UNITED CONFIRM EUROPA LEAGUE SQUAD

Manchester United have named a 25-man squad for the Europa League group-stage campaign.

The list of players to face Omonia Nicosia, Real Sociedad and Sheriff Tiraspol in Group E is not exhaustive as those on the 'B' list can still be added on a match-by-match basis.

This includes the likes of Anthony Elanga, with UEFA rules stating that club-trained players born after 1 January 2001 do not have to be counted as part of the main group.

UEFA defines club-trained players as ‘those who have been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA – or for a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.

‘Players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption.’

Defenders Phil Jones and Brandon Williams are currently unavailable and have not been selected based on their respective recovery timescales.

United's six summer signings have all been named and are therefore available to play against Real Sociedad in Thursday's opener at Old Trafford, with kick-off at 20:00 BST.

We then travel to Moldova on 15 September to take on Sheriff, before a double-header with Cypriot side Omonia in October.

Sheriff visit Old Trafford towards the back end of next month, with the away game against La Real closing out the group stage on 3 November.

EUROPA LEAGUE SQUAD

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Martin Dubravka, Tom Heaton.

Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Scott McTominay, Facundo Pellistri, Jadon Sancho, Donny van de Beek.

Forwards: Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo.

ANTONY AND DUBRAVKA SHIRT NUMBERS REVEALED

Manchester United can now confirm which shirt numbers will be worn by Antony and Martin Dubravka, the two players we signed on deadline day at the end of the summer 2022 transfer window.

Brazilian winger Antony will wear 21 following his permanent transfer from Ajax, while Slovakian goalkeeper Dubravka will have 31 on his back during his season-long loan from Newcastle United.

Antony #21 and Dubravka #31 shirt options are now available to purchase at United Direct. Simply use the custom fields to personalise your shirt with their name and number.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Reds' clash with Premier League rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford, this Sunday afternoon at 16:30 BST. Both of our new arrivals will be eligible to play in that eagerly anticipated fixture.

A further opportunity to perform in front of the home fans will swiftly follow when Real Sociedad visit Manchester for our Europa League opener next Thursday, 8 September at 20:00 BST. Tickets for that game are available now to Official Members.

WHO WORE 21 BEFORE ANTONY?

Antony will be the fourth South American player to wear the number 21 shirt for United, after Edinson Cavani (2021/22), Rafael da Silva (2008/09 to 2011/12) and Diego Forlan (2001/02 to 2004/05).

It was last worn by Uruguayan legend Cavani, in the second of his two campaigns at Old Trafford. The prolific striker initially wore number 7 for the Reds but he relinquished this when Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the club a few weeks into last season.

United's other number 21s include Chinese striker Fangzhou Dong (2006/07 to 2007/08), Treble winner Henning Berg (1997/98 to 2000/01) and its first occupant, Northern Irish defender Pat McGibbon.

OUR NUMBER 31s BEFORE DUBRAVKA

Slovakian stopper Martin is the second goalkeeper to wear 31 for United, after Nick Culkin in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 campaigns.

Culkin famously only played 30 seconds of competitive football for the Reds, when he came on as an injury-time substitute for Raimond van der Gouw in our August 1999 victory at Arsenal in the Premier League and took a goal kick.

The shirt number has been more strongly associated with central midfielders, as Nemanja Matic (2017/18 to 2021/22), Bastian Schweinsteiger (2015/16 to 2016/17) and Marouane Fellaini (2013/14 to 2014/15) are the three most recent occupants. Darren Fletcher (2001/02 to 2002/03) and David Jones (2003/04 to 2004/05) also wore it in that area of the team.

Other players who have worn it include defenders Scott Wootton (2012/13), Corry Evans (2010/11), John Curtis (1996/97 to 1997/98) and, during a short temporary stint at Old Trafford, William Prunier (1995/96). Our first 31 after squad numbers were introduced in 1993/94 was the winger Keith Gillespie (also 1994/95).

Phil Jones is LEFT OUT of Man United's Premier League squad as the forgotten defender is given the cold shoulder by Erik ten Hag again... after failing to make the his Europa League squad and reportedly being axed from the dressing room

* Phil Jones does not make Erik ten Hag's final Premier League squad of 25 players
* The out of favour defender has started just twice for United in the last two years
* Jones still has a year left on his contract having signed a four-year deal in 2019

Phil Jones has been left out of Manchester United's finalised squad list for the 2022-23 Premier League season.

The 30-year-old has been left out in the cold by Erik ten Hag, and with his contract up at the end of the season, he will not make another Premier League appearance unless he is registered in January.

Jones joined from boyhood side Blackburn Rovers back in 2011, but has been marginalised at United over the past two seasons, playing just 13 games in that period.

Ten Hag's 25-man squad list includes all six of his summer signings, as well as young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop and third choice left-back Brandon Williams.

The Dutchman has named a total of five central defenders, with regulars club captain Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof joined by Axel Tuanzebe in the squad.

As a result of his omission, it now looks increasingly unlikely that Jones will be given the opportunity to add to his 229 club appearances, even in the cup competitions with five ahead of him in the pecking order and Ten Hag keen to play youngsters.

Phil Jones has been left out of Manchester United's 25-man Premier League squad. Erik ten Hag instead names five central defenders including Axel Tuanzebe ahead of him. Phil Jones was also left out of Manchester United's 25-man Europa League squad. Reports also emerged that the former England international had been axed from the first team

Jones was also left out of the club's Europa League squad list for the coming season, and the out of favour defender has started just twice for United in the last two years.

Reports had surfaced that the out-of-favour centre-half had been ousted from the first-team dressing room at United's Carrington training facility.

Room at Carrington has squeezed since the arrivals of playmaker Christian Eriksen, ex-Real Madrid star Casemiro, goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, left-back Tyrell Malacia and former Ajax pair Antony and Martinez.

Third-choice left-back Williams, 20-year-old Teden Mengi and fellow centre-half Tuanzebe were also told to move down the corridor to the under-23 changing room, according to the Sun.

At only 30-years-old, Jones still has plenty of football ahead of himself, but he will likely need to move away from Old Trafford to achieve that as it stands.

Alongside David de Gea, the former England international is one of only two United players remaining at the club since their last Premier League title in 2013, and has won a Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup and two Community Shields.

Default Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors

Furious Man United fans are having to PROVE they were at matches - because a turnstile IT glitch means the club thinks they stayed away and could STOP them renewing season tickets

* New rules state season-ticket holders must attend 10 of 19 league games
* Fans threatened with being stripped of their seat if they fail to reach that number
* Some fans have been told they did not attend when they were at the game
* They have been asked to provide a raft of information to prove they were there

Manchester United season-ticket holders have been left outraged after being told to provide a description of their clothing and photographic ID so they can be identified on CCTV to prove they were at home matches the club claim they did not attend.

Under stricter rules introduced for the 2022-23 Premier League campaign, United fans must have their ticket scanned for at least 10 of the 19 games at Old Trafford, either by attending personally or passing on to another member, or risk being banned from renewing next season.

Those with concessionary seats have to attend in person.

The club sent out an update to all season-ticket holders last month, which confirmed whether or not their ticket had been scanned for the three league games so far.

Sportsmail can reveal several supporters' tickets, which are all digital following a rollout from the club, did not scan for matches against either Brighton, Arsenal or Liverpool - despite them insisting they were at the game themselves.

United season ticket holders must have their ticket scanned for at least 10 of the 19 home league matches. United were praised for how they handled the reduction of 624 tickets for their allocation for the upcoming Chelsea game

Those affected have been told their attendance will not count towards the 10-match rule unless they provide information to the club such as what they were wearing on the day, photographic ID and a description of the steward they spoke to.

In the bizarre email, seen by Sportsmail, the ticket holder must give responses to as many as nine demands from United.

'We will only be able to investigate further if you provide us with all of the above information,' the email from the club's ticket office reads.

Some supporters received an email from the club asking them to show what they were wearing

The email was sent by United's ticket office to those who insisted they did attend certain matches

Sportsmail understands the Manchester United Supporters Trust are aware of the issue and have raised it with the club.

Supporters are also concerned with the rule itself - which was devised in consultation with fan groups to ensure seats at Old Trafford are not wasted - particularly given the tendency from the Premier League and other bodies to reschedule matches at short notice.

United are one of the few clubs in the Premier League that have an attendance requirement in place.

The development will also do little to ease relations between the United fanbase and the club following moths of angry protests against the Glazer family in recent months.

United, however, were praised for how they handled their allocation being cut by 624 for the away game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on police advice.

The club had already distributed the full 2,994 tickets and offered fans who cancelled a guaranteed ticket for one of their next four away games - at Aston Villa, Fulham, Wolves and Arsenal - or a full refund.

The Metropolitan Police initially wanted to give United just 1,500 seats for the match, eventually scheduled for the 5:30pm kick-off slot on October 22, before the club successfully lobbied for an increase to 2,370.

United declined to comment when contacted by Sportsmail.

Cristiano Ronaldo shares a hug with mentor Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford as the legendary Manchester United boss presents him and David de Gea with awards to mark their landmark achievements of 700 goals and 500 Red Devils appearances

* Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career club goal last weekend
* David de Gea made his 500th appearance for United on Sunday
* Both players were honoured prior to Sunday's clash with Newcastle

Manchester United duo David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo were both honoured by the club ahead of Sunday afternoon's Premier League clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

De Gea was presented with an award to mark the fact that the game was his 500th appearance for United – making him only the 11th player to reach the milestone for the Red Devils.

In a joint presentation before kick-off, Ronaldo also received a silver award from the club after he scored the 700th club goal of his career last weekend.

Ronaldo scored the historic goal in the 2-1 Premier League win against Everton at Goodison Park last Sunday – bringing his total for Manchester United to 144.

According to FIFA records, only Austrian-Czech striker Josef Bican, who retired in 1957, has scored more than Ronaldo's 700 club goals.

Meanwhile, De Gea will – assuming he starts against Newcastle – become the first player from outside the UK and Ireland to make more than 500 appearances for United.

De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has gone on to win one Premier League title, the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League with the club. He has achieved 169 clean sheets in his 499 appearances so far.

Ferguson also shared a moment with new United manager Erik ten Hag before the game

Manchester United are charged by the FA for failing to control players in Newcastle stalemate after referee Craig Pawson was swarmed for ruling out Cristiano Ronaldo's opener at Old Trafford

* Man United have been charged for failing to control their players at the weekend
* Erik ten Hag's men were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle on Sunday
* Cristiano Ronaldo thought he had opened the scoring after the half-time break
* But Craig Pawson ruled the goal out, deeming the ball was not in play at the time
* Furious United stars surrounded Pawson after Ronaldo's opener was disallowed

Manchester United have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players after referee Craig Pawson was surrounded for disallowing a Cristiano Ronaldo goal in Sunday's draw with Newcastle.

Pawson included the incident in his report and the FA announced on Tuesday that United have been charged for failure 'to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 49th minutes of this match'. United have until Thursday to respond.

Ronaldo, who last week accepted an FA misconduct charge, thought he had scored when he took the ball away from Nick Pope as the Newcastle goalkeeper prepared to take a free kick, and scored in an empty net.

Ronaldo thought Fabian Schar had already taken the free kick and passed to Pope so the ball was live. However, Pawson agreed with Newcastle that Pope had yet to take it.

Man United have been charged for failing to control their players in their draw vs Newcastle

Ronaldo led the appeals to Pawson as his teammates surrounded the referee. United manager Erik ten Hag could barely conceal his anger over the incident afterwards, and confronted the match officials after the final whistle to complain.

'I don't have a comment, everyone has seen it,' fumed Ten Hag afterwards. 'I shared that with them (the officials). Everyone has seen what happened today on the pitch.'

Ten Hag then qualified his words during his press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

'I want to express that we have always accepted the refere's decisions,' he said.

'Quite normal that you ask why in the moment. It was a curious incdent. My view is that quickly you have to accept the ref's decision, there is VAR, you accept and move on.

Cristiano Ronaldo thought he had opened the scoring after the half-time break at Old Trafford. But referee Craig Pawson ruled the goal out, sparking a furious reaction from United players

'You are right, we are an example professional players and we have to know our role. A decision like this, it was quite obvious our players took advantage – when he explained it's clear.'

On the decision from the FA to charge his side, Ten Hag added: 'I must say, I don't think [my players' reaction] was too strong,' Ten Hag added. 'It wasn't really aggressive but I don't know what's happening exactly on the pitch because I was too far away.

'I've seen it back on the video. There was a touch from the Newcastle player, that was quite clear and they went to go to the ref to ask about.'

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe had a different view on Sunday, saying: 'I could see it at the time and, for me, it was clear. Fabi (Schar) wasn't taking the free kick. He was allowing Nick to do it.

'I don't think the referee had blown the whistle to re-start play. Nick was waiting to deliver the free kick and Cristiano Ronaldo has taken the ball off him.

'It would have been a very, very difficult goal to swallow if that had stood. For me, it's clear the ball wasn't in play.'

Manchester United are hit with ANOTHER FA charge for failing to control their players against Chelsea, less than a week after being reprimanded for a similar incident during frustrating 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle

* The FA have charged Man United with failing to control their players at Chelsea
* Casemiro's late equaliser rescued a point as the Red Devils drew 1-1 in London
* The players fiercely protested as Scott McTominay conceded Chelsea's penalty
* Man United have until Friday to provide the governing body with their response

Manchester United have been handed yet another FA charge for failing to control their players during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea, less than a week after receiving a similar punishment against Newcastle.

Casemiro's 94th minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge rescued a point for the Red Devils, who fell behind after Scott McTominay conceded a penalty for hauling down Armando Broja in the box ten minutes earlier.

Upon conceding the spot-kick, Manchester United's players protested explosively, surrounding referee Stuart Atwell.

The FA released the following statement on Wednesday: 'Manchester United FC has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 after its fixture versus Chelsea FC on Saturday 22 October 2022 in the Premier League.

'Manchester United allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response.'

The Red Devils were reprimanded with a similar charge following their 0-0 stalemate against Newcastle eight days earlier.

According to the governing body, Manchester United failed to control their players in the 49th minute, when a handful of their furious stars surrounded referee Craig Pawson after he disallowed a goal scored by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Man United to face Cadiz in friendly as part of winter training camp during World Cup in Qatar... with David de Gea and Jadon Sancho among the star names who could feature in game against the LaLiga side

* Man United will take on LaLiga outfit on December 7 during their training camp
* A host of Man United's players will be at the World Cup, which begins on Nov 20
* Those who have not been selected by their countries could make the trip

Manchester United have announced plans to play a friendly against LaLiga side Cadiz as part of a week-long training camp during the World Cup.

A United side featuring players not involved in the tournament will take on the Spanish outfit on December 7.

United said the game would be the first of two friendly matches held while the winter World Cup is taking place in Qatar.

While many of United's first-team squad will be at the World Cup, the match will give Erik ten Hag the chance to give his players a runout ahead of the resumption of the Premier League season on Boxing Day.

United's final game prior to the six-week shutdown is away to Fulham on November 13, before they get back underway against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on December 27.

Erik ten Hag will take his Man United side to Spain for a training camp during the World Cup

Erik ten Hag's men could have a Carabao Cup game in the week before Christmas should they beat Aston Villa in the third round on November 10.

David de Gea, Victor Lindelof and Scott McTominay are among the players who could feature in the Cadiz friendly.

De Gea has reportedly not even made Spain's preliminary 55-man World Cup squad, while Lindelof and McTominay's countries - Sweden and Scotland, respectively - have not qualified.

Jadon Sancho may also travel to Spain for the training camp as his chances of being selected for England by Gareth Southgate appear slim at this stage.

Sancho has struggled for form this season and was an unused substitute in the 1-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday.

French centre back Raphael Varane is facing a race against time to be fit for the World Cup after suffering an injury in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea last Saturday.

Varane, who was visibly distraught as he left the pitch at Stamford Bridge, will not play for United again until the World Cup as a result of the injury.

It is possible the 29-year-old could remain with United instead of going to Qatar if the problem does not heal in time.

United are due to train at Carrington for around a week before heading out to Spain, Ten Hag said.

David de Gea is among the high-profile United stars who could make the trip to Spain. Jadon Sancho may also be in the squad for the training camp as he could miss out on England selection for the World Cup following a below-par start to the season. Ten Hag will be keen to use the training camp to hone his preparations ahead of league return

'It's a strange season. It's not like usual,' he said. 'We have a World Cup but also players will stay behind.

'We have to train them during those six weeks. We have to give them the right programme that they stay in the right fitness levels but also that they stay in the right shape and also in the team style. So we made a programme to do that as optimum as possible.

'We will train here for one week - eight, nine days - then we will have a short break. Then we will return and go to Spain for one week.

'There we can train proper. We have good opponents over there so we can get the game practice in as well.

'Then we will return and will be ready for the second stage of the season, I will say. But that will be a long stage as usual.'

Other Premier League clubs are also set to embark on training camps abroad during the World Cup, which kicks off on November 20.

Newcastle will travel to Saudi Arabia, while Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has said he will take his team 'to a place where the temperature is good'.
