Roy Keane 'in talks to become the next Azerbaijan manager' as Man United legend seeks return to management

* Roy Keane could become the next Azerbaijan manager according to reports
* The Manchester United legend is keen to get back into international coaching
* Keane may have to be persuaded to take the job despite the wealthy offer
* Azerbaijan have made the 48-year-old their first choice to lead them this year

Roy Keane is in talks to become the next Azerbaijan manager according to The Sun.

The Manchester United legend and now Sky Sports pundit is keen to get back into management after his departure from the Republic of Ireland set-up.

The terms offered by the wealthy state are reportedly attractive but Keane may have to be persuaded to take the job.

Azerbaijan have made the 48-year-old their first choice to lead them in the Nations League.

Roy Keane is in talks to become the next Azerbaijan manager according to The Sun

The nation have been promoted to Group C and have a chance of qualifying from that as they try to improve their reputation.

Azerbaijan are pushing for an answer in the next two days as their search for Nikola Jurcevic's successor accelerates.

Keane is known to be hot-headed as he demonstrated on Sky Sports after David de Gea made an error for Manchester United against Tottenham in his first game since the restart.

'I'm shocked at that goal, I've watched a lot of football over the years but I'm fuming there,' said Keane.

'I can't believe Shaw heading the ball up in the air. I'm staggered at Maguire. I'm sick to death of this goalkeeper.

'I would be fighting him at half time, I would be swinging punches. This is an established international goalkeeper.'

Roy Keane: Lihat Saja, Pemain-pemain MU Akan Khianati Ole
Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

'I don't see ANY leaders out there... a long, long way back for this club': Roy Keane fumes at Manchester United's performance in defeat by Arsenal - as he lays into Marcus Rashford's 'SHOCKING' body language

* Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday
* The Red Devils are still without a home league win this season after four games
* Roy Keane slammed United for the lack of leaders and being poor in front of goal
* Keane claimed the current crop of players are not showing Nobby Stiles' fight
* The ex-United captain also criticised Marcus Rashford for his body language

Roy Keane has slammed Manchester United following their dismal 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, providing an extensive list of problems which leaves the club a 'long way back'.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted a second-half penalty from a Paul Pogba foul to give the Gunners a well-deserved first away win at a top-six side since 2015.

Mikel Arteta's side dominated the match at Old Trafford, while United are still without a win at home in the Premier League this season following a painful loss to Crystal Palace, a 6-1 thrashing by Tottenham and a 0-0 draw with Chelsea prior to this.

Roy Keane slammed Manchester United's players after their 1-0 loss to Arsenal . United are still without a home league win season after being beaten by the Gunners at home

And former Manchester United captain Keane claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have gone backwards after good recent results, including a 5-0 win over RB Leipzig in midweek Champions League action.

Keane told Sky Sports: 'We spoke before the game about saying being on the front foot, being aggressive, you're the home team, and there were none of those things.

'On top of all that there was a lack of energy, enthusiasm, a real lack of quality and that really concerned me in the second half when they were getting in half decent positions and chasing the match but (there was) no quality. No composure.

'Some of the performances were really poor. Ole must be scratching his head.

'We kept talking after the Spurs game and whether they turned a corner (after that game). It's the longest corner ever.'

Keane criticised several areas of Manchester United's performance on Sunday evening but made an extraordinary verbal attack on Marcus Rashford, who has been receiving praise both on and off the pitch recently.

The United and England striker scored a hat-trick against Leipzig in midweek and also received an MBE this month for his free school meals activism.

Paul Pogba gave away the penalty and Keane claimed there were no United leaders on Sunday. Keane also criticised Marcus Rashford (middle) for his body language during the United defeat

The Irish midfielder said the striker was not showing the leadership required at Manchester United.

He added: 'I looked at Rashford closely today, who has had a lot of plaudits over the past few months and he's still a young man, but his body language was shocking, really shocking.

'He was shrugging his shoulders when things weren't going his way. You roll your sleeves up at Manchester United.

'(When) things aren't going your way, that's when you look at your leaders and characters.'

Keane also attacked Rashford's team-mates, saying there were no leaders on the Old Trafford pitch this weekend.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder referenced former player and 1966 World Cup winner Nobby Stiles, who passed away this week at the age of 78, as the right type of leader.

Keane said: 'I don't see any leaders out there (at United), right through the whole team from the experienced players.

'You are expected to roll sleeves up, that's what characters at Man United are about. Like Nobby Stiles, heart of a lion.

'Ole is in management, you have to trust the players because your job relies on the pitch. You're going to trust those players out there? God help us.

Keane claimed United are not showing the fight of Nobby Stiles, who passed away this week

'Part of football is what you do out of possession. United are not aggressive enough, they aren't hungry. I don't see it out there. I don't see guys I want to be in the trenches with. Guys you trust.

'I'm really worried for Manchester United. There's a real lack of quality and (there's) a long, long way back for this club.'

After Sunday's loss to Arsenal, Solskjaer's side lie 15th in the table after just two wins from six games this season.

The club lie five points behind the Gunners, who have moved up into the top-half of the Premier League, while United are also nine points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Roy Keane 'interested in returning to management' despite huge success as a TV pundit as he 'tells friends he's ready to get back involved' after stints at Sunderland, Ipswich and Ireland

* Roy Keane has reportedly told friends he is ready to get back into management
* The former Manchester United captain has not managed a club since 2011
* He had spells at Sunderland and Ipswich as well as several coaching roles
* The fiery Irishman has also become one of Sky Sports' leading pundits

Roy Keane is reportedly eyeing a return to management despite being one of Sky Sports' leading pundits.

The former Manchester United captain was last in the dugout as assistant to Martin O'Neill at Nottingham Forest in 2019 but has told friends he is desperate to get back into a coaching role, according to The Sun.

The fiery Irishman has had mixed success as a manager and has not taken charge of a club since leaving Ipswich in 2011.

He achieved promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland in 2007 and then kept the Mackems in the top flight the following season. A poor run of results saw him stand down from the job in 2008.

As well as his spells as Sunderland and Ipswich, Keane was coach to O'Neill at Aston Villa and the Republic of Ireland.

Since then, he has established himself as one of Sky Sport's main pundits with a reputation for being outspoken.

Ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane is reportedly eyeing a return to management. Keane had spells at Sunderland and Ipswich as well as coaching roles under Martin O'Neill. The Irishman has developed a budding bromance with fellow Sky pundit Micah Richards

However, more recently he has developed a budding bromance with Sportsmail's Micah Richards, with the latter even joking he was taking the ex-United man on a 'road trip'.

While Keane has regularly been critical of his former team, he was back at United's training ground to speak to the younger players about his experiences during his time at the club.

The Sun suggests his old side could offer him a route back into coaching but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has recently promoted Darren Fletcher to his first-team staff.

Keane is a regular visitor to the Class of 92's Salford City with the 49-year-old often taking in matches at the League Two club's Peninsula Stadium, although his former team-mates have never approached him to take charge of the club.

Ouch! Cerita Roy Keane Tonjok Chris Eagle di Latihan MU
Yanu Arifin - detikSport

"Saya ingat ketika Roy Keane meninju Chris Eagles sekali. Dia Eagles) hanyalah anak muda, cuma mau kebebasan.

Roy Keane becomes favourite to take over at Celtic as former Republic of Ireland mentor and Hoops boss Martin O'Neill hails his 'strong character' as perfect for the position

* Roy Keane has moved ahead of John Kennedy as favourite for the Celtic job
* Kennedy has stood in after Neil Lennon stepped down from the role in February
* Celtic have had a miserable season and surrendered the league title to Rangers
* Keane previously played for the club briefly after leaving Manchester United

Former Manchester United hardman Roy Keane has emerged as the new favourite to take over as manager of Celtic.

The Scottish giants are on the lookout for a new permanent boss after parting ways with Neil Lennon in February, following a sustained miserable run of form.

Celtic have missed out on a historic tenth consecutive title after Steven Gerrard's Rangers ran away with the division and are still yet to lose a single domestic game all season.

Roy Keane is tipped to become manager of Celtic as permanent replacement for Neil Lennon. Keane briefly turned out for Celtic as a player after leaving Manchester United in 2005

Now, Celtic are in line for a shake up and Keane is tipped to be handed the hotseat, according to the bookmakers.

Keane has overtaken current interim boss John Kennedy in the running and is now no better than 4/5 on with any bookmaker, making him a clear favourite.

The Irishman briefly pulled on the Celtic shirt during his playing days, making the switch to Scotland after calling time on his Manchester United career.

Martin O'Neill, who worked with Keane at Forest and the Republic of Ireland, has backed him

Keane headed to Glasgow following a now infamous falling out with manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but went on to make only 10 appearances for the club - scoring once and registering one assist.

Keane has managerial experience under his belt already, having taken solo charge during spells at Ipswich and Sunderland.

He was most recently part of the coaching staff at Aston Villa and former club Nottingham Forest as assistant manager, while has also amassed international experience with Martin O'Neill and the Republic of Ireland.

Speaking this week on the prospect of Keane going to Celtic, O'Neill - who remains a legend at Parkhead - insisted his former second in command has all the traits to succeed.

He told Go Radio: 'Is Roy Keane managerial material? Absolutely.

'I have worked with him and know him on an assistant basis. He has got an opinion, he knows the game inside out and is a strong, strong character.

'The argument would be then "does the modern player feel that he can be comfortable in those surroundings?". That is a decision for other people to make.

'But absolutely [he can adapt] I think sometimes there is a feeling here that anybody of a certain age or certain vintage has the word dinosaur attached to them.

'Roy has his own methods, it is there when he does his punditry work you can see that is the case. And I think strong characters at a football club would like that sort of management.'

Roy Keane has 'got the personality' to become Celtic manager, claims Martin O'Neill, as he backs his 'strong-willed' former Republic of Ireland assistant's ability to adapt and motivate players

* Roy Keane has been heavily linked with replacing Neil Lennon as Celtic manager
* Keane was Martin O'Neill's assistant with Ireland and at Nottingham Forest
* And O'Neill believes Keane has learnt a lot since retiring from playing in 2006
* He also backed his former assistant to adapt to the demands of the Scottish side

Roy Keane absolutely has the right mentality to become the new Celtic manager, according to Martin O'Neill.

Former Manchester United captain Keane, 49, has been heavily linked with replacing Neil Lennon at Celtic Park following his departure last month.

Keane was O'Neill's assistant on two occasions, between 2013 and 2018 for the Republic of Ireland before the pair joined forces again as No 1 and No 2 at Nottingham Forest in 2019.

And speaking to BBC Sport, the 69-year-old Northern Irishman believes Keane has learned plenty since he retired from the game in 2006 after a 13-game spell at Celtic, and believes he could adapt to the demands he would face in Scotland.

Roy Keane (right) is ready to become the new Celtic manager, according to Martin O'Neill (left). Keane, 49, has been heavily linked with replacing departed boss Neil Lennon at Celtic Park

'He's got the personality for a start,' O'Neill - who was also a highly successful manager at Celtic - told BBC Scotland Sportsound.

'He was a massive player, an iconic figure in the game, one of the best midfield players in the modern day Premier League. He led and cajoled Manchester United on for almost a decade.

'He's very strong-willed, and I know people then start to feel strong-willed people do not necessarily change or adapt. He has certainly got the capacity to do that - to motivate players, absolutely.

O'Neill worked with Keane with the Republic of Ireland and later Nottingham Forest. And O'Neill believes Keane has learnt a lot since retiring in 2006 following a spell with Celtic

'I worked with him at close hand. Sometimes in this game you get a reputation and that supersedes anything that you're trying to do. Roy Keane has learned a great deal in the intervening years.

'He was my assistant at Ireland and I know that's a totally different job, but has Roy Keane got the personality to manage at the very top? Absolutely.'

Keane's experience as boss is limited to managing Sunderland, where he won promotion to the Premier League but could not kick on from there, and Ipswich - who he left in 2011 - while he also had another four-month coaching stint at Aston Villa in 2014 under Paul Lambert.

He has recently become a hugely popular and outspoken pundit with ITV and Sky Sports.

In his 2014 autobiography The Second Half, Keane claimed he was offered the Celtic job that year, but was 'unimpressed' by the offer made.

'Celtic wanted me but they weren't showing how much they wanted me,' he said, before adding the contract offer 'failed to rock my boat'.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this week that former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has joined Keane in throwing his hat into the ring to succeed Lennon, with Eddie Howe and Thierry Henry also linked.

The 63-year-old Swiss coach was sacked by Dortmund in December after a run of poor domestic results.

Manchester United can 'FORGET' about a Premier League title challenge next season if they KEEP 34-year-old Edinson Cavani, claims Roy Keane... as former captain urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to 'put a marker down' and sign Jack Grealish or Harry Kane

* Roy Keane has urged Manchester United not to rely on Edinson Cavani next year
* The striker has been in fine form but his future at Old Trafford is still undecided
* Keane believes United can forget about winning the title with Cavani up front
* Pundit urged his former club to bring in either Harry Kane or Jack Grealish

Roy Keane believes Manchester United will not be able to mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season with Edinson Cavani as their first-choice striker.

The Uruguayan has impressed at Old Trafford this season, and received huge praise for his performance in United's 6-2 win over Roma midweek as he scored twice and assisted another two goals.

Cavani arrived last summer on a 12-month contract, but there is the option to extend for a further year and many believe the striker has warranted an extension.

Roy Keane has urged Manchester United not to rely on Edinson Cavani going into next season. The Uruguayan has been in fine form recently but his future at Old Trafford is yet to be decided. Cavani's contract runs out at the end of the season but many fans have called for an extension

However, Keane believes the striker is past his best and United should look elsewhere in the transfer window ahead of next season.

'I kind of hope in one sense they don't keep him, because then they might look and think we don't need to go and get another (striker),' Keane told SkySports.

'He's 34, if you're hanging your hat on Cavani next year to getting United back to winning league titles, forget about it.

'He'll be a back-up striker and he won't want to be a back-up striker, so that's why he's reluctant to sign a new contract and there's obviously family reasons behind it.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are in a strong position to finish second in the table this season, and after dismantling Roma they look certain to be in the Europa League final next month.

Keane wants his former club to make a marquee signing such as Harry Kane this summer

Looking ahead to next season, Keane urged his former club to make a marquee signing and take a major step towards a lasting title challenge.

'I go back to recruitment at United, certainly going forward they need to go and make a big, big signing, whether it be a [Harry] Kane or a [Jack] Grealish - put a marker down, Keane said.

'Okay, they need another centre-half, but I still think at the top end of the pitch, when you look at some of the games this year that they've drawn, they've lacked that real bit of quality.

'They've got some brilliant players and I agree obviously that there's been progress. The worry for Man United, the next step for Man United is the biggest and the hardest one - and that is to go and get that league title.

'Liverpool were brilliant last year, Man City excellent this season but United are still a bit short.

'They've made progress and the worry for me now at United is that we're looking at United and saying they've made progress, but talk about the financial side, off the pitch at Man United as if the remit for Ole will be finishing in the top four, or finishing second, wanting to get into the Champions League.

'But being at Man United has to be about winning trophies.'
