Gary Neville wouldn't have an issue with Juan Mata and Ander Herrera leaving Manchester United along with two others in the summer: 'It wouldn't be the end of the world'

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to restructure his squad in the summer
* Juan Mata and Ander Herrera's contracts at Old Trafford expire at end of season
* And Gary Neville would not have an issue with them leaving - along with others

Gary Neville has identified the four players he would be okay with Manchester United letting go in the summer.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to bring in four or five new faces in the summer as he looks to make a mark on his squad, having made no changes in January.

The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho are thought to be on his radar.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to change his squad at Manchester United in the summer. Ander Herrera and Juan Mata's contracts with the club expire at the end of the season. Gary Neville says it would not be the end of the world if they were allowed to leave

But that means there will be players heading out of the door at Old Trafford — with huge question marks over the futures of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera.

The Spanish pair's contracts run out at the end of the season and there has been no fresh agreement.

And Neville admitted that he would not have an issue with Mata, Herrera, and two other players being allowed to go.

He told Sky Sports: 'There's a lot of players Ole has to make a decision on. Is it a big loss if Darmian leaves? I don't think it's the end of the world.

Antonio Valencia has struggled with injury and Neville would not mind if he left United

Darmian would also not be a big loss, according to former Manchester United defender Neville

'Is it a big loss if Antonio Valencia leaves? He's had problems with injuries, I think United need a new right back. Ashley Young, he's fine to stay there for another 12 months.

'I think Mata and Herrera are interesting ones in terms of how the club approach that.

'I think they will be players that are wanted by other clubs. For me it wouldn't be the end of the world if they both left.'

United take on Barcelona in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday evening.

'There’s nothing about this United team I like at all. They’re just awful': Furious Gary Neville tears Manchester United apart during TV commentary as Red Devils miss out on top four

* Scott McTominay gave the Red Devils the lead before Isaac Mbenza scored
* The result meant United will not play in the Champions League next season
* Gary Neville thinks the game on Sunday might be Alexis Sanchez's last at United

Gary Neville slated his former club Manchester United during their 1-1 draw against Huddersfield on Sunday.

Scott McTominay gave the Red Devils the lead before Isaac Mbenza scored a shock equaliser.

The result meant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will not play in the Champions League next season and Neville did not hold back as he laid into his former club.

Neville told Sky Sports: 'This is not a team. The more I watch, this it’s not a team.

'Do you know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the Tottenham team that Mauricio Pochettino picked up.

'When it had [Emmanuel] Adebayor, [Younes] Kaboul, [Vlad] Chiriches and [Etienne] Capoue in midfield.

'A group of players that looked like individuals, nothing there, no real spirit and he dismantled it piece by piece and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to dismantle this piece by piece.

'It would be nice if the club got an experienced sporting director and recruit team to help him.

Gary Neville slated Manchester United during their 1-1 draw against Huddersfield

'The shambles this week and the recruitment of that that’s appeared in the press doesn’t appear to have helped.'

Midway through the second half the United boss subbed on 19-year-old Tahith Chong for Alexis Sanchez and Neville thinks that might be the last we see of Sanchez at United.

Neville said: 'Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer has had enough, “I’ll just stick a kid on, I might as well”. Is that the last time we see Alexis Sanchez in a United shirt? Walking down the tunnel at Huddersfield?'

When Mbenza scored, Neville continued his rant as he watched his side limp to a draw.

The Sky Sports pundit said: 'Manchester United’s defence were always going to help them [Huddersfield] with avoiding that [being the only side in top flight history to not get into double figures of home goals].

'They’ve [United] been better [in the second half] but they’ve set a pretty low bar.

'This is Huddersfield Town who have struggled all season. Watch this Huddersfield team, they haven’t got the quality but I like watching them a lot more than watching the ones in the red shirts to be honest with you.

'At least you can identify with them. Nothing about this United team I like at all. They’re just awful. They’re a despondent group of people. Luke Shaw doesn’t know whether to go with his left foot or his right foot [for the goal].'

'Solskjaer is smiling at them they’re that bad. Manchester United’s away support will never stop singing but this group of players have even drained the energy out of them.'

The camera panned to United's chief executive and Neville said: 'He’s [Ed Woodward] had several of them [transfer windows] already so maybe it will be better this time.'

Neville's point continued: 'Ordinarily at this point in time you would say this is a real test for these Manchester United players, we will find out about them, but we already know.

'It’s just how they will do in this 25 minutes. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got the job and they’ve just switched off haven’t they? They’ve just switched off simple as that. There can be no other explanation.'

Neville: MU Berisi Kumpulan Orang Putus Asa
Redzi Arya Pratama - detikSport

'It's a shambles... cleanse the club from top to bottom': Gary Neville launches another furious tirade against how Manchester United is run with Ed Woodward and Rio Ferdinand in the firing line

* Gary Neville launched into a furious tirade against Manchester United
* Neville is angry former players are being considered for sporting director role
* Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher have both been linked with a return to United
* Neville heavily criticised United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward

Gary Neville has launched another furious rant against his former club Manchester United, claiming that it is a 'shambles' that former players can be considered for the sporting director role.

Rio Ferdinand, who enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at United, is being considered for the role following talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

United are aiming to appoint an individual to guide transfer strategy and oversee negotiations while being in tune with the manager, with Ferdinand held in high regard by Woodward.

Another former United player, Darren Fletcher, has also been mentioned as a possible appointment.

Neville didn't mention any players individually but made it clear that he feels that the club shouldn't be looking to appoint a former player in such an important role.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: 'How can it be that four players that have never been businessmen, never been sporting directors, are put forward for this difficult role at the biggest club in the world? It's a shambles.'

Neville launched into a lengthy rant about United and hit out at Woodward, who he suggested has 'had his chance' at running the club.

Gary Neville is unhappy ex-Man United players are being linked with the sporting director role. Former United defender Rio Ferdinand is being considered for the position. Neville was heavily critical of United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward. Darren Fletcher is another United player who has been linked with a return to the club

He said: 'The first thing they have to do is cleanse the dressing room. Cleanse the club. That's from the top to the bottom. They need someone to run the football side of the club.

'I think they should shift the people who are in charge of the club at this moment in time back into the business side of the club, back down to London.

'I think they should put a new football department in charge who are the best in class - not have played at the club, football operators, and underneath that then put the technical people, then the manager will find it a lot easier.

'Ed Woodward has had seven years now at this, so I think he's had his chance at running the football side of the club.'

Neville went on to state that there is a cultural problem at United and criticised the fact that the club have many different individuals, who were appointed under various regimes, making important decisions.

Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, United have had four permanent managers in David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The club have struggled to bring in their key transfer targets recently and haven't won the Premier League title since Ferguson's departure. Neville suggested that there needs to be more clarity over who is making the key decisions at United.

Neville said: 'There is a cultural problem at the football club. Who's signing the players this summer? Every other football club in the country I can tell you who's in charge of signings, I haven't got a clue at Manchester United.

'They've still got Sir Alex's chief scout, they've got Louis Van Gaal's scout there, they've still got David Moyes' chief football operator. You've got a head coach who has an opinion, you've got a CEO who has an opinion, who's in charge? who has the final say?'.

United have missed out on Champions League qualification again this season and are in sixth place in the Premier League going into the final day of the campaign.

Neville has been heavily critical of United in recent months and following the defeat to Everton last month stated that six players - Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba and David De Gea - have all let the club down of late.

There will be much focus on the transfer window at United this summer, with the club trying to bolster the quality of a squad that has again under-performed.

In addition, there could be some key departures from the club, with striker Romelu Lukaku amongst those who could depart. United conclude their campaign on Sunday with a home game against Cardiff City.

'They don’t need a new centre forward: Gary Neville says Man United should splash out on midfielders and full backs this summer as he backs Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to lead the line if Romelu Lukaku leaves

* Gary Neville has ranked striker Marcus Rashford as England's best youngster
* The Sky Sports pundit believes the 21-year-old can lead the line for United
* Neville also believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to restructure this summer

Marcus Rashford is capable of carrying the Manchester United scoring burden next season, according to Gary Neville.

The 21-year-old Rashford has endured a tough season with Manchester United, but has started 25 times in the Premier League after gaining the trust of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to lead the line.

United look set to lose Romelu Lukaku in the summer, while Alexis Sanchez also appears to be on his way out.

That has prompted suggestions that the club could be in the market for a new forward. But Neville believes Rashford and team-mate Anthony Martial are more than capable of filling any void left by Belgium international Lukaku.

Gary Neville has backed Marcus Rashford to step up for Manchester United next season. Neville doesn't believe that United need another striker should Romelu Lukaku leave the club

Asked which England youngster he felt had the most potential at this moment, he immediately responded: 'Rashford. Because I love him.

'United, obviously with Lukaku playing up front, there’s been talk of them needing a new centre forward.

'Alexis [Sanchez] hasn’t done particularly well but they don’t need a new centre-forward if Martial and Rashford can step up. Rashford in particular.'

While Lukaku and Sanchez could both be leaving Old Trafford, there is also possible movement in midfield and in defence.

And Neville believes that Solskjaer has a big summer of recruitment ahead of him.

'United need to strengthen at the back with full backs and centre backs, they need another midfield player,' added the former full back.

'Reports this morning are that (Ander) Herrera is going to PSG, so they’ll need to strengthen in midfield just to replace what’s there.'

Default Re: Gary Neville

NEVILLE: HOMEGROWN CORE CRITICAL TO UNITED

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville believes it is crucial that the club retains a homegrown core within its first team.

The defender was part of the famous Class of '92 that emerged through the ranks together during Sir Alex Ferguson's reign and went on to celebrate unprecedented glory at home and abroad.

Ahead of playing under Sir Alex again in the Treble Reunion game against Bayern Munich on Sunday, the ex-England international spoke to us about his pride in seeing youngsters following the same path he trod back in the early 1990s.

“It’s critical for United that we continue to do this,” he said. “One of the great things over the last few years, which have been difficult years at the club, is you still see a lot of homegrown representation out on the pitch.

”When I was in Paris [for the Champions League win over PSG], you think about Mason Greenwood, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira – players like that. Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard obviously weren’t playing that day but Marcus Rashford did. All these players have played this season and it is brilliant to see, particularly with the results that have been happening.

“Credit still goes to Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal as well, as they gave some of these players opportunities. Even in difficult times, the club continues to try to give opportunities to young players and promote players from the Academy. That isn’t always the case at other clubs.”

Unlike most of his colleagues, Neville admits the enormity of the achievement back in 1999 quickly sank in for him as he relishes the chance to meet up with his former colleagues at the weekend.

“It hit me straight away,” he recalled. “I think I knew from growing up as a fan, how much the European Cup and Champions League meant to the club in terms of its history. Going from 1958 and Matt Busby rebuilding his team up to 1968, you just can’t get away from that in terms of what is the legend of Manchester United.

”For us, to actually work for four or five years within the same group of players to keep falling short, in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and finally getting there in 1999, it was an incredible moment and the Treble is unprecedented to this day. The last couple of minutes and coming back through Deansgate on the open-top bus will live in our memories forever.

“I’ve played in a couple of these games over the last five or six years,” he added. “So, when you’re with the lads in the dressing room an hour before the game, it’s really special. I feels like you’re preparing for a game again, which is a bit of a thing that you miss when you’re obviously retired.

”Hopefully, we’ll have a drink and something to eat after the game together as well. But, most of all, we’ll raise money for the Foundation and give the fans a great day so everyone enjoys it.“

'I'm not in a rush': Gary Neville prepared to wait years for Manchester United to be successful again as long as club has the right principles

* Gary Neville is prepared to wait for Manchester United to be successful again
* Neville will be patient as long as the club ensure they have the right principles
* The 44-year-old is enthused by United wanting to bring in young British talent
* Neville wants United to 'play good football' and 'bring the right players through'

Gary Neville is willing to wait years for Manchester United's rebirth - as long as the club's priorities are true.

The former defender is enthused by United's move back towards landing young, British talent and would accept barren seasons if they are blooded properly.

Swansea City's Daniel James and Sean Longstaff at Newcastle United are two they want to sign this summer and Neville claimed he is no hurry to demand trophies under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

'I can wait two, three, four, five years for the club to be successful - it isn't a problem for me,' Neville said.

'As long as the principles are right: play good football, bring the right players through, try and win as best you can, don't give in, good attitude.

'I lived through 20 years as a fan growing up when the club wasn't successful. I'm not in a rush, I just want to see the right things happen and with Ole here as a coach there's an opportunity for that to happen.

Gary Neville is willing to wait years for Manchester United to be successful again. Neville believes United's principles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are befitting of the club

United are also looking to sign 21-year-old midfielder Sean Longstaff from Newcastle

'I don't have to see them be successful in the next 10 minutes. It's not a bad thing to have five or six years of difficulties. And even then, the club has won three or four trophies so it's not all bad. It's never as bad as people think it is or even maybe sometimes even I say it is.

'Sometimes when you get a slap in the face like the club's having at the moment it means that you come back stronger.'

Neville warned that United will need to shell out tens of millions in order to attract top players, suggesting the rebuild could take a number of transfer windows.

The 44-year-old, speaking after United had raised £1.5million for the club's foundation at the 1999 Treble reunion, branded Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka 'a massive talent,' as United go hunting for a right back.

'It would seem to me that the club would like to go back down that route (signing youngsters),' Neville added.

Neville praised Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka as United look for a new right-back

Neville stressed that if United miss out on Matthijs De Ligt it won't be due to their current plight

'The price is always going to be big because clubs are wise now to it, you can't pinch players off clubs for £5m or £6m.

'They are wise to it and have the Premier League funding of more than £100m, so they don't need to panic, they don't need an extra £5m or £10m. They want £50m or £60m.

'Leicester will be the same for (Ben) Chilwell and (Harry) Maguire or (James) Maddison. Wan-Bissaka is a massive talent.'

United sources are insistent that Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt is on his way to Barcelona rather than Old Trafford. Neville is adamant that is not a result of United's current plight.

'The club has lost players when it's successful to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich,' he said. 'Lost (Arjen) Robben to Chelsea in mid 2000s, we lost (Samir) Nasri to City. Don't think that when Sir Alex Ferguson was here it didn't happen.

'Don't think that if United lose players to Barcelona now that this is the first time it's ever happened. It's not because of the current plight, or the coach, or the current players it just happens sometimes. It happened during successful times too.'

'The idea of a player being overweight for me is unforgivable': Manchester United legend Gary Neville blasts Romelu Lukaku's conduct as rebel striker seals move to Inter Milan

* Ex-Man United full back Gary Neville has criticised Romelu Lukaku's conduct
* The striker completed an acrimonious switch to Inter Milan on deadline day
* 'There's no excuse for not being fit. We were never overweight', Neville said

Gary Neville has blasted Romelu Lukaku for his lack of professionalism surrounding his weight, calling it 'unforgivable' to be overweight.

Lukaku tumbled out of the Manchester United exit door with Inter Milan completing a £72million deal, including £12m in bonuses, for the forward on deadline day for English clubs.

The Belgium striker had trained away from Old Trafford this week after going AWOL by practising with his former club Anderlecht and their Under 18s on Monday and Tuesday.

Romelu Lukaku completed a move to Inter Milan but has been criticised about his weight. Former Man United full back Gary Neville launched a scathing attack over Lukaku's conduct

He flew to Italy on Wednesday with his agent Federico Pastorello ahead of undergoing a medical on Thursday before signing a five-year deal with Inter until June 30, 2024.

The 26-year-old had not played in any part of United's pre-season due to a mysterious ankle injury but arrived for the start of it overweight according to Neville, much to his disdain, who tweeted that he was over 100kg.

'I think he is a really good player – he'll score a lot of goals and do well at Inter Milan,' the United legend told Sportsmail at the celebration of TalkTalk's five-year shirt sponsorship deal with League Two outfit Salford City – a club in which he owns a 10 per cent share.

'But the idea of a player being overweight for me is unforgivable. You can play badly, miss shots on goal, hit a bad cross or give goals away as they're mistakes in football but you can't be overweight.

'You can't go out on a Friday night and drink alcohol – there are things that you're in control of. These two lads [Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, fellow United greats who also own 10 per cent of Salford] played until they were 38 and 40 and played for 25 years at the top winning numerous titles.

'There's no excuse for not being fit. We were never overweight, not fit or not prepared. How can you be overweight!?'

Lukaku's departure leaves a void in the goalscoring department for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

With the transfer deadline shut, the Red Devils will have to rely heavily on just Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for goals while 17-year-old Mason Greenwood will embark on his first full season as a first-team member.

And while Lukaku's output will be hard to replace, having scored 27 times in his first campaign at United followed by 15 last term, Neville believes Solskjaer has done the right thing as he looks to overhaul the culture at the club.

'There's no excuse [on Lukaku's weight]. My view on Romelu Lukaku is that if Manchester United are trying to set a new tone and culture through the club, which Ole is trying to do, any lack of professionalism has got to be stamped upon,' he added.

'He didn't want to be here anyway. Romelu Lukaku has admitted himself that he was overweight so he has removed all doubt.'

Default Re: Gary Neville

'They'll probably win the league before Liverpool': Gary Neville backs Manchester United to lift Premier League again before bitter rivals

* Liverpool are still waiting to end their 29-year drought for the league title
* Manchester United have not been champions since Sir Alex Ferguson retired
* Gary Neville believes his former side are not too far behind their rivals

Gary Neville believes Manchester United will lift the Premier League again before Liverpool win their first title.

Despite finishing 31 points behind the European champions last season, Neville does not think his former side are that far away from being kings of England again.

'I can guarantee you as clear as day, Manchester United will win again. They'll probably win the league before Liverpool, in my opinion', he said on Sky Bet's Big Debate.

'And that's not being disrespectful, they'll probably win the league before Liverpool.'

When asked whether he was bothered by the improvement of others, Neville said: 'It genuinely does not concern me because it can be corrected by a little bit of money on the stadium and good decisions in the boardroom and good decisions in the recruitment department.

'What I'm saying is, Liverpool, City, Tottenham , all these clubs have had poor recruitment policies over the last 25 or 30 years at times.

'So United are going through one at the moment.

'Eventually they will stumble upon the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people, they'll get a great manager – hopefully that's Ole – and they'll start to win again. That's going to happen.'

Liverpool are still waiting to end their 29-year drought after finishing second last year, while United have not lifted the trophy since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.
