Default Re: Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek urged to leave Manchester United in January in order to boost Euro 2020 hopes by Ajax and Holland legend Ronald de Boer... who claims the midfielder's playing style is better suited to Spain than England

* Donny van de Beek has started two league games since his £40m summer move
* The Manchester United midfielder is set to feature for Holland at Euro 2020
* Ajax legend Ronald de Boer claims Van de Beek should consider quitting United
* De Boer also believes Van de Beek is better suited to life in Spain than in England

Donny van de Beek should consider leaving Manchester United in January to save his European Championship hopes, according to Dutch legend Ronald de Boer.

Van de Beek is yet to hit the ground running at Old Trafford, starting just two Premier League matches and three Champions League matches all season since his £40million transfer from Ajax over the summer.

The 23-year-old's latest appearance was a two-minute cameo in United's 2-0 semi-final defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup - a competition where Van de Beek had started in every previous round.

Ronald De Boer claims Donny van de Beek should consider quitting Man United. Van De Beek has started just two Premier League games since his £40million move from Ajax

Ajax legend de Boer, who works as a youth coach for the Dutch top-flight giants, claims the Dutch midfielder could seek a January exit from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side if his game time does not improve.

De Boer told Dutch news outlet AD: 'The European Championship is coming, he will undoubtedly want to be there. Maybe it would be good for him to discuss with the club exactly what they want with him.

'If the view on playing time does not improve, he may have to declare that he should be loaned or even sold.'

The 23-year-old is set to feature in this summer's European Championships for Holland. De Boer also claims Van de Beek's playing style is better suited to Spain than England

Van de Beek arrived in Manchester with a lot of promise after scoring ten goals and registering eleven assists for Ajax last season.

But the Dutchman has scored just once for Solskjaer's side - on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace back in September - since his big-money move from Holland.

De Boer claims a potential reason why Van de Beek has yet to find his feet in England is due to his playing style - which is more suited to LaLiga in Spain, according to the Ajax youth coach.

He added: 'I think his playing style is better suited to the Spanish league than to the English.

'In the Premier League it is often hit and run, in Spain more combination football is played. Donny is physically fine. But he comes into his own better in the Ajax game.'

De Boer, however, does not believe that Van de Beek is a big-money Premier League flop and claims the young midfielder can turn his game around in Manchester.

He added: 'You have to be lucky every now and then. Of course it doesn't look great now, but with a great performance it can suddenly change completely.

'We also don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Perhaps they have made certain agreements with his transfer, they will get him ready for next year this season. That always remains a bit of a guess.'

Semoga Donny tetap semangat yaa!

Gary Neville claims Manchester United signed £40m midfielder Donny van de Beek because they expected Paul Pogba to leave and admits: 'I still can't get my head around it'

* Gary Neville claims Donny Van de Beek came in because Paul Pogba was leaving
* Van de Beek joined Manchester United for £40million but has barely featured
* Neville said he still believed United are 'preparing' for a departure in the summer

Gary Neville has admitted he is baffled by Manchester United's decision to pay £40million for midfielder Donny Van de Beek, suggesting he was bought because Paul Pogba was expected to leave.

Pogba has experienced something of a revival in the last few matches, with some pointing to his improved form coming after the remarkable intervention from his agent Mina Raiola in December, who claimed his United career was 'over'.

But Neville said Pogba's future at Old Trafford remains in the balance, and pointed to the arrival of Van de Beek - who has barely featured at Old Trafford - as a sign of possible changes to come.

'It's interesting, something's happened – the (Donny) Van de Beek signing's an interesting one – I still can't get my head around it,' Neville said on Sky Sports on Sunday ahead of the Liverpool v Manchester United game.

'It's almost as if that signing was sort of done in anticipation of one of the others leaving because Van de Beek has just sat on the bench for the last few months and he cost £40million.

'I think that Manchester United are preparing for someone leaving. Maybe Pogba could leave, so they've already got Van de Beek in to maybe assume that role.'

Van De Beek has hardly been seen since his much-vaunted signing from Ajax in the summer.

Gary Neville believes Donny Van de Beek was signed because Paul Pogba was set to leave. Van de Beek (top right) has made only two starts in the Premier League so far this season. Neville added that Pogba deserved to be in the United team now based on his current form

He has started only two Premier League games and scored just once in the opening game of the season in September. The 23-year-old has not featured at all in the league since United's 6-2 thrashing of Leeds on 20 December.

Neville conceded, however, that Pogba was in the team on merit given his current form.

'I think now, the way Paul Pogba's playing and the way Manchester United's season is going, there's no one going to come in in January and buy Paul Pogba; I don't think Manchester United would let him go.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has defended critics of Van de Beek and his lack of game time, and assured him he has a future in Manchester.

'There are so many examples of players needing a little bit of time, quality players, we have many examples ourselves and there are other clubs with examples and sometimes it takes time,' Solskjaer said about the Dutchman.

'You don't expect people who care for him to be quiet at times, especially when they want the best for them. I've spoken to him and made him aware of how much we rate him.'

Donny van de Beek has 'plenty of other clubs' out there if he fails to make the grade at Old Trafford but should try to adapt to Premier League, claims ex-Manchester United coach

* Donny van de Beek has struggled for playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Former Ajax midfielder was brought in for £40m but is not in first team plans
* Ex-Manchester United goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek says 'wait and see'
*He thinks there will be clubs interested but van de Beek should stick it out

Donny van de Beek was brought in for £40million from Ajax but has struggled to nail down a place in Manchester United's first team.

The Dutchman is still settling in and adapting to life in the Premier League but there remain doubts over his ability to make it in the English top flight.

Former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek believes there will be multiple suitors for the midfielder if he cannot establish himself at Old Trafford.

Donny van de Beek has found opportunities hard to come by at Manchester United. Former United goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek says his Dutch compatriot has plenty of options

'It is a big transition, from the Eredivisie to the Premier League,' he told Voetbal International.

'Not only the speed of action, but also physically. It is Ajax-Feyenoord in England every week, where you also have to win every match at United.'

Hoek, who worked under Louis van Gaal at United, went on to add that a fair judgment could only be made after a year.

'But it is not as easy there as in some matches in the Netherlands. I think that we can only actually assess Van de Beek when we are one year later', he said.

Van de Beek has had to settle for minutes in cup games or coming off the bench

'Perhaps this is the run-up to a fantastic career for Van de Beek in Manchester. If not, there will be plenty of other clubs for him. For now I would say: wait and see.'

The 23-year-old only made his first start for United in November and has fallen down the pecking order with Paul Pogba's return to form.

Fred and Scott McTominay have also regularly been deployed in the heart of midfield by Solskjaer this term with Bruno Fernandes the first name on the team sheet every week.

Gary Neville recently admitted he could not understand the logic in United signing Van de Beek. He told Sky Sports: 'It's interesting, something's happened – the (Donny) Van de Beek signing's an interesting one – I still can't get my head around it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'promised Donny van de Beek more game time at Manchester United in talks over his future last week' and insisted the midfielder would not be sold or loaned out during the January window

* Donny van de Beek has struggled for game time since £40m move last summer
* Holland midfielder has started only two Premier League matches for Man United
* But he has been reportedly assured he will receive greater opportunities
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had chat with Van de Beek before Fulham game last week
* A January move away from United, either on loan or permanently, is ruled out

Donny van de Beek 'has been assured by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he will get more game time as the season progresses' with Manchester United ruling out a January move for the Dutchman.

The midfielder, bought for £40million from Ajax last summer, has started just two Premier League games for United and completed only four matches in all competitions so far.

Van de Beek has spent most of his time warming the bench - he has been an unused substitute in United's last six league games - because of the form of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

Donny van de Beek has struggled for game time since his arrival at Manchester United. The Dutch midfielder made a rare start in United's 3-2 victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup

But, according to The Athletic, Van de Beek talked with Solskjaer ahead of United's win at Fulham last week and has been assured his opportunity will come.

The short conversation left Van de Beek confident he will be more involved between now and the end of the season with United chasing not only their first league title since 2013 but also silverware in the FA Cup and the Europa League.

A move away from Old Trafford, either on loan or permanently, for a player contracted until 2025, in the remaining days of the January window has been ruled out.

He was handed a rare start in United's 3-2 FA Cup fourth-round win over Liverpool on Sunday evening but struggled to make much of an impact during 66 minutes on the pitch.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held positive talks with Van de Beek last week and assured the midfielder he would receive more opportunities later in the season. A January move away for Van de Beek, either on loan or permanently, has been ruled out

Van de Beek was replaced by Fernandes, who fired home the free-kick that settled an entertaining cup tie.

The midfielder will expect more game time next season and is likely to receive it if Pogba, whose contract expires in 2022, leaves Old Trafford.

United, who sit two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, return to action at home to Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

After scoring United's winner from a free-kick, Fernandes admitted he felt sympathy for Van de Beek.

'Donny had a great game,' he told MUTV after the match. 'Playing in the position I play, watching him he moves really good and played really well.

'It's important for us. If I was in the position of Donny I would not be happy at all but the most important is doing what he does today, coming in and helping the team.

'We have a really good squad and we have options. If you look at the bench and the first XI today and the ones at home we have a really good squad.

'It will not be a problem if we change the team or someone is tired because we have really good players.'

'If I was him I wouldn't be happy at all': Bruno Fernandes admits sympathy for Manchester United's struggling midfielder Donny van de Beek over his lack of game time

* Donny van de Beek has failed to establish himself in the Manchester United team
* He made a rare start on Sunday against Liverpool but was eventually replaced
* Bruno Fernandes admits he can understand why the midfielder is unhappy

Bruno Fernandes has admitted he can understand Donny van de Beek's unhappiness at Manchester United over his lack of playing time.

The £40million summer signing was handed just his 10th start of the season on Sunday as United dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup.

Van de Beek failed to have a significant impact on the match and was eventually hauled off in the 66th minute before United went on to claim a 3-2 victory.

Fernandes was the man who took his place in the second half and proved to be decisive as he scored a free-kick late on to help United progress.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had admitted on the eve of the game that Van de Beek was growing frustrated with his role at United and Fernandes admits he sympathises with the Holland star's situation.

'Donny had a great game,' he told MUTV after the match. 'Playing in the position I play, watching him he moves really good and played really well.

'It's important for us. If I was in the position of Donny I would not be happy at all but the most important is doing what he does today, coming in and helping the team.

'It will not be a problem if we change the team or someone is tired because we have really good players.'

Fernandes has been United's talisman since joining the club and now has scored 28 goals since his debut last February.

His winner on Sunday set up a fifth-round tie against West Ham, and Fernandes is determined to win silverware this season with United, who are also currently top of the Premier League table.

He added: 'They're all important competitions for us,' he said. 'We have to go in the same way whatever the competition.

'We play in them all to win. Everyone knows winning the league is more special but for us players, it's about winning trophies regardless and this is a trophy we want to win.'

Manchester United misfit Donny van de Beek is playing with 'FEAR and a lack of rhythm', says Jermaine Jenas as £40m man is hooked on 73 minutes after rare start against West Ham... before Scott McTominay hits extra-time winner in FA Cup fifth round

* Midfielder Donny van de Beek was handed a rare start by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* The Dutchman however was substituted for Manchester United after 73 minutes
* Van de Beek was replaced by Bruno Fernandes in the 1-0 win against West Ham
* And Jermaine Jenas sympathised with van de Beek and said he needed games

Donny van de Beek is 'playing with fear' and without any rhythm at Manchester United, according to Jermaine Jenas.

The £40million summer signing from Ajax was handed his eleventh start of the campaign across all competitions in the 1-0 victory against West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round on Tuesday night.

The Netherlands midfielder however has struggled to make an impact this season with just one goal and one assist from his 25 appearances, and was once again ineffective against David Moyes' men before being replaced by Bruno Fernandes on 73 minutes at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men went on to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition thanks to substitute Scott McTominay's clinical winner in the first half of extra time.

Donny van de Beek is 'playing with fear' at Manchester United, according to Jermaine Jenas. Van de Beek was handed his eleventh start of the season in the FA Cup tie against West Ham

But speaking on commentary for BBC Sport, Jenas sympathised with Van de Beek, 23, and believes he needs to play more regularly to start delivering better performances.

'That look on his face there I've just seen sums up unfortunately the way he's playing at the moment with a bit of fear and a lack of rhythm,' Jenas said, as van de Beek was replaced by midfield star Fernandes.

'I honestly don't think it's his fault. He's out there being professional, doing everything he possibly can.

Van De Beek again struggled to make an impact before being replaced by Bruno Fernandes. Jenas sympathised with the Dutchman and said he needed more time on the pitch. Van de Beek has struggled to displace Fernandes and Paul Pogba since joining from Ajax

'But when you don't have that run of games in your system or belief that you can go out there and afford to make mistakes you don't show the full version of who you are, and that creative streak which got him to the football club in the first place.'

Earlier on in the piece, Jenas saw glimpses of Van de Beek's quality after a passage of play in the first half but insisted he must not be shoehorned into the role usually occupied by Fernandes.

'It's a bit better from Donny van de Beek but it still feels like everything is taking a bit too long,' Jenas added.

'You have to be careful not to try and think Van de Beek can do what Bruno Fernandes can do. He's his own type of player.

'I think Van de Beek is still working out of what he is for Manchester United. I'd still like him to want the ball a bit more.

'Maybe have a shot instead of passing it back or passing it sideway. This United do not look for him, which is a bit of an issue.'

Van de Beek has started just two Premier League games this season, as well as three each in the Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup respectively.

The Dutchman has been unable to dislodge Fernandes and Paul Pogba - who has starred in recent months but who was sidelined with a thigh injury against the Hammers - since moving to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

kalau seperti ini terus menurut gw akan jadi pembelian gagal kesekian kalinya...
atau mending segera di tukar dengan De Ligt yang disana juga masih belum maksimal mungkin sesuai kebutuhan masing masing club

Donny van de Beek's confidence is shot just five months into his United career after Solskjaer snubs, McTominay's form and a Pogba resurgence... with claims team-mates 'don't trust him', can the £40m man find a way back at Old Trafford?

* Donny van de Beek played another ineffectual cameo role against West Ham
* The Dutchman's Manchester United career has yet to take off since £40m arrival
* Paul Pogba has rediscovered his form while Scott McTominay has flourished
* Van de Beek has drifted down the pecking order but Fred took time to settle

His face said it all. Just 73 minutes on the clock and his time was up. Donny van de Beek could not hide his disappointment. Another ineffectual cameo role from Manchester United's £40million summer signing.

Doubts over whether midfielder Van de Beek would fit in at United were cast prior to his arrival and five months down the line the same uncertainty exists.

The Dutchman's United career has yet to take off. He's been left waiting in the wings with his pathway to leaving a lasting impression on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side unclear.

Donny van de Beek's face said it all when he was substituted after 73 minutes on Tuesday. The midfielder, who joined for £40million on September 2 from Ajax, is yet to make an impact. His pathway to leaving a lasting impression on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side is unclear

The 23-year-old has played just 300 minutes in the Premier League this campaign as he's started just two top-flight games since United splashed the cash on the Ajax star.

Former United defender Gary Neville suggested Van de Beek was brought in because his old club expected Paul Pogba to depart but instead the World Cup winner has had a resurgence and become a key player for Solskjaer.

Not only has Pogba's revival proven to be an obstacle for Van de Beek but so have the brilliant displays by Scott McTominay in the middle of the park.

The Scotland international has really improved his game this season - perhaps spurred on by Van de Beek's presence - and scored the winner in the FA Cup fifth-round clash against West Ham after replacing Nemanja Matic when Van de Beek was hauled off for star man Bruno Fernandes.

Manager Solskjaer was full of praise for McTominay after the 24-year-old netted his seventh goal of the season - more than Pogba, Van de Beek, Fred and Matic combined - and his recent influential performances have made him undroppable.

Tuesday night's cup tie was a chance for Van de Beek to make his case for more game time but he looks a shadow of the player who dazzled for Ajax in recent years.

Paul Pogba's had a resurgence at United which hasn't helped Van de Beek's chances of playing

Van de Beek is a versatile midfielder, able to operate as a No 6, No 8 and No 10 and score and create goals but right now his confidence is shot and when he takes to the pitch there is no spark to his game.

Former Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas sympathised with the Holland international, insisting that it is hard to find form when playing a bit-part role.

'That look on his face there I've just seen sums up unfortunately the way he's playing at the moment with a bit of fear and a lack of rhythm,' Jenas said during BBC's coverage of the FA Cup clash when Van de Beek was substituted.

'I honestly don't think it's his fault. He's out there being professional, doing everything he possibly can.

'But when you don't have that run of games in your system or belief that you can go out there and afford to make mistakes you don't show the full version of who you are, and that creative streak which got him to the football club in the first place.'

While Scotland international Scott McTominay has been performing brilliantly in midfield

Van de Beek was one of Ajax's main protagonists after starring in the youth ranks and played virtually every game - notching 41 goals and supplying 34 assists in 175 appearances in the process.

There's no question who United's leading light is and how Van de Beek could have done with having at least a small portion of the impact Fernandes has had since making the switch to the Premier League giants.

Solskjaer does not have Van de Beek, who joined on a five-year deal on September 2, in his current plans but understands adapting to new surroundings takes time and has assured him he has a future at Old Trafford.

Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes is United's star man with Van de Beek out of favour

'There are so many examples of players needing a little bit of time, quality players, we have many examples ourselves and there are other clubs with examples and sometimes it takes time,' he said earlier this season.

'You don't expect people who care for him to be quiet at times, especially when they want the best for them. I've spoken to him and made him aware of how much we rate him.'

Van de Beek struggled to see the ball against the Hammers and former United striker Mark Hughes has claimed it's down to his United team-mates not having faith in him.

'You just sense… it looks like they don't trust him with the ball yet,' he told talkSPORT.

'When the likes of Fred and (Nemanja) Matic look up and they see Rashford, they see (Anthony) Martial, they see (Mason) Greenwood, who is still a young player but has great talent, it's like they defer to them, their first thought is to pass to them.'

United have been here before as Fred took time to settle but they are now reaping the rewards

But how does Van de Beek develop that trust when he is way down the pecking order?

It appears as though the Dutchman is going to have be patient and bide his time with his best opportunity for a run in the team likely to come if United fall victim to injuries in midfield areas as the hectic schedule of 2020-21 takes its toll.

United have been here before. Fred, who joined for £52m from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018, needed time to settle in Manchester but the waiting game has now paid off.

While Pogba, who is regularly linked with a move away from the club, could still leave. The Frenchman enters the final year of his contract in July and will hold talks over his future at the end of this campaign.

Van de Beek has the ability to turn things around and it's too early for him to exit stage left.
