Default Danny Rose

Manchester United confident they will land Tottenham left back Danny Rose for £50m in January or next summer

* Jose Mourinho believes Danny Rose will be Manchester United's next left back
* The United boss is increasingly confident of signing the Tottenham ace for £50m
* Tottenham refused to sell Rose in summer after losing Kyle Walker to Man City

Jose Mourinho believes Danny Rose will become Manchester United's next first-choice left back in a £50million deal.

The United boss is increasingly confident of landing the England defender next month or during the summer transfer window.

United were keen on the Tottenham player last summer but missed out as he was recovering from a long-term knee injury and Mauricio Pochettino refused to sell two full backs after off-loading Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

Manchester United are targeting a £50m January deal for Tottenham left back Danny Rose. Jose Mourinho wants a new left back after relying heavily on veteran Ashley Young this season. Rose irked Tottenham chiefs by criticising their wage structure in an interview with The Sun

However, Rose's position at Spurs has become less certain since the summer. His interview with The Sun newspaper in which he questioned the club's wage structure and admitted that he'd consider a move away is known to have irked the Tottenham hierarchy.

He has also been omitted from match-day squads — including last month's north London derby. Although Pochettino insists he has no problem with the defender, Spurs may be willing to listen to offers for Rose in January or next summer.

United admit that agreeing a deal with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy — a very tough negotiator — will be an arduous task.

Ashley Young, primarily an attacking player, is currently filling the left-back role, while Luke Shaw, a £28million capture from Southampton, is clearly not fancied by Mourinho.

Default Re: Danny Rose

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho furious over club's reluctance to seal £40m deal for Tottenham defender Danny Rose

* Jose Mourinho wants to sign a world-class left-back in the January window * The Manchester United boss sees Tottenham's Danny Rose as an ideal fit
* Rose has made no secret of the fact that he would welcome a move
* The United hierarchy, on the other hand, believe Luke Shaw can do the job
* The situation is contributing to an increasingly tense relationship with Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is frustrated over Manchester United’s reluctance to make a £40million move for Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

The situation is contributing to Mourinho’s increasingly tense relationship with the Old Trafford board as he waits to see if they will back him in the transfer window this month.

The United manager wants to sign a world-class left-back and sees Rose, 27, as an ideal fit.

Ashley Young, a converted winger, is United’s first-choice in that position after Mourinho decided that Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are not up to the job.

The United hierarchy, on the other hand, believe Shaw can still be a success despite struggling for form and fitness since his £30m move from Southampton in 2014.

It’s understood that they want to let Shaw develop further and sign a left-back for the future. A number of options are being considered including Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon.

With Young currently serving a three-match ban after switching to the right to deputise for the injured Antonio Valencia, Shaw has started the last three Premier League games and is not expected to be sold this month.

But Mourinho has made it clear to the board that his priority in the coming months is to sign a left-back, a central midfielder to replace Michael Carrick and a winger after missing out on Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic in the summer.

Jose Mourinho is growing increasingly frustrated over Manchester United’s transfer plans. The Portuguese boss wants to sign Tottenham's Danny Rose in the January transfer window. English defender Rose has made no secret of the fact that he would welcome a move. The United hierarchy, on the other hand, believe Luke Shaw can do the job at left-back

He wants players like Rose who can make an immediate impact and improve the team.

In theory, the £45m earmarked for Perisic is still available to Mourinho as part of a £80m transfer budget.

However, United are reluctant to make any panic buys in January as Manchester City run away with the title race and would prefer to wait until the summer when they will know if the club have qualified for the Champions League.

Mourinho admitted last week that he does not expect to make any signings this month, and is believed to be unhappy with United’s recruitment process which involves a number of departments reporting to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

The 54-year-old is also understood to be concerned over United’s ambition and feels that his employers will be happy to finish in the top-four.

United, on the other hand, are perturbed over their manager’s public comments over transfers in recent weeks and will not be pressured into spending more.

Mourinho acknowledged last week that the board have backed him to the tune of £260m over three transfer windows, including £165m spent on Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

But he believes that it still falls short of some of his rivals and made a pointed reference to Pep Guardiola signing three new full-backs at City last summer.

‘The problem is not the money we invest, the problem is the money the others invest,’ said Mourinho.

‘It’s the problem that others with better squads, with better stability, with more options, they keep investing.’
