Re: Who should replace David Moyes this summer?
Rafael Benitez a Better Fit Than Louis van Gaal for United, Says Dietmar Hamann
Now that Manchester United have officially moved on from David Moyes, fans and pundits alike are having a field day linking managers to the vacancy left in his wake, and at least one man believes the Glazers should seriously consider former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez. Speaking on The Colin Murray Show, via talkSPORT's Alex Varney, Dietmar Hamann, who played under the Spaniard during his time at Anfield, believes his former manager has all the necessary qualifications for the job: Quote:
Quote:
But according to Hamann, Van Gaal could possibly be a bad fit for the Mancunians. He called the Dutchman "not the most likeable guy" and "not easy to get on with." As it turns out, Hamann isn't the only one questioning whether Van Gaal would be the best fit for the Red Devils. Indy Kaila, host of the KRFM 97.3 Drive Time Football Show, has similar doubts: Quote:
The Spaniard isn't the most likeable personality himself and is far from a popular figure around Manchester, to put it kindly. Twitter came out in force to dismiss the chances of Benitez being at the helm of the club next season, with the Manchester Evening News' James Robson being one of the few to keep it civil: Quote:
The project has helped restore a lot of Benitez's credibility following his season at Inter and the odd circumstances surrounding his dismissal from Chelsea in favour of Jose Mourinho, so it would seem unlikely the Spaniard would leave the club after just one season. Van Gaal still seems like the most likely candidate for the Manchester job at this point in time. While it's fun to dream up scenarios in which other coaches, including long shots such as Benitez, could come in, it is important to differentiate between more realistic options and fantasies. Don't expect the rumour mill to stop churning out stories, though. Managing the Red Devils is still one of the most desirable jobs in all of world football, so plenty more managers will likely be linked with the post. Code:

Re: Who should replace David Moyes this summer?
Sir Alex Ferguson to block any Man United return for Roy Keane as Gary Neville or Ryan Giggs preferred for backroom role
Alex Ferguson will resist any effort to install Roy Keane as part of a new-look Manchester United managerial ticket. As Keane’s name swirls inside the vacuum created by the dismissal of David Moyes, Sportsmail understands that Ferguson, now an influential director of the club he managed for 27 years, won’t countenance any role for the former midfielder. Ferguson, who put the boot into Moyes last weekend, and will have a direct involvement in sourcing his successor, believes either Gary Neville or Ryan Giggs best represent the ‘old boy’ representation in the next backroom team, with a view to becoming managerial material. Not Keane! Sir Alex Ferguson will block any Manchester United return for Roy Keane Unlike Keane, neither has managed but the Scot has never healed his rift with his former captain after their 2005 spat. Also counting against Keane is the potentially explosive content of his new book, due out in October. While Keane is not in the frame to succeed Moyes, the possibility of a link-up with Louis van Gaal, the even-money favourite to become the next United manager, refuses to disperse. In the running: Louis van Gaal has been hotly-tipped to take over at Old Trafford The suggestion, floated in these pages on Wednesday, has hardened, particularly in Manchester where many believe Keane’s forceful personality is what is required to turn this season’s softies into steel. There is no direct relationship between Van Gaal and Keane, since the ex-Ireland midfielder de-railed Holland’s World Cup challenge in 2001. But Van Gaal will have a vacancy on his staff after the World Cup finals in Brazil as Danny Blind, one of his assistants, is staying on with the KNVB as number two to Guus Hiddink before becoming manager after the finals of Euro 2016. Patrick Kluivert, who felt Keane’s venom at Lansdowne Road 13 years ago, will continue to work under Van Gaal. Keane is under contract with the FAI for the duration of Republic of Ireland’s involvement in the Euro 2016 Championships. While loyal to Martin O’Neill, the lure of United may be impossible to resist for a player who gave over 12 years of selfless service to the club. Code:
