[11/12] UEFA Europa League Matches
Shamrock Rovers to face Juventus
SOccernet - July 22, 2010 Shamrock Rovers landed themselves a Europa League third qualifying round tie against Serie A giants Juventus after winning in Israel. The Irish side had drawn the home leg of their tie against Bnei Yehuda 1-1 but a goal from Thomas Stewart was enough to see them through to set up the daunting task of meeting Juve. Portadown, however, are out after a 1-1 draw at Qarabag saw them eliminated 3-2 on aggregate. Kevin Braniff had put them ahead but an equaliser from Afran Ismayilov put the Azerbaijan side through. Northern Ireland's Cliftonville also advanced thanks to a goalless draw in Croatia against Cibalia, Ciaran Caldwell's first-leg goal proving the difference across the two legs. They will now meet CSKA Sofia. Bangor City of Wales scored twice at the end of their tie against Honka of Finland to sneak into the next round. Chris Jones' injury-time strike gave them a 3-2 aggregate win over Honka, who had knocked them out at this stage of last season's competition. Sampo Koskinen had put the visitors 1-0 ahead on the night, and 2-1 up on aggregate, before David Morley levelled matters five minutes from time and Jones struck to send them through to a meeting with Maritimo. Garra Dembele scored both goals as Levski Sofia beat Dundalk 2-0 to complete an 8-0 whitewash. Dembele scored in the fourth and 33rd minutes at Oriel Park. Motherwell eased through to the third qualifying round of the Europa League after a 1-0 victory over Breidablik at the Kopavogsvollur stadium gave them a 2-0 win on aggregate. Striker Jamie Murphy grabbed the crucial goal for the visitors three minutes from the break when he latched on to a long Stephen Craigan free-kick to slide the ball past home keeper Ingvar Thor Kale from around 12 yards.

Re: [10/11] UEFA League
Europa League: Liverpool and Juventus cruise
Soccernet - July 29, 2010 David Ngog struck twice as Roy Hodgson began his reign as Liverpool manager with a comfortable 2-0 victory from a potentially tricky Europa League test. Ngog found the net in each half as an under-strength Liverpool side overcame FK Rabotnicki with little alarm in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie in Macedonia. With 17 days still to go before their Premier League opener, Liverpool were without 10 of their World Cup players but their blend of youth and experience coped well in a game of little drama. Hodgson's decision to leave behind the likes of Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole was fully vindicated. Shamrock Rovers' hopes of causing a huge upset are all but over after a double from Amauri gave Juventus a 2-0 victory in the first leg at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin. Shamrock fell behind in just the third minute as the Brazilian striker slotted home after good build up by the Italian giants. But the hosts put in a gutsy effort to stay in the game and occasionally threaten an equaliser, before Amauri's 75th minute header rounded off an ultimately comfortable success for the visitors. Jamie Murphy broke Motherwell's European goalscoring record as manager Craig Brown got the away goal he craved in Norway against Aalesund, but an injury-time penalty left the game tied at 1-1. Murphy netted his sixth Europa League goal to overtake previous record holder Stevie Kirk and give Motherwell the edge. However, Alexander Mathisen's last-gasp penalty denied Motherwell what would have been their greatest European result and kept the tie finely balanced ahead of next Thursday's return leg at Fir Park. Hibernian endured a disappointing return to European football as a resounding 3-0 defeat in Slovenia against Maribor left them facing a mountainous task to reach the next round. A double from Josip Ilicic and a curling effort from Marcos Tavares put Hibs three goals behind before the hour mark and the score only threatened to get worse despite a tactical switch from John Hughes. Bangor crumbled to a humiliating 8-2 defeat aganist Maritimo. The Welsh club were already trailing to goals from Tcho, who scored after 33 minutes, and Danilo, who doubled the lead five minutes later, when captain Jamie Brewerton was sent off just before half-time. He was ordered off after a heavy challenge on Abdelmalek Cherrad. The islanders took full advantage of their extra man and added second-half goals from Baba Diawara, who netted after 51 and 78 minutes, Danilo (75), Tcho (79) and substitutes Kanu (80) and Fidelis (90). Nicky Ward (73) and Eddie Jebb (90) scored the consolations for Bangor, who scored the final goal and will face the same opponents next Thursday at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

Re: [10/11] Europa League
Round-Up Kualifikasi Liga Europa: Galatasaray, Stuttgart & Sporting Lolos
-goal.com- Tim-tim kuat akhirnya melaju ke babak 'play-off'. Pasalnya, mereka menang agregat 2-1 setelah paga laga pertama unggul 2-0. Bermain di kandang lawan, AZ memainkan strategi bertahan. Mereka ingin mengamankan keunggulan di laga pertama. Akibatnya, Goteborg kesulitan mencetak gol. Dia mencetak gol pada injury time. Re: [10/11] Europa League
drawing play off round
Villa eye revenge, Reds head to Turkey Soccernet - August 6, 2010 Aston Villa have the chance to banish their demons as they face Rapid Vienna again, following their defeat to the Austrian side in the Europa League last season. Rapid Vienna knocked them out of the competition on the away-goals rule, despite Villa winning the second leg 2-1 and Martin O'Neill's men will be well motivated to get a result. Elsewhere, Liverpool face a tough trip to Turkey to face Trabzonspor, who had a glittering history of success in the 1970s and early 80s. Manchester City have drawn Romanian side FC Timisoara, who have only been established since 2002 and Celtic, following their exit from the Champions League, face Dutch team FC Utrecht. Motherwell have drawn Eric Djemba-Djemba's Danish side Odense, while Dundee United will take on Greek team AEK Athens, who finished 4th in Greece last season. Quote:
