Default Frenkie de Jong

Sign Frenkie first! Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to seal a £69m deal for De Jong as a priority... with the Barcelona midfielder seen as a pivotal addition to kick-start his Old Trafford revamp in the summer window

* Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to wrap up a deal for Frenkie de Jong
* Ten Hag sees the Barcelona midfielder as crucial to his rebuild at Old Trafford
* United are demanding a fee of around £69million for the Dutch international
* Ten Hag doesn't want the club spending on less important targets at present

Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to sort out the Frenkie de Jong transfer as a matter of urgency because he regards the Dutch midfielder as the key player in the style revolution he intends to bring to Old Trafford.

The new United manager does not want the club spending transfer money on less important targets — even on out-of-contract players such as Christian Eriksen — as he wants the bulk of transfer budget directed at De Jong.

Once De Jong is signed from Barcelona, he will then decide which players he needs with the remainder of the budget. It points to a fresh United bid this week, with Barcelona demanding £69million, with United offering £56m.

United had hoped Barca would be desperate to sell because of their perilous financial state and mounting debts of close to £1bn. The Catalan club have to submit accounts to La Liga by the end of June, which will determine their spending limits next season, meaning a quick transfer seemed to be to their advantage as it would help to balance the books.

However, Barca members last week approved a £600m fundraising deal, mortgaging a percentage of future TV rights and merchandising rights to cover the majority of the debt.

Barca feel that will strengthen their hand in holding out for the full fee, as they are now willing to bide their time. Despite their financial troubles, they also remain confident of signing Robert Lewandowski, who has one year left to run on his deal at Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag is eager for Manchester United to sign Frenkie de Jong as a matter of urgency. Ten Hag doesn't want the club spending transfer money on less important targets at this stage. Ten Hag sees De Jong, who he worked with at Ajax, as key to his revolution at United

The Bundesliga champions are adamant he will have to see out his deal. They also hope to bid for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva if De Jong leaves for £69m. They expect to spend that fee on Bernardo as a replacement and believe the player wants to join them, though he has three years left on his City deal, leaving Pep Guardiola in a strong negotiating position.

But the City boss has always said he will allow players to leave at the right price if they tell him they no longer wish to be at the club.

Ten Hag will be encouraged if United do bid for De Jong again this week and get the deal done, as the midfielder will be integral to the team’s new playing style, moving the ball as a midfield pivot.

It confirms that United will attempt to play much more in the Ajax style, valuing possession more than under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, with the defensive midfielder expected to be the nexus of creativity and not just a physical presence.

Ten Hag does have other targets, Eriksen foremost among them, but he only wants those deals signed off once De Jong is confirmed. He doesn’t want to find that United have signed two or three players and then say that they don’t have enough money to meet Barca’s valuation for De Jong.

As such, it is expected that United’s move for 22-year-old Feyenoord left back Tyrell Malacia will proceed once the club are sure De Jong is coming.

Ten Hag wants a centre half as well but it looks as though Jurrien Timber will stay at Ajax, rejecting United’s offer, because he wants to be sure of playing regular football in the run up to the World Cup. In his time as Ajax coach, Ten Hag used De Jong in deep midfield, the first point of possession for centre halves passing out.

Yet De Jong would then immediately push on, attempting to progress 10-15 metres, to put his side on the front foot. Donny van de Beek, who is still at United and played at Ajax with De Jong, was notionally a No 10 in that side but could drop into a deeper role, more akin to a No 8, if De Jong was making forward runs.

It indicates that Ten Hag will be looking to play 4-3-3 with United and assuming that Cristiano Ronaldo will be centre forward, then Bruno Fernandes will have to adapt to a more versatile No 10 role, with more expected of him in deeper positions. Eriksen would also be capable of playing in that role and may offer more discipline.

With Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho expected to fill wide roles, Ten Hag will need further back-up other than Anthony Elanga, with Mason Greenwood still unavailable for selection and facing a bail hearing this week after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

With Edinson Cavani leaving, United will also need to sign another centre forward, with Anthony Martial unsettled and likely to leave.

Manchester United are set to make a renewed offer for top target Frenkie de Jong... but club remain '£15m short' of Barcelona's valuation of the Dutch midfielder after £51m bid was rejected

* Manchester United will make a new bid for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong
* Their previous bid for the Dutchman fell £15million short of Barca's valuation
* Barcelona are demanding a fee of around £69m for the 25-year-old midfielder
* Erik ten Hag sees the player as an integral part of his rebuild at Old Trafford

Manchester United will make a renewed transfer proposal for Barcelona's Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The clubs are still around £15m apart in valuation following United's opening gambit of £51m plus bonuses but de Jong is Erik ten Hag's priority along with free agent Christian Eriksen who has an offer from Tottenham.

However, Ajax's Dutch defender Jurrien Timber, another of United's targets this summer, is to sign a new deal with the Eredivisie side.

Ten Hag wants United to sort out the de Jong transfer as a matter of urgency because he regards the Dutch midfielder as the key player in the style revolution he intends to bring to Old Trafford.

Once De Jong is signed from Barcelona, he will then decide which players he needs with the remainder of the budget.

Whilst their bitter rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have set about bringing in reinforcements this window, the Red Devils are still yet to make any signings.

And with one of the biggest transfer stories of the window still yet to really gain any traction, United fans' wait for a new face at Old Trafford appears set to continue for a while longer.

United had hoped Barca would be desperate to sell because of their perilous financial state and mounting debts of close to £1bn.

Default Re: Frenkie de Jong

Barcelona 'reject Manchester United's improved £56m offer for Frenkie de Jong' as it still falls below the Spanish club's valuation... with Nou Camp chiefs 'looking to recoup the £65m they spent to sign him from Ajax'

* Manchester United are still yet to agree a fee with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong
* New Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag wants to reunite with the player this summer
* Reports in Spain suggest United recently increased their offer to £56million
* However, Barca have made it clear they will only sell De Jong for £65million
* The Spanish outfit are keen to recoup the fee they spent on him back in 2019

Manchester United are still falling short of Barcelona's asking price for Frenkie de Jong despite increasing their latest offer to £56million, according to reports in Spain.

De Jong has emerged as one of United's top transfer targets this summer, with new boss Erik ten Hag keen to bring the former Ajax midfielder to Old Trafford.

Red Devils CEO Richard Arnold recently confirmed the club's plans to sign him in a secretly-recorded conversation with supporters in a Cheshire pub, where he insisted money is 'not a consideration' as they go about bolstering Ten Hag's squad.

Though according to Spanish publication Marca, United are still yet to reach an agreement with Barca after seeing their latest £56million offer rejected.

Arnold and Co are said to have first come up short with an offer of £51million plus £17million in add-ons, before increasing their bid to £56million outright.

However, Barca are looking to recoup the £65million they paid to sign De Jong from Ajax in 2019 upfront, meaning United are still £8million short of their valuation.

The Spanish club are currently dealing with financial problems behind the scenes, meaning they are open to a sale for the right price.

Manchester United are still falling short of Barcelona's asking price for Frenkie de Jong. Erik ten Hag has pinpointed his former player as a top target at Old Trafford this summer. Ten Hag and De Jong previously worked together at Ajax, winning the Dutch title in 2018/19. But United are falling short of Barca's £65million asking price, which the Spanish club are looking to recoup after paying it to sign De Jong in 2019

United, aware of those economic constraints, have been trying to drive the price down as much as possible, but despite their woes Barca are in no hurry to sell.

It is believed offloading De Jong will not have any impact on their reported pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, nor their requirement to fall within Spain's Financial Fair Play regulation of spending 70 per cent of their overall income.

As a result, they are still holding out for United to meet their £65million valuation in full before allowing them to enter discussions with the player and his representatives.

De Jong, who still has four years to run on his contract at the Nou Camp, has made 140 appearances for Barca, scoring 13 goals and winning the Copa del Rey.

He previously worked alongside Ten Hag at Ajax, where they claimed the Dutch title and came within seconds of reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

The 25-year-old is not the only player on Ten Hag's radar, nevertheless, as reports suggest United are also closing in on the signing of current Ajax winger Antony.

Mungkin dia bakal berpikir bahwa menjadi pelatih United tidak seperti yang dibayangkan dimana bisa minta pemain yang diinginkan kepada manajemen.

sebenarnya bukan drama, disatu sisi de Jong gak masih pindah/masih betah, disisi lain ETH butuh banget si de Jong ini, sedangkan Barca gak urgent melepas de Jong namun kalo harga cocok sih mau aja lepas buat menambal krisis keuangan.

Manchester United are closing in on finally wrapping up a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong with talks progressing... as a basic £55m fee is discussed with bonuses taking the package to £68m

* Manchester United are now moving closer to sealing a deal for Frenkie de Jong
* Erik ten Hag is keen to bring the Dutch international to Old Trafford this season
* A basic £55million fee has been discussed with bonuses taking package to £68m
* The Red Devils will be hoping to sort the transfer out by the end of the month

Manchester United are closing in on an agreement with Barcelona to sign midfielder Frenkie de Jong after a breakthrough in negotiations.

The former Ajax star has been one of United's top transfer priorities this summer - with boss Erik ten Hag keen to be reunited with his former player at Old Trafford.

With the two clubs locked in lengthy negotiations over a deal worth £68million, Sportsmail can reveal that discussions are progressing positively for United.

A basic £55m fee has been discussed with bonuses up to around £68m.

According to Sport, United are confident a deal will be struck by June 30.

Reports suggested that the Red Devils had a £56m offer rejected for the Dutch international at the start of the week.

Manchester United are progressing in discussions with Barcelona over Frenkie de Jong. A £55m fee has been discussed with bonuses that would take the overall package to £68m. Erik ten Hag is keen to be reunited with his former player at Old Trafford for the upcoming year

However, negotiations have been ongoing and now United are said to be much closer to meeting Barcelona's €80m (£68.6m) asking price for the midfielder.

Xavi's side are holding out on their valuation as they look to recoup the money spent on the 25-year-old when they signed him from Ajax for £65m in 2019.

United have also been in close pursuit of Ajax and Brazil winger Antony - another of ten Hag's former players.

The 22-year-old is keen to link up with ten Hag again and was absent from new manager Alfred Schreuder's training session on Friday due to a longer break.

Antony - identified as a target by Ten Hag during talks with United football director John Murtough in Amsterdam last month - shares a good relationship with his former boss, with the Dutchman signing him from Sao Paulo in 2020.

Talks are ongoing for the £40m man, who scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists as Ten Hag's Ajax side won the Eredivisie last season.

Manchester United 'reject Barcelona's STUNNING attempt to lure Harry Maguire to the Nou Camp as part of a Frenkie de Jong swap deal - because Erik ten Hag is keen to work with the defender'

* Manchester United have refused to allow Barcelona to sign Harry Maguire
* Barcelona attempted to include the centre-back in the deal for Frenkie de Jong
* United are progressing in discussions over a deal for Dutch midfielder de Jong
* New boss Erik ten Hag wants Maguire to remain part of his squad at Old Trafford

Manchester United have turned down Barcelona's attempt to sign their captain Harry Maguire as part of a deal for Frenkie de Jong.

United are progressing in discussions over a deal for de Jong, with a £55m fee having been discussed plus bonuses which could see it rise to around £68m.

As reported by The Sun, Barcelona attempted to sign Maguire as part of the deal but new United boss Erik ten Hag wants to keep the centre-back.

De Jong is seen as ten Hag's main priority in this transfer window, with the pair having previously worked together at Ajax.

Manchester United have rejected Barcelona's attempt to sign defender Harry Maguire. Barcelona were looking to include Maguire in the deal for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong

United's midfield is in need of an overhaul and it is felt that de Jong can have a major impact in terms of getting the team to work as a more cohesive unit.

It is clear that United require reinforcements in midfield in any case, with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all leaving the club.

Barcelona manager Xavi is on the lookout for a new centre-back, especially with Gerard Pique injury prone and Samuel Umtiti likely to depart. They can already call upon the likes of Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet but were eager to bring in Maguire.

Given his tendency to push forward with the ball at times, Maguire could well have suited Barcelona's style of play.

Maguire received much criticism last season as United endured a woeful campaign that concluded them finishing in sixth place in the Premier League.

New United manager Erik ten Hag wants Maguire to be part of his squad for this season. Barcelona manager Xavi had hoped to sign Maguire but United are not letting him leave. Maguire is determined to impress for United after some disappointing performances

There were many occasions when hesitancy or woeful positioning from Maguire proved detrimental to United's cause.

However, the 29-year-old wants to stay at United and prove to ten Hag that he can be a dependable performer.

Having previously played for Sheffield United and Hull City, Maguire became the world's most expensive defender when he joined United from Leicester for £80million in 2019.

He has proceeded to make 144 appearances for United but hasn't won any silverware, with his performances often lacking consistency.

Despite the frequent criticism of him, Maguire remains a prominent player for United and also for England as he retains the backing of Gareth Southgate.

Maguire has often performed to a higher standard for his country and has been capped 46 times by the Three Lions. He seems set to be part of the squad that heads to Qatar for the World Cup later this year.
