ESPN Soccernet
A STAR IN THE MAKING Owen made his debut for Liverpool against Wimbledon in May 1997, coming on as a substitute and scoring a goal, and was rewarded by being thrust straight into the first-team. ON THE RADAR Owen then rose to the world's attention with a breathtaking individual goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup - although England went on to lose on penalties. AWARD WINNER After bursting onto the scene at the 1998 World Cup, Owen won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award at the tender age of 18. GERMAN DEMOLITION He wrote himself into history when he scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 demolition of Germany in 2001, sealing his reputation as one of the world's top marksmen. TOP OF HIS GAME Liverpool won the treble of League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2001, and Owen was a key component of their success with a host of goals in all competitions. |

@ Galuh ..., amin amin amin ... :hail :hail
lanjutan nyang dari Soccernet nih ... ''THE OWEN CUP FINAL'' Indeed, two goals in the final minutes against Arsenal in the FA Cup sealed the trophy for Liverpool and etched Owen's name into Reds' folklore. REAL DISAPPOINTMENT He left his beloved Liverpool to try and make his name at Real Madrid, who signed him for a fee of £8 million on 13 August 2004. However, he lasted only a year, despite scoring 13 goals in 20 starts. £16MILLION MAN 20,000 fans turned up to see Owen - Newcastle's £16m record signing - paraded before them at St James's Park in August 2005. INJURY PRONE Owen badly twisted his left knee and was forced out of the 2006 World Cup. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Sweden and spent nearly a year on the sidelines. TOON GLOOM But it was a tough time at St James's. Failing to justify his £17m fee, Owen made just 58 league starts for the club in four years. Although he did score 26 goals. FOES REUNITED Having spent much of his United career trying to stop Michael Owen, Sir Alex Ferguson has now turned his attention to resurrecting his career by offering him a pay-as-you-play deal at Old Trafford. |
