Re: Midfielder - What We need ?

Re: Midfielder - What We need ?

Re: Midfielder - What We need ?

Re: Midfielder - What We need ?
Nih ada artikel menarik.
United focus: Reds' midfield options David Moyes is readying a third bid for Cesc Fabregas that the United manager hopes will be enough to finally convince Barcelona to sell. What is expected to be the Premier League champions’ final offer would smash the £30.75m they paid for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008. But Barcelona – who have already rejected bids of around £26m and £30m – remain adamant that they will not sell at any price, which leaves Moyes facing the possibility of having to go back to the drawing board after already missing out on Thiago Alcantara this summer. Here MEN Sport’s JAMES ROBSON looks at some possible alternatives, should United be rebuffed once more. Yohan Cabaye Newcastle Value: £20m Why he’d fit in: There are growing whispers within Old Trafford that Cabaye is seen as a genuine alternative to Fabregas. Already proven in this country, the Frenchman represents a safe bet as Moyes looks to add players who can hit the ground running at Old Trafford. He was one of the stars of Newcastle’s side that finished fifth in the Premier League in 2012 and is a fixture of the France squad. His vision and movement is precisely what Moyes wants to add to his midfield – but he does not provide the same goal threat as Fabregas. What’s been said? Cabaye has distanced himself from speculation about his future: “I'm just working hard. We have to be focused and ready for the first game on August 19.” Verdict: It is easy to see why Cabaye has admirers within Old Trafford and with a valuation of around £20m would represent a cheaper alternative to Fabregas. But he is not the marquee name that Moyes and Ed Woodward are intent on securing. Marouane Fellaini Everton Value: £23m Why he’d fit in: Fellaini isn’t so much seen as an alternative – rather a potential complement to the creative midfielder Moyes is so desperate to secure. A move for the giant Belgian has not been ruled out, even if United do land Fabregas. Moyes is a huge fan of Fellaini, having worked with him at Everton and will know that he can bring a physical element, as well as a goal threat to Old Trafford. But he has bided his time so far this summer, knowing that £23m bid would be enough to trigger the 25-year-old’s release clause – perhaps waiting to see the success of his hunt for other targets before making a final decision. What’s been said? Everton manager Roberto Martinez said there have been no new bids for Fellaini or another United target Leighton Baines: “I don’t think speculation is healthy, we are just trying to become as good as we can before the transfer window closes. “We are in a great position financially, and will start the season with the best squad we can. Verdict: As a former Everton manager, Moyes is aware of what it will take to secure the signing of Fellaini. That he hasn’t yet raises question marks as to whether he believes he is the right man for United. Luka Modric Real Madrid Value: £30m Why he’d fit in: Sir Alex Ferguson was a big admirer of the former Tottenham playmaker before his move to Real Madrid last summer. The Croatian international would have no problem settling in at Old Trafford after a successful four years in the Premier League that saw him become a target for many of Europe’s biggest clubs. He has endured a difficult time in Spain and was voted as one of the worst signings of last season by supporters. But he showed his quality at Old Trafford when United faced Real in the Champions League in March. Coming off the bench following Nani controversial sending off, the 27-year-old scored an equaliser and helped turn the tie in the Spanish giants’ favour. What’s been said? New Real manager Carlo Ancelotti is adamant Modric will stay at the Bernabeu: “It is not true that Luka is going. He’s very important player for us and he will be here this season.” Verdict: Should Real’s world record move for Gareth Bale materialise then it makes sense that they will look to recoup some money in the transfer market. Modric’s inconsistency since his move from Spurs could put him in the firing line. Claudio Marchisio Juventus Value: £26m Why he’d fit in: One of the more recent names to be linked with United, the Juventus midfielder was one of Italy’s stars of last summer’s European Championships. Energetic, skillful, versatile and creative, he is the complete midfielder. His eight goals in Serie A last season is also evidence of his threat from deep. Word in Italy is that United have been monitoring the 27- year-old with a view to a £26m bid. There may be doubts as to how quickly he would be able to settle in England – but as an experienced international he wouldn’t be daunted by the challenge at Old Trafford. What’s been said? On speculation about his future, Marchisio said: “I will not deny that I feel flattered when I see my name being linked with other clubs, including some of the most important and biggest in the world.” Verdict: A Juventus fan from childhood, Marchisio says he does not want to leave and the Turin giants claim he is not for sale. But Marchisio added intriguingly: “You never know what will happen in football. I would not be the first player to leave his boyhood club.” And one more, just for fun... Juan Mata was an intriguing name thrown into Chelsea’s pursuit of Wayne Rooney last month. The Londoners insist that he was never part of their bid for United’s wantaway striker, but the brilliant playmaker would provide a significant in any deal that took Rooney to Stamford Bridge. |
