Sir Alex Ferguson Stand Akan Ditutup

Manchester United dikabarkan akan menutup satu tribun yang ada di Old Trafford. Tribun tersebut adalah, Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, yang berkapasitas 26 ribu bangku penoton pada leg kedua Liga Europa, Jumat (25/2) dini hari WIB.



Keputusan penutupan tribun tersebut tidak terlepas dari rendahnya penjualan tiket Sir Alex Ferguson Stand dalam beberapa pertandingan. Padahal manajemen The Red Devils telah berusaha untuk menarik penggemar dengan mengurangi harga tiket hingga 25 persen.

Salah satu alasan sepinya penggemar membeli tiket tribun Sir Alex Ferguson Stand tersebut adalah gaya bermain anak asuh Louis van Gaal yang dinilai membosankan. Tidak hanya itu, para penggemar bahkan telah mengajukan protes pada pelatih berkebangsaan Belanda itu.

Menanggapi sepinya penjualan tiket untuk tribun yang diberi nama dari pelatih kebanggan The Red Devils itu, manajemen klub memutuskan tidak menjual lagi tiket tersebut. Bagi para penggemar yang telah membeli tiket sebelumnya, manajemen klub akan memindahkan mereka ke tribun lain.

Man. United dijadwalkan akan menjamu klub Denmark, Midjtyland, di leg kedua babak 32 besar Liga Europa di Old Trafford. Sebelumnya The Red Devils akan melakoni leg pertama di MCH Arena pada Jumat (19/2) dini hari WIB.

Van Gaal dituntut untuk meraih trofi di musim keduanya bersama Man. United. Pasalnya, mantan pelatih Barcelona itu, telah menghamburkan banyak uang dalam belanja pemain. Liga Europa merupakan salah satu kesempatan bagi Van Gaal untuk memberikan gelar pada The Red Devils.

When the Busby Babes cleared the snow

Thanks to undersoil heating and modern technology, it's now extremely rare for a Manchester United match to be called off due to snow – but this was not always the case.

Back in the 1950s, it was all hands on deck to ensure matches went ahead and, as our rarely-seen photos show, the responsibility to clear the hallowed turf at Old Trafford fell to Sir Matt Busby and his fabled Babes, who would regularly pick up a shovel and get to work.


The photographs were sent to us by Marie Coffey, who inherited them from her father James after he was given the collection by a freelance photographer.


Incredibly, United stars Dennis Viollet, Alex Dawson and Duncan Edwards can all be seen wielding wheelbarrows and in the latter’s case, taking time off to make snowballs in scenes that symbolise the working-class origins of the sport.


And, with a cold snap currently gripping the region this March, what better time to share these historic images and catch a glimpse of life as a professional footballer in a bygone era.

Manchester United Reportedly Considering Potential Old Trafford Expansion




Manchester United are reportedly considering expanding their Old Trafford stadium in the near future in order to bring the capacity of the iconic venue up to around 80,000 seats.

That's according to ESPN FC's Andy Mitten, who reported on Monday the club will have to reduce the overall capacity of its stadium because of new regulations to accommodate those with disabilities. And as the Red Devils currently sell out just about every match, they could use the opportunity to add to the stadium's capacity.

Per Mitten, the club has so far publicly denied they are planning any development.

Per the club's official Twitter account, Old Trafford's South Stand will officially be named after legendary footballer Sir Bobby Charlton before Sunday's Premier League match against Everton.

Per Mitten, it is currently the smallest stand in the stadium, seating 9,800.

The plan would be to add 7,500 seats above the Sir Bobby Charlton stand, with the second tier looking similar in size to the tier above the Sir Alex Ferguson stand, albeit without a third level.

There would also be an option to build two more quadrants of 4,000 seats each, which could further boost the capacity to 88,000. That would make Old Trafford the second-largest club stadium in Europe, behind Barcelona's Camp Nou.

A new roof is already on its way, marking the first major redevelopment approved by the Glazer family. Per Mitten, this summer marks the 10-year anniversary of Old Trafford's last expansion, which brought the total capacity up to 75,653.

Old Trafford currently is the second-biggest football stadium in England, behind Wembley Stadium and well ahead of Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

Manchester United check out Celtic's Parkhead rail seating amid clamour to have standing section at Old Trafford

A delegation from Manchester United has visited Glasgow Celtic's Parkhead home to examine its safe standing section.

The group headed north of the border following a growing clamour among fans to introduce rail seating at Old Trafford.

Sportsmail understands that United remain neutral on the issue but are open to introducing an area similar to that installed by the Scottish club, with a capacity of close to 3,000 should it be deemed legal and feasible.

The stadium is not thought to be structurally sound enough to support a large standing area but a small section of rail seating, similar to that at Parkhead, is an option.

The issue is to be debated at a fans forum next month with the Manchester United Supporters Trust instrumental in the matter.

Any such move will be reliant upon the interpretation of the 1989 Football Spectators Act, which states that stadia in the two top divisions must be all-seater. Clubs would need to get Premier League guidance on whether legislation would be required.

The regulations were introduced following the Hillsborough disaster, which saw 96 Liverpool fans unlawfully killed.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport are monitoring the situation.

Should United decide to press ahead J Stand, the current singing section, is likely to be the scene of the changes.

Jakarta - Pasangan calon gubernur dan wakil gubernur DKI, Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno berjanji akan merencanakan pengadaan stadion sepakbola bagi Persija Jakarta. Seperti apa nanti wujudnya?

"Stadionnya nanti bertaraf internasional ya. Rumputnya nanti seperti di Manchester United. Tempat duduknya bakal seperti di Jerman, Bayern Munchen ya," ujar Sandiaga di Perintis Futsal, Cakung, Jakarta Timur (17/11/2016).

Selain Old Trafford yang merupakan markas Manchester United, stadion lain juga menjadi patokan buat keduanya. Sandiaga juga menambahkan, stadion yang nanti akan dibangunnya jika terpilih di pilkada 2017 nanti tolak ukurnya adalah Stadion Gelora Bung Karno, Stadion Shah Alam Malaysia dan Allianz Arena Jerman. Berbagai fasilitas akan disiapkan.

"Fasilitasnya adalah lapangan bola standar internasional, jalur atletik, jogging, pusat olahraga dan sebagainya ya, standar internasional," kata Sandi.

Anies Baswedan menambahkan, dengan nantinya dibangun stadion tersebut, diharapkan warga dapat lebih aktif berinteraksi dan bahagia.

"Di tempat ini (stadion), (menjadi) interaksinya warga dan menjadi simpul penumbuh kebahagiaan di Jakarta ini. Saya berharap kita sama sama jaga soliditas, kenyamanan dan tebarkan kebahagiaan untuk warga Jakarta," ujar Anies.

Pasangan nomor urut 3 ini berharap stadion yang akan dibangun nantinya bisa menjadi simpul kebahagiaan masyarakat.

"(Ini) stadion bersama, mari kita bangun bersama dan rawat bersama," tutup Anies.

A Christmas drive-in cinema is coming to Old Trafford

Old Trafford is used to hosting some of the biggest names in football.

But this time, it's movie stars that will be coming to town in the form of Christmas classics on a huge 100 square metre drive-in cinema screen.

Festive films The Muppet Christmas Carol, Home Alone and Elf will all be playing during the outdoor three-day festival in December.

Also showing will be cult Christmas flick Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, which has become an alternative festive favourite for thousands of film fans.

Entry is £26 per car, with on-site German market-inspired catering providing crepes, a swing BBQ and hot chocolate.

Film-goers are also permitted to bring their own food and toilets will be available on site.



Old Trafford

Audio for each film is transmitted directly through the vehicle's FM radio using a special frequency provided on arrival.

The drive-in cinema in the grounds of Old Trafford will be held between Wednesday, December 21 to Friday, December 23.

Tampaknya sistem pengamanan di Old Trafford perlu diperketat lagi

Manchester United fans hid in Old Trafford toilet overnight

Two Manchester United fans spent Friday night undetected in an Old Trafford toilet in an attempt to see Saturday's Premier League game against Arsenal.

The supporters had been on a stadium tour but managed to cut themselves off from the remainder of the party.

They were found on Saturday morning during a security sweep of the stadium before being handed over to police, who decided not to arrest the pair.

United say there was no risk to supporters attending the Arsenal game.

The pair had been searched and their belongings put through a metal detector before they went on the tour.

The incident comes six months after United's Premier League game against Bournemouth at Old Trafford had to be called off at short notice when a suspect package was found in a toilet in the corner of the stadium.

It turned out to be a fake explosive left behind after a training exercise earlier in the week.

UNITED KICK OFF CHRISTMAS AT OLD TRAFFORD

Manchester United has kicked off Christmas, with a young supporter joining Anthony Martial and Sam Johnstone to light up Old Trafford for the festive period.

United fan Sam, 11, was invited to turn on the giant Christmas tree lights outside the Theatre of Dreams, with Martial and Johnstone making a special surprise appearance on stage with him.

Sam attends Manchester Creative and Media Academy in Blackley, a partner school of Manchester United Foundation, and was nominated by his Foundation coach to take part in the once-in-a-lifetime event, thanks to his dedication to his year 7 football team and being an inspiration to his peers.

Sam suffers from cerebral palsy but doesn’t let it stop him enjoying football with his friends, who joined him at the special event. He was the star of the show, giving an inspirational speech on stage, before being presented with a Manchester United shirt by the players.

A delighted Sam commented on the evening: "I'm really happy to switch on the Christmas tree lights; I love Manchester United and playing football with my friends at school. I play in goal and I think it’s important to never give up. My advice, to anybody who might have cerebral palsy like me, is to never give up and always be happy."

Club officials and staff also joined the celebrations, which launched a full month of activity and special events at Manchester United, building up to Christmas Day.

Group managing director and Foundation chairman Richard Arnold added: "Manchester United and the Foundation take pride in the work and achievements carried out across the region, making a huge difference to so many youngsters' lives. It has been a pleasure to welcome Sam to Old Trafford for this great event and he represents all the great values that Manchester United Foundation strives towards."

The Christmas tree lights switch-on at Old Trafford has become a club tradition in recent years and marks the start of a series of events and festive surprises for supporters which will be revealed throughout December.
