Manchester United players banned from stopping to sign autographs for kids on way to training at Carrington

* Kids will no longer be able to get the autographs of their heroes
* Autographs are being clamped down on at Manchester United's training ground
* A sign has been erected telling supporters not to congregate on the road

Young fans have been denied the chance to bag autographs from their Manchester United idols outside the club's Carrington training ground.

A large sign has been erected telling supporters that players are no longer allowed to stop on the road for signings.

It reads: 'Players are not permitted to stop and sign autographs due to danger on the road. No congregating.'

Manchester United players will no longer be permitted to sign autographs for young fans

On Wednesday both manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and new man Daniel James were pictured reaching out of their car windows to make kids' dreams come true.

But these scenes will now become part of the past outside United's training complex.

United moved to Carrington - less than 10 miles from Old Trafford - in 2000.

Sir Alex Ferguson was unhappy with the lack of lack of privacy at their previous training ground, The Cliff, and specifically with the number of autograph and picture requests for his players.

Manchester United stars are competing in their own Fantasy Football league… where rivals City have helped put Chris Smalling top (and which star hasn't picked himself or ANY Old Trafford team-mates?!)

* Manchester United stars are battling it out in their own fantasy football league
* Chris Smalling tops 'The MUFC Tiki-Taka Fantasy' after two rounds of matches
* Some players have included Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in their teams
* Joel Pereira and Daniel James are the only stars to exclude Man City players
* James is also the only Red Devils player to include himself in his fantasy team

Nine Manchester United stars have celebrated the beginning of the new Premier League season by starting their own fantasy football competition.

The league, named 'The MUFC Tiki-Taka Fantasy', contains teams led by Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Joel Pereira, Harry Maguire, Ashley Young, Lee Grant, Dan James and mystery manager 'Tiki Taka Legend' - believed to be Andreas Pereira.

Smalling tops the table so far with 138 points and has Manchester rivals Oleksandr Zinchenko, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne to thank for his lofty league position.

Chris Smalling is standing proud at the top of The MUFC Tiki-Taka Fantasy league at present

The City stars accumulated an impressive 18 points between them last week, while David de Gea, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are the only United players to be included in Smalling's 15-man squad.

Fellow defender Phil Jones is hot on his heels in second place though. His team 'PJ'19' boasts Liverpool players Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the only Red Devil to feature in the starting line-up.

Third-placed Luke Shaw is another player who will be secretly thankful for Sterling's fine start to the season. The England winger partners United forward Martial in the 'LS23' midfield with Greenwood earning a spot on the bench.

Cult hero Lee Grant hasn't had such a positive start to the fantasy football campaign.

His team are lingering in seventh and are in desperate need of points so captain Anthony Martial's goal against Chelsea gave 'BlackCat FC' a welcome boost last week. Ashley Young, sixth in the table, hasn't picked any United players at all.

Ashley Young hasn't picked any United players - instead calling on Liverpool and City for points

Quote:
WHO THEY'VE ALL PICKED...

Chris Smalling: De Gea; Kelly, Van Dijk, Zinchenko, Robertson; Sterling, Martial, De Bruyne, Salah; Adams, King.

Phil Jones: Patricio; Keane, Wan-Bissaka, Robertson, Lascelles; Salah, Sterling, Mane, Neves; Barnes, Kean

Luke Shaw: Pickford; Hanley, Smith, Wan-Bissaka; Sterling, De Bruyne, Fraser, Maddison, Martial; Aguero, King.

Joel Pereira: Leno; Alexander-Arnold, Maitland-Niles, Van Dijk; Richarlison, Martial, Salah, A. Pereira; Rashford, Aubameyang, King.

Harry Maguire: Adrian; Robertson, Keane, Dunk, A. Smith; Salah, Bernardo, Richarlison, Martial; Rashford, Kane.

Ashley Young: Ederson; Azpilicueta, Walker, Van Dijk, Matip; Lanzini, Neves, Moutinho, Townsend; Aubameyang, Aguero.

Lee Grant: Ryan; Chilwell, Wan-Bissaka, Soyuncu; Bernardo, Tielemans, Martial, Mane; Rashford, Kane, Deulofeu.

Andreas Pereira: Pickford; Ake, Laporte, Wan-Bissaka; Martial, Zaha, Bernardo, Maddison; Jesus, Aubameyang, Kean.

Daniel James: Ederson; Ake, Robertson, Maguire, Walker-Peters; Fraser, James, Pulisic, Zaha; Kane, Rashford.
New signing Harry Maguire has settled in well. His 'Champs' sit in a comfortable fifth spot with deadly duo Rashford and Martial raking in the points while Greenwood provides firepower from the bench.

Meanwhile, it's been a sorry start for James whose 'DJtalent' outfit are currently rock bottom of the league on 24 points.

The modest Welshman has included himself in his own team, perhaps explaining why he celebrated with so much passion after his debut goal against Chelsea.

Manchester United chasing Celtic and Scotland physio Tim Williamson as injuries pile up

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is continuing to reshuffle his backroom team
* There are concerns over the number of soft tissue, non-contact injuries
* Manchester United have advertised for a head physio and conducted interviews

Manchester United have targeted Celtic and Scotland physio Tim Williamson as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to reshuffle his backroom team.

There are concerns at United over the number of soft tissue, non-contact injuries that have seen Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Angel Gomes sidelined in the early part of the season.

Some of those players have recovered but Solskjaer has already confirmed that Martial will be missing for a seventh game in a row when his side face AZ Alkmaar in Holland on Thursday.

It's understood that United have advertised for a head physio and already conducted some interviews, but Williamson has been identified as a leading candidate.

Celtic's head of physiotherapy is in his second spell at the Scottish club having previously worked at Birmingham as well as Tottenham and Leeds United academies. Williamson's services are also used by the Scotland national team.

United have made a number of changes to the backroom staff since Solskjaer returned to the club as manager in December.

The Norwegian was reunited with head goalkeeper coach Richard Hartis and coach Mark Dempsey who both assisted him at Molde and Cardiff City.

It's understood United have advertised for a head physio, but Williamson is a leading candidate. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is continuing to reshuffle his backroom team at Old Trafford

Hartis' return to United in June culminated in last week's departure of goalkeeper coach Emilio Alvarez who had worked closely with David de Gea for the last three years.

Dempsey, meanwhile, is easing his way back into the set-up at Carrington after he was at the centre of a health scare on the club's pre-season tour in Perth, forcing him to fly home and miss the remaining legs in Singapore and Shanghai.

The 55-year-old has since been on sick leave but has observed training several times, most recently on Sunday.

Having promoted Under-18s fitness coach Charlie Owen to first-team duties in March, United also appointed Ed Leng from Melbourne City as lead sports scientist and brought back ex-player Michael Clegg as first-team strength and power coach in July.

More recently, Martyn Pert has been working with the first-team at Carrington. Pert is a well travelled coach who also has a background in sports science.

The changes have done little to reduce the size of United's backroom team. At West Ham 10 days ago, the club had 30 coaching and support staff on duty in addition to the 20-man playing squad.

Manchester United report sexual abuse allegations made against former kitman Billy Watts to scandal inquiry

* Manchester United are aware of sexual abuse allegations against ex-employee
* Billy Watts worked as a caretaker, kit man and groundsman at training ground
* It was revealed that Watts was the subject of internal disciplinary action in 1989
* United have submitted that information and other records to Sheldon Review

Manchester United have passed on allegations regarding a former employee as part of their cooperation with the official inquiry into historic sexual abuse.

Billy Watts, who died in 2009, undertook a number of jobs at The Cliff in Salford during the 1980s, including caretaker, groundsman and kit man.

Watts was the subject of internal disciplinary action in 1989 and subsequently moved away from the training ground, which housed the club's junior teams as well as the senior squad.

Details of that complaint have not been made clear. United have reported that and two further incidents to the inquiry, led by Clive Sheldon QC.

The Football Association's independent inquiry was set-up following Andy Woodward's account of years of sexual abuse as a child by serial paedophile, Barry Bennell.

Bennell is serving a 30-year prison sentence and Woodward's disclosure in 2016 prompted other victims to go public with allegations.

According to the Athletic, a complaint was also made to United in late 2016 from a man who alleged to have witnessed Watts attempting to inappropriately touch a trainee.

Watts was featured in United's official yearbook in 1988 with his staff profile reading: 'We've never been able to find out just what Billy does! Suffice to say that he always seems to be busy and is quite the fixture now at The Cliff, our main training ground.' United have submitted relevant information to the Sheldon Review in accordance with a request for each club in the Premier League and Football League to report any complaints or concerns fielded that 'expressed to, or held by your club, in relation of child abuse'.

A United statement read: 'We have cooperated fully with the Sheldon Review in an effort to make sure we were as comprehensive on this important matter as we could be.

'This involved conducting multiple interviews as part of our wide-ranging enquiries pursuant to the review.

'These included a former employee who had conducted the disciplinary process against the former caretaker in the 1980s and other current and former employees who worked at the club in the 70s and 80s.

'All interviewees provided their full cooperation and information relating to the former caretaker has been included in Manchester United's submissions to the review.

'Identifying facts from historical allegations is never an easy process and their report will include any issues relating to Manchester United that are considered relevant by the review team.'

Manchester United stars travel to Dubai for warm weather training camp over the international break in bid to boost their fitness levels

Several Manchester United players will begin a warm weather training camp in Dubai this week in a bid to boost their fitness.

United players flew out on Monday to take part in the camp, which will be held over the international break, according to Manchester Evening News.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men, who beat Brighton 3-1 at the weekend, went to Dubai back in January after knocking Reading out of the FA Cup.

Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic were also there recently as they stepped up their recovery from injury.

There are fitness worries about both Marcos Rojo and Scott McTominay. Rojo pulled out of the Argentina squad on Sunday after coming on as a second-half substitute during the win over Brighton while McTominay is set to have a scan on his ankle after being stretchered off in the last minute of Sunday's game.

The midfielder is due to be on international duty with Scotland but could be forced to withdraw from their Euro 2020 qualifiers depending on the severity of his injury.

David de Gea, Harry Maguire, Daniel James, Victor Lindelof and Marcus Rashford will not be part of the squad that has travelled to Dubai for warm weather training due to international commitments.

Manchester United's drab grey kit, infamously ditched by Sir Alex Ferguson halfway through 3-1 defeat by Southampton in 1996, given pride of place in hall of shame at National Football Museum

* The grey number has gone down in history as Manchester United's worst kit ever
* 'Strip! How Football Got Shirty' has opened at the museum in Manchester
* It is showcasing the largest ever curated collection of shirts in the country
* There's room for some of the biggest fails with United's grey away kit prominent

It has gone down in history as Manchester United's worst kit ever and the drab grey number that was infamously ditched by Sir Alex Ferguson halfway through a game at Southampton in April 1996 has pride of place in the hall of shame at a new exhibition at the National Football Museum.

'Strip! How Football Got Shirty' has opened at the museum in Manchester, showcasing the largest ever curated collection of shirts in the country.

It includes the popular designs worn by England and West Germany at Italia '90 and Brazil's iconic 1970 jersey, and there's room for some of the biggest fails with United's grey away kit prominent among them.

Man United's drab grey kit has pride of place in a hall of shame at National Football Museum

Ferguson's team wore it on five occasions in total without winning a single game as they lost four times and drew once. It came to a head at The Dell when United were 3-0 down at half-time and Ferguson ordered his players to change into their blue and white third kit because they couldn't see each other. They eventually lost 3-1.

Explaining the decision to include the shirt in his hall of shame, exhibition curator Jon Sutton said: 'Probably because this shirt has become infamous, being blamed for United's 3-1 defeat to Southampton during that season.

'The light grey colour supposedly made team-mates harder to pick out on the pitch against the background of the crowd. A clear case of colour and design being instrumental when picking a team's colours.

The kit was ditched by Sir Alex Ferguson halfway through a game at Southampton in 1996

'Generally speaking a lot of time, thought and money goes into the design of shirts, they are after all big business. That's not to say that they still don't get it right all of the time, for example the Warrior Liverpool third shirts from 2012-13 season had strange colour combinations of purple, amber and white which the fans really didn't take to.

'I suppose like anything trends come and go. Fashion at the moment is having a 90s revival and the same is true of football shirts with the shirts and trippy designs of the 90s being particularly desirable.

'I guess the Adidas West Germany kit is one of the most iconic, successfully blending the colours of the West German flag with an eye-catching diamond shape. This became a blueprint for other shirts of the era and is still revered by football fans today.

'We've always collected and displayed a selection of shirts in the museum but they've generally been displayed in the context of a particular player or game.

'We thought there was a great opportunity to curate an exhibition focusing on how design, technology and fashion have influenced and are influenced by football shirts and to explore how they have become true objects of desire in their own right.'

Manchester United give away 30,000 tickets to kids for cup games in a bid to make less-popular matches affordable for younger fans

* Manchester United have given free tickets away to under-16s for cup fixtures
* The scheme has been designed to allow more children to attend Old Trafford
* The figure is set to top 30,000 after Wednesday's game against Colchester Utd

Manchester United will have sold 30,000 free tickets to groups of children following Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash against Colchester United at Old Trafford.

The club ticketing initiative for cup games has included the third round clash against Rochdale, as well as all three Europa League group games against Astana, Partizan Belgrade and AZ Alkmaar.

Schools, local football teams and other youth organisations have benefited from the scheme to see the Red Devils in action this season, increasing the capacity for less-popular fixtures.

The scheme has seen young supporters pile in for cup matches at Old Trafford this season. The move has been designed to increase the capacity for less-popular fixtures at the ground

The community initiative has been designed to make watching football at Old Trafford more affordable for young supporters.

'We are committed to helping younger fans watch live, affordable football,' said Manchester United COO Collette Roche in a press statement.

'This is part of our efforts to help create a consistently vibrant atmosphere at Old Trafford and encourage our next generation of match-goers.'

As well as the free cup scheme, there are other cheap initiatives which have been used by the club this season.

Stadium-wide, under-16 tickets are Ł10, there is a 50 per cent discount on tickets for the 16-17 age bracket and 25 per cent discount for 18-20 year-olds.

The club also froze season ticket prices this season for the eighth consecutive campaign, and the ninth in 10 years.

'While the stadium is sold out for the vast majority of games, we feel that it is important to seize these rare opportunities to widen access and give back to our local community,' Roche continued

'The feedback that we have received on this grassroots ticketing promotion has been terrific.

'It's put a smile on a lot of kids' faces, many of whom will have visited Old Trafford for the first time.'
