Gary Neville: Kasih Gelar Juara ke Liverpool Sekarang Juga, tapi...
Kris Fathoni W - detikSport

"Saya bilang, sih, kasih (gelar juara) liga ke Liverpool tapi kemudian memberi tanda bintang disertai sedikit catatan kecil, 'Liverpool menjuarai liga tapi...'," ucap Neville.

Neville Anggap Pemerintah 'Tutup Mata' soal Liga Inggris
CNN Indonesia

Gary Neville warns fans that Premier League matches could be played in empty stadiums for up to SIX months... as he urges need to 'get our heads around that'

* The Premier League is aiming for a June 8 resumption amid coronavirus crisis
* The football calendar has been decimated in recent times due to the pandemic
* Football is set to return behind closed doors for health and safety purposes
* Gary Neville has warned fans that stadiums could be empty for up to six months

Gary Neville has warned everyone involved within football that Premier League matches could be played without fans for up to six months.

The football calendar has been decimated in the last couple of months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and the Premier League have since been desperately thinking of ways to salvage the current season.

And now the Premier League are hoping to restart the campaign on June 8, allowing for suitable time for teams to return to training and regain match fitness, with the season concluding before the end of July.

The Premier League are hoping to return to action in June amid the coronavirus pandemic. Gary Neville claims Premier League games could be played without fans for up to six months

But former Manchester United right back Neville has urged players, managers, and fans to 'get their heads around' the fact that matches will be played behind closed doors for months for health and safety purposes.

Speaking about when the English top-flight does eventually resume, Neville told Sky Sports: 'It's going to be strange.

'It's an awful experience when you're used to playing in front of big crowds. The Premier League lives off the stadium experience.

'But we are going to be playing behind closed doors for months and months and months, probably until next year. We have to get our heads around that. There is no way fans will be in the stadiums in the next 3, 4, 5, 6 months.

'At this stage, players don't have any choice but to get their heads around it. At this moment in time, it would be accepted because of the situation we are in.'

Games are set to be played behind closed doors when the Premier League does restart. Jamie Redknapp believes playing behind closed doors might actually help some footballers

While many would argue that players would be hugely affected by playing in front of no atmosphere, Jamie Redknapp believes that for some it could actually help them.

'A lot of players might enjoy that feeling of not having fans, we call them five-a-side players,' Redknapp added.

'Monday to Friday, they are brilliant in training but as soon as they are in front of a crowd, for some reason it stifles them. For some players, they might feel there is a bit of freedom and release.

'It might help some clubs to a certain extent when things aren’t going well, 35,000 people screaming at them, they go under pressure. So it is going to be very interesting to see how that affects players as well.'

Saran Gary Neville agar Liga Inggris Musim Ini Bisa Tuntas
Lucas Aditya - detikSport

Sejak pertengahan Maret, Liga Inggris ditangguhkan. Pandemi virus Corona menjadi penyebabnya.

Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

'This is a moment to change the way we behave... distribute the wealth more': Gary Neville believes football needs to 'reset' after three months of coronavirus suspension as the Premier League prepares to restart this week

* Gary Neville says that football must change if it is to survive and prosper again
* He says lessons must be learned as the Premier League finally returns this week
* Neville urged football to help out struggling teams and support grassroots
* There has been no action for over three months due to coronavirus pandemic

Gary Neville believes English football must change if it is to survive and prosper once more.

With the Premier League just two days away from a resumption after three months at the mercy of the coronavirus, the former Manchester United captain says the game must learn vital lessons.

'This is a moment now,' Neville said. 'The moment to change the way we behave, the way we approach things, the way in which we deal with our fans, the way in which we deal with our other clubs, the way which the pyramid deals with each other and the way we deal with each other in society.

'It just feels like a huge moment. I would hope football uses this as a chance to reset, distribute the wealth more, give grassroots more, give the lower league clubs more.

'Make ourselves still the best league in the world but also do all the things that we know are right.'

Neville is a respected Sky Sports pundit and also part owner of League Two club Salford City. He fears some clubs will go bust if the Premier League's vast wealth isn't redistributed more evenly.

'I'm still disappointed that there isn't a rescue package in place from the Premier League or a statement to suggest that they are going to put it in place when things are back to normal again,' he added.

'I'm hearing horror stories at League One and League Two level and I don't think it's necessary with the money that's in the game.'

Gary Neville says that football must change if it is to survive and prosper again after the break

On the field Neville believes the main obstacle to Liverpool following their imminent title win with another one next year is a mental one.

'They mustn't think the first one is the holy grail,' he said. 'They should forget about it as soon as they have won it.

'In terms of back-to-back titles it's purely up here in your head. It's not a talent thing.

'My main criticism of Manchester City in the early years of them winning titles was that I always felt that after they had won it they all relaxed.

'You really have to go to the next level. You can't just repeat your performance because everybody has seen that. You have to go above it.

'Liverpool are capable of doing it but they will have a very angry Manchester City and Pep Guardiola chasing after them.'

Neville says the main obstacle for Liverpool after the coronavirus break is a mental one. Neville criticised Premier League champions Man City for their relaxed approach to winning

Asked for his Player of the Year for this season, Neville had an unexpected answer.

'I think Allison has made Liverpool win the League,' he said. 'Two or three years ago I said Liverpool would never win the league while their current goalkeeper was in position.

'Jurgen Klopp came for me but as soon as Allison arrived I saw what I once saw at Manchester United with Peter Schmeichel and then I saw it in that next spell where we had greatness with Edwin van der Sar.

'Once your goalkeeper is calm, authoritative and saves most shots on his goal it gives confidence to the rest of the team. The impact of that is absolutely incredible.'

'They need to invest again but do it properly': Gary Neville urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to splash out on new players after leading Manchester United back into the Champions League as he hails 'a big day' for the Old Trafford boss

* Man United returned to the Champions League following 2-0 win over Leicester
* But Gary Neville believes they won't compete without substantial investment
* United finished the Premier League season well adrift of Liverpool and Man City
* Former defender says lessons must be learned from Mourinho's recruitment
* Old Trafford club have been linked with £100m England forward Jadon Sancho

Gary Neville believes Manchester United 'need to invest properly' to prosper in the Champions League next season and close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side secured their return to Europe's elite competition with a 2-0 win at Leicester City on the season's final afternoon.

But they ultimately finished 33 points behind champions Liverpool and 15 behind City with former United defender Neville saying the squad still needs improvement.

However, he cautioned that United can't afford to repeat the poor recruitment made when Jose Mourinho led them back into the Champions League in 2018.

They have been linked with the Borussia Dortmund and England forward Jadon Sancho this summer though his £100m price tag may prove prohibitive.

But Neville said there is no doubt the squad needs greater depth and quality as the Premier League transfer window opens on Monday.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: 'I think it's a big day for Ole, it gives him some peace and demonstrates progress.

'They can play a different way now, they were very basic in his first six months.

Manchester United clinched a Champions League place following their 2-0 win over Leicester. Gary Neville believes United will have to invest wisely in the transfer market this summer. Neville believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be backed in the summer transfer window. United have been linked with Borussia Dortmund and England star Jadon Sancho

'With [Mason] Greenwood emerging and [Bruno] Fernandes, they look like they can win games in different ways.

'They need more players in their squad. The last time they finished in the top four was under Jose Mourinho and they spent £170million in that summer and didn't invest it wisely.

'They need to invest it again but do it properly this time to get nearer to Liverpool and Manchester City.

'They need to improve the first XI. That's not a detriment to the first XI from today.

'It's about making sure they get in players who want to play for the club. United have never really done that.

'Ole seems to have brought that back in the past 12 months and it's working, it's better.'

Neville's former United team-mate and fellow Sky pundit Roy Keane agreed that United need additional options in several areas.

Keane said: 'I think they need another centre-half. You want options all over the park. They probably need another striker.

'It's about getting quality players but the right characters. You talk about Fernandes, he comes across as a pro, a really nice person.'

United signed Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James last summer and further strengthened with the January purchase of Fernandes.

But United's recent performances in FA Cup games, when Solskjaer has attempted to rotate his team only to call for first choice players off the bench, have exposed the lack of depth in the squad.

Solskjaer's side now turn their attention to the UEFA Europa League, which the Norwegian manager says he intends to win, with their campaign picking up in the last-16 stage on August 5.

'I still think he's got a lot to prove': Gary Neville says Dean Henderson shouldn't expect to become first choice at Manchester United despite signing new £120k a week deal... as he backs David de Gea to keep No 1 spot

* Gary Neville believes Dean Henderson must be patient for United's No 1 jersey
* The Red Devils legend says David de Gea should be first choice at Old Trafford
* He says Henderson is not used to the experience of playing for a top team

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has warned goalkeeper Dean Henderson he could face a wait for the club's No 1 spot after returning from two impressive loans at Sheffield United.

The former right-back believes Henderson still has 'a lot to prove' and feels he lacks the experience of playing for a big team - calling for David de Gea to continue as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first choice.

The Spaniard has come under fire after a string of costly mistakes in between the sticks and some fans and pundits have called for him to be dropped.

Gary Neville believes keeper Dean Henderson still has 'a lot to prove' at Manchester United. Gary Neville believes David de Gea (R) will start as United's No 1 over Henderson next season

But Neville believes his place in the starting line-up shouldn't be in danger despite Henderson recently signing a new deal worth £120,000 per week, insisting that Solskjaer's faith in him last season will not change now.

'De Gea definitely starts as No.1 because there was a point where Ole could've dropped him towards the end of the season,' he told Sky Sports.

'However, he stuck with him at that point and we are only around four weeks later.'

He expects Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (R) to keep faith in De Gea despite some high-profile errors

Henderson impressed during his time with the Blades and kept 13 clean sheets last season, making 97 saves.

But Neville says he will face a different environment at United - being forced to spring into action after an opposition counter attack - and argued that being the club's No 1 is 'one of the most pressurised positions in English football'.

'I still think Henderson's got a lot to prove,' he added.

'Playing in goal for Sheffield United is a lot different than standing out there in that vacuous, empty, massive space which is the goal mouth at Old Trafford, when the team are up at the other end of the pitch most of the time attacking and then all of sudden you've got your first interaction with the game after 15 minutes and your concentration is tested like never before.

Neville says Henderson lacks the experience to start for a massive club like Manchester United. The 23-year-old was impressive for Sheffield United and has no plans to be second choice

'It's not a given that he's going to go into the team at Manchester United and be everything that everyone thinks he's going to be.

'He hasn't got the experience yet to handle Old Trafford or to show us that he can handle Old Trafford.

'I think the Manchester United goalkeeping position, I would argue, is one of the most pressurised positions in English football.'

It comes after Henderson admitted he expects to be first choice under Solskjaer and would not be happy to sit on the bench this season after winning so many admirers at Bramall Lane in 2019-20.

'Coming off a good season with momentum, it wouldn't be clever for me to sit around and not play football,' he said.

'I don't think that would help any parties at all.'

Neville: MU Akan Juara Lagi Usai Klopp dan Guardiola Pergi
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

Manchester - Eks pesepakbola top Gary Neville sepertinya akan bikin fans Manchester United emosi. Menurut dia, MU baru akan juara Liga Inggris lagi usai Juergen Klopp dan Pep Guardiola pergi.

MU sudah menjalani puasa gelar liga selama tujuh musim. Terakhir kali Setan Merah menjadi kampiun Premier League pada 2012/13, yang menandai musim pamungkas Sir Alex Ferguson sebelum pensiun.

Setelah ditinggal manajer legendarisnya, MU limbung.
