Tottenham complete signing of DeAndre Yedlin on four-year deal... but USA defender will remain with Seattle until next season

* Tottenham sign USA international DeAndre Yedlin on four-year deal
* Defender will remain with Seattle Sounders and join Spurs at start of 2015/16 season
* Yedlin looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League

Tottenham have completed the signing of USA international DeAndre Yedlin on a four-year deal.

The 21-year-old right back will remain with Seattle Sounders before joining Mauricio Pochettino's side for the 2015/16 season campaign.

Speaking to the club's official website, Yedlin said: 'I’m very excited to come to the Premier League and challenge myself against some of the best players in the world.'

Done deal: Tottenham have completed the signing of USA international DeAndre Yedlin on a four-year deal

Staying put: Yedlin will remain with Seattle Sounders before joining Spurs for the start of the 2015/16 season

A statement on Tottenham's website read: 'We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Seattle Sounders for the transfer of United States international right-back DeAndre Yedlin.

'DeAndre has signed a four-year contract and will remain with Sounders before joining us ahead of the 2015-16 season.'

Yedlin made three appearances for the USA at the World Cup, in group games against Portugal and Germany and in their last-16 defeat to Belgium.

Yedlin becomes Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino's fourth signing of the close season, after Ben Davies, Michel Vorm and Eric Dier all moved to White Hart Lane earlier in the summer.

The 21-year-old joins Tottenham with Seattle's best wishes - head coach Sigi Schmid described the move as an 'exciting' one.

In a statement published on the Sounders' official website, he said: 'We are very excited for DeAndre and the possibilities that exist for him in his future with Tottenham Hotspur. It's an exciting time in his life.

'We are also very pleased that we will be able retain DeAndre's services for the rest of the season in our quest for the MLS Cup.'

Mauricio Pochettino eyes loan move for Danny Welbeck after wrapping up £8m deal for Federico Fazio

* Mauricio Pochettino eyeing loan move for Danny Welbeck
* Pochettino has signed £8million defender Federico Fazio
* Tottenham boss was in Milton Keynes to watch MK Dons defeat Manchester United

Mauricio Pochettino was in Milton Keynes to witness Manchester United’s embarrassing defeat, which offered him a timely insight into the perils of games you are expected to win and a close-up look at Danny Welbeck.

Tottenham are among several clubs interested in signing the England striker, who wants regular football away from Old Trafford.

Pochettino, who clinched the signing of Federico Fazio for £8million from Sevilla on Thursday night, is also keen on Jay Rodriguez but the Southampton striker will not be fit until January and relations between the clubs were soured by a failed swoop for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Done deal: Tottenham have completed the signing of Sevilla defender Federico Fazio in an £8million deal

However, the idea of Welbeck appeals to others at Tottenham, especially on loan.

Spurs boss Pochettino confessed United’s 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to MK Dons was a handy reminder ahead of tonight’s Europa League play-off clash against AEL Limassol, which Spurs lead 2-1 after the first leg.

He said: ‘I was there, I watched the United game. It is a good example for us to be ready. We got a good result in Cyprus but we need to be focused.’

On the move? Pochettino is eyeing a loan move for Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck (above)

Michael Dawson has been sold to Hull but the arrival of Argentine defender Fazio means Spurs are still loaded with centre-halves.

They now have Fazio, Younes Kaboul, Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Vlad Chiriches, who is fit after a back problem and in tonight’s squad, plus young players like Zeki Fryers and Milos Veljkovic.

‘We need to give balance to the squad,’ said Pochettino, who is open to making more signings. ‘I don’t talk about names, never. I always say not to expect a lot of movement but it is possible that we add some players, yes.’

Spurs have to sell to create space for Pochettino to achieve the blend he desires, but are finding it hard to sell the ones they want, at the prices they want.

Roberto Soldado, not in the squad to play AEL because of a bad back, is on AC Milan’s short-list, though the Italians appear to be making progress with a loan deal for Fernando Torres from Chelsea.

Lewis Holtby has emerged as a possible departure, with Hamburg interested in the midfielder.

Kaboul and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris are the main contenders to replace Dawson as club captain, though Pochettino will not make a decision until the transfer activity is over.

Asked if he wanted to succeed Michael Dawson as captain, Hugo Lloris said: 'I don’t really need to wear the armband to feel like a leader for the team. I am very proud to the captain for the French national team.

'For Tottenham it is just the manager’s decision. I am not expecting something about that, I am just trying to do my job in the best way, and I try to help the team to have the best performance.

'And after, in the changing room, I know that I have my place, and I try to be an example for everyone, and especially for my young team-mates because in the squad there are a lot of young players.”

Jay Rodriguez and Andros Townsend could swap clubs as Tottenham present offer to Southampton

* Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is a keen admirer of Jay Rodriguez
* Andros Townsend would make his way to St Mary's in the swap
* Both players are valued between the £12-14million mark

Tottenham are trying to broker a swap deal involving Jay Rodriguez and Andros Townsend.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is a keen admirer of Rodriguez from his time in charge at Southampton.

Spurs feel they need another frontman and are in discussions with Manchester United over the possibility of taking Danny Welbeck, but have asked Saints about an exchange.

Both Townsend and Rodriguez are valued between £12-14million.

The Saints man broke his leg last season - scuppering any chance he had of going to the World Cup - and isn't expected to play until October.

Out of favour? Townsend would move down to the south coast to play for Ronald Koeman's Southampton

Aaron Lennon and Sandro on QPR's radar with Tottenham pair close to leaving White Hart Lane before transfer window closes

* Aaron Lennon and Sandro both left out-of-favour by Mauricio Pochettino
* Neither Tottenham player was in squad for Sunday's 3-0 defeat by Liverpool
* Jermain Defoe understood to want to move to QPR from Toronto FC
* QPR manager Harry Redknapp knows players well from time as Spurs boss
* Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko confirmed offers on Sunday

Jermain Defoe is hoping for a move to the Barclays Premier League to rejoin Harry Redknapp at QPR.

The striker has been at MLS side Toronto since July, but QPR are in the market for a forward after they lost Loic Remy to Chelsea and Defoe is ready to replace him on a permanent deal. Rangers also hope to tie up a loan deal for Sandro and are interested in Aaron Lennon, too.

Both worked under Redknapp at White Hart Lane, but the club wouldn't be able to sign them both temporarily because of loan regulations.

On his way? Sandro may be set to leave Tottenham and join QPR before the transfer window closes on Monday

Going? Aaron Lennon (pictured) and Sandro were left out of Mauricio Pochettino's squad for Sunday's game

Redknapp signed Defoe, who has scored 15 goals in 16 league games for Toronto, while in charge at his previous two clubs Tottenham and Portsmouth. Sandro and Lennon were left out of Tottenham’s squad for Sunday’s defeat by Liverpool.

Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko confirmed on Sunday: 'We have received multiple offers for Jermain Defoe and we will make a decision on this in the next 24 hours.'

Rangers have also bid for Dutch striker Jeremain Lens of Dynamo Kiev and are talking to Dnipro left-back Ivan Strinic. They have also revived interest in Ajax forward Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.

After having to pull Remy out of his squad to face Sunderland at the last minute on Saturday when Chelsea triggered his release clause, Redknapp admitted he would be looking to strengthen in that area. He has only Charlie Austin, who scored his first Premier League goal in their win against Sunderland, and Bobby Zamora as available out-and-out strikers and both have been prone to injuries in recent seasons.

After QPR’s first win of the season, Redknapp called for a rule to be put in place to stop clubs blaming medical tests when deals break down at the last minute. Remy was on the verge of a transfer to Liverpool in July only for the Merseyside club to claim he failed a medical.

Redknapp said: ‘Remy’s a fit lad, he’s never had a problem. That’s a rule that needs to be changed.

‘When there’s a fee agreed and you have the medical, if you don’t sign a player I don’t think you should say he has failed a medical. You should say you couldn’t agree terms. The medical side can finish people’s careers in some cases.’

Redknapp did not have Remy available after Jose Mourinho triggered his £10.5million release clause a few hours before the game.

Remy’s absence did not matter in the end as QPR won their first points of the season when Austin scored from close range in first-half stoppage time.
Redknapp said Liverpool’s allegation damaged QPR. ‘I think it did,’ he added. ‘It didn’t do us any favours.’

Younes Kaboul takes over as Tottenham captain from departed Michael Dawson

* Tottenham have confirmed appointment of Younes Kaboul as skipper
* The Frenchman has led the side on several occasions this season
* Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and striker Emmanuel Adebayor will both act as vice-captains

Younes Kaboul has been named as Tottenham’s new captain.

The Frenchman has led the side on several occasions this season and has now been chosen by manager Mauricio Pochettino as the permanent successor to fellow central defender Michael Dawson, who joined Hull last month.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and striker Emmanuel Adebayor will both act as vice-captains.

A post on the club’s official Twitter feed read: 'Mauricio has announced that Younes Kaboul has been named our new Club captain with Hugo Lloris and Emmanuel Adebayor as vice-captains.'

Adebayor made his 100th appearance for Spurs in Saturday’s Barclays Premier League draw with Sunderland.

The 28-year-old Kaboul joined the club for the second time from Portsmouth in January 2010 and has made 131 appearances in his two spells in north London.

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado attracts interest from Villarreal but Spurs want £12m amid enquiries from Spain and Turkey
  • Tottenham are willing to let Roberto Soldado go and Villarreal are keen
  • Soldado has also fielded enquiries from other Spanish clubs and Turkey
  • There are no formal bids but Tottenham want around £12m for the striker
  • Soldado has struggled for goals in England since £26m transfer in 2013

Villarreal are showing interest in Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado.

The 30-year-old is available for transfer but was at Tottenham's training ground on Monday morning. Villarreal want a striker after selling Luciano Vietto to Atletico Madrid.

Soldado has had enquiries from Spanish clubs and some in Turkey but they have yet to make formal bids.

He is keen to kickstart his career but Tottenham would like to recoup around £12m after paying out a then-club record £26m to Valencia for him in 2013.

Soldado has scored just 16 goals in his two seasons at White Hart Lane having struggled to adapt to life in the Barclays Premier League.

The Spaniard spent much of last season as a back-up to breakthrough Spurs striker Harry Kane with the English youngster outshining his senior counterpart.

He previously played in Spain with Getafe and Valencia after coming up through the ranks at Real Madrid in the early days of his career.

Toby Alderweireld signs for Tottenham for £11.5m on five-year deal as Southampton consider making official complaint to FIFA
  • Tottenham announced signing of Toby Alderweireld on Wednesday
  • The defender spent last season on loan at Southampton from Atletico
  • Southampton believe that Atletico were too late to cancel £6.8m clause

Toby Alderweireld has completed his controversial switch to Tottenham with the defender joining from Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal for a fee of £11.5million.

Spurs announced the deal on their Twitter account on Wednesday morning despite Southampton's attempts to lodge a complaint with FIFA over Atletico's handling of the deal.

The 26-year-old was on loan at St Mary's last season with an option to make the deal permanent for £6.8m.

Toby Alderweireld poses in the new Tottenham shirt after signing for the club on Wednesday morning

Alderweireld spent last season on loan at Southampton, who were also hoping to sign the player

Atletico could have paid £1.5m to buy back that clause and instead sell Alderweireld to the highest bidder but Southampton say the timeframe for the Spaniards to take that option had lapsed.

Alderweireld's signing follows that of Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer and he becomes the fourth Belgian in Tottenham's first-team squad along with Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli.

Alderweireld joins his Belgium international team-mate Jan Vertonghen (right) at White Hart Lane

The former Ajax defender said: 'I’m very proud to be a Tottenham player.
I’m happy to be here and hope to have a wonderful time with this team.

'From the beginning I knew a lot about the club from Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli.

'It’s nice when you join and know a couple of players. I hope to get to know them a little better now.'

The deal comes as a blow to Southampton manager Ronald Koeman who said he had exchanged positive messages with Alderweireld.

The defender enjoyed a fine debut season in the Premier League with Southampton in 2014-15
