MCTOMINAY DESPERATE FOR MORE TROPHIES

Scott McTominay has stressed the team is more important than any individual trophies after being named Manchester United's Player of the Month for the second time this season.

After collecting our award in September, the Scotland international enjoyed an impressive October, culminating in an outstanding performance during the Reds' 2-1 victory at Chelsea.

He beat off competition from Marcus Rashford and Daniel James to earn the accolade but is more concerned with targeting glory in the Emirates FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League.

“It's pleasing to win a couple of individual trophies, it’s a nice feeling,” he told us at the Aon Training Complex.

“But it’s difficult when we’ve had a lot of games. It’s a very, very busy period and three or four of the lads could have easily won it as well. So I was fortunate and I thank the fans for voting for me.
“The more important thing is that, when it comes to the business side of the season, we’re there or thereabouts and we can win things collectively as a group. That’s what everybody is dying for in that changing room.

“We could have three trophies this season and it’s something that we’re really looking forward to and aspiring to in terms of a group and our goals as well. It’s brilliant to win Player of the Month, but it’s about the collective and I wouldn’t be able to win it without my team-mates

McTominay admits he was pleased with his all-action display at Stamford Bridge, as the Reds ended Chelsea’s long unbeaten run by knocking them out of the Carabao Cup last week.

“It was a game I did enjoy,” he said. “I didn’t really get a lot of the ball in the first 15 minutes and you think it’s going to be a long night, but we stuck in there and we had very, very good players on the break in Dan, Marcus and Anthony [Martial], when he came on.

“It was an exciting game, there was a lot of drama and a lot of things going on. It was brilliant for us to win that game, especially away at Stamford Bridge as well.”

The October period also included a landmark goal for the club and Scott scored it – the opener in the 3-1 win at Norwich City was our 2,000th in the Premier League.
“That felt good,” he said. “That was special. We knew about it before the game and I got reminded of it after the game as well and it was the just right place, right time.

“I’ve always said to my mum and my dad, your hard work always catches up with perfect timing. That was the perfect example of it.”
