Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
Premier League clubs to be given top tips to combat cyber crime after Manchester United were held ransom by hackers late last year
* The National Cyber Security Centre will give guidance to sporting organisations * Manchester United were held ransom by a cyber security attack last year * 11 top-flight clubs and 35 Football League clubs will attend the summit Premier League clubs will attend a sports cyber security summit on Wednesday — two months after Manchester United were held to ransom by hackers. The National Cyber Security Centre will give guidance to over 180 representatives from clubs and organisations across several sports in how to protect themselves from cyber criminals. Among those attending will be 11 top-flight clubs and 35 from the EFL. Last year, the agency revealed that cyber crime targeting professional teams included an attempt to sabotage a transfer involving a Premier League club. And in November Sportsmail revealed United were victims of a hack the club described as ‘a sophisticated operation by organised cyber criminals’. Premier League clubs are set to get guidance from the National Cyber Security Centre. Manchester United were the target of a cyber security attack by criminals late last year Some of the club’s IT systems were disabled by the breach and staff were told not to use email after United fell victim to the ransomware virus, believed to originate from an email phishing scam. Sarah Lyons, the NCSC’s deputy director for economy and society, said: ‘It’s great to see so many sports clubs and organisations coming together like this and showing they take cyber security seriously.’ Code:

Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
FA blasts 'anonymous keyboard warriors' as they release powerful statement following latest 'abhorrent racist abuse' of Lauren James and Axel Tuanzebe, calling for social media companies to dish out bans
* The FA has called on the Government to act 'quickly' against racism in football * They have asked for 'appropriate legislation' to provide 'real-life consequences' * The statement came after Tuanzebe and James were both subjected to abuse The Football Association has called on the Government to act quickly in the fight against racism. The governing body released a statement on Twitter calling for 'appropriate legislation' to be brought in to provide 'real-life consequences' for the 'keyboard warriors who hide in a world of impunity.' The FA's announcement came after Axel Tuanzebe and Lauren James were both subjected to discriminatory abuse online over the weekend. The FA has called on the Government to act 'quickly' against in the fight against racism. They have called for 'appropriate legislation' to provide 'real-life consequences' for offenders Tuanzebe suffered racist abuse once again after the Red Devils let two leads slip to draw 3-3 with Everton on Saturday. Racists comments flooded onto Tuanzebe's Instagram account after he gave away the free-kick which saw Everton secure the last-minute draw at Old Trafford. While James, the sister of Chelsea defender Reece James, shared a vile screenshot of a number of monkey emojis directed to her by one particular user under her Instagram upload. Axel Tuanzebe was subjected to racist abuse for the second time after the draw with Everton. Vile messages flooded in on Saturday night after United gave away two leads at Old Trafford Following the two incidents, the FA released the following statement: 'It has been yet another weekend where players are facing discriminatory abuse and having to deal with anonymous keyboard warriors who hide in a world of impunity. At The FA, we believe that enough is enough. 'We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real-life consequences. 'Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse. James posted the screenshot of a hateful social media comment with the caption 'boring now' 'We stand with Lauren James, Axel Tuanzebe and every victim of discrimination in all its forms. It's time for change.' A number of players have received similar racial abuse in recent days as part of a worrying spate of abuse from online trolls. Manchester United stars Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have all been involved in similar incidents after their defeat by Sheffield United. The Greater Manchester Police revealed they will be launching an investigation into the barrage of online abuse the players received. While Chelsea defender Reece James, Lauren's older brother, has been subjected to such discrimination too - prompting Blues owner Roman Abramovich to send a letter to every player at the club condemning the messages and offering support. Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has shared his opinion on the rise in online abuse. Following the news that Antonio Rudiger had been targeted, Hudson-Odoi told beIN Sports: 'How can that make sense? 'If somebody puts for example, a monkey emoji towards a player - why is that? How is a player a monkey? What does that mean to a player? 'So for us seeing stuff like that it always makes us angry. Are you saying that because of our skin colour? Because of the colour that we are? 'Or are you just saying that because you just want to be, you think that you're funny or you want to get a laugh out of people? 'No one laughs at that sort of situation. All of us take that personally as a team and as players. We have to do something about it.' Code:

Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
Premier League records just TWO Covid cases after 2,970 players and staff were checked in latest round of tests in the lowest total since October as infections continue to plummet during lockdown
* Premier League tests players and staff twice-a-week to reduce spread of Covid * The latest round of checks produced only two positive coroanvirus cases * Positive results have fallen significantly since Christmas, when they peaked * Reduction in cases follows tough new rules to prevent the infections spreading * Nationwide infections and deaths fall to their lowest levels since December The Premier League has reported just two Covid-19 cases in the latest round of weekly tests as infections continue to drop in the top flight. The number represents the lowest total of new cases during a round of testing in the league since October, when two positive cases came back from 1,609 tests conducted. Since the New Year, Premier League clubs have been required to test players and staff twice-a-week. And the increased testing, along with a raft of stricter rules to limit the spread of the virus, appear to have steadily reduced the number of cases, from a high of 40 in the week during the festive period. The Premier League has recorded just two Covid cases in the latest round of results. Premier League clubs use accurate PCR tests when checking for coronavirus in staff The latest total of two infections compares to seven new Covid cases identified from 2,957 tests last week and an infection rate of 0.24%, which is well below the figure in the wider community. After Christmas, ministers expressed concern at the behaviour of some players on and off the pitch. Seven Premier League stars were found to have attended parties, in breach of the rules, over Christmas and politicians and health experts were frustrated by widespread hugging after goals. However, the Premier League and EFL introduced new guidelines explicitly restricting contact on and off the field, including hugging. They followed this up with conversations with executives, coaches and players at the clubs. While, the adherence to the rules is not complete, there have been noticeable efforts from some players and clubs to keep their distance, even after important goals. The improved picture has been reflected in fewer postponements. No games have been called off in the Premier League due to Covid outbreaks this month, and only two last month, both involving Aston Villa after the virus ripped through the club. The overall reduction in the Covid infection rates within the Premier League has mirrored a similar fall in the English Football League and nationwide. Leicester's James Maddison has led the way with his socially distant goal celebration Last week, the EFL detected a further 19 Covid cases in its round of weekly tests among players and staff. The lower leagues test twice-a-week but use a less accurate lateral flow analysis. Today, thrpughout the country, the daily count of Covid-19 deaths has dropped to the lowest level in six weeks to 333 and the number of infections is down to 14,014, official figures show. Newly announced fatalities were lower than any time since December 27 today, dropping 18 per cent from 406 last Monday. And daily positive tests fell by a quarter from 18,607 a week ago, with today's number lower than at any time since December 8. Quote:

Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
Premier League announces TWO new positive coronavirus tests in latest batch of testing as cases remain low despite outbreak that forced members of Manchester United's coaching staff to sit out Newcastle clash
* The Premier League reveals there were two positive Covid-19 cases last week * A total of 2,633 players and club staff were tested between February 15-21 * Those who have tested positive will have to self-isolate for a period of 10 days There were two new positive Covid-19 tests in the Premier League's latest batch of results. The league has announced that between Monday, February 15 and Sunday, February 21, a total of 2,633 players and club staff were tested. It is the third week running that the round of twice-weekly testing has produced just two positive tests. Those who have tested positive will now have to self-isolate for a period of 10 days. The news comes after Manchester United were hit by a Covid outbreak before Sunday night’s victory over Newcastle at Old Trafford. Two Premier League players or staff tested positive for coronavirus in the top-flight latest batch of testing held last week. A total of 2,633 players and club staff were tested between February 15 and 21 The majority of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching team were missing from the dugout after it emerged three staff had tested positive. United did not name the staff who have been affected, but insisted no players were involved. Asked about the situation, Solskjaer said: ‘We’ve got good staff elsewhere. Of course it was a different preparation for the boys, but that’s the situation we are in. ‘We have to be ready and we were ready. We’ll have to follow the protocols.’ Despite the disruption, United beat Newcastle 3-1 to reclaim second place from Leicester. Both clubs remain 10 points adrift of leaders Manchester City. Manchester United's coaching staff was largely absent on Sunday due to a Covid-19 scare. Premier League sides will need to isolate for 10 days after any foreign trip, including for European matches, but they can still play or train in that period It was also revealed on Monday that Premier League players and coaches will be required to isolate for 10 days following any overseas trip, complicating the schedules of teams still in the Champions League and Europa League. Outside of training and competing, a mandatory 10-day quarantine will now be required for all overseas trips for club or international football. But the 10-day period can be reduced by half if a player of staff member can provide a negative Covid-19 test following a five-day isolation. Code:

Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
Premier League clubs are being hit with £5,000 fines each time their players swap shirts with opponents for 'ill discipline' regarding Covid-19 protocol... and players are being asked to stump up the money
* A £5,000 fine will be handed to Premier League sides when players swap shirts * One top-flight team has already fallen foul of the rules on two occasions * Swapping shirts is said to show 'ill-discipline' regarding Covid-19 protocols * The Premier League clubs and players in question have not been named Premier League clubs are being hit with a £5,000 fine every time a player swaps shirts after a game, with one side already penalised twice. Fines have been issued after players were found by their Premier League-appointed Covid compliance officer to have shown 'ill-discipline regarding protocols'. Clubs can choose to pay the fine or pass it on to players. The club which was fined twice ordered the two players who committed the breach to stump up. The opposing clubs are also thought to have been fined for their players' part in the shirt-swaps. Sportsmail knows the name of the club, who do not want to be identified. Premier League clubs are being hit with fines of £5,000 every time players swap shirts - the clubs and players in question have not been named The club in question were surprised to hear of the fine from the Premier League, rather than direct from the Covid officer who monitors players' conduct at all training sessions and matches. There is tension within certain clubs about the presence of this new cadre of officers, with some feeling that they are 'hovering'. One club describes the Covid compliance officer measuring out the distance between two players in a club medical room after seeing them talking, to ensure the appropriate distance. The clubs, which have not been disclosed, can choose to pay the fine or pass it on to players, also not identified, amid Covid-19 protocols The 20 club-specific officers, who work on behalf of the Premier League but are not on staff, are also being asked to check that players socially distance when eating in the canteen and do not park cars too closely together. The tougher new Premier League rules were communicated by letter to all clubs on January 7, when players were routinely hugging on the pitch despite infection rates soaring in the country and within the game. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola controversially said that he did not believe his players would be able to adhere to the rules outdoors. The shirt-swapping fines come at a time when Premier League clubs are looking forward to the strict world of protocols coming to an end. They are expecting a rule stipulating that every club must use three coaches to travel to away games to be removed at the end of the season, along with the ban on room-sharing. Some top clubs have stopped taking chefs on their coaches because of the restrictions. The extra cost of hiring only single rooms has led some EFL clubs to abandon overnight stays altogether. The Premier League would not discuss individual club fines, but said that the system of introducing tougher rules, Covid officers and Covid matchday co-ordinators had been accompanied by a sharp drop in positive tests. After 36 positive tests were reported from clubs for the week to January 10, the figure immediately dropped to 16 and has been at two for the past five weeks. Code:

Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry are announced as the first two Premier League legends to be inducted into the all-new Hall of Fame... as fans are asked to vote on SIX other icons to join them in the next few weeks
* Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry are the Premier League's 'inaugural inductees' * Newcastle and Arsenal legends take their place on the Hall of Fame this week * Fans will now be asked to whittle 23-man shortlist down to six other inductees * Shearer is league's all-time top goalscorer while Henry won four Golden Boots Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry have become the first two Premier League legends to be inducted into the all-new Hall of Fame. The Newcastle and Arsenal heroes, widely regarded as two of the best strikers ever to play in the English game, are the first to take up their place, with many more to join them in the coming months and years. In announcing the news, the Premier League's official account introduced the pair as: 'Two centre-forwards, both gifted with natural skill and talent who have written their names in Premier League history.' Thierry Henry (left) and Alan Shearer have become first to enter Premier League's Hall of Fame Shearer is the league's all-time top goalscorer after 14 seasons with Blackburn and Newcastle Henry, meanwhile, is Arsenal's all-time leading scorer and a four-time Golden Boot winner The first two inductees were teased on social media in a video last week, in which the likes of Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright gave clues as to who could be taking the honour. One of the players was described as 'lethal, unmarkable at times' and a 'devastating phenomenon', while the other, according to former Liverpool man Jamie Carragher, was 'an absolute nightmare to play against'. The two 'inaugural inductees' will soon be joined by six other big names, who will be voted onto the Hall of Fame by fans over the next few weeks. A special programme on Sky Sports tonight will announce the 23-man shortlist of candidates, before supporters have their say to whittle them down to six. The likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira, Ryan Giggs and Eric Cantona are expected to be among the big names in the discussion. Henry and Shearer, meanwhile, can rest assured in the knowledge that their place is set in stone, and they have received their personalised medallion, engraved with the year of their induction. Speaking about his induction, the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer Shearer said: 'When you look at some of the unbelievable players to have graced the Premier League – week in, week out, year in, year out – I feel very honoured to join the Hall of Fame. 'I have to thank all of my team-mates, as well as the managers and coaches that I've worked with. All I ever wanted to be was a professional footballer. 'It was my dream to do that, my dream to win trophies and my dream to score at St James' Park, to wear the No 9 black-and-white shirt and it was fantastic. I enjoyed every minute of it.' Shearer was the first player to reach 100 Premier League goals, netting 112 times for Blackburn, before he secured a then world-record £15million transfer to his boyhood club Newcastle in 1996. From there, he netted another 148 goals in 303 matches over a 10-year spell, taking his total tally to 260 goals across 14 seasons. Henry, meanwhile, won four Golden Boots in a 175-goal haul at Arsenal, in turn becoming the club's all-time top goalscorer. Upon hearing the news of his induction, the Frenchman noted: 'To be inducted alongside Alan Shearer as the two first inductees into the Premier League Hall of Fame is more than special. The Premier League's Hall of Fame has now been launched, with six others soon to join the list Manchester United legend Eric Cantona (centre) is also in contention to win a place 'When I was young, I was just trying to make sure I could get a pair of boots and now we're talking about the Hall of Fame. During my career I wanted to play hard and make sure I was fighting for the cause, because that's all the fans want to see. 'If you asked me at the start of my career about entering the Hall of Fame, I wouldn't have believed you. It's an amazing honour.' Both have taken different paths since the end of their playing days. Shearer, 50, after briefly dabbling in management at Newcastle is now the BBC's lead pundit on Match of the Day, while Henry, 43, is trying to establish himself as a coach, most recently with Montreal Impact in MLS, as well as doing punditry for Sky. The Hall of Fame was initially scheduled to launch last year, but had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Code:

Re: Premier League - News and Rumors
Premier League confirm zero new positive Covid tests among 2,787 players and staff for the first time EVER as the UK's daily cases continue to fall
* The Premier League have recorded no new positive Covid tests for the first time * A total of 2,787 players and staff tested negative across two rounds of testing * The news comes as the football authorities ramp up the return of supporters * Meanwhile, UK's daily cases fell to lowest number since September on Sunday The Premier League has announced that there were no positive samples returned in their latest round of Covid-19 testing. The league announced on Monday afternoon that 2,787 players and club staff all returned negative results across two rounds of testing. It is the first time the English top-flight has recorded no positives, with the previous lowest figure being one. That was recorded in consecutive weeks ending March 28 and April 4, with the number falling to zero over the last week. The news comes as the football authorities continue to ramp up the return of fans in large stadiums, with a view to all lockdown rules being ended on June 21. On Sunday, fans of both Tottenham and Manchester City attended the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, with NHS workers and local residents also part of the crowd. Almost 8,000 supporters watched on as Aymeric Laporte's header handed City their first trophy of the season, while 4,000 fans were also in attendance for Leicester's FA Cup semi-final win over Southampton at the national stadium a week earlier. The Premier League have confirmed no positive Covid tests in their latest round of testing Meanwhile, the UK's number of daily cases continues to fall, two weeks on from lockdown being eased on April 12. On Sunday, the Government said there had been a further 1,712 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK - a drop of nine per cent compared to last week's figure of 1,882. That number is the lowest number since the 1,508 recorded on September 2, 2020, although deaths did rise by one to 11. Data released on Sunday shows the number of Covid cases total 4,404,882, whilst the total number of Covid deaths within 28 days of a positive test has reached the tragic total of 127,428. Code:
