Romelu Lukaku Memang Bisa Diandalkan Man United
Lucas Aditya - detikSport

Now Romelu Lukaku must prove he can shoot down top sides... plus my team of the weekend

* Romelu Lukaku scored dramatic winner against Southampton in 3-2 victory
* Belgian has been second fiddle to Marcus Rashford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Lukaku needs to show that he can deliver for Manchester United on big stage
* It is a no-brainer that Scott Parker should be made permanent Fulham manager

When Romelu Lukaku ripped off his shirt in celebration of his dramatic winner against Southampton, it was more than just an act of pure elation.

After a week in which his physique had been questioned, Lukaku wanted to send a clear message that he is fit, firing and hungry to be Manchester United’s main man.

United are flying under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but, relegated to the bench, Lukaku will not have enjoyed the last couple of months.

Romelu Lukaku scored a dramatic winner for Manchester United against Southampton. The Belgian forward has hit form recently and needs to prove he is the man for a big game

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been deservedly praised to the hilt since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho. Constant plaudits for the players in his position will have been incredibly difficult for Lukaku to take.

When he was given a rare start against Fulham last month, he failed to stake his claim to rise in the pecking order. After the game, I argued that he was the one player who had not shown an improvement under Solskjaer.

Injuries have given him another route back into the team and he deserves immense credit for the way he has seized his chance this time. Instead of sulking, he came to the rescue for his team at just the right time.

He is brimming with confidence after back-to-back braces against Crystal Palace and Southampton.

If he wants to prove that he can lead the line for United, he now needs to show he can deliver on the biggest stages.

At his best, defenders cannot handle Lukaku’s pace and physicality, but he often lacks the clever movement and ability to sniff out a chance in the penalty area that you need to be a top-quality forward.

Harry Kane may not be the quickest but his intelligent movement allows him to create his own chances from all manner of positions.

Since the start of last season, Kane has scored eight goals against Tottenham’s top-six rivals. Lukaku has scored just one in that time, against Chelsea in February 2018.

United need him to start delivering in the big games, starting on Sunday at Arsenal, which is shaping up to be a shootout for the top four.

Score the decisive goal in this huge game and Lukaku will go a long way to proving that he can be a great Manchester United forward.

Default Re: Romelu Lukaku

ON-FIRE LUKAKU SETS PERSONAL RECORD

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukau is on fire at the moment, scoring multiple goals in three successive matches for the first time in his club career.

The big Belgian's first-half double in Wednesday's thrilling Champions League away win over Paris Saint-Germain follows back-to-back Premier League braces at the expense of Crystal Palace and Southampton.

But while it's the first time Lukaku has netted more than once in three games on the spin, he's no stranger to scoring sequences in general. In fact, he scored in his first three competitive appearances in United colours – against Real Madrid in the Super Cup final, West Ham United and Swansea City at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

Had his penalty not been saved by Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel in the next game, that run would have extended to an amazing 10 matches as he managed to net in each of his next six outings after the 2-0 win over the Foxes (in which Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini were the scorers).

Lukaku also netted in three successive fixtures in March 2018 - against Sevilla, Brighton and Swansea - and more recently in the early weeks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as caretaker manager. The Belgian scored against Bournemouth on 30 December, came off the bench to break the deadlock at Newcastle United three days later and was then on target in the Emirates FA Cup third-round triumph over Reading.

Although he was not always a starter in Solskjaer's side during January and February, a rare lean spell for the marksman followed his Reading effort - he went nine games without a goal. There were mitigating circumstances as he played in a wider role in some of the fixtures and became more of a creator than a finisher.

Yet he has relished a return to a central role and has caught fire at just the right time of the season. The doubles against Palace, Southampton and now PSG show he is at the very peak of his powers.

Both finishes in Paris were clinical, ruthlessly punishing a poor backpass by Thilo Kehrer inside two minutes by rounding Gianluigi Buffon and squeezing the ball home from an ever-decreasing angle. His second goal was the sort that will delight Ole, feeding on the rebound after Buffon made a hash of a speculative long-ranger from Rashford.

And some say he doesn’t score against the bigger clubs. Lukaku may still only be 25 but he keeps setting goal records. And this latest purple patch bodes extremely well for the challenges that lie ahead, namely the trips to Arsenal and Wolves in the Premier League and FA Cup respectively.

HOW A 50-50 WITH IBRA CHANGED IT ALL FOR LUKAKU

Romelu Lukaku has revealed how a 50/50 challenge with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in training taught him everything that he needed to know about the Swedish goalscoring legend.

Ibra, as he is affectionately known, called time on his Manchester United career one year ago today to start his American adventure with Major League Soccer outfit Los Angeles Galaxy.

That decision was partly inspired by the realisation that he could no longer perform, week in and week out, as he desired at Old Trafford, following the frustrating period of injury that blighted his second season as a Red.

Everybody is pleased see Zlatan playing so well in the USA and Lukaku is among those in the current United squad who are still benefiting from the wisdom that the giant centre-forward shared.

While answering questions submitted by fans on social media, Lukaku was asked what he learned from Ibra, and the Belgian’s mind wandered back to one particularly competitive training match.

“Everything I learned from Zlatan was great, from his stories that he told me when he was at Inter, AC Milan, Barcelona and even Ajax, to being on the field working with him, seeing how competitive he was,” explained Lukaku, in a video first published on Thursday afternoon.

“I remember one training session,” Lukaku continued. “Because we were both strikers, we were never on the same team and, at one point, there was a 50/50 challenge. He went full-on against me!

“That is when I knew this guy wants to compete and this guy wants to fight for his spot. That is why he changed me. It was an eye-opener. The guy had to fight to be in the position he is in.

“So, I learned just to focus, work hard and enjoy it as well. Because he is a guy who you can have a lot fun with as well and having his personality in the dressing room was good.”

HOW IS ZLATAN PERFORMING?

The big man was an instant hit during his first season in MLS, beginning with a bang by scoring twice in the inaugural Los Angeles derby – one of which was an acrobatic strike that stunned the world.

He went on to score 22 goals in 27 appearances that campaign, earning a place in the coveted All-Star team that played a one-off exhibition match against his former club Juventus. Unfortunately, his efforts did not drive the Galaxy into the play-off, as they finished seventh in the Western Conference.

In the new season, Zlatan has made one appearance so far and scored in a 2-1 home win over Bastian Schweinsteiger's Chicago Fire.

'And people call me slow!': Romelu Lukaku hits back at his critics and claims he's the fastest player at Manchester United... but do the stats back up his claim?

* Romelu Lukaku has made the claim that he is the fastest Manchester United star
* Red Devils boast speed merchants such as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial
* Answering a series of questions for fans Lukaku backed himself as quickest
* The Belgian is often criticised for his muscular frame and mobility on the pitch

Romelu Lukaku has made the bold claim that he is the fastest player in the Manchester United squad and hit back at critics who slam his mobility.

The Belgium international has spent spare time over the international break answering questions for United supporters, when one fan queried who was the greatest pace merchant at Old Trafford.

United boast the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial who have evidenced on various occasions that they can leave opponents for dead, but Lukaku believes he holds the title.

Romelu Lukaku has labelled himself the fastest player in the Manchester United squad. The Belgian was answering questions for United supporters during the international break

Taking to the Red Devils official Instagram account, Lukaku read out the question by the fan before sheepishly holding up his hand.

The striker needed no time at all to decide, safe in the knowledge that nobody at Old Trafford would beat him in a foot race.

Quote:

Lukaku doesn't appear to be all talk after all, as the stats this season show him to be among United's most rapid.

Of the top ten fastest United sprints recorded this season, three times the Belgian features.

Lukaku blazed a trail against Watford, Wolves and Burnley - featuring as many times in the list as Marcus Rashford.

Of all the top sprints, Lukaku comes out on top with an eye-watering dash of 34.89km/h.

Statistics courtesy of Opta
Breaking into a smile and pointing directly at the camera, Lukaku added: 'And people call me slow!'

While some may doubt him, Lukaku has figures behind him which back up the extraordinary claim.

As well as statistically emerging as the fastest on the pitch this season, he also recorded United's quickest sprint of 34.84km/h in the 2017-18 campaign, and was responsible for three of the club's five quickest on-pitch sprints of the season.

United are still waiting on the fitness of Lukaku, after the 25-year-old had to pull out of the Belgium camp due to injury.

The national side confirmed last week that Lukaku had departed training in order to have an MRI scan on his foot, before returning to Manchester.

United will be banking on Lukaku returning sooner rather than later, as they still harbour hopes of securing a place in the Champions League for next season.

United currently sit in fifth place in the division, two points adrift of rivals Arsenal in the coveted fourth spot.

Default Re: Romelu Lukaku

LUKAKU: WE MUST BE SMART AGAINST BARCA

Romelu Lukaku insists Manchester United must be “smart” in our Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against Barcelona.

Ernesto Valverde’s La Liga leaders travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, as Lukaku could take on Barcelona for the first time in his competitive career.

The 25-year-old believes we are meeting one of the very best sides in Europe and, therefore, the Reds cannot afford any lapses in concentration in either leg against the powerful Catalan outfit.

“For the game against Barcelona, we need to be focused from the first minute until the very last minute of the second leg,” Lukaku told UEFA ahead of Wednesday’s game.

“We need to make as few mistakes as possible but also produce some good football because, sometimes, Barcelona leave you some space to play in. It will depend on the type of game and the coach’s game-plan, as well as the way that they play.

“Because they have their own system which does not change and does not adapt [to the opponent]. We must be very smart about the moments when we can go forward and the moments when we can’t.”

Lukaku played a huge role in ensuring the Reds made it to the quarter-final stage, by bagging a crucial brace in our last-16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

His double, along with Marcus Rashford’s injury-time penalty, meant United ran out 3-1 winners at the Parc de Princes and qualified for the last eight of Europe’s elite competition.

The Belgian knows he and his team-mates will draw strength from last month’s superb victory in France.

“Yes, it gives us some confidence, of course,” he said.

“It’s a really nice stadium [in Paris], with a hostile atmosphere for the visiting team. But we were ready, we knew that we would create some opportunities, which we did, and we scored them.

“Defensively, we had to put in huge effort, but that’s football. Football is not only about attacking, it’s also about defending and we did it well against a team full of big names and personalities.

“But we are Manchester United and we knew that, if there was one team that could have made the difference that night, it was us.”

For Rom, this is the first time he has made it to the last eight of the competition. The striker had actually never played in the tournament proper (he had appeared in the qualifiers) before joining United last summer, but he has netted an impressive seven goals in 15 Champions League matches in a red shirt.

The striker even scored on his debut in the competition against Basel in September 2017.

“It was about time, I told myself: ‘At last! At last!’. After all these goals, I think that I had already scored 150 career goals, but none of them had come in the Champions League. So I said: ‘I’ve finally scored in the Champions League! It was about time!’

“Because it’s the kind of competition that so many football players want to take part in. So, to score on my Champions League debut, was unforgettable.

“My mother was there, which made it even more special. When I heard the Champions League anthem, I didn’t know how to react. I didn’t know if I had to be serious or not… I started to laugh because I was saying:’At last! I’m finally playing in the Champions League.'

“I was very happy to be taking part in such a competition. It’s good to take part, but winning it is something else.”

'Play with more heart and b*****ks': Romelu Lukaku says Manchester United must do more in Barcelona to salvage Champions League tie

* Manchester United lost 1-0 to Barcelona in the first leg in the Champions League
* The two sides are facing off in the quarter-final stages of the competition
* Romelu Lukaku says United must 'play with more heart and b*****ks' next time
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side go to the Nou Camp for the second leg on April 16

The last word was mouthed rather than spoken, but Romelu Lukaku didn't leave any doubt about what he believes Manchester United need in the Nou Camp next week to salvage their Champions League hopes.

'Taking our chances and not conceding a goal - and play with more heart and b*****ks,' said the big Belgium striker as he left Old Trafford after a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday night.

The scorer of two opportunist goals at Parc des Princes last month when United staged a miraculous comeback to beat Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, Lukaku knows what is required in Spain now.

Romelu Lukaku wants Man United to show more 'heart and b*****ks' away against Barcelona . The Belgian ace was frustrated after United suffered a home defeat in the Champions League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will certainly have to be more bold after failing to register a single shot on goal in the first leg of this quarter-final.

'We just have to improve and do better than we did in Paris,' added Lukaku. 'We have to believe and have the desire and more quality than tonight. Then you never know what can happen in football.

'I don't think we played with the same arrogance and confidence on the ball.. The first 20 minutes of the second half we were there, but it's something we have to do for the whole 90 minutes over there.'

Are a Barca side that haven't lost at home in Europe for six years beatable? 'Definitely,' replied Lukaku. 'We have to go with the desire, be focused and when the chance comes we have to score.'

Team-mate Paul Pogba also warned it would be wrong to write off United after their heroics in Paris - a performance he believes will be lurking in the minds of Lionel Messi and co.

'Yes, for sure, because they will have seen what happened against PSG,' said Pogba. 'We still believe. We have to believe because in a Champions League game you play Barcelona away and we know we can hurt them.

'Of course, we saw a team we can beat. If you don't believe that then you just let them go through. They are Barcelona but we are Manchester United and we believe we can beat them.'

Pogba refused to answer when asked if he would like to face the Catalans more regularly as a Real Madrid player next season.

'I am not going to respond to this,' he said. 'I only talk about the match, not about other things.

'It's always a dream to play in the Champions League against a team like Barca. Tonight we lost but next week we have to win.'

Jika memang benar bakal hengkang, sangat disayangkan Lukaku belum sekalipun meraih gelar apapun bersama United hingga saat ini..

Lukaku Telah Memainkan Pertandingan Terakhir Bersama MU

Liputan6.com, Manchester - Romelu Lukaku menjalani musim yang kurang mengesankan bersama Manchester United (MU). Penyerang asal Belgia itu hanya mencetak 14 gol dari 41 penampilannya di semua kompetisi musim ini.

Spekuasi pun merebak tentang masa depan Lukaku bersama MU. Pemain berusia 25 tahun itu kabarnya akan dilepas di bursa transfer musim panas 2019.

Namun, menurut The Mirror, Rabu (2/5/2019), Lukaku sudah memainkan pertandingan terakhirnya bersama MU.
