Mancini: Chelsea will win the Premier League title
ESPNsoccernet - September 24, 2010

Roberto Mancini has conceded the Premier League title to Chelsea already, as his patched-up Manchester City side containing just three fully-fit senior defenders gets ready to take on the table-toppers.

It is hardly the backdrop he wanted heading into one of the key games of the campaign, and not one that was anticipated when City were spending in excess of £100 million this summer. However, according to Mancini, the result will not have an affect on where the championship ends up this season.

''Chelsea are the best team in the Premier League at the moment,'' he said. ''They are probably going to win the Premier League title easily. They are a strong team, who have been playing together for many years. They have a fantastic manager and they have worked to reach this situation.''

Chelsea certainly could not have started the season in better form and have registered a perfect 15 points from their opening five games, scoring a hatful of goals in the process. Now City must try to keep them out with a side that has been decimated.

Papers: A three-horse race
Daily Mirror, David McDonnell - 24/09/2010 13:48

Title chase is a three-way fight

Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed the title race would come down to a three-way fight between United, Chelsea and Arsenal, with Manchester City in the mix if they can find some consistency. And Fergie joked that Chelsea had influenced the fixture calendar, given the ease with which they won their opening five Premier League games against West Brom, Wigan, Stoke, West Ham and Blackpool. “I think Chelsea chose the calendar themselves,” said Fergie. “They’ve had a quite amazing start to the season. But they finished last season scoring a lot of goals against weaker teams and have continued that way. You still have to beat those teams, and Chelsea done that in quite a strong fashion. Anyone who wins the league will have to finish above them. The previous winners always deserve respect, because the Premier League is a difficult league. Ourselves, Arsenal and Chelsea have started reasonably well and will all be there at the end of the season. Manchester City did not have the strongest start to the season, but you have to think that with the squad they have they’ll be there."

Hoddle: Chelsea have strongest squad in England
Soccernet, Harry Harris - September 24, 2010

Glenn Hoddle signed Ruud Gullit in 1995.

Glenn Hoddle started the first Chelsea Revolution and the former Blues boss is now confident that Carlo Ancelotti has the strongest team in the Premier League.

As Chelsea face their first real big test of the season at Manchester City, followed by a run of games that includes title-chasing Arsenal, the ex-England manager has nothing but admiration for the job Ancelotti is doing at the Bridge.

"Chelsea are playing with such freedom these days. You look at them and you look at the depth of their squad and you think that they right now are the strongest team there," he told the Daily Express. "Ancelotti has got them playing. Technically he has a squad of great players - I believe the strongest squad in the league right now. And he has good players to come off the bench.

"They are scoring goals for fun - but the goals are coming from all areas of the team - not just Drogba or Anelka or Lampard, but also from players like Malouda. They have quality wherever you look. In my view whoever wins the league will have to finish above Chelsea."

Hoddle began the reinvention of Chelsea by signing 1987 Ballon d'Or winner Ruud Gullit and Mark Hughes, which changed the perception of the club under chairman Ken Bates. And he now feels if they can come through this period of tough fixtures they have the strength to make this an historic season.

He added: "This is going to be a tough patch for them, with games against Man City, Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool, but I think they have the strength in depth to cope with it. And they have the experience. It wasn't an easy run winning the title last year, they had some moments, but they came through it.

"I don't have a worry for Chelsea in the league. I think they will win it. Where I have a worry about them is in the Champions League. Chelsea have gone so close now, and have been going for it for so many years, that I worry if they want it too much. Maybe that desire in them to win the Champions League is burning just a bit too much.

"It comes from the top from Roman Abramovich I think, because that is the trophy he really wants, but it is not just him. It is in the players themselves. They want that trophy above any other - and maybe that is a danger. Maybe that just makes you a little bit too desperate, maybe it clouds your vision a bit.

"Also, a lot of these players are getting to the stage now where maybe this is their last shot at it, and they know that.

"You are better off going into a competition knowing you are better than anyone else and knowing you can win it, like they do with the league, having confidence. But they have had a few setbacks in Europe, a few bits of bad luck, never quite made it - so there is not quite the same level of confidence, and maybe a bit of desperation - and I'm not sure that is as healthy.

"It is odd that, in Carlo Ancelotti, who has won it twice and knows all about the competition, they have a manager who should be able to calm that down, steady them, and instil the confidence in him. He is a calming influence, a steadying hand. But it still worries me that it is in the players, inside them."

Essien: Man City are our closest title rivals
ESPNsoccernet - October 4, 2010

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has pinpointed Manchester City as the biggest threat to his side's title hopes, though he is unsure if they will be able to sustain a challenge for the whole season.

Essien helped Chelsea to a 2-0 victory over London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and Carlo Ancelotti's side are now four points clear of City at the top of the Premier League as they look to retain their title.

Chelsea are also seven points clear of Arsenal after a goal in each half from Didier Drogba and defender Alex secured another victory over Arsene Wenger's side.

But Essien, who produced another superb display in midfield, fears City, who beat Chelsea 1-0 at Eastlands last week, could provide the biggest threat to their chances of hanging on to their crown.

"We have to keep playing like we did against Arsenal and keep getting points," Essien said. "We led for much of last season but last season is gone. We have a new season now and it will be decided at the end.

"Manchester City are our closest challengers right now. You can see they made good signings and they will be up for it. We will see what happens. I don't know if they will have the stamina but they have the players to go out and do the job.

"Maybe we have an advantage because we know what it takes to win the league but every season is different. We have to keep going. The rest of the teams are there and will be fighting for it. It is up to us to get as many points as we can."

Essien is determined to repay Chelsea, who helped him overcome the most difficult period of his career over the last two seasons. He was sidelined for 11 months because of serious knee injuries but signed a new contract in the summer.

"I've had two serious injuries and these are the kind that can end your career," Essien said. "I'm lucky enough to be back on the pitch and have put everything behind me.

"Most players who have been out for so long with an injury don't get a new contract. This shows the club have great confidence in me. It was difficult watching Chelsea win the double last season and to also miss the World Cup but injuries are part of the game.

"You have to accept it. I'm just happy they made it possible for me to be back. I want to repay the club with my performances and if we win something that will be good."

[EPL] Chelsea next matches

yah simple aja sih ..., klo gak berkenan .., gak usah comment ...
