Angry Mason Greenwood clashes with fan as he waits to find out if he will face rape charges with police set to report to the CPS 'within days' following his arrest on suspicion of sex assault

* Mason Greenwood, 20, is set to find out if he will face rape charges 'within days'
* A video has emerged showing a fan taunting the Manchester United forward
* Police are set to submit a report to Crown Prosecution 'imminently', source says
* Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of 18-year-old student

Footage has emerged of a football fan taunting Manchester United star Mason Greenwood, who is set to find out within days if he will face rape charges.

The video shows the man shouting 'quarantine' and 'sh***y a**e' at the forward, who swipes his hand for the man to go away.

Police are due to 'imminently' submit a report to the Crown Prosecution Service after the 20-year-old England international was arrested on suspicion of sex assault and threats to kill, the Mirror said.

Greenwood was released on bail last month before being abruptly dumped by sponsors Nike without receiving a penny of compensation, Sportsmail exclusively revealed in February.

Speaking to The Sun, a source claimed: 'He’s still on bail but things are at an advanced stage. The police and CPS are currently discussing if there is a case or not to bring against him.

'There comes a point where a decision has to be made and things have reached that point.'

Greenwood was also removed from video games such as FIFA 22 and Football Manager 2022, as well as United's app.

Earlier this month Greenwood was pictured for the first time since he was arrested, driving his car in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.

He remains on bail pending further investigation. GMP confirmed the bail will expire on April 30, and could then be extended, Manchester Evening News reports.

A decision on whether Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood will face rape charges is set to come within days, sources have claimed. Greenwood swipes his hand for the man to go away in the video, shared on Tiktok

Officers arrived at Greenwood's £14,000-a-month Cheshire mansion on January 31 after seeing a woman reporting claims of physical violence and sexual threats on social media.

The footballer was then arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of an 18-year-old student.

He was further arrested on February 2 on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill, but bailed pending further investigation.

Greenwood, who is regarded as one of England’s most talented young footballers, was suspended - on his full £75,000-a-week pay deal - by United following the arrest.

Man Utd star Mason Greenwood faces court bail hearing next week as police continue to probe allegations he raped and sexually assaulted young woman

* Manchester Utd's Mason Greenwood will face a court hearing next week
* There has been an application to extend his police bail amid his rape allegations
* The 20-year-old footballer was arrested in January and spent three nights in cells
* Greenwood is not expected to attend the hearing next Wednesday

Manchester United star Mason Greenwood will have his bail extension application heard at court next week following the allegations he raped and assaulted a young woman earlier this year, MailOnline can reveal.

The police investigation remains on-going and there has now been an application to extend his police bail - which will take place at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court next Wednesday.

The 20-year-old footballer was arrested in January after images and videos were posted online.

He was also later quizzed on suspicion of making threats to kill as he spent three nights in cells at a Greater Manchester police station.

Greenwood was released on conditional bail and this was extended until mid-June.

The hearing on Wednesday will not be held in open court and Greenwood is not expected to attend.

A Ministry of Justice official said: 'We can confirm that the application to extend the pre-charge bail will be considered on the 23rd June 2022.'

Rumours circulating on social media recently suggested that rather than being charged the striker might face no further police action but it's understood no decision has been reached - and he remains suspended by the Old Trafford club .

Officers had arrived at Greenwood's £14,000-a-month mansion in Bowdon, Greater Manchester and were later seen questioning neighbours.

The England international was originally held on suspicion of raping and attacking a woman as he was grilled by detectives.

While in custody, he was re-arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill his alleged victim before he was released on bail.

Greenwood, an academy product originally from Bradford, West Yorks, later beefed up security at his home.

He brought in two private security guards to patrol the rented house and an expert installed a home CCTV system capable of recording from up to eight cameras.

The footballer was suspended from playing or training with Man United until further notice.

Nike suspended its sponsorship deal with Greenwood, and later terminated it, and Electronic Arts confirmed his removal from active squads on its Fifa 22 game.

Greenwood was spotted in public for the first time since his arrest in early April, driving a black Mercedes around Cheshire while wearing a Cartier balaclava.

He made his only appearance for England debut against Iceland in September 2020 but was then sent home for breaching Covid guidelines.

Greenwood, who has scored 22 goals in 83 appearances for United, has not played for his country since.

His last appearance for the club came in a 1-0 win against West Ham on 22 January.

Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has his bail EXTENDED with the player set to discover if he will be charged for rape and assaulted allegations in the next three months

* Mason Greenwood was arrested in January after images were posted online
* He is alleged to have raped and assaulted a young woman earlier this year
* Man United star was released on conditional bail and it has now been extended
* Police continue to investigate and did not specify when his bail will run out

Mason Greenwood is expected to discover in the next three months if he will be charged over allegations that he raped, sexually assaulted and threatened to kill an 18-year-old student.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Friday that the Manchester United star’s bail was extended at a private hearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The next bail hearing is scheduled for early September, but the Crown Prosecution Service are set to make a decision before then over whether to charge Greenwood or drop the investigation altogether.

Greenwood, 20, remains under suspension by United and will not be allowed to return to training at Carrington when most of the squad report for pre-season under Erik ten Hag on Monday.

The police investigation would have continued if bail conditions had been removed by the court, but GMP confirmed that the bail has been extended.

The 20-year-old footballer was arrested in January after images and videos were posted online.

He was also later quizzed on suspicion of making threats to kill as he spent three nights in cells at a Greater Manchester police station.

Greenwood was released on conditional bail. This was first extended until mid-June and has now been extended.

However police did not specify when it would run out after yesterday's closed court hearing.

A GMP spokesperson said: 'As the outcome of bail reviews does not impact the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is charged or released facing no further action.'

Rumours circulating on social media recently suggested that rather than being charged the striker might face no further police action.

Mason Greenwood remains suspended by Man United despite being named on list of U21 players able to play for club in Premier League this season... with forward still on conditional bail as police probe rape and assault allegations

* Mason Greenwood on list of U21 players who can play for club in Premier League
* But 20-year-old remains suspended by Man United as investigation continues
* The Man United star's conditional bail was extended at a private hearing in June
* United contractually bound to continue paying his £75,000-a-week salary

Manchester United insist Mason Greenwood remains suspended despite being included in an official squad for the 2022-23 season.

The 20-year-old has not been named in the 25-man squad but is on a list of U21 players who are eligible to play for the first team in the Premier League this season.

But that it is no indication there has been a change in his circumstances, which sees him face allegations that he raped, sexually assaulted and threatened to kill an 18-year-old student.

The Man United star's bail was extended at a private hearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court in June, having been arrested in January after images and videos were posted online.

He was also later quizzed on suspicion of making threats to kill as he spent three nights in cells at a Greater Manchester police station.

Greenwood - who however has not been included in United's squad for the Europa League this term - was released on conditional bail and has been extended twice since.

However, police did not specify when it would run out after the closed court hearing in June.

A GMP spokesperson said: 'As the outcome of bail reviews does not impact the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is charged or released facing no further action.'

Greenwood's player profile has remained online since his arrest but the club have blocked fans from buying shirts with his name and No 11 on the back.

But United are contractually bound to continue paying Greenwood's £75,000-a-week salary.

His last appearance for the club came in a 1-0 win against West Ham on January 22.

Manchester United launch internal investigation to decide Mason Greenwood's future after charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped, as it emerges complainant has wanted to retract her accusations since April

* Manchester United's Mason Greenwood has seen charges dropped against him
* All attempted rape and assault charges against him were dropped on Thursday
* United have released a statement insisting they 'will conduct their own process'

Manchester United have launched an internal investigation which will decide the future of Mason Greenwood - after charges of attempted rape and assault against the England striker were dramatically dropped.

The 21-year-old was arrested in January 2022 and suspended on full pay by the club a short time later after videos and images were posted online.

However, in a bombshell statement released on Thursday, the Crown Prosecution Service announced the subsequent charges had been discarded after 'key witnesses' withdrew their involvement.

It leaves Old Trafford officials with a major headache ahead of a run-in to the end of a season on which they are fighting for honours on four fronts.

More than three hours after the news was made public, United released a short statement. It read: 'Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.'

Manchester United have released a statement indicating they 'will conduct their own process before determining next steps' after Mason Greenwood saw charges dropped against him

That probe will buy the club time and a decision on Greenwood will follow at its conclusion. The player will not return to training or playing while it is ongoing. No timeframe has been set but United will face intense pressure to complete it.

Given Greenwood - who has a £70,000-a-week contract until 2025 with the option of a further year - no longer faces charges and the prospect of a trial, there is nothing legally stopping United from re-integrating him into the squad.

Premier League rules state that Greenwood is classed as an Under 21, and so he did not have to be registered in the 25-man squad following the closure of the transfer window.

Should they decide he does have a future at the club, fitness would clearly be an issue for a man who scored 35 goals in 129 matches but who has now not played for more than a year.

Well-placed sources believe United may look at paying up Greenwood's contract and releasing him or seek to reach a financial settlement. Whether the player would have a legal argument against such a move is unclear.

Disrepute clauses are commonplace in football and employment law experts have told this newspaper that it would be difficult for Greenwood's camp to argue that he did not bring the club into disrepute - despite no longer facing charges.

US sportswear giants Nike were quick to drop Greenwood when news of his arrest emerged and would be able to use a similar stance.

United could even seek legal action against the player, claiming that his actions left them no option other than to suspend him and triggered a subsequent drop in value.

The potential of a toxic reaction to Greenwood at grounds in the UK will also be a factor. Should United deem he has no future with the club a move abroad may be a likely escape route.

Charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against the United forward (centre) were dropped on Thursday

A loan switch overseas could also be on the cards. United may seek to pay the player up but retain his registration in order to attract a fee should he move elsewhere.

Following the development, Greenwood said: 'I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.'

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A CPS spokesman said: 'We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.

'We have explained our decision to all parties. We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met.'

In October, Greenwood spent two days on remand in prison after District Judge Mark Hadfield found he had 'persistently and flagrantly breached' bail conditions which included not contacting the complainant.

It can now be reported that the court heard the complainant had wished to retract her accusations as long ago as April and she attended the hearing sat alongside Greenwood's family.

Greenwood's profile remains on United's website despite the club having suspending him

The forward is listed alongside other United players on the first-team squad page. Greenwood was listed in the Under 21 (Contract and Scholars) section of United's squad list for the Premier League at the beginning of the season

Police were criticised for not apprehending Greenwood sooner after the court heard he had been breaching bail over many months and officers were aware.

Mr Hadfield said to the prosecutor: 'I'm told this defendant has flagrantly breached his conditions over weeks and months and the police haven't done anything about it. Why not?

'Breach of bail conditions, particularly when you have a vulnerable complainant who has now retracted her complaint… what's the point of having bail conditions if the police don't enforce them?'

Mr Hadfield also told the footballer: 'You have persistently and flagrantly breached bail. There are substantial grounds for me not to grant bail, not least the interference with justice and for this reason you will be remanded in custody.'

Greenwood's last match for United was in the 1-0 Premier League win over West Ham on January 22 last year, with his last goal coming in a 3-1 win at Brentford three days beforehand.

Greenwood's No 11 shirt number has not been re-allocated. His sole appearance for the England national team was against Iceland in September 2020.

Nike did not respond to a request for comment.

Default Re: Mason Will John Greenwood

Mason Greenwood's potential availability after rape and assault charges were dropped against him is a NIGHTMARE scenario for Manchester United as they attempt to navigate a moral minefield

* Charges have been dropped against Manchester United's Mason Greenwood, 21
* United must consider the message playing Greenwood again would send out
* The last thing United manager Erik ten Hag needs is a distraction of this nature

Having spent the last couple of months seeking a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, in any other circumstances the return of Mason Greenwood could be seen as welcome news for Manchester United.

A rising star raised in the traditions of the club, an established first-team regular and a young man widely regarded as their best finisher, who better to step into Ronaldo’s shoes following his acrimonious exit?

In that sense, Greenwood certainly seems a more suitable fit than Wout Weghorst, the 6ft 6in Dutchman signed on loan from Burnley last month to help lead United’s attack.

In the year since he was first arrested, the club have prepared for life without him to the point of effectively writing off an asset who was valued at close to £134million in some quarters just a month earlier.

Judging by some of the transfer fees paid in the January window, Greenwood’s value could have been even greater than that now if he had continued on the same trajectory. But the fact is, he didn’t. Greenwood’s gilded career ground to shuddering halt the moment police knocked on his door in January 2022.

Over the course of the last 12 months, club sources have told Sportsmail that the worst possible outcome would be for the charges against Greenwood to be dropped or for the case to go to court and he be found not guilty.

At lunchtime on Thursday, United's worst fears became reality with confirmation from the Crown Prosecution Service that no further action will be taken against him.

Although Greenwood no longer faces any charges, it would be wrong to say that he is not damaged goods. The leaked audio file that began this chain of events tarnished his reputation, and that of his club and sponsors, from the very start.

It was enough for Nike to swiftly sever ties with him without compensation following his arrest due to reputational damage and loss of commercial value. Talks had already begun over a new deal that would have been worth millions.

All trace of him disappeared from United’s online merchandise shop and versions of the FIFA 22 video game, and Cadbury, one of United’s official partners, said it would not use him in any marketing products while the allegations were being investigated.

In United’s case, one of the aims of the internal investigation launched on Thursday will be to determine whether he has brought the club into disrepute to the extent that his £70,000-a-week contract can be torn up with more than two years left to run.

This, after all, is a moral issue that extends far beyond the football pitch.

Charges were dropped against Mason Greenwood, creating an issue for Manchester United. The last thing that United manager Erik ten Hag needs is a distraction of this nature. United need to consider what message Greenwood playing for them again would send out

United have a worldwide army of fans, a raft of global sponsors and, let’s not forget, a women’s team these days. What kind of message would it send out to have Mason Greenwood running out at Old Trafford in a red shirt again?

With the Glazer family open to offers for United for anything between £6-9billion, this is not a great time to be damaging the brand in any way.

And then there are Greenwood’s team-mates. Some of them stopped following him on social media in the wake of his arrest. Others struggled to warm to him even before that following his breakthrough into the first team. Most are fathers, many with daughters. Would they be expected to welcome him back with open arms after what they heard on the audio file?

United say that Greenwood will not be able to play for the club or train while the internal investigation continues, but all they have done is to buy themselves time.

Erik ten Hag has performed a minor miracle by improving the toxic atmosphere around the dressing room since taking over as manager in the summer, and the last thing he needs is a distraction of this nature.

Greenwood would need an incredibly thick skin if he is to play in the Premier League again. A move to a foreign club could represent Greenwood's best chance at rehabilitation

Ten Hag’s predecessor, Ralf Rangnick, described Greenwood’s arrest as a disaster and it remains so.

And what of the player himself? Whatever allegations have been levelled at Greenwood, whatever evidence has been leaked into the public domain, he is an innocent man who faces no charges. On that basis, he is free to live and work where he wants, regardless of his profile.

But United insiders have spoken for a long time about the 21-year-old being young for his age. He would need the skin of a rhino to step back on to the pitch in the Premier League and play in front of tens of thousands of fans every week again.

Even in his absence, unsavoury chants have been heard from supporters of other clubs when they play United. Expect that to increase tenfold were he to step back on the pitch in this country.

Supporters sang something similar about Ronaldo, relating to an allegation made in the US, and it didn’t stop until the day he left United in November.

A move abroad has been mooted, and may represent Greenwood’s best shot at rehabilitation, but who is to say the vitriol would not follow him there?

There is no easy way forward for United and Greenwood. No winners in this one.

There was a time when taking a girl back to the team hotel on England duty, getting told off for being late at United or inhaling nitrous oxide constituted a crisis for the Bradford-born player who had the potential to be one of the greatest of his generation.

But the last year has brought trouble on an entirely different scale altogether.

Greenwood issued a statement last night expressing his relief, and that is understandable. He has been through personal hell. For his club, however, the problem of picking up the pieces from this sorry mess goes on.

Default Re: Mason Will John Greenwood

Pernyataan resmi klub terkait update Mason Greenwood sih singkat, padat dan jelas...

CLUB STATEMENT ON MASON GREENWOOD

Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.
