Szczesny's X-rated gesture could land him in hot water with UEFA after Gunners keeper sees red against Munich

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could face disciplinary action from UEFA after appearing to make an obscene gesture following his dismissal against Bayern Munich.

The 23-year-old Polish stopper goalkeeper was red-carded after 37 minutes for wiping Arjen Robben out in the penalty area.

After the red card, Szczesny, who was replaced by Lukasz Fabianski, appeared to make an obscene gesture before walking down the tunnel to the changing rooms.

Munich's David Alaba missed the resulting penalty, following on from the earlier spot-kick failure from Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil in the first half.

Szczesny's red card is the 100th chalked up by an Arsenal player during the Arsene Wenger era, which began in 1996.

Patrick Vieira tops the list with 10 dismissals, with Martin Keown in second with seven red cards and six players, Dennis Bergkamp, Gilles Grimandi, Laurent Koscielny, Ray Parlour, Emmanuel Petit and Robin van Persie, sitting third with four sendings-off each.

Quote:
IT WAS A PENALTY BUT NOT A RED-CARD OFFENCE

Graham Poll's official line

I can see why Nicola Rizzoli decided to send off Wojciech Szczesny, but I believe it was a penalty and not a red card.

With the benefit of viewing the incident in slow motion, it is clear that Arjen Robben had knocked the ball past the keeper at the time of impact.

The ball was drifting wide of goal as Robben crashed to the ground and I believe it was too far away from the player to constitute a clear and obvious goalscoring chance.

In real time, the majority of referees would have sent Szczesny off but with the benefit of video replay — and playing by the letter of the law — it was a harsh decision.

Arsenal made to pay, but Munich fans get their money's worth with subsidised tickets

At £132 a throw for the top-priced seats, Arsenal’s supporters get a one-way ticket out of the Champions League. It happens every year.

For the thousands who filed out of the Emirates after Thomas Muller scored Bayern Munich’s second in the 88th minute, it must have felt like robbery.
They had a gun put to their heads when Arsenal set the ticket prices for a second-round clash against the style council that has become Bayern Munich.

Subsidised: Bayern Munich aid for their fans to get cheaper tickets at the game

Despite the phenomenal cost, the steepest in European football, this match was a must-watch from the moment Mesut Ozil missed a first-half penalty.

There was no boycott, despite the threats by fan’s groups. No one could possibly turn their back on a game as big as this.

In the beginning it felt like Arsenal’s fans were paying through the nose to watch their stylish team put the willies up Pep Guardiola’s side. But by the end of the half there was a sinister air following the dismissal of Wojciech Szczesny.

Bayern Munich’s 2,974 supporters, squeezed into the corner of the Clock End and East End, played their part in generating an incredible atmosphere.

As a present from their club, they were in the stadium on heavily subsidised tickets.

They waited patiently, forgiving David Alaba for missing a penalty, and then watched agog as Toni Kroos scored an absolute corker.

His was a masterful display, taking more touches (172) than the entire Arsenal team put together. He was gold.

Arsenal charged the away fans £62 each for a ticket, but Bayern put the best part of £25 towards their tickets, at a total cost to the German superpower of £65,000.

It is a subject Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s controversial president, had addressed a number of times before their trip to London.

Bayern’s turnover last season was a fraction short of £400m.

They know that charging the fans a few more quid will barely register with a bank account as big as that.

‘We could triple our prices from 8100 to 8300,’ says Hoeness. ‘But we do not think fans are cows who should be milked.’

To watch their team, unbeaten in the Bundesliga after 21 games, Bayern fans pay some of the lowest ticket prices in European football.

For the price of a Champions League clash with Arsenal, you can buy a season ticket behind the goal in Munich.

In return you get to watch Robben, Ribery, Kroos and company stick four past Freiburg at the weekend or five past Eintracht Frankfurt.

Tickets for the second leg in the sporting cathedral that is the AllianzArena, which range between £12-£50, have already sold out.

Arsenal’s fans will travel to Germany in numbers next month on a subsidised package of their own.

It will still cost them a bob or two, but the club are keen to stress that their travelling fans are subsidised to the tune of £2.50 for every away game. That’s a small gesture, but it’s something.

Huge support: Games at the Allianz cost from just £12 to £50

By the time that tie takes place on March 11, UEFA will be preparing for the annual shelling that accompanies the ticket pricing strategy for the final.

At the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon on May 24, fans of the two finalists will be asked to pay the highest ticket prices in the history of the Champions League final.

As ever, there will be no concessions.

Which FA Cup winner was determined not to miss Arsenal's clash with Bayern... even though his wife is soon to give birth?

It seems nothing can stop James McArthur from getting his football fix.

The Wigan midfielder was determined not to miss Arsenal's crunch Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday night... despite the fact he is in hospital with his wife who is soon to give birth!

Sharing a photo of his partner in a hospital bed with a television switched on nearby, McArthur tweeted: 'Misses (sic) is getting induced and hopefully having baby tonight but I ain't missing the footy.'

Priorities: James McArthur insisted there was no way he was missing Arsenal's Champions League clash despite the fact his partner is close to giving birth

Cup heroics: McArthur (left) holds aloft the FA Cup following Wigan's dramatic final win over Man City last May

Knowing all about knockout football having won the FA Cup with Wigan last season, there was no way McArthur was going to miss the Gunners' last 16 match with the German champions and made sure he had a prime seat in front of the TV.

The 26-year-old Scotland international was committed to the game on Tuesday too, helping the Latics to a 2-0 victory over Barnsley in the Championship.

Many football fans would argue McArthur has his priorities straight, although his wife would surely disagree.

Whatever the outcome at the Emirates, McArthur will have reason to celebrate.

Bayern fans take dig at Germany star Ozil with controversial 'Gay Gunners' banner before Euro tie

Bayern Munich could find themselves in trouble with UEFA after a small section of supporters unveiled a homophobic banner before the second leg of their Champions League clash with Arsenal.

The banner, which featured the words 'Gay Gunners' and an animation of midfielder Mesut Ozil in front of the club's signature cannon, was unfurled ahead of kick-off at the Allianz Arena.

Despite his position as a regular member of Joachim Low's Germany squad, Ozil's recent form for Arsene Wenger's side has been in questioned in his home country as fans and the media look ahead to this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Despite the small size of the banner, the Bundesliga champions could well find themselves on the end of a hefty fine if previous incidents are anything to go by.

UEFA fined Celtic £42,000 in December after a large section of fans displayed an 'illicit banner' in their Champions League group stage game against AC Milan at Celtic Park.

On the banner, images of William Wallace and Bobby Sands were shown alongside the message: 'The terrorist or the dreamer? The savage or the brave? Depends whose vote you are trying to catch or whose face you’re trying to save.'

The Scottish champions were also on the receiving end of banner controversy this season when they visited Holland to face Ajax in October.

Fans of the Dutch club displayed a sectarian message in the same area of the ground as flags pertaining to the 'F-Side' hooligan group of supporters.

Ajax, who won the game 1-0 thanks to Lasse Schone's 50th-minute goal, were later fined £21,000 by UEFA.

CSKA Moscow, who had their ground partially closed for their group stage clash with Bayern Munich in November after Manchester City's Yaya Toure was subjected to racist abuse a month earlier, will play their next European match behind closed doors.

The Russian club were found guilty of displaying 'racist and far-right symbols' during their Champions League away game against Viktoria Plzen in December, prompting UEFA to take further action.

As they finished bottom of Group D, CSKA's stadium closure will take place during their next European campaign.

Gila nih city..masih bisa aja ngimbangi permainan Barcelona,,sekalipun zabaleta di kartu merah di menit 78,,masih bisa aja nyamain kedudukan lewat kompany,,sekalipun rada-rada berbau offside juga sih golnya
Untungnya Barcelona segera merespon lewat gol Dani Alves..

Barcelona menuju perempat final..

UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against Bayern after fans mock Ozil with controversial 'Gay Gunners' banner

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Bayern Munich after their fans unveiled a controversial 'Gay Gunners' banner on Tuesday night.

Bayern reached the quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw sent the German giants through 3-1 on aggregate.

Atletico Harus Bayar Rp 95 Miliar agar Courtois Bermain Lawan Chelsea

AFP PHOTO / OLGA MALTSEVA
Kiper Chelsea yang sedang dipinjam Atletico Madrid, Thibaut Courtois.
Kamis, 10 April 2014 | 17:56 WIB
