Nemanja Matic 'set for showdown talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer' as he demands clarity on his future after losing place in Man United's starting XI

* Nemanja Matic is set to discuss his Man United future with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* The veteran midfielder has fallen out of favour under the Norwegian manager
* Scott McTominay is the preferred option in three opening Premier League games
* Matic has sat on the bench for each clash and now wants his future resolved

Nemanja Matic is set to sit down with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for clear-the-air talks as he looks to get some clarity on his future at Manchester United.

The 31-year-old is yet to play any minutes in the Premier League season, with Solskjaer leaning on Scott McTominay when it comes to defensive duties in midfield.

According to the Mirror, Matic is now demanding showdown talks with his Norwegian boss after losing his place in United's starting XI.

It has been clear that Solskjaer is putting a strong emphasis on promoting youth going forward at United, with the club waving goodbye to both Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in the space of six months.

The writing may be on the wall for the Serbian who was a firm favourite under Solskjaer's predecessor, Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho brought Matic in from Chelsea in a £40million deal back in 2017, after the pair enjoyed plenty of success at Stamford Bridge.

Nemanja Matic is set to discuss his Manchester United future with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The midfielder has fallen out of favour under Solskjaer after not featuring once this season. Solskjaer has preferred Scott McTominay as the defensive option in midfield for United

However, Matic has not started under Solskjaer since the first week of May last season when United were beaten Huddersfield, who were relegated to the Championship shortly thereafter.

Should Solskjaer and Matic not see eye-to-eye over his future, United may be forced to sell the midfielder before September 2 as a number of clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United fear Luke Shaw could be out for five weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old pulled up during the first half of Saturday's defeat to Crystal Palace and was replaced by Ashley Young.

Scans have since confirmed he is facing at least a month on the sidelines ruling him out of Premier League games against former club Southampton, Leicester City, West Ham and Arsenal.

The news comes as a blow to Solskjaer as he looks to get his side back on track at Southampton this weekend following an indifferent start to the season.

mungkin karena Ole lebih percaya ke pemain muda, Lingard & Peirera yg penampilannya biasa2 saja masih dimainkan. kalopun Pogba diduetkan sama Tominay saya mending pilih Mata dibelakang striker, atau kalo mandek dibabak II Pogba yg lebih didorong ke depan, Mata diganti Matic duet sama Tominay IMO

'There is no problem': Nemanja Matic denies feud with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite liking Instagram post from fan which said 'I am beginning to hate Ole'

* Nemanja Matic liked a comment on Instagram criticising Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* The Red Devils midfielder has only played 22 minutes this season for his club
* He was an unused substitute for the first three league games of the campaign

Nemanja Matic has denied he has a problem with Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Serbia international liked a comment on Instagram which read: 'Matic If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn't want to feature you in his team please leave the team, I think that man is myopic that he doesn't know he needs you in the midfield. I am beginning to hate Ole.'

The Red Devils midfielder has only played 22 minutes this season, having come off the bench in United's 1-1 draw to Southampton last weekend.

He was an unused substitute for the first three league games of the campaign.

Matic insists there is not a problem with Solskjaer, however.

The 31-year-old told Goal: 'I work as hard as I can, we respect the decision, it is mine to show him that he was wrong and to bring me back to where I belong.

'There is no problem. I told him I disagreed with him, but that he had to decide the team.

'I have been in football for a long time, I have played almost all the games for all the clubs in the last 10 years.

'In order for me to play, one had to sit on the bench and accept that fact, and so do I now.

'The coach must opt for the team that will fight for the title, and if he does not win, he bears the responsibility.'

Matic: Salah Solskjaer Jika MU Gagal Juara Musim Ini
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detikSport

Jika performa MU tak kunjung membaik hingga akhir musim, maka mereka terancam menyudahi musim tanpa gelar.

'It doesn't matter if they are 18 or 35, we can see who is ready': Nemanja Matic praises Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for putting faith in Man United youngsters

* Nemanja Matic made his first start of the Premier League campaign on Saturday
* Matic filled in for the injured Paul Pogba as the Serb has lost his first-team spot
* The ex-Chelsea star has no qualms with his manager's decision to play youth

Nemanja Matic has publicly backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to invest in young players despite his philosophy impacting his own career.

Matic was handed his first Premier League start of the season in Manchester United's 1-0 win over Leicester at the weekend as Solskjaer had decided to put his faith in Scott McTominay.

With Paul Pogba injured, Matic was given the opportunity to line up alongside McTominay in United's engine room after starting on the bench in the four previous league games.

Nemanja Matic has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to invest in youth players. Solskjaer has promoted the likes of Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong into the first team

And despite his apparent demotion, Matic is backing Solskjaer to continue to field youngsters if they are good enough.

The 31-year-old, speaking to Manchester Evening News, said: 'I think in this season the people from the club they can see who is ready to play already in a high level.

'It doesn't matter if they are 18 or 25 or 35 we can see who is ready and who is not and who will be important for the future. I am happy for them. I like to see young players on the pitch and hopefully they can bring us some fresh energy for the rest of the season.

'I don't believe in age, good players or bad players. It doesn't matter if you are 18 or 35, so I think who played today deserved to play.

'The most important thing was the team took three points and what we did is great and I am happy for the young players, they get the opportunity to play here, it’s not always the case in big clubs, and Manchester United is giving opportunities to the guys who grew up here in the academy.

'And that’s good because in big clubs they don’t always get opportunities because of the pressure and the results and because everyone wants to win.'

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (21), Andreas Pereira (23), Scott McTominay (22), Daniel James (21) and Marcus Rashford (21) all started on Saturday.

Solskjaer also had a youthful bench with Axel Tuanzebe (21) and Tahith Chong (19) both coming on.

'He's not quick but he's so strong, clever': Ex-Man City star Yaya Toure reveals Manchester United's Nemanja Matic gave him a proper battle

* Nemanja Matic has fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Yaya Toure insists that the former Chelsea midfielder was a formidable opponent
* Matic has been linked to move away from United after just five appearances

Former Manchester City star Yaya Toure has revealed he found it hard to play against Manchester United's Nemanja Matic in the Premier League.

The Serbia international has fallen out of favour under United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this campaign.

But Toure, who spent eight successful years at the Etihad, has insisted that former Chelsea midfielder Matic was a formidable opponent.

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic 'leaves training after just 24 MINUTES' days after snubbing gala dinner as speculation about his Old Trafford future intensifies

* Nemanja Matic reportedly left training on Wednesday after just 24 minutes
* It comes just days after the midfielder snubbed United's gala dinner event
* Matic has been out of favour this season and is being linked with a move away

Out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic reportedly trained for just 24 minutes of Wednesday's session, raising concerns about his long-term future at the club.

It comes just days after the Serbia international snubbed United's black-tie gala dinner, instead choosing to dine out with Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone.

The former Chelsea man also hinted that his time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end by responding to a meme on Instagram linking him with a move to Jose Mourinho's new club Tottenham.

It comes days after Matic snubbed United's gala dinner to dine out with Patrick Cutrone (M)

And on Wednesday, according to The Sun, Matic only took part in the start of the session and was seen leaving United's Carrington training ground early in his Mercedes 4x4.

The 31-year-old has very much been on the periphery this season, making just two Premier League starts with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Fred, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira.

Matic has already been linked with a January exit and this latest incident is likely to only increase speculation.

Matic has been frozen out this season and has only started two Premier League matches. The former Chelsea man intensified speculation when he responded to a meme on Instagram

Inter Milan have been reported as the early frontrunners to secure his services but Matic is expected to receive interest from several other clubs should United make him available.

The rest of the United squad stayed behind to complete the light session following Matic's early departure as Solskjaer got his men ready for Thursday's Europa League tie with Astana.

Solskjaer is keen to give his senior players a welcome rest this week and has instead taken a number of youngsters for the clash in Kazakhstan, which has largely been a theme for United in this competition this season.

According to reports, 14 players aged between 17 and 19 have been included in United's travelling squad while Jesse Lingard is the only senior name to make the trip.

Default Re: Nemanja Matic

Nemanja Matic's rusty performance in Manchester United's victory against AZ Alkmaar demonstrated how much the Serbian must improve to break into first choice line-up

* Nemanja Matic delivered a rusty showing in Man United's win over AZ Alkmaar
* The Serbian star's lack of mobility was a stark contrast to first choice midfielders
* Matic had been forced to bear the brunt of fans’ frustrations before latest injury
* It is increasingly difficult to see Matic playing much of a role this season

Nemanja Matic started the season with aspirations of being Manchester United’s captain. He’s subsequently had to downgrade his ambitions and a long-awaited return for Thursday’s Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar was a reminder of how much he has to do to get into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s genuine first team.

The kindest thing to say about Matic’s performance was that he looked rusty and in fairness it was his first outing since October 3 since when he’s been hampered by a groin injury.

But even so, the 31-year-old’s lack of mobility across the ground was a stark contrast to the energy shown by Scott McTominay and Fred in United’s recent improved league results.

Matic is one of only four players in the United squad with experience of winning a Premier League title – his success coming at Chelsea.

He followed Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford for £40million with a reputation of a world-class holding midfielder helping tighten up the United defence.

It hasn’t really worked out like that and Matic was already bearing the brunt of fans’ frustrations before his latest injury. His athleticism, or lack of, have been ridiculed.

You saw the problem in the first half at Old Trafford where Alkmaar’s busy forward players were able to get goal-side of the Serbian international. He allowed young James Garner to break forward while he stayed solidly in front of the back-four.

On the only occasion he ventured into the Alkmaar half, he did produce an excellent pass to set up Juan Mata for a chance.

Matic will point that he had done his job because United reached the interval level at 0-0 providing the platform for a second-half goal glut typified by a brilliant brace from Mason Greenwood, Ashley Young and a Juan Mata penalty.

Nemanja Matic delivered a rusty showing in Manchester United's victory over AZ Alkmaar. The Serbian midfielder's lack of mobility was a contrast to United's first choice midfielders. It is difficult to imagine the 31-year-old playing much more of a role for United this season

But if Mourinho, now at Spurs, is looking for an experienced midfielder, he wouldn’t pay anything like £30million for Matic on current form.

Alkmaar failed to score against United in Holland and aren’t among European football’s most potent attacking forces.

Matic would have to up his game considerably against better opposition. On the ball, he is composed, given time. He was involved in the move that created United’s opening goal early in the second half. He can still read the game but too often even though the mind knows where to go, the legs won’t carry him fast enough.

United are light in numbers in midfield but even so Matic would be an emergency pick rather than someone Solskjaer would rely upon.

McTominay and Fred will get the nod for Sunday’s visit of Everton and Paul Pogba’s anticipated return later this month would push Matic further down the pecking order.

He is a popular member of the United dressing-room and can give useful advice to the crop of youngsters coming through.

But he will feel at his age he still has three or four years of first-team football ahead of him and you can’t see him wanting to hang around Old Trafford to sit on the bench or, even worse, not make the bench.

Matic wore the armband with pride when United went on pre-season tour but Solskjaer has now nominated Young as club captain with Harry Maguire and David de Gea next in line.

Unless Matic can turn back the clock to pass and move a bit quicker – as he did in his Chelsea heyday – it is hard to see him playing much of a role this season at Old Trafford, with the proviso of course that he will have been glad to have completed a 90-minute run-out after his frustrating time with injuries. With some European leagues played at a slower pace, the last knockings of the Europa league stage could have proved a valuable shop window.

'I will continue to do my job': Nemanja Matic pledges loyalty to Manchester United amid talk of a move away from Old Trafford

* Nemanja Matic made just his seventh appearance of the season on Wednesday
* The Serb started and played 90 minutes in Manchester United's 3-0 victory
* He has been linked with a move to Inter but he will continue to be professional

Nemanja Matic insists he will 'always try to do his best' after he got a rare outing for Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The Serbian midfielder made just his seventh appearance of the season in the 3-0 win over Colchester United, starting in central midfield and playing the full 90 minutes.

Matic, who is a two-time Premier League winner with Chelsea, is out-of-favour with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but amid rumours of a move to Inter Milan, the 31-year-old said he would continue to be professional and lauded the young players in the changing rooms as the 'future of Manchester United'.

Nemanja Matic started and played 90 minutes in the 3-0 win against Colchester yesterday

'Of course, when I'm on the field I always try to do my best, I always try to help the team,' Matic told the official club website.

'When I'm on the pitch, I'm happy and I will continue to do my job.

'We have to be more consistent in our games, but this is normal for a young team without experience.

'This is normal and I'm sure those young guys in our changing room - they are the future of Manchester United.'
