Default Re: Haruskah Ole dipecat?

Sempat cukup lama muak sama ManUnited, hopeless, capek, apalagi dulu masih ngalamin jamannya juara EPL kayak tinggal tunggu waktu, sekarang ngomongin juara EPL aja kayak "nggak pantes". Hancur lebur rasa percaya diri jadi fans Man United, sampai malu pake jersey ManUnited. Tetangga brisik makin riuh, eh kok ya saingan "abadi" bisa-bisanya juara EPL +UCL. Makin nyungsrup rasanya.

Sisanya I am with United all the way.

Manchester United 'keeping tabs on Thomas Tuchel if they sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the coming weeks... and PSG boss would be keen on a move to Old Trafford'

* Manchester United have struggled for consistency under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* Their latest setback came in midweek in the Champions League defeat by PSG
* Thomas Tuchel's contract at the Ligue 1 champions runs out in June next year
* And reports now claim he feels he is ready to take over at the Old Trafford helm

Manchester United could move for Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel if they sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the next few weeks, according to reports in Germany.

After taking over on a caretaker basis in December 2018, Solskjaer signed a three-year contract in March 2019, but the 18 months since have seen constant inconsistency in form in the Premier League and Europe.

Their latest setback came with a 3-1 defeat in the Champions League to the French champions in midweek, leaving United's hopes of securing qualification for the knockout stages in the balance.

And according to BILD, should they fail to qualify from Group H, the club are keeping tabs on the German, who they claim will probably leave the Parc des Princes at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The report adds that no talks have taken place but it is no secret in Paris that the former Borussia Dortmund boss feels he is ready to take the step and manage in the Premier League.

The same outlet insists that in the past there has been contact between Tuchel and United about taking over at the Old Trafford helm.

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Thomas Tuchel, according to reports in Germany. Manchester United have been inconsistent under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Now reports claim United could move for Tuchel if the hierarchy decide to sack the Norwegian. Tuchel's contract expires in June and there has been plenty of speculation about his future

The 47-year-old has been under pressure this season and has faced constatnt questions about his future ever since he fell out with PSG sporting director Leonardo in the summer after taking aim at the club's lack of spending in the transfer window.

After the manager publicly criticised the club's business in the transfer market, Leonardo hit back. 'We did not like these statements,' said the sporting director.

'The club did not like them and neither did I. If he decides to stay, he needs to respect the board's strategy.'

Mauricio Pochettino is also reportedly a prime candidate to take over from Solskjaer if United decide to sack the Norwegian.

Mauricio Pochettino has also been linked with the Old Trafford and Parc des Princes hotseats. Simon Jordan insisted Soslkjaer should leave United because he represents mediocrity

But reports earlier this week claimed the Argentine in fact could replace Tuchel at PSG due to his fondness for the city and the interesting project at the club.

Solskjaer came under further fire this week from former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who claims the Norwegian 'represents mediocrity' and called for him to leave Old Trafford.

'I wouldn't have employed him in the first place because I think he represents mediocrity,' Jordan told talkSPORT.

'He is a thoroughly decent football person, but Manchester United don't need a thoroughly decent football person, they need an excellent football person that is capable of taking them to the next level...

'We are now two years - not two minutes, not twenty games - two years into a tenure where he got a pass at the back end of last season, which has distorted the view of what Manchester United really are.

'They are a very average side with some very highly-priced footballers that aren't performing at the level that Manchester United should be performing at.'

Mauricio Pochettino's wait for Manchester United job may be in vain with club set to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite crashing out of the Champions League

* Manchester United will continue to back under-fire boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
* The United boss is under pressure after their exit from the Champions League
* However, the club are prepared to back the boss despite the tournament exit
* It means Mauricio Pochettino's wait for the United vacancy could be in vain

Manchester United will continue to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite their painful Champions League exit in Leipzig and the availability of Mauricio Pochettino.

Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford is in question again following Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat and he will come under greater scrutiny if United lose the Manchester derby at home this weekend.

Pochettino has not worked since leaving Tottenham 13 months ago, and it is understood he has been waiting to see if the United job comes up.

Manchester United will continue to back their under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer . Solskjaer's job is under threat after the club crashed out of the Champions League at Leipzig

However, Old Trafford sources insisted last night that the club is committed to Solskjaer and a long-term plan to break the hire-and-fire cycle since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

They are confident the team are heading in the right direction and believe it would make no sense to sack the manager now, despite seeing Solskjaer’s men drop into the Europa League.

United’s failure in Germany on Tuesday could come at a cost as the club continue to feel the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the club have no plans to sack the boss as they look to continue their long-term plan. The news will come as a blow to Mauricio Pochettino who has been vying for the United job

They have already banked £53million from the Champions League group stage and that could have risen to £100m if they had gone all the way to the final.

In comparison, winning the Europa League would take it closer to £70m.

However, in theory United have a better chance of progressing in a competition they won in 2017 before reaching the semi-finals last season.

Antonio Conte 'would be OPEN to being Manchester United boss if called upon'... but out-of-work Italian 'would reject Arsenal having already turned down Tottenham'

* Antonio Conte would be interested in taking on the Manchester United job
* Conte would reportedly snub Arsenal, just as he did Tottenham this summer
* The 52-year-old Italian is currently out of work having parted ways with Inter

Antonio Conte has reportedly expressed an interest in managing Manchester United should the opportunity arise.

The 52-year-old is currently out of work having left Serie A giants Inter after guiding them to their first championship in 11 years.

Conte has experience of top-flight Premier League management after taking charge of Chelsea in 2016 and winning the title in his first campaign, at the same time as setting a new record for most wins in a season.

Now Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has said Conte would be interested in the Red Devils if they came knocking.

Antonio Conte has reportedly expressed an interest in managing Manchester United some day. The 52-year-old Italian is currently out of work after leading Inter to the Serie A title last season. An approach for Conte would be contingent on United sacking manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

However, he would snub an offer from Arsenal, whose stock has fallen significantly in the past few years, with di Marzio saying Conte had similar reasons for turning down Tottenham.

Spurs approached Conte as one of several candidates over the summer to replace caretake Ryan Mason, but the Italian declined their offer.

'He would only accept a winning project,' di Marzio said. 'So I don't think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham.

'I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called.'

Of course any approach for Conte from Old Trafford would be contingent on the club sacking current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian has just presided over his seventh defeat in 11 Champions League games in charge of United after they lost 2-1 away to Young Boys on Wednesday.

Gary Neville does NOT think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be sacked imminently as Manchester United manager despite scathing criticism after Leicester defeat... but claims Antonio Conte or Brendan Rodgers are not good fits to replace the Norwegian

* Man United lost 4-2 at Leicester to make it three league games without a win
* Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now under pressure to deliver results
* Gary Neville believes United will not sack Solskjaer yet despite their poor form
* Neville has urged the club's fans to not panic and told the club to 'stick to plan'

Gary Neville predicts Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not be sacked as Manchester United manager amid the Red Devils' poor Premier League form and has asked the club to 'stick to plan'.

Solskjaer's United lost 4-2 to Leicester City on Saturday to make it three Premier League games without a win, leaving the Red Devils five points off the top of the summit with clashes agains the 'Big Six' in five out of their next six games.

Neville recognises Norwegian manager is under pressure to deliver trophies in his third full season in charge - especially with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo joining the club this summer - but does not think the club will pull the trigger on Solskjaer just yet.

'The club won't sack him, the club will stick with him,' Neville said in an Instagram Live Q&A on Sunday. 'I think the fact they've had those experiences with (David) Moyes, with Jose (Mourinho) and (Louis) van Gaal. I think they'll stick to plan.

Gary Neville believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (above) will not be sacked as Man United boss yet. Neville has urged Red Devils fans not to panic and for the club to 'stick to plan'

'Ole is under pressure, but they won't sack him, there's no doubt about that. I know that won't please some of you, some of you want a new manager.'

United took the lead at the King Power Stadium when Mason Greenwood lashed in a brilliant long-range drive off the post, but Youri Tielemans struck before half-time with an equally-impressive sweeping effort.

Leicester turned the tables on the Red Devils after the break through Caglar Soyuncu's goal but Rashford marked his return from shoulder surgery with an equaliser for 2-2.

But United's restoration of parity lasted just a matter of seconds as Jamie Vardy lashed home from inside the box before Patson Daka tapped home a result-clinching fourth for the Foxes.

After the match on Saturday, Neville described United's display as 'nowhere near good enough' while the likes of Alan Shearer and Micah Richards slammed the club for failing to have an identity, an argument which the former United defender agrees with.

'I do understand that (there's no identity at United),' Neville added. 'That's the thing I struggle with, the identity, the lack of style either in or out of possession. I actually agree with that.

United were beaten 4-2 by Leicester on Saturday to make it three leagueames without a win. Solskjaer has been slammed for still lacking an identity in his all-star United squad

'This is Ole's third full season now and he's got to deliver a trophy this season and everyone's going be up in arms at the moment, panicking. It's that point in the year, there are massive games coming up. Atalanta this week, then Liverpool next Sunday at Old Trafford. It could be painful.

'Let's not panic here. Everyone will want Manchester United to panic. Nothing will be fixed in the next 10 minutes. Just stick to plan, get through the season and see what happens this season.

'Obviously if there isn't a trophy or it continues to go as it is, then Ole will come under great pressure. He knows that being in a job for three and a half years at that time.'

Speculation over who would replace Solskjaer at Old Trafford has risen following United's latest defeat, but Neville admits that the early names such as former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and Leicester's Brendan Rodgers are not good fits.

Neville claimed: 'Conte won't be the manager of Manchester United, I don't think. I don't think they'll go for that option personally. He's a great manager but I think certain manager fit clubs and I don't think Conte fits United personally.

'Brendan Rodgers won't happen either. He's managed Liverpool before, I don't think they would go for Brendan. But again, he's a great manager.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is fighting for his job after Glazers held crisis talks with Ed Woodward on Monday, with Man United players questioning his tactics and club only offering lukewarm support as Antonio Conte emerges as leading candidate

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing the real possibility of being sacked from his role
* Crisis talks have been held with the Man United board and the Glazer family
* Sources only offered lukewarm support for Solskjaer after the Liverpool loss
* The leading candidate to take over is former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is fighting to save his job as Manchester United manager as speculation mounts over his future at Old Trafford.

It’s understood that Solskjaer fears his time in charge may be coming to an end after nearly three years with former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte considered the leading candidate to replace him.

Following a day of deafening silence at United, sources emerged to offer Solskjaer lukewarm support on Monday night more than 24 hours after the humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Earlier, chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer held crisis talks with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold as the shock of losing so pathetically to their bitter rivals continued to reverberate around the club.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer spent two-and-a-half hours at the training ground around lunchtime after giving his squad and coaching staff the day off.

Senior players are now questioning Solskjaer’s tactics and leadership over concerns that he lacks the experience to get himself out of trouble and is too soft on them.

It is not the first time the 48-year-old has faced an uncertain future since he returned to the club in December 2018. Whereas United have previously offered Solskjaer unequivocal backing, however, the message on Monday night was less emphatic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is fighting to save his job as Manchester United manager this week. Chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer held crisis talks with the club's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold on Monday. Woodward will depart at the end of the season but now has some huge decisions to make

Sources stressed the need to pull together and move on from Sunday’s embarrassment, adding that there is nothing to say Solskjaer won’t still be in charge when United visit Tottenham on Saturday.

Conte has expressed an interest in the job having been out of work since leaving Inter Milan in May, although his camp maintain that they will not open talks with United until Solskjaer’s situation has been resolved.

Appointing the 52-year-old Italian would represent a major U-turn for United after bringing Solskjaer back to Old Trafford to replace Jose Mourinho and oversee a cultural shift more in keeping with the club’s traditions.

The abrasive Conte would not be a natural fit for that culture or the more harmonious atmosphere fostered by Solskjaer. Like Mourinho, he tends to work in short cycles and would most likely want to bring in his own staff.

If Solskjaer does survive this crisis, he knows that change will have to be swift and effective after a run of five defeats in nine games. Bold decisions will need to be made about big players and United may have to resort to being a more compact, counter-attacking team.

In the aftermath of the Liverpool humiliation, sources claim that he was just as stunned as anyone in the confines of the team’s Old Trafford dressing-room after the full-time whistle.

As exclusively revealed by Sportsmail, Solskjaer is understood to have called on his players to fight their way back from one of the darkest days the club has suffered in recent memory.

He warned them to prepare for days of major criticism following the capitulation, but said the only way they would come through it is by sticking together and responding.

‘It was made clear to the players that they all, including the manager, would get battered this week,’ said the source. ‘But the message was that the team either fights each other or fight back together.’

However, having asked his players to implement a pressing style against Jurgen Klopp’s side, a number of players believed the team were not prepared to play in that way because they had not particularly focussed on the tactic in training in the days leading up to the game.

Meanwhile, David De Gea gave a brutal assessment of United’s form as he joined some of his teammates by apologising to supporters.

‘It is difficult to describe what I feel now,’ said De Gea.

‘It hurts. It is not good enough. We keep on conceding s**t goals like we have been doing all season. We play like kids and I have to apologise to the fans.’

Default Re: Haruskah Ole dipecat?

The idea that Manchester United don't need Antonio Conte is just BIZARRE. They have got the local hero at the wheel, and it's not working... Idealistic fantasies are no reason to stick

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ran out of ideas and now time as Man United manager
* He has been in charge for 1,041 days and signs of future change will not come
* United have no master tactician like rivals have in Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola
* Gary Neville's argument that Antonio Conte wouldn't be right makes little sense

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job is not to lift the mood at Old Trafford. Not after 1,041 days. The claims of success that are made on his behalf are long outdated.

If the Manchester United job was just about getting everyone smiling, employ a comedian. Do your own jokes at this point, because you know you want to.

What Manchester United need is a manager, a coach, a leader. Someone who might not necessarily call Sir Alex Ferguson ‘boss’, or be immersed in the modern history of the place — and it is only modern history because before the advent of the Premier League Manchester United’s last title came in 1967 — but might win trophies, win titles and improve players.

Solskjaer’s champions still cite last season’s second place but Liverpool had their best central midfielders, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, at centre half for most of it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now looks to be on borrowed time as Manchester United manager with Antonio Conte (right) the leading candidate to replace him

Chelsea were in one of their many years of transition yet somehow became the champions of Europe.

Would Manchester United have finished runners-up against a fit Virgil van Dijk, or with Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge for 38 matches? The idea that Manchester United do not need a figure like Antonio Conte to shape this squad into one that competes is so obtuse and contrary it borders on the wilful.

Yes, Solskjaer seems a good, straight guy. Yes, a lot of his former team-mates are still his friends and would rather support and encourage than criticise. We understand their conflicts. There comes a time, however, when the evidence is overwhelming.

No, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho did not transform Manchester United into title winners — although, between them, they did win the club’s only trophies of the post-Ferguson era — but that doesn’t mean the board should give up on experience, on track records, on course and distance.

Manchester United need a proven, elite coach of substance, to work with proven, elite players.

It is said Manchester United would not have a single inclusion in a combined XI with Liverpool but that isn’t strictly true. The Harry Maguire of England might get picked; the Paul Pogba of France; the Bruno Fernandes who arrived from Sporting Lisbon last year. But not now.

United went for the local hero with Solskjaer but now need a well-drilled, elite manager. Any side with Cristiano Ronaldo in it is immediately more of a threat and Man United now need someone to make that a reality

And Jurgen Klopp knows what Cristiano Ronaldo could have brought Manchester United. After his signing, asked whether he was happy Ronaldo had joined United and not Manchester City, he admitted: ‘No, I cannot say that.’

The inference was clear. Any side with Ronaldo is immediately more of a threat. United now need someone to make that a reality. Past experiences with Mourinho and Van Gaal are irrelevant. United need better direction than they are getting now.

Other clubs understand this. Roman Abramovich appointed a World Cup winner in Luiz Felipe Scolari, supposedly the brightest young coach in Europe in Andre Villas-Boas and, in Maurizio Sarri, a man who, according to Pep Guardiola, played the best football in Europe.

None of them quite worked out. That didn’t mean he gave up on the idea of a transformative but possibly high-maintenance coach. He sacked Frank Lampard and brought in Tuchel. He didn’t opt for a quiet life.

He didn’t prioritise a cheery mood over performance.

The fans loved Lampard, they still love singing his name but they loved winning the Champions League as much, if not more.

It was terribly harsh what happened at Chelsea last season. Lampard remains a huge part of the recent success because he placed trust in young players like Mason Mount and Reece James.

Yet top of the league, champions of Europe, it is impossible to argue against Tuchel’s appointment now. It is increasingly hard to make the case for Manchester United progressing under Solskjaer. Nobody there is currently going forward.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka does not look a better player than he was at Crystal Palace, nor Maguire at Leicester. Pogba is much better for France. Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay are not greatly advanced.

Fernandes is not as effective as when he arrived, Jadon Sancho can’t get in the team. Fred is as inconsistent as ever.

And Ronaldo? Manchester United play to his weaknesses as much as his strengths. He has still scored 11 goals in 11 games this season, for club and country, but hasn’t struck in the league since September 19 at West Ham.

It suggests that although his reputation creates panic in European and international football, over here the opposition study the evidence and decide it isn’t working. Ronaldo is losing his fear factor under Solskjaer.

And the crux is this — 1,041 days. After 1,041 days no manager should be hoping for change or even overseeing a work in progress. There should be tangible progress. Clear, visible, apparent progress.

Yet Solskjaer, like his players, is going backwards. He can no longer get by on being Not Mourinho. He can no longer earn praise for sunshine, moonlight and good vibes. Winning matches breeds positivity, too. Klopp has always had a great smile. But you see more of it, and wider, after a win.

Manchester United didn’t err giving Solskjaer the job. He deserved it, not just with the way he lifted the place after the standard confrontational end to Mourinho’s time, but because United improved under him.

They won big games, went on a run and it was possible to believe that Solskjaer was a coach who had previously been poorly served by circumstances in English football. Maybe with better personnel, and a healthier club environment, he would thrive.

It was right to give him the chance to demonstrate this. Just as it is right to now search — sadly, in vain — for a sign he can effect further change. And, if not, act accordingly. What are they seeking, the Manchester United executives? Is it a quiet life? Elite football isn’t about that. There are constant challenges, a need for progress, benchmarks that must be set.

Chelsea are in a permanent battle to maintain the highest standards, Manchester City went out and got Guardiola having laid the ground for his arrival across many years, Liverpool did not rest until they had secured Klopp, a wonderful fit at the club, professionally and emotionally.

Manchester United have settled. Not in terms of recruitment because they buy big, but one imagines Solskjaer is considerably less demanding to work with than his predecessors.

It must be nice after the dark clouds that surrounded Mourinho to deal with a less temperamental individual, but that alone is no reason to maintain the status quo. Decisions cannot be made so that Ed Woodward serves out his notice in peace.

Conte immediately delivered the title to Chelsea after a 10th-placed finish the previous season. Conte has a history of managing the biggest names and winning the biggest trophies

Equally, if Solskjaer acted as a human shield for unpopular owners that protection is fast fading.

It was noticeable on Sunday that there was no fury directed at the Glazers. Even those in green and gold could not blame the board for the biggest loss to Liverpool since the days when those were genuinely the club’s colours, as Newton Heath.

They knew where the buck stopped this time. The players, yes, but the manager, too.

They have been incredibly supportive. They have afforded Solskjaer time, encouragement, love and respect.

He remains a hero at Old Trafford. But United need shaking up. And there are coaches available who would shake them up.

One in particular. Conte. Available — and wins wherever he goes. On Sunday, Gary Neville set out why he should not be Manchester United’s manager. Neville, usually so rational, looks pained trying to defend his friend Ole and didn’t really make sense.

Neville’s argument was that Conte isn’t the right fit for United. But what does that mean? That he hasn’t scored the winning goal for them in a Champions League final? That his presence doesn’t cosily nod back to better times? That he is not part of United’s fabric or culture, that his back story is not yet an exhibit in their museum?

Yes, that would be preferable. Just as it would have been marvellous if Glenn Hoddle was Tottenham’s greatest manager and Lampard had matched Tuchel’s achievements at Chelsea.

But United have got the local hero at the wheel and it’s not working. And while that’s a pity, idealistic fantasies are no reason to stick, either.

Conte went to Juventus — where he was Solskjaer and then some having won five titles and the Champions League as a regular, starting player — and won three titles as a manager.

He delivered the title to Chelsea after a 10th-placed finish the previous season. Then he went to Inter Milan and won their first title in 11 seasons. He’s a hitman? Yes. He stayed three years at Juventus, but a two-year stretch is more common. So what?

Nobody thought Guardiola would be in his fifth season at Manchester City but conditions are right so he remains. Conte can be demanding, but are we pretending that Ferguson wasn’t? And Ferguson did close on 27 years.

So just a hitman? Not necessarily. Conte left Juventus to be Italy’s manager and, perhaps, because he was disappointed by what he saw as an absence of investment prior to his final year.

Well, the national coach itch has been scratched and funds are rarely a problem for Manchester United managers, so that’s two obstacles removed. Conte fell out with Diego Costa at Chelsea and angered the club by making this public, therefore damaging their chances of selling him at a premium.

Again this sounds a very local problem. Few clubs, having won the title, would not have cut the manager a little slack over an internal dispute with a difficult player. Chelsea are the exception here, not Conte.

Finally, at Inter, the club spent the summer selling Conte’s title-winning team, to his immense frustration. Romelu Lukaku went to Chelsea, Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain. Recruitment was done on the cheap. Inter turned a £145million profit in the transfer market and are already seven points adrift of the top two.

Is it any wonder Conte was frustrated and, again, how would this be an issue at wealthy Manchester United?

So why should appointing him make them nervous?

Conte is demanding, that much is true. He wants control over transfers and would not be interested in marquee names for the sake of it.

If he thought Ronaldo was a luxury purchase, he would say so and expect the club to listen. Yet is that so bad? Might we presume a 10-time title winner as player and manager knows more about football than Woodward or managing director Richard Arnold?

Questions are also asked about his style of football. It would appear people have very short memories. When Manchester City rewrote the record books under Guardiola, many of the rewrites were of peaks set by Conte.

His 2016-17 Chelsea side broke the record for wins in a Premier League season (30), equalled the record for consecutive wins (13) and home and away victories over different sides (12). Chelsea’s points total was the second highest in history — 93. They scored 85 goals in 38 games, more than Manchester United scored in 11 of 13 title-winning seasons under Ferguson, including both that were played across 42 games.

Yet Conte, apparently, may be too much of a pragmatist for Old Trafford. Again, what does that mean? His defences don’t often get taken apart?

Manchester United are one of the driving forces behind the attempt to outlaw owner sponsorship via related parties and curb Newcastle’s newly-arrived wealth. They’ve been lobbying on this for years, but it is more important than ever right now.

Why? Well, if seven clubs have similar spending power, finishing top four comes down to football. The talent of the players, the intuition of the manager and United are significantly behind their contemporaries in one aspect right now. They do not have a coach, a strategist, of the same calibre as Guardiola, Klopp and Tuchel.

Maybe others will catch up, too — maybe Newcastle when they make their next appointment. Manchester United therefore have to find a way to restore that financial advantage because their football is deficient. And they do not wish to change the football.

They prefer a quiet life when elite status demands anything but. The case for change is now irrefutable, sadly.

Manchester United 'draw up four-man shortlist to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer' with Brendan Rodgers and Ajax's Erik ten Hag joining out-of-work Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure is in jeopardy after a 5-0 defeat against Liverpool
* The Red Devils were destroyed at Old Trafford by Jurgen Klopp's rampant Reds
* And the club is reportedly already considering replacements for the Norwegian
* Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte are believed to be the two leading the way
* Leicester's Brendan Rodgers and Ajax's Erik ten Hag 'also on the four-man list'

Zinedine Zidane and Antonio Conte are both in the race to replace under-pressure Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the club are also reportedly considering Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils are in disarray after a 5-0 mauling at the hands of fierce rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday compounded a poor start to the season with Solskjaer fearing his time in charge may be coming to an end.

And according to The Sun, the club have drawn up a four-man shortlist of potential successors including the out-of-work pair, as well as Leicester's Rodgers and Ajax's Ten Hag.

Zinedine Zidane is reportedly one of two leading the way to take over at Manchester United

Ex-Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is understood to be the other contender

Club chiefs are said to have told a prominent agent to get in contact with several leading managerial names to discern their contract demands and vision for United if they took over.

Although the Red Devils remain reluctant to sack Solskjaer, having handed him a three-year contract extension in July, the Liverpool capitulation was probably the nadir of his reign and could force the club's hand.

Following a day of deafening silence at United, sources emerged to offer Solskjaer lukewarm support on Monday night more than 24 hours after the humiliating defeat.

Brendan Rodgers (left) and Erik ten Hag (right) are also said to make up the four-man shortlist

A vast and immediate improvement in performances and results may extend his stay of execution, but after another lavish summer of spending to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane expectations are understandably higher.

It remains to be seen whether Rodgers' links with Liverpool would affect his chances of landing the United job but he has impressed with Leicester since taking over in 2019.

He has introduced a free-flowing style of play and almost eclipsed several bigger names to qualify for the Champions League two seasons running, only to narrowly miss out twice.

Rodgers did manage to win last season's FA Cup and the Community Shield at the start of the current campaign but ruled himself out of the running to take over at Newcastle last week.

Conte, who is available after leaving Inter Milan earlier this summer, won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2016-17 and retains a reputation as a bonafide winner.

Meanwhile, Zidane secured a record three consecutive Champions League titles with Real Madrid but left the Bernabeu in May.

Ten Hag has won nearly three-quarters of his 181 matches in charge of Ajax since joining from Utrecht in December 2017.

He masterminded their unlikely run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 - where they were narrowly beaten by Tottenham - and has a reputation for playing eye-catching football with young players.

The Dutchman has won two Eredivisie titles but it remains to be seen if he has the pedigree United would look for if they are to change manager.

It emerged on Monday that senior United players are now questioning Solskjaer’s tactics and leadership over concerns that he lacks the experience to get himself out of trouble and is too soft on them.

It is not the first time the 48-year-old has faced an uncertain future since he returned to the club in December 2018. Whereas United have previously offered Solskjaer unequivocal backing, however, the message on Monday night was less emphatic.

Sources stressed the need to pull together and move on from Sunday’s embarrassment, adding that there is nothing to say Solskjaer won’t still be in charge when United visit Tottenham on Saturday.

Solskjaer stays... FOR NOW: Manchester United boss given more time to turn things around after 5-0 Liverpool mauling - but he fears for his long-term future with board set to review his position in December

* Manchester United will keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the club – for now
* The Norwegian oversaw an 'embarrassing' 5-0 home loss by Liverpool last week
* The United board planned to review him in December and that is still the same
* Sir Alex Ferguson paid a visit to Manchester United training on Tuesday

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set for a stay of execution as Manchester United manager but is still fearing for his long-term future at the club.

Solskjaer took training at Carrington on Tuesday for the first time since United’s 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool, a display labelled ‘embarrassing’ by senior players.

The Norwegian is preparing the team for Saturday’s trip to Tottenham amid a backdrop of intense scrutiny and some members of his squad questioning whether the slide can be halted under his management.

Sportsmail understands that United — who gave Solskjaer a new three-year contract over the summer — were planning to review the 48-year-old’s position in December.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will stay as Manchester United boss but his long-term future is in doubt. Solskjaer's position nearly became perilous after a 5-0 home loss by arch-rivals Liverpool. Solskjaer's United play Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City in their next three games

The galling surrender at Old Trafford last weekend has, however, accelerated that process. Board-level talks between co-chairman Joel Glazer, Ed Woodward and managing director Richard Arnold took place on Monday.

United had not been prepared for such a dire run of results, with Solskjaer’s side losing five of their last nine games.

The club’s board has so far resisted the calls for change, with the Norwegian expected to remain in charge at Spurs. Sir Alex Ferguson and former chairman Martin Edwards visited Carrington on Tuesday afternoon, with United insisting the pair were attending a pre-planned commitment.

United were planning on reviewing Solskjaer's position in December and that has not changed

Ferguson has been a champion of his former striker and there has always been reticence to change at the top when United have fallen on troubling spells of form in previous campaigns.

Yet Solskjaer now faces three huge games — Tottenham, a Champions League clash at Atalanta and then the derby against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City — that look likely to determine his prospects.

Solskjaer is currently in the middle of a rare full week on the training ground in an attempt to arrest the slump in form.

Some players have privately raised concern over the tempo of sessions and believe they are being consistently outsmarted tactically by opponents.

Glazer, based in Florida, has been watching developments with interest but senior United sources were adamant last night that no approaches for potential successors had been made after Antonio Conte, the former Chelsea boss, expressed an interest in a move.

Although formerly of Liverpool, Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers has admirers at United — along with Ajax’s Erik ten Hag.
