FACT OF THE DAY (30 Juli 2010)

Praktis, armada The Cottagers meraih satu tiket berlaga di Europa League.

(far)

Mark Hughes Serang Mancio

Sebagai manajer, Anda katakan, 'Well, ya, saya suka'."

(espn/row)

Hughes: Ferguson Menghormati Saya

LONDON, KOMPAS.com - Pelatih Fulham, Mark Hughes, mengatakan, Manchester United (MU), selalu bermain bagus bila menghadapi tim besutannya.

"Ia memilij tim terkuat melawan saya.

Default Re: Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes backing Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to get one over Barcelona

Mark Hughes believes if any manager can find a way to beat Barcelona it is Sir Alex Ferguson.

By John Ley

Hughes was there at the beginning, so is well placed to pass judgment on Manchester United’s chances of winning the Champions League. And a man who has played for both clubs warned the Spaniards that the shrewd and experienced Ferguson will find a way of upsetting them.

Hughes helped United win their first European trophy under Ferguson 20 years ago — against Barcelona — and believes that while they are the best team in the world with the best player, his old mentor can find a formula and method to topple the favourites at Wembley Stadium.

Hughes, now the Fulham manager, scored both goals in United’s 2-1 win over Johan Cruyff’s Barcelona on a wet Cup Winner’s Cup night in Rotterdam, a triumph which formed the early foundations for the dynasty built by Ferguson.

Hughes said of the current team: “It is a huge achievement as people are trying to say that this United team is not as strong as those that they have had in the past. To overcome arguably the best team that has ever played the game, that is a huge challenge for anyone. But if anyone can do it, it is Manchester United. Sir Alex will find a way if there is a way possible. It is a big ask. Sir Alex knows that you need luck at the right time and if he gets that anything is possible.

“He’s always looked very closely at the opposition, he’s very conscientious, very particular, and he puts the hours in, looking at videos and going to see the opposition.

“He always has a view and an idea in his mind, not only about the tactical side of it, but the personnel as well. He will have a tactical awareness, but it will be about the players that he puts on the field as well.”

Hughes, 47, remembers that first taste of European glory in Holland well, when United were flying the flag for English football at a difficult time.

“We had been out of Europe as a country, not just as a club, for five years after Heysel so we very much thought we were the flag bearers for English football.

“I remember it was a bit drizzly and the rain was coming down and I recall looking over at the Barca players as we lined up and saw a few shivering, looking at the rain and I thought ‘this might suit us better than them’. I think it did.”

The prospect of Wayne Rooney facing Lionel Messi is the one that fans and neutrals alike will be looking forward to.

“They are completely different players,” added Hughes. “They can win games on their own with a flash of brilliance even if the team isn’t playing particularly well, as we saw with Wayne’s goal against Man City.

“Messi is an outstanding player. We’re fortunate that we’re able to see him at his pomp and hopefully we’ll have more years to enjoy what he can produce. He has a great attitude to the game and is playing in a great side.

“We haven’t seen a player like him. I know it’s difficult to compare players from different generations but what he’s doing now in the modern game is outstanding.”

Hughes quits Fulham, no Villa contact
ESPNsoccernet - June 2, 2011

Mark Hughes has left Fulham after less than a year at Craven Cottage, but ESPNsoccernet understands that he is not Aston Villa's first choice to replace Gerard Houllier.

Hughes, 47, walked out on Fulham on Wednesday night after exercising a clause in his contract that allowed him to quit after his first season, though he is officially still contracted to the Cottagers until June 30.

The Welshman had been linked with a move to Villa before leaving Fulham and his departure led to heightened speculation that he would replace Houllier - who himself left Villa Park on Wednesday.

But former Blackburn and Manchester City manager Hughes was keen to insist that an approach from Villa was not behind his Fulham exit and ESPNsoccernet understands he does not even top the midlands club's shortlist.

"I hope the supporters will understand that as a young, ambitious manager I wish to move on to further my experiences," Hughes said.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to clarify that neither myself nor my representative have approached or have been approached by another club."

"I would like to thank the chairman, directors, players and fans of Fulham Football Club for their support over the last 12 months and wish them every success in the future. I believe my management team and I have done a good job and the club has a strong foundation from which they can go forward.

"I have especially enjoyed our excellent relationship with the chairman and chief executive (Alastair Mackintosh). I sincerely wish Fulham a successful campaign in the Europa League next season and for their continued progress on and off the field.''

A Fulham statement confirmed: "Fulham Football Club can confirm that Mark Hughes has provided notice, under the terms of his contract, to leave the club at the end of June. After discussions with Mark the club has agreed to accept this notice."

Hughes joined Fulham last July, seven months after being sacked by Manchester City, and guided the Cottagers to an eighth-place finish - the second highest in the club's history.

Villa announced on Wednesday that they had parted company with Houllier because of the health problems he suffered towards the end of the season and the likes of Steve McClaren, David Moyes and Rafa Benitez have been linked to the post, with former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti emerging as a favourite among the bookies.

Default Re: Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes: Everyone of United's players understands what the club is about...I don't think City have that yet

What better way to ignite a Manchester derby than with a Sparky. Mark Hughes, once of United but more recently City, thinks the team he started to build before Roberto Mancini took over might now have the measure of their Manchester neighbours.
He questions Mancini's 'autocratic' style and suggests it might not necessarily have helped matters in the mess that is the latest Carlos Tevez affair. A situation he says would never have arisen had he still been in charge.

But does he consider City capable of matching United, stride for stride, in what promises to be a fascinating Barclays Premier League title race? 'Without a shadow of a doubt,' he says.
'City have incredible depth. In Europe, in the Champions League, I don't think they can get to where they want to be either this season or the next. Because you have to build that knowledge and United improved year on year by playing in the competition.
'But in the Premier League it can happen much more quickly. They have players who understand the Premier League. They have foreign players who have been there for a few seasons; top players like Vincent Kompany and Nigel de Jong. They understand what's required. In terms of what they have, it stands comparison with any team in the league.'

Hughes is holding court in a smart Italian restaurant in Mayfair, and giving his first proper interview since leaving Fulham in the summer.
He explains what seemed a strange decision and why he would like to return to football the moment the right challenge presents itself.
To do so, he has even been improving his Spanish, while those who would hope to assist him in a new role have been studying other languages to increase the options of Team Hughes.
He also reflects on his time at City, articulating his thoughts on the man who succeeded him as well as the Argentina striker he chose to defend over that recent touchline controversy in Munich. He does share an adviser with Tevez but he thinks it must be difficult for any player to operate under Mancini's strict regime.

First, though, he looks forward rather than back, to what promises to be a momentous encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday.
If he can see a significant difference between the teams, it is something in United that might not yet exist at the Etihad Stadium: the mentality of the team, a collective spirit that has provided the foundation on which United's success has been built under Sir Alex Ferguson.
'Whether or not the group at City, as a whole, work as diligently and with the same mantra as United, I don't know,' he says. 'I'd suggest maybe not.
'Every Manchester United player understands what United is about. The players understand it is a privilege to play for United. They show the club that deference.
'I'm not sure the group of players at City understand that yet. A lot of people have come together very quickly. At United there has been continuity, with the manager, with the success they have had. It gives them a different dynamic.'

So how does he feel about the man City brought in to replace him 22 months ago? 'I don't know the guy personally,' he says. 'But looking at him from the outside, he comes across as autocratic. It's either his way or the highway and I think it's more difficult to be like that in the modern age with modern footballers.
'You have to understand that your decisions can have an impact on players. I'm not sure he indulges players, tries to get to know them or understand them. I'm not sure he's that type of manager.
'To be honest, there's not a wrong or right way of doing things and, at the end of the day, it comes down to results.
'He looks very focused and very driven in terms of what he gets from his players. But will they all love him when he leaves? I would think probably not. And only time will tell if the potential of the group he has is realised.'
But what about Tevez? In the television studio that night Hughes took the opposing view to Graeme Souness, who condemned the City striker for allegedly refusing to come on as a second-half substitute against Bayern Munich.
'You judge people on how you find them, and the relationship you have with them, and during the time I had him as a player he was fantastic,' says Hughes.

Premier League and that was their ambition. But it was not my ambition for them.
'Conversations I was having about players I wanted to bring in were not going well. I read that as them maybe not wanting to keep Fulham in the top half of the Premier League.
'There was the date of June 1 (when his contract needed to be renewed) and the closer it got, the less inclined I was to sign it because it would have meant me committing further than the one year I had left.
'I had real concerns about the age of certain players and I came to the conclusion that it would be better just to shake hands and walk away. Fulham were probably a bit too honest with me. They were saying, "We know exactly what you're about, Mark, but really we are just quite happy to stay in the Premier League".'
But Hughes says he will be back. 'I regret not being in a job at this time of year,' he says. 'That's the animal I am.
'I am comfortable with the decision I made and I am fortunate to be in a position where I can just walk away. I said when I left Man City that I didn't want to compromise myself in terms of decisions that I made.
'I'm a manager and that's what I feel I should be doing. I shouldn't be in the house cleaning the kitchen floor.'
Presumably he'll put his mop down come 1.30pm on Sunday.
