Borussia Dortmund ready to admit defeat and sell Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United for £26m

Borussia Dortmund could finally be ready to do business and allow Henrikh Mkhitaryan to leave for Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to add the midfielder this summer as United look for more attacking invention.

But club chiefs had been left exasperated at Dortmund digging heir heels in during negotiations and privately admitted they seemed to be fighting a losing battle.

That has changed over the last few days, however, after Mkhitaryan's agent Mino Raiola held talks with the Bundesliga side last week in a bid to force a move.

The fee is believed to be around £26million, with the Armenian only having one year left on his current deal and Dortmund seemingly now ready to cash in.

Chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed this week will be make-or-break as to where Mkhitaryan plies his trade.

'We will assess his situation this week,' he told Kicker. 'We need to discuss it. It is a difficult decision.'

Dortmund are back for pre-season training next Monday, with Mourinho expected to begin life as United boss on the Wednesday.

Mourinho had hoped to have a smattering of new signings sealed before the tour of China later next month.

Eric Bailly's £30million switch from Villarreal has already gone through, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is thought to be ready to complete a free transfer.

Ibrahimovic's contract is in its final days at Paris Saint-Germain after the striker decided to end his time in France.

Jose Mourinho's quest to land Henrikh Mkhitaryan has moved a step closer after Borussia Dortmund admitted to receiving a 'much improved' offer for their midfield playmaker.

The fee is believed to be around £26million, with the Armenian only having one year left on his current deal and Dortmund seemingly now ready to cash in.

And speaking about their No 10, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted on Tuesday that the situation is changing.

'The situation is now different,' he told Sport Bild. 'Manchester have made a much improved offer. In situations like this there are always a lot of different things to consider and in the end at one point we have to make a decision.

'And as we are back in training on Monday we will decide at the weekend. I have contacted the relevant people and we will weigh things up at the weekend. And then the board will make the decision, definitely at the weekend.'
