![]() 14/09/2014 - ManUtd.com, B Hibbs, G Thompson, T Oscroft United debutants: How did they fare? Four Reds made their Old Trafford debuts on Sunday against QPR. Here, we run the rule over their performances and impact on the game… Angel Di Maria | Home debut | Minutes played: 83 It was a sparkling first outing at Old Trafford from the agile Argentinian. His skill, balance and attacking intent were a joy to watch as he inspired United's 4-0 victory over QPR. A goal and an assist (he was also involved in*United's other two strikes)*on your home debut is bound to attract headlines, but more than that it was his range of passing, vision, creativity and boundless energy in attack that constantly had fans out of their seats. Best of all, this is clearly no flash in the pan – there’s more to come. We’re in for a treat. His standing ovation was fully deserved and so was his Man of the Match award. Daley Blind | United debut | Minutes played: 90 While Di Maria will rightly take the attention, the job done by debutant Daley Blind in the demolition of QPR cannot be underestimated. Starting his first match at Old Trafford in front of a back four completely new to him, the Dutchman, who went close to scoring late on,*slotted into the United side with total ease; in the opening ten minutes he played more passes than anyone else on the field. Calm, intelligent and able to pick a pass, he already looks set to be a vital cog in this exciting, new-look United side. Marcos Rojo | United debut | Minutes played: 90 It seems like an age since the Argentinian put pen to paper with United, but while the 24-year-old will have tougher tests than this, he looked comfortable in his new surroundings. Rojo’s versatility was a USP that appealed to Louis van Gaal, and he slotted in at left-back for his debut as the manager opted for a back four. His guiding of the relatively inexperienced Tyler Blackett throughout was nice to see. A quietly effective first appearance. Radamel Falcao | United debut | Minutes played: 23 Fans spent much of the match singing the terrace anthem borrowed from Atletico Madrid’s supporters as anticipation grew about seeing one of the world's most renowned finishers in action in a United shirt. When he finally entered the fray on 67 minutes, the score was already 4-0. The hotshot Colombian might have hoped to be involved when the pace and pressing was high, but he had one half-chance when Blind’s long-range effort was parried by Rob Green. He was sharp to it, but saw his shot saved. Still, El Tigre is clearly quick to pounce. |

![]() 15/09/2014 - ManUtd.com, Mark Froggatt Herrera lauds United debutants in QPR win Ander Herrera*has praised the impact of Manchester United's debutants during Sunday's 4-0 win over QPR, paying particular attention to*Angel Di Maria*following his spectacular maiden outing at Old Trafford. Di Maria scored the opening goal with a slightly fortuitous free-kick, before having a hand in further strikes for Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata*as the Reds cruised to a comfortable first Barclays Premier League victory of the season. Fellow summer signings Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao also took their first-team bows and Herrera was suitably impressed by their performances. Speaking to*MUTV after the final whistle, the Spaniard explained why the future is bright for United. “Angel is one of the best players in the world. Manchester United always has to have top players and he is one of the best. “We have Radamel Falcao as well, with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw. I think we have a new team but we are improving, we are working hard and we are looking forward to this season.” Quizzed specifically on the performances of Rojo and Blind, Herrera said: “I think they played very good football, they had some very good passes and always kept the ball. "Marcos is very, very aggressive and this is important for the team. Blind never loses the ball and we are happy, but of course we have to improve still.” Herrera was also delighted to score his first goal for United with a low strike in the 36th minute, a moment he admits he will treasure. However, the former Athletic Club star insists the team's victory is more important than his personal moment of glory. “I am happy, of course," Ander explained. "It is important to make a goal at Old Trafford, one of the best stadiums in the world. I am happy for my goal but I am happier because we won. “I wish it can be our first step and I am sure is it. The next games are very important because we want to*be as soon as possible at the top of the league.”* |

![]() 14/09/2014 - ManUtd.com, Ben Hibbs Mata hails debutant Di Maria display Juan Mata was delighted to cap off Manchester United's impressive 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford on Sunday – and he insisted that Angel Di Maria's opening strike and first goal for the Reds was straight off the training ground. Man of the Match Di Maria kicked off proceedings on 24 minutes with a curling free-kick which evaded everyone and dropped in at the far post. He played a part in the other three goals and directly set up Mata for the fourth. Translating for his new team-mate, Mata told Sky Sports: "He said that he is very happy with his debut and to score his first goal at home. He had been practising [this] during the week and he did it in training so it's not a surprise for me." Most importantly, it's a first win of the season for the Reds. “I think we played much, much better than the first games," added the Spaniard. "From the first minute until the last we tried to score more and more and I think that is what we have to do with the players we have. We have to play well, score goals and be compact in defence. "It is very important for us [to win]. Hopefully it is the first step in a run of good results. It’s an important three points and now we will be training hard in the week and hopefully we will get another win next weekend. "For me, I have to get into the box. I can help my team by scoring goals and it is my second of the season so I am happy with that." |

17/09/2014 14:53 - ManUtd.com, Ben Hibbs Rojo and Shaw have bright futures Manchester United's new attacking players are taking the headlines - but Jonny Evans says the additions of defenders Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw are vital too. Radamel Falcao's dramatic deadline day loan move from AS Monaco and Angel Di Maria's British record transfer from Real Madrid elicited plenty of excitement among United's support, and that was enhanced during Sunday's convincing 4-0 win over QPR. But Rojo's quietly impressive debut and the promise shown by Luke Shaw in pre-season and in training makes Evans believe the strengthening of the Reds' squad as a whole is equally as significant as the big-name captures. Evans told United Review: "Looking at our new defenders, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, I've been really impressed. "I watched Marcos at the World Cup and thought he was excellent for Argentina whether he played at left-back or left wing-back, and he can play centre-back too.*I had the chance to work with Luke in pre-season and there is no doubt he is going to be the best left-back in the world." Ahead of the defence, the protection provided by another debutant, Daley Blind, was a welcome addition on Sunday, while fellow summer signing Ander Herrera continues to prove his worth as an all-rounder in the centre of the park. "I watched Daley in the World Cup," continued Evans, "and he was very impressive. The manager knows him well and he's come through the Ajax youth system, which is something the manager had a lot of input into so he'll understand the manager's way of playing really well. Ander has settled in brilliantly. He's a great lad and the way he played in pre-season showed just what a good player he's going to be." |

![]() 21/09/2014 - ManUtd.com, Ryan Grant Falcao's first start for United After Old Trafford was treated to a first glimpse of several new signings during the 4-0 win over QPR, all eyes were on one man when Manchester United's game at Leicester City kicked off. When the team news broke via @ManUtd on Twitter one hour before kick-off, the inclusion of Radamel Falcao in the starting 11 received a positive reaction as the Colombian striker prepared to make his first start in a red shirt. For our match-day feature, we paid close attention to Falcao's progress throughout the clash at the King Power Stadium, and it wasn't long before he made his mark... First half 08' – Falcao tracks back to dispossess former United man Danny Drinkwater and sets the Reds on the attack. 13' – *The striker goes past Ritchie De Laet and breaks away down the left, before lofting a perfectly-weighted ball to the far post, where Robin van Persie was waiting to head United into the lead. A first assist for Falcao! 18' – Falcao drops deep to find the ball and shows some good touches, again linking up well with new strike partner van Persie with Wayne Rooney playing behind them. 22' – The travelling contingent of Reds fans urge the new signing on by singing his name, and the striker responds by chasing down the Leicester defence.* 26' – Falcao wins a corner for United and is picked out by Angel Di Maria at the resulting set piece, but his shot is blocked and cleared to safety. 35' – Slick passing in the middle of the park enables United to retain possession, but Di Maria’s ball over the top is too heavy for Falcao. 42' – The Colombian again finds space on the left, before cutting inside and spraying the ball to Rooney, who sets United away. 44' – Plays a clever ball around the corner for Di Maria, after showing good aerial presence. Moments later, the winger’s cross is inches from finding Falcao for what looked a certain goal. Second half 49' – Falcao produces an excellent touch before smashing a shot off the crossbar from a tight angle, after a diagonal ball from Rooney. Agonisingly close to opening his account for the Reds! 66' – Following a quieter period, the Colombian looks to have a clean run at the Foxes defence, before slipping in the centre circle. 72' – Falcao's first start comes to an end as he's replaced by Adnan Januzaj with the scores level at 3-3. Van Gaal later praises the striker's performance and says he came off because his fitness still needs to be built up. |
