GROENEN AGREES TO SIGN FOR MANCHESTER UNITED WOMEN Manchester United is delighted to announce that Jackie Groenen has signed a pre-contract agreement to join the club's women's team from the 2019/20 season. A further announcement will be made in due course. The 24-year-old also represents her country and has amassed 46 appearances for the Netherlands, scoring two goals, since making her senior debut in January 2016. Groenen was a key player in the 2017 UEFA Women's Championship, which the Oranje won as the host nation, and was named in the Team of the Tournament. Away from football, Jackie was also an elite judo athlete and won a series of youth championships across Europe. However, following an injury, she retired from judo in 2011 to focus solely on her football career. Groenen is set to become the first overseas signing for Manchester United Women, following a successful inaugural season in which all the members of Casey Stoney's Championship-winning squad were British. www.manutd.com |

Re: Manchester United Women's Team
STONEY: OSLO GAME WILL BE FANTASTIC PREPARATION Manchester United Women’s head coach Casey Stoney is looking forward to the challenge of facing Valerenga Women this summer. The Reds will meet the Norwegian side in a pre-season friendly at Intility Arena on 31 July, as part of the build-up to the club competing in the Women’s Super League for the first time. Casey has set her stall out early ahead of the new campaign and wants to face some tough sides in preparation for what will undoubtedly be a step up in class from the 2018/19 season. Valerenga will offer one of the sternest possible tests for United, given that the Oslo club will be midway though their league campaign when the sides meet in two months' time. “It’ll be pre-season for us, but we’ve got a few [players] going to the World Cup so we’ll have to manage them coming back into the environment and back into training,” said Stoney, when sitting alongside Valerenga manager Monica Knudsen in an interview for MUTV. “Obviously, Monica’s team will be starting the second period of their season and we won’t have played many games, so it will be a great test. I think it’s a fantastic game for us to prepare for the new season,” she added. Pre-season games often offer the first glimpses of new signings, and the game against Valerenga could allow United supporters the chance to see Jackie Groenen in a United shirt for the first time, subject to her transfer being completed in time. The Dutch international has signed a pre-contract announcement to join the Reds and Casey hinted that other names could follow. “I think, hopefully, we’ll be able to showcase some new players,” said the United Women boss. “They will be able to play some minutes and that’s what it’s about as well – getting minutes in the bank for those players, as well as it being an exhibition game for the fans. “We’re preparing for the new season so, like I say, it should be a really good game. It will mean we get a good test against great opposition.” After such an encouraging season in 2018/19, Stoney is looking forward to our first top-flight campaign next year. “We’ve got new challenges ahead and we don’t know yet who we’re going to face in our opening fixture [next season] – we could get tough opposition. “The league is a lot harder, every single game is going to be difficult so to have a game like this in pre-season against top players and a top team, it will just give our new players a chance to bed in. “It willl also be a bit of a barometer to see where we’re at and what we need to work on going into the season.” www.manutd.com |

MCMANUS AGREES TO SIGN FOR UNITED WOMEN Manchester United is delighted to announce that Abbie McManus has signed a pre-contract agreement to join the club from the 2019/20 season. A further announcement will be made in due course. ALL ABOUT ABBIE Born in Prestwich on 14 January 1993, Abbie McManus has enjoyed a successful career so far and will move across town to join United after spending more than a decade with Manchester City. Having played for Bury Girls as a teenager, the defender initially signed for the Blues in 2009 and spent four years with our neighbours before leaving them for a brief spell at Sheffield Ladies in 2013. When City became a fully professional outfit in 2014, Abbie returned to Manchester and would go on to make over 100 appearances, helping the club to win a Women's Super League title, two Women's FA Cups and two Continental Tyres Cups. McManus also played for Nick Cushing's side in two Champions League semi-finals. The defender’s domestic achievements have been rewarded with international recognition. Having represented England in the youth ranks, Abbie earned her first senior call-up in February 2018, filling in for the injured Steph Houghton at the SheBelieves Cup tournament in the United States. After being runners-up last year, Abbie and England got their hands on the SheBelieves Cup in March 2019 and ahead of this summer's FIFA Women's World Cup in France, the 26-year-old has been selected to be part of Phil Neville’s 23-player squad along with our captain, Alex Greenwood. www.manutd.com |

Re: Manchester United Women's Team
UNITED DUO BOW OUT OF WOMEN'S WORLD CUP Manchester United Women duo Kirsty Smith and Lizzie Arnot have been eliminated from the Women’s World Cup in France, following Scotland’s 3-3 draw with Argentina on Wednesday night. United full-back Smith played 86 minutes at the Parc des Princes and therefore featured in all three of Scotland’s games at the tournament, while Arnot was an unused substitute for the Scots in Paris. The manner of the exit will have been especially disappointing for Shelley Kerr’s side, given they were 3-0 up going into the final 20 minutes, only to surrender three late goals. VAR also played a huge part in Scotland’s fate when goalkeeper Lee Alexander saved an injury-time penalty but was adjudged to have stepped off her line before the spot-kick was taken. A retake was ordered and Argentina’s Florencia Bonsegundo converted at the second time of asking, to level the score and deny the Scots a vital victory The result means Smith, Arnot and their colleagues finished fourth in Group D, with one point from three matches. While it was a tough night for Scotland, England ensured they gained top spot in the same group with their third win of the tournament. Phil Neville’s Lionesses went into the game against Japan knowing they needed just a point to finish in pole position, but they went one better, winning 2-0 at Nice’s Allianz Riviera stadium. United pair Alex Greenwood and Abbie McManus, who had featured in both of the previous World Cup matches, were rested for the final group fixture. Manchester City striker Ellen White bagged both goals on Wednesday, taking her tally for the tournament up to three, as the Lionesses maintained their 100 per cent record in France. The victory means England will meet one of the best third-placed sides in the last 16 - either China (Group B), Cameroon or New Zealand (Group E), or Chile or Thailand (Group F). The knock-out phase of the competition begins on Saturday, with England in action on Sunday afternoon (16:30 BST kick-off). www.manutd.com |

Ternyata Alex Greenwood dilepas permanen...
GREENWOOD COMPLETES TRANSFER TO LYON Manchester United can confirm that our women's team captain Alex Greenwood has completed a move to Lyon. The England international full-back wore the armband during our inaugural season under Casey Stoney, as we gained promotion to the Women's Super League by winning the FA Women's Championship title. Greenwood made 27 appearances, 26 as a starter, and scored five goals in all competitions during 2018/19. Everyone at the club would like to thank Alex for her efforts and wish her the best of luck for the future. www.manutd.com |
