Re: Rafa dan Empat Manajer Liverpool yang Dipecat karena United
Knocked off their perch
MEN - January 10, 2011 Kenny Dalglish is the sixth different man to steer the fortunes of Liverpool during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at Old Trafford. Here, MEN Sport looks at the tenures of Anfield bosses during Fergie’s time at United. KENNY DALGLISH 1985-91 Kop legend Dalglish had a tough task to follow the trophy-laden years of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan. Dalglish delivered three league titles and two FA Cups and even the way he quit because of the pressures of the job did not lower his esteem in the eyes of fans who were calling for his return before Hodgson's departure. GRAEME SOUNESS 1991-94 Souness was an integral part of Liverpool's success as a player, but became proof that not every former player can return as a successful manager. Souness was hired after his success at Rangers but could only deliver one FA Cup to the Anfield faithful. The fiery Scot also had well publicised bust-ups with players and underwent heart surgery during his tenure. ROY EVANS 1994-1998 Evans was a return to the boot room for Liverpool after he was selected to return the club to winning ways when Souness quit. Evans delivered one League Cup in 1995 but could not achieve the success of more illustrious predecessors, although he did introduce Michael Owen to the first team. Evans left when plans for him to manage alongside Gerard Houllier didn’t work out. GERARD HOULLIER 1998-2004 The Frenchman overhauled both the team and the club's training ground and had great success in 2001 as Liverpool won the League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup. However, in October of the same year Houllier suffered a dissected aorta and was taken ill during a league game with Leeds. Former player Phil Thompson stood in until Houllier's return, but he could not recapture the successes of 2001 and left in acrimonious circumstances in 2004. RAFAEL BENITEZ 2004-2010 The Spaniard guided the club to the Champions League title in 2005 after a dramatic final saw them come from 3-0 down to draw with AC Milan before winning on penalties. His side went on to win the FA Cup in 2006 after a shootout success against West Ham. Benitez fell out with new owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks but, following the 2007 Champions League final loss to Milan, he was allowed to sign striker Fernando Torres. A publicised fall-out with chief executive Rick Parry and a verbal attack on Sir Alex Ferguson were followed by a new five-year contract in March 2009, but he left the club the following June after the fans turned against him. ROY HODGSON 2010-2011 Manager of the year at Fulham, the highly-respected Hodgson was seen as a fresh start after Liverpool rejected the chance of a return for Dalglish. League Cup defeat to Northampton and a Premier League reverse at home to Blackpool, coupled with other poor results, saw Liverpool in the bottom three after seven games. Speculation that he would be sacked was dismissed with an upturn in form and the backing of new owner John W Henry. However, defeats to Wolves and Blackburn saw Hodgson fall out with fans and Henry wielded the axe. * Ronnie Moran was caretaker manager for 10 games in 1991.
