Default Re: Facundo Pellistri

Erik ten Hag 'is set to hand young Man United winger Facundo Pellistri a chance to impress him during pre-season this summer', with the starlet 'keen for more minutes in bid to start for Uruguay at the World Cup'

* Facundo Pellistri's future at Manchester United is unclear over lack of game time
* The young forward is set to be handed the chance to impress boss Erik ten Hag
* Reports claim the 20-year-old will be given minutes in pre-season this summer

Erik ten Hag is poised to give young Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri a chance to impress him during pre-season this summer, according to reports.

The promising starlet has typically dazzled with Uruguay whilst on international duty, but struggled to make an impact this season after a limp loan spell with Alaves.

Last summer, he re-joined the LaLiga club after spending the second half of the 2020-21 campaign there, but has gone on to make just six starts this season.

As a result, his long-term future at Old Trafford appears uncertain.

However, the Manchester Evening News have claimed that Pellistri will be afforded minutes to demonstrate that he deserves a spot in the first-team next term.

After that, it is said that boss Ten Hag will make a decision over how best to continue the forward's development, with United also keen on reinforcing that area.

Another loan spell away has not been ruled out, and the same outlet has added that the 20-year-old is keen to earn regular game time next season.

Facundo Pellistri will be given the chance to impress Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. New boss Ten Hag will keep a keen eye over his squad in pre-season as he looks to strengthen. Forward Pellistri has dazzled with Uruguay, but his long-term future at club level is less certain

He therefore has also acknowledged that leaving temporarily may help him press home his claim for a spot in Uruguay's starting XI at the World Cup this winter.

United, who have now begun their new era under their new manager, are desperate to fix their long-term issues on the right flank, and this is Pellistri's best position.

Indeed, all of his senior appearances for his country have come on that side, and he has impressed there, having picked up three assists in six appearances.

Pellistri joined United in the summer of 2020 for a fee of around €10 million (£8.5m).

PELLISTRI RELAXED AHEAD OF EXCITING TIME

Facundo Pellistri says he is relaxed about what is potentially a very exciting time for the Manchester United winger.

The Uruguayan has been on the bench but is still awaiting his competitive first-team debut for the Reds, since joining in 2020 from Penarol.

A maiden appearance could be on the horizon now he is back to fitness after an up-and-down pre-season saw him pick up an injury after the high of scoring in July's 4-0 friendly victory over Liverpool in Bangkok.

There is also the prospect of a place in his country's World Cup squad, with the tournament in Qatar creeping ever closer.

"I'm very happy to be back here again," he told us, following his loan move to Alaves last term. "I'm training hard on a daily basis and enjoying everything about life here at this great club, Manchester United. I'm hoping for the chance to be able to get some game-time under my belt. So all this makes me very pleased.

"Well, I'm quite calm and relaxed about it [making my debut]. As you said, I've played in a lot of pre-season and friendly games for the club but I'm still to make my debut, for a number of different reasons really. I've also been out on loan a lot but, this time, I've stayed put and so I'm searching for my opportunity, but I'm pretty chilled as I wait for that moment to come around."

Pellistri, who does not turn 21 until December, appreciates the opportunity to work at Carrington every day as he continues to learn his trade.

"Yes, it's incredible," he enthused. "Training alongside players of that class, they are top, top players and you learn a lot from them. I'm very happy to be sharing a training pitch and, of course, a dressing room with these guys.

"Of course, as a result of the language more than anything, I get on best with the lads who can speak Spanish. But the group of players, as a whole, is just fantastic and, luckily, they are nice people too."

The World Cup is often viewed as the pinnacle in every player's career and the youngster is delighted to have been regularly involved with Uruguay, as they prepare for games against South Korea, Portugal and Ghana in Group H of the finals.

"Yes, to represent your country is always the best thing there is," he smiled. "And, fortunately, I've had the chance to be in the Uruguay side and be alongside some tremendous players there too. So I'm really happy to have been given that opportunity and to be continuing to make the most of it.

"For sure, it [the World Cup] is something that you have in your mind. I'm always one for taking things on a day-to-day basis but we're getting closer and closer to the World Cup now. So you just have to keep working hard and training hard so that, if you are given the call, you make sure you get there in the best shape possible, in order to try to have a good tournament."

Default Re: Facundo Pellistri

Facundo Pellistri 'wants to leave Manchester United PERMANENTLY during the January transfer window' after failing to play a single game for the Red Devils following his £9m arrival two years ago under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Facundo Pellistri could leave United permanently in January transfer window
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed the winger from Uruguayan side Penarol in 2020
* However, the youngster is yet to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils
* He is said to be against joining another club on loan after his spell at Alaves
* As a result, he could leave the club five months before his contract expires

Facundo Pellistri will look to secure a permanent transfer away from Manchester United during the January transfer window, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed the 20-year-old winger from Uruguayan side Penarol for £9million in 2020. However, he is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

Erik ten Hag gave Pellistri a chance to impress during United's pre-season campaign but the winger failed to make his mark and slipped further down the pecking order.

According to AS, Pellistri is against going out on loan again - having previously completed a spell Alaves.

The youngster would rather terminate his United contract permanently than leave the club on a temporary basis.

Facundo Pellistri could leave Manchester United permanently in January transfer window. Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed the winger from Uruguayan side Penarol in 2020. However, he is yet to make a senior appearance for United despite joining two years ago

As a result, he could part ways with the Red Devils during the January transfer window - five months before his contract expires in June 2025.

Pellistri will look to showcase his skills at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after being named in Uruguay's initial 35-man squad.

Pellistri's agent believes the 20-year-old will pick up several suitors following the showpiece tournament later this month.

Edgardo Lasalvia told ESPN: 'I think that with a good World Cup, as we think it will have, his departure is imminent'.

However, Pellistri struggled for form while on loan with Alaves. He failed to score or register an assist during his spell with the Spanish side.

He did mange to find the back of the net three times for United's U21 side but he is yet to prove himself at senior level despite joining the club two years ago.

Default Re: Facundo Pellistri

PELLISTRI'S 2022 WORLD CUP JOURNEY IS OVER

Facundo Pellistri and Uruguay were knocked out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Friday evening, despite defeating Ghana 2-0.

Diego Alonso's side entered the Group H finale knowing that nothing less than victory would give them a chance of progressing to the last 16.

Things looked to be going the way La Celeste had hoped at half-time, with Giorgian de Arrascaeta's double and Sergio Rochet's penalty save from Andre Ayew's spot-kick giving Uruguay a deserved lead.

Given South Korea were only drawing 1-1 with Portugal at the break in the other Group H match, Alonso's side were set to be heading into the next stage of the 2022 World Cup.

However, while Uruguay were still leading 2-0, South Korea managed to score a last-minute winner in their game and all of a sudden, La Celeste were heading out.

The South Americans threw everything at their African counterparts in the latter stages but could not breach their defence for a third time, meaning that on goals scored, Uruguay have been eliminated from the World Cup at the group stage for the first time since 2002.

The opening exchanges of the highly anticipated clash - a repeat of the controversial 2010 quarter-final - were cagey. Pellistri was unleashed down the right by Guillermo Varela early on, but his centre was not met by a team-mate.

However, the match came alive when Jordan Ayew's shot from the outside of the box was saved by Sergio Rochet, before the Uruguayan goalkeeper was beaten to the ball by Mohammed Kudus and fouled the Ghana attacker. Following a lengthy VAR review, the African side were awarded a spot-kick.

Andre Ayew stepped up to take the penalty, but his shot down low to Rochet's left was saved by La Celeste's stopper.

Just minutes later, Darwin Nunez was played in behind and lofted the ball over Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi, but Mohammed Salisu was able to recover and hook the ball clear before it crossed the line.

On 26 minutes, Uruguay took the lead, when Luis Suarez was found inside the box and he cut inside before firing a shot across goal. Ati-Zigi did well to save, but de Arrascaeta was in the right place at the right time to head home from just a yard out.

La Celeste doubled their advantage minutes later, through the same combination, as Suarez lofted the ball to de Arrascaeta, before the midfielder thumped an unstoppable volley into the back of the net.

Ghana looked to find a way back into the match before the break, with Kudus seeing a vicious strike from distance blocked by the stern Uruguay defence.

Just moments after the restart, Ghana went close, with substitute Osman Bukari finding space in the box, but he dragged his effort wide.

On the hour, Uruguay thought they had been awarded a penalty, as Nunez was taken down by Daniel Amartey in the box. Following another VAR review, the referee decided not to award La Celeste a spot-kick, ruling that the Ghana defender got the ball.

A huge opportunity fell to Pellistri shortly after, with the winger receiving the ball in the box after good work down the Uruguay left. The young Red turned and fired powerfully towards goal, but his shot flew inches wide of the post.

As the match entered the closing stages, Ghana started to pile on the pressure. Antoine Semenyo, who was introduced as a second-half substitute, had a golden opportunity on the left side of the box, but dragged his left-footed effort agonisingly wide.

With just five minutes left to go, news began to filter through of South Korea's 2-1 win against Portugal, meaning that Uruguay needed one more goal to book their place in the World Cup's last 16.

In additional time, Maximiliano Gonzalez led a threatening counter, but Ati-Zigi did well to turn it around the post. Almost immediately after, Kudus saw his shot saved by Rochet, as the match became end-to-end.

Former United striker Edinson Cavani was sent through on goal and appeared to be taken down by Alidu Seidu, but his shouts were waved away as Uruguay desperately searched for a third goal to send them through.

With what would be the final chance for Alonso's side, Sebastian Coates, up from the back, prodded an effort wide after being found with a low cross.

Despite the late flurry of action, the match finished 2-0, meaning both Uruguay and Ghana are eliminated, with Portugal and South Korea advancing to the last 16.

Default Re: Facundo Pellistri

Manchester United's Facundo Pellistri will hold crunch talks about his future at the club after making his first-team debut... and could be sent out on loan to either Valencia or Watford

* Man United winger Facundo Pellistri will hold talks over his future at the club
* The Uruguayan made his first-team debut against Charlton on Tuesday
* However, he will now meet with Erik ten Hag to discuss his role within the team
* A loan move is one option with both Watford and Valencia interested in the star

Manchester United winger Facundo Pellistri will hold talks over his immediate future at Old Trafford after making his debut in Tuesday's 3-0 League Cup win over Charlton.

Pellistri - a Uruguayan international who played for his country at the World Cup in Qatar - had to wait over two years to get first-team minutes at United having joined the club from Penarol in his homeland in 2020.

The 21-year-old enjoyed two reasonably successful loan spells at LaLiga side Deportivo Alaves before impressing United boss Erik ten Hag in pre-season.

Pellistri impressed with his cameo in the win over Charlton as he came off the bench and provided an assist for Marcus Rashford.

The January transfer window has presented the 21-year-old with an opportunity to gain regular minutes elsewhere with recognised interest coming from English and Spanish sides.

A meeting has been scheduled over the coming days between Pellistri, his representatives and Ten Hag to discuss the player's future at the club and determine whether another loan move may be of benefit.

Pellistri is considering a move away from Old Trafford in the January transfer market. The 21-year-old is keen to get more game-time after playing a limited role at United. Man United boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan of Pellistri's attitude and work ethic in training

Ten Hag has previously been reluctant to allow the South American to leave the club.

LaLiga outfit Valencia have been tracking Pellistri's performances for United's under-21 team and have enquired about the possibility of a loan deal until the end of the season.

Championship side Watford have also lodged an official enquiry to take the star on loan, but Pellistri isn't keen on dropping down a division.

The youthful attacker is well-liked by his United teammates, many of whom rushed to congratulate him on Instagram after making his debut, and he is viewed by Ten Hag as a brilliant trainer.

Therefore the option of him staying at the club after the January transfer window is another alternative that will also be discussed at the upcoming meeting.
