Jakarta - Salah satu sosok yang tampil menonjol di laga peringatan 20 tahun treble Manchester United adalah Jaap Stam. Mantan bek itu masih tangguh di usia 46 tahun.

Stam turun sebagai starter saat skuat legenda MU menghadapi Bayern Munich, Minggu (26/5/2019), yang jadi peringatan final Liga Champions 1999 silam. Dia bersama Ronny Johnsen di tengah diapit Gary Neville dan Denis Irwin dalam pertahanan empat bek.

Jika David Beckham memesona penonton di Old Trafford lewat umpan-umpan silangnya yang masih oke punya, plus gol solo run yang memastikan MU menang 5-0, Stam unjuk gigi dengan caranya sendiri. Mantan bek yang kini berusia 46 tahun itu masih garang menghalau serangan.

Di salah satu momen, misalnya, Stam tanpa ragu-ragu menerjang Ivica Olic yang bersiap melepaskan tembakan dari depan kotak penalti. Tak ayal Olic langsung tersungkur menghadapi tekel keras pria Belanda tersebut.

Dalam kesempatan lain, Stam membuktikan dirinya tak kenal kompromi ketika mengganjal Stefan Effenberg tak jauh dari kotak penalti. Karena tekel itu telat, tentu saja wasit menghadiahkan pelanggaran untuk Bayern.

Tapi salah satu yang paling membuat riuh Old Trafford adalah saat Stam sendirian membendung serangan legenda Bayern. Mulanya Stam dengan cerdik menguasai bola dengan gerakan memutar, lalu mempertahankannya dengan tubuh besarnya hingga membuat lawan tumbang.

Ia dengan tenang melepaskan diri dari tekanan lewat umpan sederhana ke rekan. Fans MU bahkan membandingkan aksi tangguh Stam itu dengan dua bek tengah 'Setan Merah' saat ini, Chris Smalling dan Phil Jones.

Stam sendiri saat ini berkarier sebagai pelatih di Liga Belanda, akan menangani Feyenoord mulai musim depan. Sebelumnya ia melatih PEC Zwolle dan membawa tim finis di posisi 13 dari 18 klub.

Kisah Rekrutan Teranyar Liverpool dengan Jaap Stam yang 'Kejam'



TRIBUNNEWS.COM - Mantan pemain Manchester United, Jaap Stam, punya cerita soal perkembangan pemain yang baru saja dibeli Liverpool, Sepp van den Berg.

Rekrutan pertama Liverpool musim panas ini datang dari Liga Belanda.

Sepp van den Berg direkrut Liverpool dari klub Eredivisie, PEC Zwolle, dengan mahar 1,3 juta pound yang bisa bertambah hingga 4,4 juta pound.

Liverpool mengalahkan banyak tim-tim Eropa seperti Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven, Sampdoria, hingga Bayern Muenchen untuk mendatangkan Van den Berg.

Musim lalu di Liga Belanda, pemain yang masih berusia 17 tahun ini bermain dalam 15 laga bersama tim utama.

Meski begitu, 11 dari laga tersebut terjadi pada awal musim saat PEC Zwolle masih dilatih John van 't Schip.

Van 't Schip kemudian dipecat pada bulan Desember dan digantikan mantan pemain Manchester United, Jaap Stam.

Dalam era kepelatihan Jaap Stam ini kemudian Sepp van den Berg jarang bermain, hal yang dilakukan untuk kebaikan sang pemain.

Hal ini diungkapkan oleh Johan Inan, jurnalis media Belanda, De Stentor, seperti dilansir BolaSport.com.

"Jaap Stam datang di bulan Desember dan pada Januari ia menaruh Sepp di tim cadangan selama seminggu," ujar Inan.

"Hal ini agar Sepp bekerja lebih keras, lebih agresif, dan memberikan segalanya saat latihan."

"Stam beberapa kali berbicara dengannya, berlatih berdua usai sesi latihan selesai, tetapi sesunggunya Stam hanya melihat sedikit perkembangan dari Sepp."

Inan mengungkapkan bahwa Stam melihat talenta yang dimiliki Van den Berg, tetapi sang pemain belum memiliki mental yang kuat dan semangat untuk jadi yang terbaik.

"Pada akhir musim Sepp bermain beberapa kali (4 kali), tetapi itu karena ada krisis cedera bukan karena perkembangan yang dimiliki Sepp."

"Stam melihat ada talenta tetapi masih ragu apakah Sepp bisa mengambil itu semua," tutur Inan.

Van den Berg memang sudah menjalani debut di Liga Belanda saat usianya masih 16 tahun. Ia juga menjadi pemain termuda yang mencapai 10 laga Liga Belanda.

"Yang membuat Sepp unik adalah saat Anda melihat dia bermain, Anda tak akan percaya ia masih 17 tahun karena permainannya tampak dewasa."

"Tentu saja secara fisik dia masih perlu banyak berkembang dan saya yakin ia akan jadi semakin kuat di Inggris," tutur Inan.

"Secara mental ia harus segera berkembang, itu adalah bagian terlemah dari dirinya."

Laporan tersebut mengatakan bahwa Van den Berg kemungkinan akan bisa berkembang pesat saat bergabung dengan Liverpool.

Salah satunya karena ia akan memiliki role model yang sama-sama dari Belanda dalam diri Virgil van Dijk.

Keduanya sama-sama berposisi sebagai bek tengah, bahkan Van den Berg kerap diberi julukan Baby van Dijk.

Umumkan Jaap Stam Jadi Pelatih, Klub MLS Ini Salah Pasang Foto

Cincinnati - Kisah lucu terjadi pada FC Cincinnati. Klub Major League Soccer (MLS) itu salah memasang foto saat mengumumkan pelatih baru mereka. Kok bisa?

Ceritanya, mereka baru saja meresmikan Jaap Stam sebagai pelatih baru pada Kamis (21/5/2020) waktu setempat. Eks bek Manchester United, Lazio, dan AC Milan itu diberi kontrak 1,5 tahun.

Pengumuman pun dibuat di Twitter, lengkap dengan foto 'Stam'. Namun ternyata foto yang diambil salah.

Diberitakan ESPN, alih-alih memasang foto Stam, Cincinnati malah menggunakan foto pelatih tim akademi Ajax Amsterdam, Tinus van Teunerbroek. Kebetulan, keduanya memang sama-sama dari Belanda dan berkepala plontos.

Kesalahan itu memancing reaksi publik. Untungnya, Cincinnati segera menyadari kekeliruan mereka dan langsung menghapus cuitan tersebut, meski warganet sudah berhasil menyimpan bukti kesalahan mereka.



Kemudian, mereka membuat pengumuman yang baru, kali ini dengan foto Stam yang asli.



"Mari bersama-sama menyambut pelatih baru kami yang sebenarnya, Jaap Stam. #FCCincy ," cuit Cincinnati sambil menjadikan kesalahan mereka sebagai gurauan.

Cincinnati merupakan pendatang baru di MLS. Mereka baru bertanding di kompetisi tertinggi di Amerika Serikat itu pada musim lalu, setelah mendapat lisensi franchise pada 2018.

"Kami senang memiliki Jaap Stam sebagai FC Cincinnati," ujar General Manager klub tersebut, Gerard Nijkamp.

"Dia punya latar belakang yang bagus dengan bermain di klub-klub hebat di dunia dan sebagai pelatih telah membuktikan diri bisa memandu tim melalui periode transisi," sambungnya.

Jaap Stam has been sacked as manager of Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati after a run of just one win in 16 matches.

The Dutch manager, who had stints at Championship club Reading and Eredivisie side Feyenoord, had taken Cincinnati to second-bottom of the Eastern Conference table.

Stam's last match was a 4-2 defeat to DC United which saw them go three goals down in 41 minutes, despite a late fightback from Cincinnati who scored twice in the final ten minutes.

FC Cincinnati President Jeff Berding told the club's website: 'After a great deal of deliberation, the club has made the decision to now move to the future with Jaap no longer serving as Head Coach.

Stam had been in charge of Cincinnati since May 2020 and guided them to a 14th-placed finish in the Eastern Conference, eight points off the Play-Offs, and a 26th-placed spot overall.

His first half-season ended at the club with a run of just one win in 11 games, but was still trusted to take on the reigns for the coming season.

The current MLS season saw Stam's Cincinnati start by failing to win their first four games of the league season but a run of three wins in five eased the pressure on the Dutchman.

But the club's only victory since the start of July has been a 2-0 win over bottom club Toronto on September 11.

Former Manchester United defender Stam's only role in England was a two-year spell at Reading in the Championship, taking the Royals to the second tier play-offs in his first season in charge, though they were beaten by Huddersfield in the Wembley final.

He was sacked in March 2018 after a run of one win in 18 league matches left the Royals 20th in the Championship table.

Ten Hag - who has won the Eredivisie twice with Ajax - is regarded as one of the leading candidates to take over from Ralf Rangnick, while Paris Saint-Germain's boss Mauricio Pochettino has also been heavily linked with the job.

Former Manchester United defender Stam thinks a move to the Premier League will propel Ten Hag's career but warns the 52-year-old of the job that is in hand.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italy, via Tuttomercatoweb, Stam said: ‘Ten Hag is doing very well at Ajax; he makes the team a difficult opponent for everyone in Europe and Holland.

‘He is very good at showing the players what to do and also at improving individual players. At Ajax, he obviously has the finances to grow the team with young players.

‘For him, Man United would be another thing compared to what he is experiencing in Holland. He has to take this step forward in his career.’

Speaking at the situation at his former club, Stam said: 'Solskjaer has done a good job to bring the club back to the top five but lacks the extra quality to get back to winning ways. Rangnick came in, and some players struggled to adapt,’ continued Stam.

‘Ronaldo didn’t play in the derby, then scored three goals against Tottenham. It’s always difficult to understand what goes on in a dressing room, but Ronaldo showed his strength.

‘You have to involve someone like him in decisions; you have to talk to him. He’s fundamental for the locker room; he helps you raise the level of the team.

‘At Man United, they don’t always play well, they should dominate games more, and in my opinion, I think they should do more. I hope the club will make better choices next season; they need to get back to the top.’

Jaap Stam has backed his Dutch compatriot Erik ten Hag to prosper at Manchester United - but only if he is fully supported in the transfer market.

The Old Trafford club have been in decline for almost a decade and Ten Hag will have his work cut out to restore them to former glories.

He has already identified a number of summer transfer targets - including the £69million-valued Barcelona and Holland midfielder Frenkie de Jong - with United's hierarchy working hard to bring them in.

And former United defender Stam, who won the Treble under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999, has tipped Ten Hag for success.

He told The Guardian: 'We all know what he can do and what he has done over in Holland with Ajax. Hopefully he can do the same now with United.

'Obviously, there are certain things that will need to be there for him to help him, maybe in terms of different players and personnel. But I think he's done a good job in Holland.'

He added: 'In Holland, we always say that every player in every position needs to be able to play football.

'So a centre-back needs to be able to dribble forward, to be the extra man in midfield, to have that pass. We try to educate players to be able to do everything.

'At United, one of Fergie's qualities was bringing players in of a certain ability who could do things well in their position; then if they go well together, you've got a chance of doing very well.

'He got the right players for the right positions.'
