of finalising Dean staying with us till the end of the season.

'The manager was brilliant with me and our football club. He was very pro Dean staying and delighted with what he’s produced for us and what we’ve done for Dean as well.

Dean Henderson, on loan at Sheffield Utd from Manchester Utd, is set to extend his loan deal. Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed a deal to the end of the season will be finalised soon. Positive talks on Henderson's future have been held between Wilder and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

'That can’t go understated in terms of the opportunities we’ve given Dean to play Premier League football.

'And certainly Dean has hugely been involved with our performances over the last two years and we’ve been delighted with him.'

Henderson, 23, will be involved in the first game back of Project Restart, at Villa Park on Wednesday night, as Sheffield United restart their bid for a shock Champions League place.

Solskjaer said over the weekend that Henderson has proved that he will be United and England No 1 at some point in the future.

'For me it doesn't matter when the season ends. The Sheffield United team this season has consisted of Dean in goal so he should be allowed to complete it,' said Solskjaer, whose current No 1 at United is David de Gea.

'It's not been decided in terms of where Dean is going to be next season. This season has proved a great experience for him, he's done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England's no 1 and Man United's no 1 at some point.

'It's not my job to keep the players happy or in the team or out of it. Part of it is their responsibility of performing and doing well. Dean has made some great choices over the years and developed fantastically - and still is.'
