Scott McTominay, Pemain Muda MU yang Diperbincangkan Sir Alex dan Mourinho
Yanu Arifin - detikSport

Manchester - Ada pemandangan menarik antara Sir Alex Ferguson dan Jose Mourinho, di sela-sela peringatan Tragedi Munich. Keduanya tampak membicarakan Scott McTominay.

Sir Alex memimpin peringatan tragedi Munich di Old Trafford, Selasa (6/2/2018) waktu setempat.

Setelah McTominay berlalu, Mourinho terlihat menyalami Sir Alex.

Manchester United fans are convinced Sir Alex Ferguson told Jose Mourinho to play Scott McTominay more often when they met after Munich service

* Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson met at the Munich anniversary service
* Ferguson grabbed Mourinho for a chat many believe was about Scott McTominay
* United fans think Fergie told Mourinho to play midfielder McTominay more often

Sir Alex Ferguson dished out some words of wisdom following Tuesday's service of remembrance for the victims of the 1958 Munich air disaster.

After marking the 60th anniversary of the tragedy — which took the lives of 23 people including eight Manchester United footballers — at a solemn Old Trafford service, Ferguson stopped young midfielder Scott McTominay for a chat.

The conversation was captured on camera and was quickly followed by Fergie grabbing manager Jose Mourinho and telling him something rather forcefully while appearing to point in the direction of 21-year-old McTominay.

Jose Mourinho (left) and Sir Alex Ferguson spoke to each other at Old Trafford on Tuesday. The conversation took place after a service of remembrance for the 1958 Munich air disaster. any Manchester United fans believe that Fergie was talking about Scott McTominay. The theory is that Fergie was telling Mourinho to give the young midfielder more game time

We cannot be certain what was said between the former and current United managers, but many fans are convinced the 76-year-old Scot was telling Mourinho to give McTominay more game time.

McTominay made his third Premier League start on Saturday before completing the full 90 minutes as United beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Old Trafford.

It was the Lancaster-born youngster's 11th first-team outing of the season in all competitions but only his sixth start.

Mourinho was impressed with McTominay during his latest outing, saying: 'The kid grew up with the game. He started nervous but then grew up in the game and he was fundamental for us in the way he gave us that desire to recover the ball.'

On his decision to bring McTominay into his side in place of Paul Pogba, Mourinho added: 'I made changes thinking about the characteristics of this game and this kid has a great desire to recover the ball.

'He's a kid that chases the ball, tries to recover high up the pitch and when he has the ball he plays always simple.

'Sometimes against opponents like Huddersfield, who play so close, with so many bodies, sometimes simplicity is genius. You have to open space by playing simple, so it was a decision to play the kid.'

McTominay signed his first professional contract with United in 2013 but he has been on the club's books since the age of five.

Ferguson stepped down as Red Devils boss in 2013 after 26 years in charge, winning 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues during his incredible reign.

Default Re: Scott McTominay

MCTOMINAY VALUES UEFA YOUTH LEAGUE

Scott McTominay feels the UEFA Youth League is hugely beneficial for young Manchester United players coming through the ranks.

The Under-19s are through to the last 16 of the European competition - which is for all under-age players from the 32 senior clubs that qualified for the UEFA Champions League - after Nicky Butt's side beat Brodarac 2-0 in Belgrade this week.

McTominay – who has been associated with the club since the age of five – is himself a product of the club's Academy and played twice in the UEFA Youth League in 2015/16. The midfielder, who has established himself in the first team this season, told us he's a big fan of the tournament, which he believes is crucial for players' development.

"We've seen James Wilson score for the Under-18s, Under-19s, Under-21s and the first team – it’s just a platform of age groups which helps you progress," Scott told MUTV. "I was part of that as well and a lot of other players like Axel [Tuanzebe], Tim Fosu-Mensah and Marcus Rashford were too. It educates footballers and makes you more mature as a person.”

McTominay watched on from afar as the Under-19s overcame a stiff test on an artificial 3G pitch in Serbia, with an Indy Boonen strike and an own goal from Brodarac defender Mihajlo Ivancevic in the first half sealing a professional victory for the young Reds.

“I actually watched the game with [Under-23s midfielder] Callum Whelan,” the 21-year-old revealed. “It was a tough one for the boys. It was a qualifying match for the last 16, so it was vitally important for them to get through to that.

“It’s a competition which is so valuable – the experience of going away, travelling with the first team and being a part of different surroundings and playing against different cultures, which they might not have expected in a really tough match [against Brodarac].

“When you have the chance you have to integrate with the first team and show you’re not shy and you’re willing to have a conversation and hopefully be a part of their dressing room one day. But the boys did really well and I’m proud of them.”

The Under-19s will discover their round-of-16 opponents once the draw is made on Friday at 12:00 GMT

Default Re: Scott McTominay

CARRICK: I'LL HELP SCOTT TO TAKE MY PLACE

Manchester United club captain Michael Carrick has admitted young prospect Scott McTominay is likely to take his place in the future, and, in a typical show of class, the 36-year-old midfielder is eager to help his protégé through that process.

Of course, Carrick’s trophy-laden career is still in progress and after a recent period of absence, he plans to make a telling impact on the remainder of this season with the Reds still competing in three competitions.

The whole squad is needed, particularly in the fast-paced position of central midfield, and McTominay has impressed when given an opportunity by Jose Mourinho. During an interview with MUTV at the Aon Training Complex, Carrick was full of praise for his 21-year-old team-mate.

“Scotty has done great,” Michael told us. “The improvement has been so great over the last six to 12 months, when we’ve seen him training with us a lot more. You can see that he steps up to every challenge that has been set in every environment. He is an athlete. He is strong, quick and very good on the ball. He has got all of the attributes to have a really good career. He just needs those breaks at the right times, which so far he has had. Hopefully he will keep taking his chances.

“He is willing to learn and listen. That is one of the biggest things for a young lad, to have that attitude. Of course I am here to help him and I try to do it as much as I can. I know he will take my place some day and that is not something I would be afraid of, or try to put him off, because it is important to help the future and Scott is definitely that. It is my responsibility to do all I can to help him. It is something I really enjoy, to see the younger lads coming in and getting a chance. Whether it be in my position or not, it’s how the game goes and how the club evolves.”

‘ALL OF A SUDDEN HE BLOSSOMED’

Followers of the Academy will know McTominay experienced an incredible transformation in his late teens, growing from 5 feet 6 inches to 6 foot 3 inches tall in a summer, which has been pivotal in his graduation.

Carrick believes Scott is a perfect example to show that prospects often need time to flourish. “It is incredible,” Michael explained. “My son is seven years old now and he loves his football. You hear other parents talking about ‘is he going to be a player?’ and it is crazy to even speak like that.

“Scotty was coming through the youth teams and Reserves, and he had different growth spurts to the other lads his age. He shot up and found it difficult for a bit of time, and then all of a sudden, at 19 to 21, he has blossomed and started to fulfil his potential. It can be late and that’s how it works. You don’t know at 16, 17 or 18 how you will be in the first team. Scott is a great example of that and Jesse was similar. That is the beauty of this place, the young lads are given a chance to develop at their own speed and when they are ready they can step up. Scotty has done that this season.”

THE MASTER AND APPRENTICE

In an interview with Premier League TV earlier this month, McTominay highlighted Carrick when asked how the senior players have helped him this season.

“Every single day you can watch the players and you see players like Michael Carrick – you don’t have to say what a tremendous career he’s had,” Scott said. “Me and Michael have had one-to-one chats and it’s helped me a lot. And obviously the manager – it’s incredible the amount of support that him and the coaching staff have given me, and the general key details in what you need to do to become a better footballer are crucial, and I’m starting to learn that now.”

Scott McTominay in battle between the FA and Scotland over Manchester United starlet's international future

* Scott McTominay has to come to prominence at Manchester United this season
* The 21-year-old midfielder was born in Lancaster but his father is Scottish
* Scotland boss Alex McLeish wants to call him up for next month's friendlies
* Yet, his neat passing and screening of the defence has been noted by England

England are closely monitoring Scott McTominay's progress and will fight Scotland all the way to ensure Manchester United's emerging midfielder plays international football for the country of his birth.

McTominay's rise since the turn of the year has captured the imagination and he impressed once again when selected ahead of Paul Pogba in Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League.

Alex McLeish, the new Scotland manager, wants to meet the Lancaster-born 21-year-old with the hope of convincing him to represent the country of his father. He would be prepared to hand him a first call-up for next month's friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary.

Scott McTominay's international future is unclear with England and Scotland fighting for him. The 21-year-old midfielder was born in Lancaster but his father is Scottish so he has a choice. The FA have been impressed by his neat passing and screening of the defence at United

The English FA, though, have been tracking McTominay since he was playing for United's academy and there is little possibility of them letting Scotland have a free run at selecting him without discussing the situation. McTominay's career has been progressing steadily, but he has shown his capabilities since Jose Mourinho handed him an extended opportunity in the first team.

The efficient way he plays, with his neat passing and screening of the defence, has been noted at St George's Park.

It remains to be seen whether England coach Gareth Southgate would be prepared to bring McTominay into the squad for next month's friendlies with Italy and Holland, as he looks to intensify his preparations for this summer's World Cup.

McTominay has not played any age-group football for England, but he remains eligible for the Under 21s, who are on course to qualify for next summer's European Championship in Italy and San Marino and have fixtures in March against Ukraine and Romania.

McTominay Makin Menonjol
Redzi Arya Pratama - detikSport

Nemanja Matic tips Man United team-mate Scott McTominay to become 'a top player' after shining in win over rivals Chelsea

* Scott McTominay was promoted to first-team squad before pre-season
* Jose Mourinho has said he trusts the midfielder despite lack of experience
* Nemanja Matic was impressed with McTominay on his arrival at Old Trafford

Scott McTominay's big-game performances have belied his inexperience, with fellow midfielder Nemanja Matic predicting a big future for the 'amazing' Manchester United talent.

Having first caught United's eye at the age of five, the Lancastrian has gone on to overcome injury and followed his surprise debut last May by heading on United's pre-season tour of America.

There he impressed off the bench against Real Madrid before netting his first senior goal against Valerenga in Oslo.

Promising displays were rewarded by a place in Jose Mourinho's first-team squad, with the 21-year-old enjoying a standout February in which he took his appearances for the campaign to 15.

McTominay's selection ahead of club-record signing Paul Pogba for last week's Champions League clash at Sevilla underlined Mourinho's trust, as did his starting role in Sunday's 2-1 comeback win against Chelsea.

The inexperienced midfielder's performances have seen him shortlisted alongside David de Gea and Romelu Lukaku for United's player of the month award, as well as earning admiration from team-mates.

'He is amazing,' Matic said after beating Chelsea on Sunday, when McTominay made just the 10th competitive start of his career.

'He is 21 and to play like that and control the game like that is impressive. He will be a big player for Manchester United.

'I like him because he is a very nice guy and he doesn't have a problem to ask before the game something and I am always there to help him.

'When I came to Manchester I saw within a few days he would become a top player.

'He is working very hard, but I don't want to say too many things about him because he is still very young. But he deserves all the good things.'

Scott McTominay put in a fine performance during Manchester United's win against Chelsea. Nemanja Matic has praised his central midfield partner following his fine display on Sunday

Matic knows better than anyone at United what it takes to play in midfield under Mourinho, who he worked with at Chelsea before joining him at Old Trafford in the summer.

The Portuguese called Matic a 'Jose Mourinho player' upon his arrival, so what does the Red Devils boss demand from a midfielder?

'To fight for the team and not to let the opponent big space to play,' the two-time Premier League winner said.

'And this is what Scott and I did (against Chelsea).'

McTominay's rise could now lead to an international tug of war between England and Scotland, having not previously represented either nation at any level.

A late developer who rocketed from 5ft 6in to a 6ft 4in in recent years, the midfielder has retained his ability on the ball during that growth spurt and has impressed team-mates like Chris Smalling from the outset.

'He's been training with us for quite a while, even last season,' the United defender said.

'But he's been sort of thrust into some big games, be it Seville or here, and he's not phased.

'You can see him crunching into tackles and that's what we do in training. He goes through people.

'It's good that he's stepped up to his mark.'

February was a breakthrough month for McTominay, but March could be even better for the callow midfielder.

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay chooses to play for Scotland instead of England

* Scott McTominay has to come to prominence at Manchester United this season
* The 21-year-old midfielder was born in Lancaster but his father is Scottish
* Scotland boss Alex McLeish wants to call him up for next month's friendlies

Alex McLeish last night secured his first victory as Scotland manager when he won the tug of war with England for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The new Scotland boss will be at Selhurst Park tonight to watch the 21-year-old in action against Crystal Palace.

And McLeish plans to confirm McTominay's decision by phone tomorrow before naming him in his squad on Thursday morning for the forthcoming friendlies with Costa Rica and Hungary.

Born in Lancaster, the 21-year-old qualifies to play for the Scots thanks to a Glaswegian father. And, speaking back in September 2016, McTominay admitted he feels more Scottish than English.

'The majority of my family is Scottish,' he said. 'My mum has got a little bit but my dad's side is all Scottish. I've been to a few training camps with Scotland. I'm probably more Scottish than I am English but it doesn't bother me really.'

Jose Mourinho sanctioned talks between McLeish and his young protege at United's Carrington training base on Thursday. And McLeish also sought the assistance of Old Traffod legend Sir Alex Ferguson to aid his cause.

Yet to represent England or Scotland at any level, McTominay also spoke to England boss Gareth Southgate on Friday And his decision to commit to the Scots represents a timely boost for McLeish following the decision by Celtic captain Scott Brown to return to international retirement.

Former Scotland international James McFadden is expected to form part of McLeish's backroom team for the Costa Rica and Hungary friendlies and regards the McTominay capture as a 'huge notch'.

Scott McTominay's international future is unclear with England and Scotland fighting for him. The 21-year-old midfielder was born in Lancaster but his father is Scottish so he has a choice. Manchester United boss Mourinho had encouraged McTominay to follow his heart

'His stature, how he goes about his game, he reminds me of Darren Fletcher,' McFadden told BBC Scotland. 'And if we can get someone who has been as good for Scotland as Darren it's a real acquisition.

'I know you don't really sign players for the international team, but England were interested in him and it's fantastic he's chosen to play for Scotland. Not because he's not good enough for England, but because he wants to play for Scotland and that's great to see. He's a fantastic player and it's great for us as a country.

'I'm sure he would have met with Alex and straight away go to see what kind of guy he is. That's what struck me when I met him as a young player. He's a great guy and he gets the best out of players.

'It's a huge notch for him to get someone with the huge talent of McTominay to come and play for us.'

United boss Mourinho had also encouraged McTominay to follow his heart.

Speaking last month, he said: 'I gave him my advice, but I think the parents' advice is more important than mine. I think his own heart is more important than my advice, because my advice is purely from the career point of view.

'I think more important than his career is his feelings, his family's feelings, the way he feels about it and also the overall situation with him.'

Meanwhile, it's understood Southampton striker Sam Gallagher will *not* feature in the Scots squad for the friendly double-header.

Currently on loan at Championship Birmingham, Gallagher played for Scotland at Under-19 level before switching to England. McLeish is interested in luring six foot four 22-year-old back into a dark blue shirt, but wants to see more of him before making the call.

Tolak Inggris, Scott McTominay Pilih Bela Skotlandia

Default Re: Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay's Manchester United career has been a constant upward curve but Crystal Palace provided him with his first knock... he was hauled off after his toughest 45 minutes yet

* Scott McTominay made a decision this week, picking Scotland ahead of England
* The battle over his future revealed how good he has been for Manchester United
* But he struggled against Crystal Palace and was substituted off at half-time
* That might put doubts in Jose Mourinho's mind over his place in starting line-up

If Scott McTominay’s first-team career has been a continual upwards trend, culminating in the battle for his international future that concluded this week, then Crystal Palace provided him with his first knock back.

When it came to the international game. Scotland won out in the end. Alex McLeish convinced McTominay to represent the land of his father during a meeting at Carrington, rather than England, where he was born.

A tug of war for a player with just eight senior games to his name may seem a bit ridiculous on paper, but it spoke for how impressive he has been for Jose Mourinho.

Scott McTominay had his most difficult 45 minutes since making his first-team debut

The starting line-up was symbolic. McTominay was first given a place, it seemed, as a slight to an underperforming Paul Pogba. But there he was, once again selected alongside the Frenchman.

In Mourinho’s pre-match thinking, at least, his strongest midfield includes a place for the 21-year-old.

That may change. This, undoubtedly, was not his day.

It may seem harsh, but Mourinho will not have been happy to see his young charge jogging in the build-up to Andros Townsend’s opening goal.

It might be harsh, but McTominay could be criticised for how he reacted for the opening goal. He tracked back slowly in comparison to his Manchester United team-mates on Monday night

It meant he could only swing a lame leg at the ball across to Andros Townsend, who scored

Only a day ago he said that McTominay would have to ‘fight to have minutes’. That is the minimum expectation for a player in the Portuguese manager’s teams. Especially a young player still earning his stripes.

Yet there he was, moving at a slower pace than the rest of the midfield when it came to tracking back.

And you could — if you were being extremely critical — suggest he would have been able to do more than wave a tame leg at the pass across to Townsend. The line of the ball was probably his to close down.

Even so, it was Pogba who deserved the blame for the goal. He allowed Townsend to run off him and failed to track a winger that is notorious for his ability from range.

In the first-half, at least, that was the problem for McTominay. His midfield partners, the men tasked with guiding him through, were also struggling. Pogba drew a round of ironic cheers from the Palace fans for a spectacular and hugely misplaced pass. Alexis Sanchez turned around at one point and bellowed at the trio to press higher up the field.

They were dominated by Palace’s bank of four, losing 50/50s and battles for the ball with far too much frequency. In the 33rd minute, McTominay was even muscled out of possession by Jeffrey Schlupp.

His sweeping foul on Patrick van Aanholt in the 42nd minute capped off arguably his most difficult 45 minutes since he started featuring regularly for the first-team.

Mourinho clearly agreed, making McTominay the sacrificial lamb to bring Marcus Rashford on at half-time.

This was not his most spectacular response to one of those tests the Premier League throws up on a weekly basis. Ahead of this weekend’s big one against Liverpool, the question now is whether Mourinho thinks McTominay’s exemplary report card is now blotted.
