Chile manager confirms Alexis Sanchez could miss THREE MONTHS with an ankle injury in blow to Inter Milan's Serie A title hopes

* Alexis Sanchez sustained the injury for Chile against Colombia on Saturday
* The Inter Milan forward was substituted late on with an ankle problem
* Sanchez may require surgery on the injury and could be out until the new year
* The Chilean scored and was sent off on his first start for Antonio Conte's side

Chile manager Reinaldo Rueda confirmed Alexis Sanchez could miss up to three months through an injury sustained on international duty.

Sanchez, who is on-loan at Inter from Manchester United, injured the tendons in his left ankle late on during a feisty friendly against Colombia on Saturday.

And now it looks as though the 30-year-old could be out for 'two or three months', should Inter decide to go ahead with surgery on the injury.

Alexis Sanchez clutches his left ankle during the closing moments of the Colombia game. Sanchez goes down under the challenge of Colombia and Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado

Speaking ahead of Chile's friendly against Guinea tomorrow, Rudea said: 'We won't have Sanchez for this game.

'Should he undergo surgery with Inter, for two or three more months [he will be out].

'It's a shame, he was starting to play with his club, he scored two goals and played in the Champions League.

'We have to wait, the next few hours will be crucial as we will know what decision Inter will make. For us he is Alexis Sanchez, for Inter he is one of their players.'

The forward, who was surplus to requirements to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and United, scored and was sent off in a lively first start for Antonio Conte's Inter last month.

That meant he missed the 2-1 defeat at home to title rivals Juventus last week, and it looks like Conte will have to cope without the Chilean for the next few months as well.

Sanchez's lack of form is in contrast to fellow former United forward Romelu Lukaku, who has made a decent start with three goals in seven Serie A appearances.

Alexis Sanchez to remain at Inter Milan despite dislocated ankle as there is no release clause on his Manchester United loan... with forward flying to Barcelona to have injury assessed

* Alexis Sanchez dislocated his left ankle on Saturday while playing for Chile
* The forward could be out of action until the New Year if he requires surgery
* He is flying to Barcelona on Wednesday to be assessed by Dr Ramon Cugat

Alexis Sanchez will remain on loan to Inter Milan from Manchester United despite dislocating his left ankle on international duty with Chile.

Sanchez could be out of action until the New Year if he requires surgery, but United sources have confirmed there is no release clause in the deal that saw him move to Italy for the rest of the season.

Inter are contributing roughly half of Sanchez's £300,000-a-week basic wage and the Serie A club will have to continue paying their share whether he is fit or not.

Alexis Sanchez will remain at Inter Milan despite his injury due to no release clause on his loan. He dislocated his left ankle while on international duty for Chile against Colombia on Saturday

The 30-year-old winger made just four appearances for Inter totalling 129 minutes before he dislocated the ankle and damaged tendons in Chile's goalless draw with Colombia at the weekend.

Sanchez will fly to Barcelona on Wednesday to be assessed by Dr Ramon Cugat, the renowned surgeon used by Manchester City who will decide if the player needs an operation.

United and Inter will continue to liaise over the treatment for Sanchez who is due to return to Old Trafford in June with two years remaining on his contract.

Inter confirmed the extent of the injury in a statement, saying: 'Alexis Sanchez underwent medical tests earlier this morning at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano. Results revealed a joint dislocation in his left ankle which has caused damage to the peroneus longus tendon.

'The player will meet for further consultations with Professor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona on Wednesday, where they will seek to reach a decision on whether surgical intervention is necessary.'

Inter Milan's Alexis Sanchez has successful surgery on ankle injury he sustained while on international duty and he 'could be out for 12 weeks'

* Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez has undergone successful surgery on ankle

* Inter did not put timescale on return but reports in Italy have suggested 12 weeks

Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez has undergone successful surgery on his injured ankle.

The Chilean, on loan at the Serie A club from Manchester United, was diagnosed with a dislocated ankle and tendon damage on Tuesday after sustaining the injury on international duty.

Inter have now confirmed the 30-year-old travelled to Barcelona and had surgery on his left ankle on Wednesday afternoon.

An Inter statement on their official website read: 'Alexis Sanchez was in Barcelona this morning for consultation with Dr Ramon Cugat.

'The visit confirmed the diagnosis of the Inter medical staff and the decision was made to proceed with surgery on the left ankle.

'The operation was performed in the afternoon on the peroneus longus tendon and it went exactly as planned.'

Inter did not put a timescale on Sanchez's recovery but reports in Italy have suggested 12 weeks.

Sanchez joined Inter on a season-long loan in August after failing to impress at Old Trafford and has scored once in four appearances for the Italian outfit.

His solitary goal came in a 3-1 win at Sampdoria last month before he was sent off in the same game for a second yellow card.

Alexis Sanchez ‘took home £5m in performance-related bonuses at Manchester United last year’, despite abysmal form that left him with two goals from 27 appearances

* Alexis Sanchez has underwhelmed since joining United on a free transfer in 2017
* He was given £400,000 a week wages, but scored just five goals in 45 games
* His shot at redemption last season saw him score two in 27 as he was frozen out
* It has been reported that he made the equivalent of £100,000 a week last year
* Sanchez moved on loan to Inter Milan this season but has suffered an ankle blow

Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez collected £5million from bonuses at Old Trafford last season despite a dismal campaign that score him score just twice in 27 appearances.

The Chilean has scored only five goals in 45 games since his free transfer from Arsenal in the January transfer window of the 2017/18, despite being given a lucrative pay packet of £400,000 a week.

The midfielder initially struggled to make an immediate impact after his move from north London, but hopes were high that he would recapture his excellent form from his time with the Gunners in 2018/19.

Sanchez took home £4,920,011 from performance bonuses last year despite scoring just twice. Hopes were high for Sanchez at Old Trafford, but he could not find his goal-scoring rhythm

But the player was underwhelming once again, scoring one goal in the league albeit with three assists, and another strike in the FA Cup.

And now the Sun has reported that Sanchez managed to rake in £4,920,011 - the equivalent of £100,000 a week - on top of his base salary from performance related bonuses for the campaign.

That works out at roughly £1m per goal scored for the Red Devils, a statistic that will leave United fans scratching their heads after so much optimism following his move from Arsenal nearly two years ago.

The 30-year-old was Arsenal's talisman throughout his time with the club, with 80 goals from 166 appearances as he led the Gunners to two FA Cup triumphs.

His consistency saw him take home the club's player of the season award on two occasions and he finished the 2016/17 Premier League season with 24 strikes.

The former Barcelona star's fall from grace saw him fall out of favour with both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amid rumours he was less than impressive in training, and now he has moved to Inter Milan on loan in an attempt to resurrect his once-thriving career.

But he has been dealt yet another set back after suffering an ankle blow last week during international duty for Chile - ruling him out of action for three months.

Sanchez said he had 'fallen in love with football' shortly after joining Antonio Conte's side, but his wait to rediscover his best form will now go on into the new year.

'He could be back ahead of schedule': Alexis Sanchez might make return from injury for Inter Milan early as chief medic provides optimistic update on Manchester United forward

* Alexis Sanchez could return from injury for Inter Milan ahead of schedule
* The Manchester United loanee was ruled out for three months with a knee issue
* Sanchez has scored one goal in four appearances since joining Inter on loan

Alexis Sanchez could return from injury for Inter Milan quicker than was initially anticipated.

The winger, who is on loan at the Italian club from Manchester United, was ruled out for around three months after suffering a serious ankle injury while on international duty with Chile last month.

However, the 30-year-old may now be back in action ahead of schedule.

Inter's chief medic Professor Volpi told Chilean newspaper La Cuarta: 'We worked well with Alexis Sanchez and that particular injury requires some careful monitoring, but it has been going pretty favourably, all things considered.

'The schedule for recovery we worked out at Inter has been fully respected. He is still expected to return in mid-January, but we'll see. Alexis could even be back a little bit ahead of schedule, if all goes well.

'We will have a better idea of the situation after the Christmas break. He hasn't yet started working with the ball at his feet, but hopefully we should have developments on that front over the next few days.'

Sanchez scored once in four appearances for Inter before injury struck.

He is currently on a season-long loan from United but it remains to be seen what his destination will be next summer, when Sanchez will have two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

Sanchez endured a miserable time at United as he scored just five goals in 45 appearances and failed to win a trophy.
