Re: The Class Of 92
Giggs and Neville seal takeover of Salford FC subject to approval
Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes have sealed a deal to takeover Salford City, subject to FA approval. The trio - along with Phil Neville and Nicky Butt - have acquired the non-league outfit. The deal is expected to be completed in the summer. Sportsmail revealed last month that Neville and Giggs – along with other members of Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of ‘92’ – were looking to make a financial commitment to the club in a bid to boost the recruitment of talented young footballers in the area. 'I had my first trial for Manchester United in Salford at age 11 and I will never forget how important that was to me,' Gary Neville said. 'Salford City FC to me represents those early years, the commitment, hunger, enthusiasm, desire and spirit of football and I am very excited about this venture.' With Giggs still an active player at United, Phil Neville on David Moyes' coaching staff and brother Gary involved with England, it is not yet known precisely what role they plan to take in their new venture, but it is understood there will be no immediate change to the management structure at Salford City. Giggs added: 'Everyone knows how important Salford is to me, so this is an exciting acquisition that is right at the heart of what we all believe in. 'We want to engage the football community, use our football experience and knowledge to aspire and nurture young talent and being able to do that in Salford makes it even more exciting.' Neville tweeted: 'For clarity - No name change/ no ground change and management and committee as before!' Quote:
Scholes will definitely be involved at some stage after seemingly turning his back on the Moyes coaching regime at Old Trafford. Sources close to Neville and Giggs have not commented on suggestions their old team-mate will be the manager. The scale of the former players’ investment has also not been confirmed yet. One possibility is that they will not plough their own money in to Salford – which may well be renamed Salford ’92 – but use their profile and connections to attract vast sponsorship deals. Salford FC are currently playing in the Northern Premier League and are semi-professional. Giggs is set to wrap up his playing career at United at the end of this season but is already busying himself for when he's permanently off the pitch. The evergreen midfielder and Neville own a restaurant together, Cafe Football at Westfield Stratford City. The pair are also behind Hotel Football, an accommodation and leisure complex opposite Old Trafford, for which construction has begun. After performing at the highest level as players, both are now establishing themselves as coaches, with Giggs a player-coach at United and Neville an assistant to England boss Roy Hodgson in addition to his work as a Sky Sports pundit. Both have a noted interest in youth development and supporting their local area - Neville was born in Bury and lives in the vicinity while Giggs lives in Worsley to the west of Manchester. Earlier this month Neville and Giggs were joined by former team-mates Scholes and Nicky Butt as they watched Salford's game with Curzon Ashton. The ultimate goal would be to take Salford City FC, nicknamed the Ammies, into the Football League from the Evo-Stik First Division North - that would mean four promotions. Neville has previously revealed his concerns about the lack of English players rising through the ranks from non-League football into the top four tiers. Neville said: ‘The lower echelons of English football — once a vital breeding ground for players such as England internationals — are now withering away. The most alarming trend is in the lower reaches of the game, tiers two and three and non-League. ‘English football is neglecting the base of the pyramid. I think we have severed the cord between the game and its roots.’ Code:

Re: The Class Of 92
Ryan Giggs revives Class of '92 as Paul Scholes returns to join Nicky Butt and Phil Neville on Manchester United coaching staff
* Ryan Giggs called Paul Scholes and persuaded him to help coach the side * They will be joined by Phil Neville and Nicky Butt in the Man United dugout * Giggs wants the team to start playing the 'Manchester United' way again * Tom Cleverley is likely to get a game with Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata possibly dropped while Giggs is in charge No sooner had one regime slunk out of the back gates at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground than another was driving in through the front. Before 9am on Wednesday, Paul Scholes was back at his spiritual football home. The story of Scholes and United this season serves, in many ways, as a window into the uncertain, unhappy world of David Moyes. Moyes, sacked by United on Tuesday morning, thought he had offered Scholes a role last autumn and briefly the former Old Trafford midfielder worked with Nicky Butt and the Under 19s. Class of '92: (R-L) Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes are on United's coaching staff Soon, though, the relationship was in pieces, with Scholes heading back home to Oldham under the impression Moyes didn’t want him. On Wednesday morning, United’s interim manager Ryan Giggs had repaired the damage with a single phone call and his former team-mate was back amongst it at first-team training. United’s technical area will begin to resemble a screen grab from the Class of ’92 movie when Norwich arrive in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday. Giggs, for his part, knows that his role as United manager will be a cameo. He will not be considered for the post at this stage and is aware the incoming manager — set to be foreign — may not want him either. Between now and the end of the season, though, he will attempt to turn back time and it is hard to blame him. Before telling the United squad on Tuesday afternoon that he was bringing in Scholes and indeed Butt, Giggs sat the players down and delivered a simple message. ‘Ryan was very straightforward, as always,’ revealed an informed source. ‘He told the players it was time to go back to playing like Manchester United. Support act: Giggs and Phil Neville join Moyes in the dugout during a game against West Ham at Upton Park ‘He said it was time to get on the front foot, to press and to start dictating games. Like everyone else in the room, he is fed up worrying about the opposition all the time. ‘He wants this team to be ruthless, brave and unforgiving, just as it used to be.’ Giggs — for all his understandable denials — is known to have disagreed with Moyes’s tactics. On more than one occasion, he tried to persuade Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor to change his outlook. The style the 40-year-old will attempt to impose on Saturday at Old Trafford will owe much more to Ferguson — and indeed his first youth coach Eric Harrison — than it will the man who drove out through Carrington’s rear entrance after his dismissal. Giggs has told central midfielders including Tom Cleverley that they are not to sit alongside holding player Michael Carrick any more but to move into advanced positions and hurt the opposition when United have the ball. Cleverley, who has struggled more than most this season, is expected to start against Norwich, as is another academy product, Danny Welbeck, and Adnan Januzaj. Not surprisingly, Giggs will jettison Marouane Fellaini and, more controversially, is giving thought to leaving out Juan Mata. If United start without almost £60m of Moyes signings then it will represent a staggering indictment of the mistakes of the past eight months. Fellaini has been so poor that Moyes himself had started to drop him while Mata’s form has been lamentable since United signed him in January. Respected figures in the game have been critical of Mata’s inability to influence games going against United since he moved from Chelsea and there is no way Giggs will select players he believes don’t have the courage to receive possession in difficult areas. On Saturday, Old Trafford will witness a highly motivated United team. It could well be that Norwich suffer. United, with nothing of worth left to play for, will attack the game unshackled, motivated by a desire to show they are better off without Moyes. There remains a key group of senior players who believe Moyes has tried to turn public opinion against them. That is a dubious assertion. Nevertheless, motivated footballers can do remarkable things and it would be no surprise if United finish their miserable season with a flourish that will remind people of their true worth. The United board — with the Glazers in attendance — will look on with interest. As they continue their efforts to turn the heads of Louis van Gaal and Carlo Ancelotti towards Manchester these coming days, they are aware that a few Giggs victories will start a bandwagon of public opinion in favour of the Welshman’s appointment. Whatever happens, he will not get the job this time. It could, however, be fun watching him try and that particular commodity has been rather thin on the ground in Stretford this season. On the attack: Tom Cleverley will be encouraged to take up more forward positions in United's midfield Collateral damage: New signings Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini could lose their places under Giggs Code:

The Hotel Football project is the brainchild of new assistant manager Giggs and pundit Gary Neville but the Manchester Evening News today revealed Scholes, Butt and Phil Neville have also invested in the 133-bedroom scheme, due to open in Manchester in October. Located across the road from Manchester United’s stadium, it will house the Old Trafford Supporters Club and will feature a five-a-side pitch on the roof. Game on: Ryan Giggs keeps focused during impromptu football match with construction workers Midfield maestro: Paul Scholes intercepts the ball from builder during kick around in Manchester And the Class of ’92 decided to give it a early run out during a visit on Wednesday afternoon. High-vis yellow jackets were used as goalposts during the impromptu game. After the kick-about, Gary Neville told the Manchester Evening News: 'Ryan and I are looking forward to another new challenge, working with our former teammates again to create something special near to the stadium we all love.' Scholes added: 'When Gary and Ryan mentioned the idea of Hotel Football and Old Trafford Supporters Club I was really keen to get involved - the hotel is our chance to create something special for the fans. Phil Neville said: 'We want The Old Trafford Supporters Club to become a place United fans can think of as their own.' Chasing: Nicky Butt keeps his eye on the ball during lighthearted football match Giggs, 40, was appointed assistant to new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal on Monday; the same day he called time on his glittering 23-year playing career in which he won 38 trophies. The 40-year-old penned an emotional open letter to fans in which he thanked them for their continuous support. Re: The Class Of 92
Manchester United could retain Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville
• Manager Louis van Gaal to finalise coaches after World Cup • Manchester United keen that trio should be part of future Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil Neville could yet become part of Louis van Gaal’s staff at Manchester United, with the decision on their futures possibly not taken until after the World Cup when the Dutchman’s tenure as the Holland coach ends. Van Gaal, who is preparing for Holland’s opening match with the holders, Spain, on Friday in Salvador, is yet to decide if Scholes, Butt and Neville will be retained. While the 62-year-old has appointed Ryan Giggs as his No2, and brought in Frans Hoek to replace the discarded Chris Woods as the goalkeeping coach – as well as made Marcel Bout the opposition scout – Scholes, Butt and Neville are unsure if Van Gaal wants them to stay. So far, he is yet to contact any of the trio. Although Neville had been a member of David Moyes’s coaching team before continuing under Giggs when he took over as the interim manager, and Butt was one of the club’s academy staff, other than helping the latter on an ad hoc basis, Scholes was not involved at United after his retirement as a player two seasons ago before the Welshman asked him to assist for the last four matches of the season. Since Van Gaal’s appointment last month, Scholes and Neville have indicated they are uncertain about their futures at the club. Scholes, in particular, has stated he does not expect to be retained. Writing on his Paddy Power blog a fortnight ago he said: “I’ve not spoken to Edward Woodward [executive vice-chairman]. I came back for Ryan Giggs for the last few games of last season to try to help out but I’m not waiting for a phone call and don’t expect to be at United next season.” Scholes was also critical of Woodward, claiming that he has an “awful lot to prove” in the transfer window given last summer’s disastrous effort. But those comments will have no bearing on whether the 39-year-old is kept on, with the club keen that Scholes, Neville and Butt should be part of the future, and the final decision resting with Van Gaal. Butt and Scholes were instrumental in advising Giggs to give first-team debuts to James Wilson and Tom Lawrence, two stars of the under-21 side, in the final home match of the season, a 3-1 win over Hull City. So how Van Gaal, who has a proven track record of promoting youth at his previous four clubs, deals with Butt and Scholes may be instructive. Ashley Young, who had a particularly disappointing campaign, is insistent he and the squad can again challenge next year after United’s dismal title defence. “We want to kick on next season and get back to challenging on all fronts,” he said. Van Gaal’s first games in charge will come on United’s pre-season tour of America, where the club play Los Angeles Galaxy, Roma, Internazionale and Real Madrid. On wanting to impress the new manager as he assesses his squad, Rafael Da Silva said: “It will be fantastic to play against such historic teams during our tour. Everyone will want to play in those matches. Pre-season is so important. It means everything to your season – if it goes well and you have a good pre-season it can mean you are set up for the rest of the season with your fitness,” the right-back said. “It’s always good to have everyone together and to train hard and enjoy the trip as well. We always look forward to going to the States.” Code:
