Manchester United fans fly '£2bn stolen' anti-Glazer banner above Elland Road ahead of Premier League clash against Leeds United as they continue to urge American owners to sell and tell them: 'It is too late for apologies... your time is up'

* Manchester United fans flew an ant-Glazer banner above their match at Leeds
* The supporters claim the Glazers have lost the club £2billion since 2005
* Football is reeling from the Super League saga, which Joel Glazer helped create
* The Red Devils fans released a statement saying the Glazer family's 'time is up'
* Over a thousand United fans protested against their owners on Saturday

Manchester United fans flew a banner calling for their owners from Glazer family to quit the club above their club's Premier League clash at Leeds on Sunday.

The Glazer family, with brothers Avram and Joel the leading forces in the running of the Premier League club, were hugely criticised after the Red Devils joined eleven other clubs in creating a European Super League last week.

The breakaway league plan was scrapped after 48 hours on Tuesday but the fall-out from the saga has continued after the clubs planned to change English and European football forever.

Manchester United fans flew an ant-Glazer banner above their league match on Sunday. The banner was flown via plane over United's trip to Leeds on Sunday afternoon at Elland Road

The banner above Elland Road on Sunday read: '2BN stolen. #GlazersOut ' relating to the £2billion the Glazers are accused of taking out of the club since Malcolm Glazer acquired full ownership of the club in2005.

A statement from Manchester United fans then read: 'A banner flew over Elland Road today to serve as a reminder that the Glazer family's destruction of Manchester United goes far beyond their recent attempt at killing the football pyramid.'

'Since their leveraged takeover in 2005, The Glazers have cost Manchester United over £2billion in interest payments, dividends, debts, directors fees, debt repayments and share sales.

'The message is very simple - you are not welcome in Manchester. Enough is enough. It is too late for apologies. Your time is up.'

Fans are unhappy with the Glazers', including Avram and Joel, role in the Super League saga. United fans released a statement saying the Glazers 'are not welcome in Manchester' and their 'time is up'

As Sportsmail revealed last weekend, Joel Glazer was one of the four vice-chairmen on the European Super League board behind Real Madrid's Florentino Perez. Arsenal's Stan Kroenke, Liverpool's John W Henry and Juventus' Andrea Agnelli were the other deputies.

Furthermore, Avram Glazer reportedly refused to apologise to the Manchester United fans this week over the Super League controversy when asked to by the Daily Mirror in front of his £16million Florida home.

On Saturday, more than a thousand Manchester United supporters protested outside Old Trafford against their owners over the recent Super League saga.

Fans chanted 'F*** off Glazers', set off flares and smoke bombs, unfurled anti-Glazer banners and wore scarves with '#GlazersOut ' emblazoned on them.

Many climbed up onto the 'Holy Trinity', a trio of statues depicting club icons George Best, Denis Law and Sir Bobby Charlton, and have put scarves around the players' necks.

Much of the protest was characterised by green and gold colours, harking back to the kit colours of Newton Heath, the club founded in 1878 which later became Manchester United. Supporters have previously worn green and gold scarves and kit in protest against the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

The protests at Old Trafford followed similar scenes at Arsenal and Chelsea this week, with the fellow Premier League supporters complaining against their team's involvement in the project.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City were the other three English teams to join the league last Sunday, with those clubs holding protests with lower numbers this week.

The Mirror also claim it will take a fee over £4billion to convince the Glazer family to sell Manchester United having purchased the club for £790m back in 2005.

After the club quit the Super League project, Joel Glazer wrote an open letter to fans apologising for their role in the breakaway plans.

'You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League, and we have listened, he said. 'We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.

'Although the wounds are raw and I understand that it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.

'We also realise that we need to better communicate with you, our fans, because you will always be at the heart of the club.

'In the background, you can be sure that we will be taking the necessary steps to rebuild relationships with other stakeholders across the game, with a view to working together on solutions to the long-term challenges facing the football pyramid.'

Manchester United supporters to pile pressure on the Glazer family to sell up with 10,000 fans set to attend Old Trafford protest prior to Liverpool clash after renewed outrage of European Super League plans

* Manchester United are beefing up security for the behind-closed-doors match
* Police are aware of a planned protest, with as many as 10,000 fans set to attend
* The Glazer family have been the target of fan fury since their takeover in 2005
* Under their watch, more than £1bn has been drained from Premier League giants
* The club's involvement in Super League plans has led to more unrest from fans

Manchester United are bracing themselves for thousands of protesting fans at Old Trafford before Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

It is understood as many as 10,000 will converge on the stadium to make their feelings clear about United's owners.

The club are beefing up security for the behind-closed-doors match, and police are aware of the planned protest.

As many as 10,000 fans will converge on Old Trafford in protest against the Glazers on Sunday

United's owners, the US-based Glazer family, have been the target of supporters' fury since their heavily-leveraged takeover in 2005.

Under the Glazers, more than £1billion has been drained from United in bank fees and dividend payments.

The club's involvement in the doomed Super League breakaway, championed by co-chairman Joel Glazer, has triggered renewed outrage.

A group of fans have already stormed United's training ground, where they spoke to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and midfielder Nemanja Matic.

A protest was held at Old Trafford last Saturday but Sunday's gathering is expected to be much larger, with the fixture against Liverpool seen as an ideal time to make a big statement.

Avram and Joel Glazer were heavily involved in the European Super League plans. Man Utd fans held a protest at Old Trafford last Sunday but this week's is set to be a lot larger

Those involved want the protest, which will start at 2pm ahead of the 4.30pm kick-off, to be peaceful and socially distanced.

They will call for the Glazers to sell up and voice their support for a similar rule to Germany's 50+1, which stipulates that a club's members control 50 per cent of voting shares plus one share — preventing majority takeovers by external investors.

United say they acknowledge the right to peaceful protest and are planning accordingly.

United legend Paul Scholes slammed the Glazers on Thursday night, saying on BT Sport: 'We've had six years of choosing the wrong managers, wrong type of players and it is down to the ownership.

'It comes down to billionaire owners who are greedy and use this club as a toy to make money.'

JOEL GLAZER COMMITS TO NEW ERA OF DIALOGUE

Joel Glazer has written of his ambition to transform Manchester United’s relationship with fans and increase investment in Old Trafford in a personal letter to our Fans’ Forum.

The Executive Co-Chairman said the club wanted to work with the Forum “to come up with an ambitious package of measures which will transform our relationship with fans and strengthen the club for the long-term”.

Glazer said he would personally meet the Forum as soon as possible after the end of the season as part of an improved dialogue process. He also committed to further strengthening of the team and increased investment in the stadium and training ground.

“We have supported sustained investment in the team over many years, and that will continue this summer,” he said. “We recognise that we will need to significantly increase investment in Old Trafford and our training complex to ensure that the club’s facilities remain among the best in Europe.”

Glazer was writing in response to a letter from Fans’ Forum members last week which called for increased consultation with fans following the controversy around the abandoned plans for a European Super League.

He reiterated his apology “for the mistakes that were made” when we initially agreed to join 11 other leading European clubs in backing the new competition, before quickly withdrawing our support.

“I want to reassure you that my family and I care deeply about Manchester United and feel a profound sense of responsibility to protect and enhance its strength for the long-term, while respecting its values and traditions,” he said.

“Our top priority is, and will always be, competing for the most important trophies, playing entertaining football with a team comprised of top-quality recruits and some of the world’s best homegrown talent. Under Ole, we feel we are absolutely on the right track.”

Glazer said he was “personally humbled” by the Forum members’ “heartfelt” letter explaining their anger over the Super League and made clear the club had to “become better listeners”.

“I want to acknowledge the need for change, with deeper consultation with you as our main fan representative body across a range of important issues, including the competitions we play in,” he said. “We also recognise the importance of fan and football interests being embedded in key decision-making processes at every level of the club, and we are open to constructive discussions on how to reinforce that principle.

“We remain committed to working with the wider football community to make the game stronger and more sustainable over the long-term, and we will now refocus our efforts on doing this within the existing structures of UEFA and the Premier League.”

Glazer said the club would “willingly and openly engage” with the fan-led review of football recently announced by the UK government, “with the aim of putting fans at the heart of the game and ensuring their interests are advanced and protected”.

In particular, he highlighted the club’s support for the principle of fans owning shares in Manchester United.

“We have previously engaged with the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust on fan share ownership and we want to continue and accelerate those discussions, together with provisions to enhance associated fan consultation,” he said.

The Fans’ Forum includes representatives from across the breadth of our match-going fan base, including Season Ticket holders, Members, Official Supporters’ Clubs, Family Stand fans, Over 65s, disabled supporters, and local residents.

Glazer said the Forum was “a vital channel for consultation” and he was personally committed to strengthening it.

“Your heartfelt letter captured the unique spirit of Manchester United,” he added, “forged through decades of triumph, adversity and tragedy, and still powerfully present in today’s exciting team under Ole and the vibrant fanbase which you represent.”

Default Re: Malcolm Glazer & Family

Manchester United chief Joel Glazer admits his family have 'wrongly created the impression that we DON'T care' about the club... but insists he feels 'the weight and responsibility of continuing the traditions' EVERY day

* Joel Glazer's address to Manchester United fans at a forum has been released
* The executive vice-chairman made the admission that mistakes have been made
* Glazer acknowledged that it looks like his family don't care about the club
* He also said he was aware of the strong criticism aimed at United by ex-players

Joel Glazer has conceded Manchester United's owning family have given fans the impression they do not care about the club.

The United co-chairman made the admission in a two-hour meeting with the club's Fans' Forum earlier this month, the minutes of which have now been published.

The meeting was arranged after United's involvement in the short-lived and controversial breakaway European Super League project last month sparked a fresh wave of protests against the Glazer family.

Joel Glazer (right) has conceded Manchester United's owning family have given fans the impression they do not care about the club as details of a meeting with fans are released

The Glazers, who have owned United since 2005, have now promised to communicate better with supporters, among whom they have always been unpopular, and Joel Glazer insists they do love the club.

'We always took the approach that we should stay in the background - let the manager, the players, the people at Old Trafford, be the ones out in front, communicating and talking,' said Glazer, who was told by one fan the club had become a 'laughing stock'.

'In retrospect, that was not the right approach and there's a middle ground. Our silence wrongly created the impression that we don't care, that we aren't football fans, that we only care about our commercial interests and money. I can assure you nothing could be further from the truth.'

United fans have dominated the headlines in recent months with huge anti-Glazer protests

The supporters have demanded change, though Joel Glazer says the family are listening

Glazer claimed that 'not a day has gone by' over the past 16 years when he had not woken up 'feeling the weight and responsibility of continuing the traditions of this club'.

He added: 'Unfortunately, that hasn't been communicated properly. I may not live in Manchester and be fortunate enough to be at Old Trafford every week but, like the hundreds of millions of supporters we have around the world, I watch every match.

'I can't wait for every match, I enjoy the thrill of every goal and I feel the utmost agony of every defeat.'

Glazer set out plans to create a new Fan Advisory Board which would consult with the club's senior leadership on a regular basis. Discussions with the Manchester United Supporters' Trust over a proposed fan share ownership scheme would also be stepped up.

'With these two initiatives, which would just be the beginning, we feel we can reset the relationship with our supporters, strengthen the club as a whole and do bigger and better things,' Glazer said.

The United chief also noted that he is aware of the criticism of former pros such as Gary Neville. Glazer dismissed suggestions he is not a football person as he said he watches every match

Glazer also said he was well aware of the strong criticism aimed at the owning family from the likes of Gary Neville, the former United and England defender who is now a prominent and influential media pundit.

Glazer said: 'I know Gary has been, to say the least, pretty hard on us, and it's OK. Everybody has their views.

'There's two ways to look at it - you can just shut the person out because they're not saying something nice about you and ignore it. Or you can pause, you can listen.

'People always have good points, good ideas and you have to take them to heart. You can't ignore people. We can't ignore things, we have got to listen.

'You can't necessarily accomplish everything, it's not always that simple. Sometimes things are a little more complex, but Gary's a legend. Gary did so much for this club. Gary has good ideas, good thoughts, and they're heard.'

Manchester United's Glazer owners show interest in buying an IPL cricket team valued at over £300m - with view of adding to their sports portfolio which also includes Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers

* The Indian Premier League will expand from eight to 10 participants next year
* The Glazers have collected the tender document for the purchase of a franchise
* Manchester United's owners are one of up to 18 parties to express an interest
* The auction is currently scheduled to take place on Monday in Dubai

Manchester United's owners, the Glazer family, have shown interest in buying one of the two new IPL cricket teams.

Sources in India have told Sportsmail the Glazers have collected the tender document for the purchase of one of the franchises ahead of an auction next week.

Buying the invitation to tender (ITT) does not guarantee the American billionaires will submit a bid for an IPL team, valued at more than £300million.

Man Utd's owners, the Glazers, have shown interest in buying one of the new IPL cricket teams. The Glazers have collected the tender document for the purchase of one of the franchises ahead of next week's auction

But they are one of up to 18 parties to express an interest, alongside a number of Indian businesses and CVC Capital Partners, the private equity firm, who have previously invested in rugby's Six Nations and Premiership.

As well as Manchester United, the Glazer family also own Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and so a cricket team would strengthen their sports ownership portfolio.

Having the owners of United in charge of an IPL franchise would also undoubtedly boost the Premier League club's profile in India.

The IPL – cricket's most successful Twenty20 competition – is currently made up of eight teams but is expanding to 10 participants next year. The ITT, which costs around £10,000, was first put out at the end of August and the deadline for purchasing it closed on Wednesday.

Closed bids for the new franchises will then be submitted at an auction currently scheduled to take place on Monday in Dubai with an announcement expected the following day.

The cities shortlisted to host the two teams are Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Indore, Cuttack, Guwahati and Dharamsala.

Manchester United's Glazer owners are outbid for the two new IPL teams by CVC Capital and RPSG in nightmare 24 hours for American family following Premier League club's thrashing by Liverpool

* The Glazers had been interested in buying one of the two new IPL franchises
* But the Manchester United owners have been outbid by RPSG and CVC Capital
* It is a fresh blow for the Glazers following United's recent top-flight displays
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were hammered 5-0 by Liverpool on Sunday
* The club now sit seventh in the Premier League table, having lost three matches

The Glazers suffered yet more misery on Monday when they missed out on buying an Indian Premier League cricket team.

A day after their football club were humiliated 5-0 by rivals Liverpool, Manchester United co-chairman Avram Glazer was in Dubai for the auction of the two new IPL franchises.

The Glazers were one of 10 parties to submit a bid for a team who will take their place in next spring's competition when it expands from eight sides to 10.

However, the United owners, who also run NFL outfit Tampa Bay Buccaneers, failed in their attempt to expand their sports empire after bidding less than £500million.

Manchester United's Glazer owners have been outbid for the two new IPL franchises. The Indian Premier League is set to expand from eight sides to 10 ahead of the 2022 season

Instead, the franchise in Ahmedabad went to the global private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, who have shares in rugby's Six Nations and Premiership as well as Spanish football's LaLiga.

India's RPSG Group, led by businessman Sanjiv Goenka, bought the Lucknow team with the highest bid of around £675m.

IPL chairman, Brijesh Patel, said: 'The level of interest among the interested parties prove that IPL is among the most sought-after sporting leagues in the world.

'We had bids from different parts of the world and from parties with diverse portfolios wanting to make a foray into the world of sports.'

'It is good be back in the IPL and I am delighted. It is an initial step. We now have to build a good team and perform,' Goenka told ESPNcricinfo.

RPSG also owned Rising Pune Supergiants, who played in the IPL in 2016 and 2017 when 2021 champions Chennai Super Kings and inaugural winners Rajasthan Royals were banned after being found guilty in an illegal betting and match-fixing probe.

But at the other end of the stick, United's American owners have undoubtedly wasted the chance to boost the Premier League club's profile in India in another blow for them in the 24 hours following United's humiliation.

Capital CVC - who have previously invested in the Six Nations - won the Ahmedabad side

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team were hammered by Liverpool at Old Trafford, with United conceding four of them in the first half.

Mohamed Salah then completed his hat-trick to round off the scoring early in the second half, before Paul Pogba was sent off for a two-footed challenge.

The pressure has therefore increased on the Norwegian boss, who is now the shortest odds he's ever been to leaving the club he joined nearly three years ago now.

Recent reports claim the United dressing room has lost faith in him but no immediate decision on his future from the hierarchy appears forthcoming.

RPSG - led by businessman Sanjiv Goenka - made a successful bid for the Lucknow-based side. RPSG also owned Rising Pune Supergiants, who played in the IPL in the 2016 and 2017 seasons

But it was yet another big blow for Solskjaer, whose side now sit seventh in the Premier League table following their third defeat of the top-flight season.

Matches are not becoming any easier either for United, who face a trip to Tottenham at the weekend before the Manchester Derby to start November, a month in which they also face Chelsea and Arsenal.

Meanwhile, next year will not be the first time there are 10 teams in the IPL, with the tournament including the same number of sides a decade ago. The last time more than eight teams played in the IPL was in 2013, when nine teams took part.

Five IPL franchises have fallen by the wayside since its inception in 2008, namely Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions.

Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer buys a franchise in the new UAE T20 League - with businessman making his first venture into cricket after losing in the bidding war for the two new money-spinning IPL teams

* Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has made his first foray into cricket
* Glazer, 61, completed the purchase of a franchise in the new UAE T20 League
* He is in control of one of the six teams in the competition, which starts next year
* The move comes after the Glazer family lost out on the two new IPL franchises

Manchester United's co-owner Avram Glazer has bought a franchise in the newly formed T20 League in the United Arab Emirates.

Glazer, who also owns NFL Super Bowl winners Tampa Bay Buccaneers, completed the purchase in what is his first venture into cricket in his role as chairman of Lancer Capital, the private equity firm.

He is now in control of one of six franchises in the competition, which is set to take place in February and March next year.

Earlier this year, the Glazer family were unsuccessful in their attempt to buy one of the two new IPL franchises.

RPSG and CVC Capital won in the bidding war, with the money-spinning league expanding from eight to 10 members.

'I am very excited to be a part of UAE T20 at its formation,' Glazer, 61, said.

'UAE T20 promises to be a world class event that will be transformative to the growth of cricket in the Emirates.'

Glazer has been co-chairman at United since 2005, when the much-maligned group took full control of the club.

Khalid Al Zarooni, the chairman of the UAE T20 League, said: 'I am very excited to welcome Mr Glazer to the UAE T20 Family.

'To have a partner who has invested into sports properties with a long-term perspective is a testament to the strength of the UAE T20 League's business model and its value proposition to fans and its stakeholders, and an ode to the UAE as the destination of choice for global sports events.'

The Indian Premier League is set to expand from eight sides to 10 ahead of the 2022 season. RPSG - led by businessman Sanjiv Goenka - made a successful bid for the Lucknow-based side

The inaugural edition of the tournament, which has been sanctioned by the Emirates Cricket Board, will feature 34 matches across its two month span.

However, the names of the franchises are yet to be announced.

The UAE and Oman recently hosted the men's T20 World Cup, after it was moved away from India as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Glazers are in exclusive talks to sell a minority stake in United to US private equity firm Apollo, with some family members wanting OUT amid fan backlash… but Joel and Avram are STAYING

* US private equity firm Apollo are in talks and may bring in other investors
* Although the Glazers will not cede control, some family members want out
* United’s share price went up on the New York Stock Exchange amid speculation

The Glazer family have entered into exclusive talks with US private equity firm Apollo to sell a minority stake in Manchester United.

Although the Glazers are not prepared to cede control of the club — brothers Avram and Joel are expected to keep their shares and oversee the day-to-day running of Old Trafford — other family members are understood to want out.

It follows renewed criticism of the Glazers’ ownership as fans threaten to boycott Monday’s home match against Liverpool in protest — where United will bid to avoid starting the season with three straight defeats.

United’s share price rose sharply on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday as speculation mounted that the Glazers might bring in new investors or sell out completely. The shares closed at $13.69 (£11.36), up 7.1 per cent.

Any deal to sell a minority stake to Apollo is not expected to be concluded until next month at the earliest.

After first purchasing shares in the Red Devils in 2003, the Glazer family became the majority shareholders of the club in 2005.

It is understood Apollo may bring in other investors as part of any deal.

However, the consortium is not expected to include bidders who missed out on the recent sale of Chelsea, such as Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

A spokesperson for Ratcliffe claimed on Wednesday the 69-year-old would be interested in buying United if the club were put up for sale.

Joel Glazer 'will make the final decision over Cristiano Ronaldo's Man United future', after striker blasted the club's US owners for 'not caring' and making them a 'marketing club' in tell-all interview

* Man United co-owner Joel Glazer will have 'the final say' on Cristiano Ronaldo
* The American family were one of several club figures targeted in his interview
* The 37-year-old accused the Old Trafford club of being solely a 'marketing club'
* Ronaldo also believes that their unpopular owners do not care about the team

Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer is set to have the final say on wantaway forward Cristiano Ronaldo's future, after the Portuguese legend's infamous interview.

Sources close to Glazer have claimed that the American will ultimately make the final decision on the forward, and that it will be up to super-agent Jorge Mendes to present willing suitors to the club in order to manufacture a move.

The 37-year-old blasted numerous figures from the club, both past and present, before taking aim at their owners for 'not caring' about the team.

In the explosive tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, the wantaway forward levelled accusations at the club's already-unpopular owners.

He said: 'Manchester [United] is a marketing club, they will get its money from the marketing, the sports they don't really care, in my opinion.'

He also suggested that the club's supporters continue to protest against the American owners, adding: 'The fans, they're always right. I think the fans should know the truth - should now that the players... we want the best for the club.

'I want the best of the club. This is why I am coming to Manchester United. This is why I love this club.'

With his contract up in the summer, Ronaldo is free to talk to clubs from abroad this winter, and he will now surely be on the verge of an exit given how many bridges he would appear to have burned.

And the Glazers were not the only victims of Ronaldo's attack, which saw him openly admit to having no respect for current manager Erik ten Hag.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner said he felt that United had 'betrayed' him as well as attacking club legends Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney for criticising his behaviour at the club, particularly his refusal to come off the bench against Tottenham.

He also stated that he had never even heard of former manager Ralf Rangnick before he took over at Old Trafford last season, and was critical of the club's lack of technological advancement since his exit almost 13 years ago.

Joel Glazer will reportedly have the final say on Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United future. A meeting was held on Monday which involved Ten Hag and co-chairman Joel Glazer. Ronaldo accused the Red Devils of being a 'marketing club' and 'not caring' about football. Ronaldo's interview was unsanctioned by the club and featured attacks on several figures from the club's past and present. He said there are multiple people at the club that are trying to force him out of the door

The higher-ups at United are thought to be impressed with Ten Hag's handling of the seemingly on-going Ronaldo situation, especially after he dropped the Portugal icon from the first-team and ordered him to train by himself.

And the club issued a statement following the unsanctioned interview, which said: 'Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff and fans.'
