Default Re: Manchester United Tour 2018

Manchester United will return to the United States in July to play five games, including one against arch rivals Liverpool, as part of Tour 2018, presented by Aon.

Who are the Reds playing on tour?

Jose Mourinho's men are due to fly out to the United States on 15 July and will play two friendlies against Club America (19 July) and San Jose Earthquakes (22 July) before taking part in three International Champions Cup matches against AC Milan (25 July), Liverpool (25 July) and Real Madrid (28 July).

Where can I watch the tour games?
Every single moment of the matches will be shown on MUTV, which is available via Sky or Virgin Media in the UK and Ireland or online globally at MUTV.com or through the MUTV app.

Where can I buy tickets?
Match tickets for all the tour fixtures are on general sale through Ticketmaster. Take advantage of the widest choice of seats now and get your tickets booked, leaving you to focus on planning a trip Stateside to see United live in action.

United v Club America – Phoenix University Stadium – 19 July (19:00 local)
The first game of Tour 2018, presented by Aon, will be against Liga MX side, Club America. Based in Mexico City, the Eagles have faced the Reds before - in 2015, over 45,000 supporters were in attendance in Seattle, where Morgan Schneiderlin scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for United. This year's clash will take place at the 75,000-capacity Phoenix University Stadium.

United v San Jose Earthquakes – Levi’s Stadium – 22 July (14:00 local)
With the potential for over 60,000 fans to be in attendance at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the second match of the tour will pit the Reds against the San Jose Earthquakes. Again, these two are no strangers, with a previous meeting in 2015. On that occasion, United beat the MLS side 3-1 with goals from Juan Mata, Memphis Depay, and Andreas Pereira. at the California Memorial Stadium. The Earthquakes are based in San Jose, California and compete in the Western Conference of MLS.

United v AC Milan – Rosebowl Stadium – 25 July (20:05 local)
The Reds’ third game of the tour will be against AC Milan in the International Champions Cup at the Rose Bowl stadium. The last time the sides met in pre-season was back in 2004, when the Italians won an epic penalty shoot-out 9-8 in New Jersey.

United v Liverpool – Michigan Stadium – 28 July (17:05 local)
One of the fiercest rivalries in English football will resume on the other side of the Atlantic, as Mourinho's men take on the Merseysiders in front of a potential 100,000 fans at the second biggest venue in the world, the Michigan Stadium. United were undefeated against Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Premier League last season, with a goalless draw at Anfield before a fantastic 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

United v Real Madrid – Hard Rock Stadium – Tuesday 31 July (20:05 local)
The final match of Tour 2018, presented by Aon, will be against the Champions League winners, Real Madrid, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The Reds beat Los Blancos on penalties in last year’s Champions Cup in Santa Clara, California, but the Spanish side swiftly gained revenge by winning the UEFA Super Cup match between the sides in the following month.

THE COUNTDOWN TO UNITED’S PRE-SEASON TOUR BEGINS

Football fans around the world may be absorbed in an entertaining World Cup but we’re already looking forward to Manchester United’s return to action.

The countdown to Tour 2018, presented by Aon, has begun, with the team’s first game against Mexican outfit Club America scheduled to take place a month today, for Reds supporters watching in the UK (20 July, kick-off 03:00 BST).

By then, Jose Mourinho’s squad will have been at their base in the USA for a few days as preparations for 2018/19 begin in earnest.

The opening friendly, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, is followed by an encounter with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes in Santa Clara (22 July) and three International Champions Cup matches against AC Milan (25 July), Liverpool (28 July) and Real Madrid (31 July).

All the games will be shown on MUTV, which is available via Sky or Virgin Media in the UK and Ireland or online globally at MUTV.com or through the MUTV app.

The pre-season tour traditionally gives summer signings the chance to bed in at their new club, as well as offering some of United’s younger players an opportunity to impress Mourinho.

With David De Gea hoping to reach the latter stages of the World Cup with Spain and Sergio Romero sidelined through injury, Joel Pereira is likely to see some action in goal for the Reds during the trip.

The 21-year-old Portuguese started United’s friendly against Real Salt Lake last summer and got further pre-season game-time against LA Galaxy, Valerenga and Sampdoria.

Those experiences stood him in good stead for his second senior competitive appearance when the 2017/18 campaign got under way, in September’s EFL Cup win over Burton Albion.

TOUR 2018 IMPORTANT FOR REDS' FITNESS LEVELS

Spanish duo Juan Mata and Ander Herrera have spoken about the importance of pre-season as the Manchester United players step up their fitness levels ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking to ManUtd.com ahead of the squad's trip to the United States for Tour 2018, presented by Aon, the midfield pair highlighted the importance of returning to peak physical condition to ensure the squad hits the ground running in 2018/19.

“I think the tour is very good because you can mix between cardio work and also tactical work,” Herrera said. “During the pre-season you have to get your energy back and recharge your batteries for the new season, so it's a very important time.”

The Reds will face five opponents during the tour, including Champions League holders Real Madrid and fierce rivals Liverpool. They're mouthwatering clashes but Mata admits fitness will be the main focus.

“To be honest, these games are for fitness reasons and some tactical training because you want to be ready for the important games in the season.

”But it's always nice to play against the biggest teams in the world and it's great for the American fans that they get to see such big games.“

Herrera agreed with his team-mate on how fitness is key for the United players at this stage of the season, but also added that the Reds will be eager to continue the impressive record from previous pre-season tours.

“During pre-season you have to get your energy back and recharge your batteries for the new season, so it's a very important time.

”The result is not the most important thing during these games, but of course we always enjoy playing against big teams and you want to perform well and win big if you can.“

Herrera added: ”During my time at United, pre-seasons have gone very well in terms of results, but it's not the most important thing.

“But if we can win then all the better!”

MCTOMINAY: TOURS ARE GREAT OPPORTUNITIES

When a fresh-faced Scott McTominay featured on Manchester United's pre-season tour last summer, few would have envisaged what the young midfielder would go on to accomplish in his first full season in the senior squad.

During Tour 2017, the Academy graduate built on his competitive debut in the preceding May by playing against Real Madrid in the United States and scoring in the Reds' 3-0 win over Valerenga in Norway. The overall experience proved to be a great platform for McTominay, who went on to make 23 appearances for the club in 2017/18 and receive the Manager's Player of the Season award from Jose Mourinho.

Speaking to ManUtd.com in April, the Scotland international suggested this month's Tour 2018, presented by Aon, will offer similar opportunities to another set of United youngsters.

“We're going back to the States this year and it's a great chance for more young players to come and show the manager what you can do,” said McTominay.

“To be selected for the tour was a really good achievement for me and I was involved in some great games. I came on against Real Madrid - to play against them was incredible for me

”I got my first senior goal for the club against Valerenga and that was such a proud moment and it just makes you want more.“

McTominay is ready to offer advice to any young players included in this summer's tour squad, to help them make the most of the opportunity.

“Through the last year I have tried to pass on some of the things I’ve learnt to the younger lads,” he said.

“When players like Angel [Gomes] and others come up into the first-team squad, you have to help them and explain things to them. You try to pass on your knowledge, just like senior players such as Michael Carrick have done with me.”

UNITED LEGEND ANDY COLE EXCITED FOR TOUR 2018

Manchester United legend and ambassador Andy Cole knows a thing or two about pre-season tours, and the Treble winner cannot wait to see United take on some of Europe’s finest in the US this summer.

We sat down with our former goal machine to discuss all things Tour 2018…

We’re back in the US to face some top teams and rivals – how excited are you by the prospect of seeing three fantastic International Champions Cup games, including a game against our big rivals Liverpool?

“I wish I was playing in games like these. Pre-season is very different now and these aren’t like the games that used to be classed as friendlies. Playing against big teams will give the squad the perfect preparation for the season, playing in high-tempo matches, in front of big crowds. Whenever United face Liverpool it’s always a game that everybody wants to watch, and that will be the same in the summer at the Big House. It’s an impressive stadium and no doubt the fans in America can’t wait for this.”

When someone says United v Liverpool, what immediately springs to mind?

“Huge game. It's massive and one that has so much history. It’s about rivalry between two big clubs and cities. It’s always one of the first fixtures that I used to look for and fans will be excited by this game in July.”

What are your favourite memories of facing them?
“I played in a few of these games and scored four times in these derbies, so I have a lot of great memories. Any game when we can take three points is an important one. These points would help us towards winning titles, so overall, great memories.”

Yes, it’s a pre-season game, but both sides will want to win…
“Of course. You look at the teams playing in the ICC and it’s huge. The biggest teams in Europe are all competing and it’s a chance to get one over your rivals, show them what they’re in for over the course of the season.”

We face AC Milan in LA – what kind of test will they provide?
“Milan have had great players over the years and are massive. They will provide a really good test for the lads.”

United v Real Madrid – that’s some game to end the tour with…
“We have faced them a few times in America now and these games are the ones that everybody wants to see. [There were] over 109,000 fans the other year, which tells you how big this game is; it’s two of the biggest teams in the world, going head-to-head. It’s massive.”

Cristiano Ronaldo – go! Where does he rank in football history?
“What can you say about him that hasn’t already been said? He continues to break records at the highest level and we are seeing one of the greatest of all time. He is up there with the best and he can do anything.”

Of course, he’s broken every record at Real Madrid, but what would you say about the important groundwork and football and life lessons he learned at United and from Sir Alex – how have they helped him make him into the player he is today?
“I remember watching him, coming off the bench on his debut [against Bolton Wanderers], and seeing a young player who just had raw talent. Working with Sir Alex has given him the best possible grounding. He worked with the best and you can see that. He made a great impact at United, learning the game and becoming the player that he is today. The boss will have talked to him, given him the correct advice and made sure that he developed and improved his game.”

The profile of soccer in the US continues to grow, doesn’t it? Zlatan has certainly caught the eye already!
“You can see that by the excitement amongst people here ahead of the tour. The MLS keeps getting bigger too, with more teams joining the league and more players going there. Zlatan has the huge personality that will make him be a great story for LA Galaxy, as well as his undeniable talent, which we witnessed on his debut with that great goal!”

LA is where we’ll have our training camp, at UCLA. Jose called last season’s tour “perfect” – how big a factor is having great training facilities during pre-season and being able to get the important groundwork done for the season?
“It’s very important, as it sets the standard and expectation for the season ahead. Pre-season is a lot of hard work with back-to-back sessions, hot weather and it can be tough. Having the perfect set-up makes a big difference. It’s a professional environment and it’s key to the start you make in the season.”

THE UNITED PROSPECTS WITH A CHANCE TO SHINE ON TOUR

Jose Mourinho named a group of Manchester United Academy players in the travelling squad for Tour 2018, presented by Aon.

As the young lads work with their more experienced colleagues in training, it is worth providing a few more details on them.

JOSHUA BOHUI

I spoke to Joshua on a flight to Belgrade last season and he told me he wanted to catch Jose Mourinho's eye, and he has managed to do that. He has done really well, getting into the Reserves, ploughing a lone furrow on his own up front, using his speed, and he was perhaps most impressive in the UEFA Youth League. He scored a couple of goals against Benfica, and the one in the last minute was a terrific solo effort. Joshua came from Brentford as a youngster and took a little bit of time to settle but, now that he has done, I expect him to show his speed and ability out in the States.

TAHITH CHONG

Chongy, as he is affectionately known, is a really good talent. He is an exceptional player with great speed and he is a good dribbler. He made the step up to the Reserves really well last season and won the Jimmy Murphy Youth-Team Player of the Year award, which was fully merited and deserved, even though most of his work was with the Under-23s and not the Under-18s. He is somebody who everybody is looking forward to seeing on the tour when the matches start.

ETHAN HAMILTON

Ethan is a dynamic midfielder who can run from box to box and has already played for Scotland at youth level. He knows Ricky Sbragia from his time in that Scottish set-up and I know Ricky likes the way he trains, putting in the maximum effort every day. He is a player who could surprise a few people, maybe like Scott McTominay did. He is coming on nicely, building his physique, and he can probably handle the men’s game now. He had a brief taste of the first team when he was on the bench at Huddersfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup, after Paul Pogba pulled out through illness in the morning, so he should take this step up in his stride.

ANGEL GOMES

Angel has been talked about as a top talent since he was in his early teens. He is only a little lad, but has managed to push on and made his first-team debut against Crystal Palace in May 2016, before enjoying an outing against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup the following season. Jose clearly rates him and he has a lot of talent. He had a lot of injuries last season and didn't play as much as he'd have liked. He came back for the Under-18s final against Chelsea but possibly wasn't quite match-fit. But now he is back and he'll be firing on all cylinders again, which we all look forward to seeing because he is such a clever player. Angel will look to link up with some senior players in the side, which is an exciting prospect.

RO-SHAUN WILLIAMS

The defender was on the first-team bench during Louis van Gaal’s time in charge, but he’s had some injury problems and admitted to me that last term was all about regaining full fitness, and getting back to the peak of his powers. Towards the end of the campaign, this appeared to be the case as he was particularly effective in the ICGT competition in the Netherlands, earning a place in the Team of the Tournament after United lifted the trophy. He’s quick and powerful, plus something of a leader at the back, and has all the raw attributes to go far. This place on the first-team tour is a real reward for his perseverance.

JAMES GARNER

James is a player I really like. He is a throwback, really, to the old-school midfielder who gets up and down the pitch. He can also play in defence, but is probably at his best when he plays in the middle and he has been getting tips from Michael Carrick on his passing, which has come on a lot in the past season. He’s even added goals to his game and, significantly, was captain for the England Under-17s when they did well in the European Championship at the end of the campaign, which meant he was absent for the Under-18s Premier League final against Chelsea. We missed him in the engine room. James has a great future here and he recently signed a new contract, in the boardroom at Old Trafford, which suggests how highly rated he is by the club.

MASON GREENWOOD

We don't like to shout too much about our young talents at United, especially when they are as young as Mason is, at 16 years old, but he is a player we are all excited about. He did really well last season by finishing as the top scorer for the Under-18s, despite playing against much older and more physical boys. He did really well in the Dallas Cup, which was good preparation for going to the United States with the first team this summer. He is a big talent, a big prospect, who is two-footed and knows where the goal is. He can play up front or as a no.10, and he already has international recognition with England. He didn't play at the Under-17 European Championship because of his school work, which shows you how young he is, but what an opportunity this is for him on tour.

Manchester United axe third of staff from pre-season US tour in bid to save £500,000... and they were only told of the cut last week!

* Manchester United have cut 50 staff members from their United States tour
* United had travelled to the US a year ago with a party of around 150
* Despite website revamp, staff supplying US content has been cut to minimum
* Fewer club legends will also appear on the tour as United aim to reduce costs
* United will play three International Champions Cup games as part of tour

Manchester United have cut 50 members of staff from their tour party to America in a move that could save the club around £500,000.

When United visited the USA a year ago, they took a support team of 150 including those working for the club website and other departments.

This summer, the figure has been slashed by a third to 100 in an effort to reduce costs. United pay approximately £10,000 for each member of staff to be on tour for the duration of the 17-day trip.

Manchester United have axed a third of their support staff from the tour to the United States

It’s understood that some of them were only told last week that they would not be travelling to the US this year.

Despite revamping the club website recently, staff supplying content to it in America has been cut to a bare minimum. There are also fewer club ‘legends’ joining the tour this year.

United are keeping an eye on costs despite earning a significant appearance fee from the International Champions Cup organisers for their three fixtures against AC Milan in LA, Liverpool in Michigan and Real Madrid in Miami.

Jose Mourinho’s side kick off their tour with two games against MLS teams, Club America in Phoenix and San Jose Earthquakes in Santa Clara.

However, the United players and staff selected for the tour are once again staying in Beverly Hills as the squad trains at UCLA, a base Mourinho has favoured for many years as coach of Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Mourinho: Pramusim MU Sangat Buruk
Meylan Fredy Ismawan - detikSport

Los Angeles - Jose Mourinho mengkhawatirkan persiapan Manchester United menjelang dimulainya musim baru. Absennya pemain-pemain kunci membuat pramusim 'Setan Merah' sangat buruk.
