Default Re: David de Gea Quintana

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's best business yet: Persuading David De Gea to stay at United is a masterstroke… and with Harry Maguire set to lead the defence, fans can expect the Spaniard to return to top form

* There were real fears that David De Gea was going to leave Manchester United
* His £375,000-a-week deal will sting but makes perfect business sense
* If he wants to quit Old Trafford a year from now he will command a huge fee
* Building a team is a jigsaw but with De Gea the first piece is firmly in place

With world-class players at a premium, the news that goalkeeper David De Gea is to sign a new contract at Old Trafford gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a massive boost during a difficult period for the club.

Paul Pogba's future and Alexis Sanchez's injury problems can be temporarily set aside as Solskjaer knows there is one position – the No 1 – he doesn't have to worry about any more.

There were genuine fears 28-year-old De Gea was going to leave, an additional problem United didn't need as they seek a new identity and young fresh faces after a dismal sixth-place finish last season.

PSG, Juventus and Real Madrid were all circling United like vultures as the Spaniard went into the final 12 months of his contract.

Negotiations to keep him have been long, arduous and not cheap. But while a £375,000-a-week deal may draw comparisons to Sanchez or Mesut Ozil at Arsenal as a lot of money down the drain, this contract actually makes business sense.

David De Gea is set to sign a massive new deal with Manchester United after agreeing terms. It is a masterstroke from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to persuade the Spaniard to stay put. The goalkeeper could return to his best form with the certainty of a new deal behind him

If De Gea has itchy feet in a year's time his market value would be £70million at least, dwarfing the £19.5m they will pay him over the next 12 months.

Of course, United won't want it to come to that – the win-win scenario is De Gea returns to the form that saw him judged the best goalkeeper in the world and United can build from the back towards another trophy-laden era.

For all the publicity about Sir Alex Ferguson believing in youth, pace and energy, he always maintained that a club with the might of Manchester United should buy and keep the best in the business.

He did it time and time again with Peter Schmeichel, Roy Keane, Jaap Stam, Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Robin van Persie and De Gea himself – the £19m price tag from Atletico Madrid raising eyebrows back in 2011.

De Gea has since repaid United's judgment many times, winning a clean sweep of the domestic trophies – Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup – and keeping 128 clean sheets in 362 appearances. His peers have voted him five times into his Premier League team of the year.

His 14 saves against Arsenal in 2017, where he was described as a 'one-man spider's web', is regarded as one of the great individual Premier League performances.

Last season, he finally seemed to be affected by United's post-Ferguson malaise, or was he distracted by where his future lay? He dropped a rick to Ronaldo in the World Cup and took that uncharacteristically jittery form back to Old Trafford.

United will believe once the contract is announced, it will be the old De Gea back – starting when they welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

'We've got the best goalkeeper in the world,' said Solskjaer shortly after taking over from Jose Mourinho.

He was desperate to keep him and perhaps fortunate that FFP restrictions prevented PSG from making a bid to blow United out the water, given they have Neymar and Kylian Mbappe already on their books.

De Gea was a raw youngster when he joined United and took 12 months to come to terms with they physicality of the Premier League. Paul Scholes, who was still at the club, admitted having initial doubts about him. 'He has proven those who believed in him right. He has gone on to save United so many times,' he says.

Now Solskjaer will look to De Gea, a possible captain of this team, as one of the senior figures in the dressing-room as he rebuilds. Nobody has reflexes like him.

If there is one weakness, it is the way he commands his penalty area and that may become less important if United buy Harry Maguire, so dominant in the air that England manager Gareth Southgate noted: 'He gets his bonce on everything'.

United have plenty of issues to resolve. Will Pogba and Romelu Lukaku stay? Can they add Maguire and others to the signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James? Can Alexis Sanchez justify his sky-high salary?

Building a football team is like building a jigsaw. At least Solskjaer looks as if he has the first piece on the board in place.

David de Gea wants to take over as Manchester United captain when he signs £114MILLION, six-year deal following pre-season tour

* David de Gea is set to end speculation he could leave Manchester United
* He will sign a new £375,000-a-week contract until 2025 after pre-season tour
* Spain goalkeeper is one of the candidates to take the armband at Old Trafford

David de Gea wants to be Manchester United captain after committing his long-term future to the club.

De Gea will sign a new £375,000-a-week contract until 2025 when United return from their pre-season tour, ending speculation that he could leave Old Trafford as a free agent next summer.

The Spain goalkeeper is one of the candidates to become United's permanent captain after being handed the armband on several occasions in the past, and says he would welcome the honour.

'I've been captain for some games and, of course, it is amazing to be captain of a club like Manchester United and defend this badge,' said De Gea before United left Singapore for Shanghai.

'It's amazing, so of course I'll be really, really happy to be captain. It's my ninth season and I feel like one of the most experienced players. I need to show that on the pitch and try to help the young guys know what Manchester United means and that's important.'

The 28-year-old admits that last season wasn't good enough for a club of United's stature as they missed out a place in the Champions League and failed to win a trophy.

De Gea was also guilty of some uncharacteristic errors towards the end of the campaign, bringing pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to drop his keeper.

But after United won their first three games on tour against Perth Glory, Leeds United and Inter Milan ahead of Thursday's International Champions Cup clash with Tottenham in Shanghai, confidence is high that they can be much stronger this season.

'We have to improve a lot,' added De Gea. 'We are Manchester United, we need to fight for trophies.

'When you put on this badge, that's what it means: fight for everything, give your best and bring the team again to the top.

'I think this pre-season we're trying to have more of the ball, to keep the ball, to build from the back and to keep control of the game – things we didn't have last season.

'We have to improve a lot on this. We are working really hard this pre-season, and hopefully we can show it in the first game against Chelsea that we have improved a lot from last season.'

United have only made two new signings, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James, as the transfer deadline looms on August 8.

However, both players have made a good impression on tour with Wan-Bissaka in particular demonstrating why Solskjaer was so keen to bring him in as his first-choice right back.

De Gea said: 'He's shown in the last two or three games that he has pace, good with the ball, great defender, so he's a good signing for us.'

De Gea Akan Jadi Kapten Permanen MU?
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

Manchester - Manchester United sedang mencari kapten baru sepeninggal Antonio Valencia. Kiper Spanyol David de Gea menjadi salah satu kandidat terkuat.

'He is staying and now we move on and build on that': Peter Schmeichel claims Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has signed new contract

* David de Gea has entered the final year of his Manchester United contract
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to extend his contract at Old Trafford
* Peter Schmeichel claims the Spanish goalkeeper has already extended his deal

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has signed a new contract with the club, claims former No 1 Peter Schmeichel.

The future of the Spain international has been uncertain for several months with him having entered the final year of his current deal at Old Trafford.

But Schmeichel, who played for the club between 1991 and 1999, has eased any fears that De Gea might be on his way out by claiming an agreement to extend his contract has been reached.

Goalkeeper David de Gea has entered the final year of his contract at Manchester United. Former United No 1 Peter Schmeichel claims the club have 'tied him down' to a new contract

The United legend told The Mirror: 'David was a great signal that we start off with arguably our best performer over the last five years.

'We have tied him down, he is staying and now we move on and build on that.'

Tying down De Gea would come as a huge boost to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Spaniard has been United's best player in recent times.

Schmeichel's son Kasper, who has won the Premier League with Leicester, has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford should De Gea leave.

David de Gea told he is NO LONGER automatic first choice for Spain by new manager Robert Moreno... who has already dropped him three times!

* David de Gea dipped out of the Spain line-up over their last three matches
* Robert Moreno decided to pick Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga instead of him
* He has now made it clear that there will be no automatic first choice for Spain

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been told he is no longer Spain's No 1.

De Gea had been the automatic first choice for Spain since the end of Vicente del Bosque's time in charge but recently dropped out of the side under new manager Robert Moreno.

Moreno selected Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga in net for the last three Spain matches.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been told he is no longer Spain's No 1. He has recently dropped out of the side under new Spain manager Robert Moreno. De Gea is back in form for his club but Moreno has made it clear he is not guaranteed a place

While that coincided with a dip in De Gea's form for both club and country, there was an expectation that he would return to the starting line-up for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

However, Moreno has made it clear that it will not be that simple for the 39-cap stopper.

'My goalkeepers are De Gea, Kepa and [Roma's] Pau Lopez,' Moreno told radio station Cadena SER.

'I like that there is competition. Kepa is not ahead of De Gea, and neither is ahead of Pau.

'I want to get to the Euros with three goalkeepers who are ready to compete. They are all playing at a high level and there are nuances and differences between them. All three have good footwork.

'At Barca, we won the treble alternating goalkeepers.'

semoga performa Chelsea yg belum stabil & belum meraih kemenangan membuat posisi Kepa di timnas goyah & mudah2an dengan performa United yg akan semakin membaik membuat De Gea kembali ke posisi kiper utama. sayang krmn tendangan Neves gak berhasil ditepis, kalo gak Moreno pasti akan kembali menunjuk De Gea sbg kiper utama

Manchester United 'sweating over David de Gea contract and may have to wait until JANUARY for goalkeeper to sign £350,000-a-week deal'

* David de Gea is yet to put pen to paper on a new six-year deal at Old Trafford
* The Spanish goalkeeper's current deal expires at the end of the current season
* De Gea could keep United waiting until January before he signs fresh terms

Manchester United are sweating over the future of David de Gea after learning he could wait until as late as January before signing a new £350,000 a week contract.

The goalkeeper's current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, meaning he could sign pre-contract terms with another club in January.

As a result, United are keen for him to pen fresh terms immediately but The Sun has reported that De Gea is yet to sign and could wait for a further four months.

David de Gea could make Manchester United wait until January before signing his new deal. De Gea has just 12 months remaining on his deal, after which he could leave on a free transfer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named De Gea as his captain in each game so far this season

Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be interested in the Spain international, who would be certain to spark a frenzy for his signature were he not to sign.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named De Gea as his captain in each game so far this season and is relying on the 28-year-old to be a mainstay of his new-look side.

United also have another potential contractual headache as their players are obliged to take a 25 per cent pay cut if they don't qualify for the Champions League.

That means De Gea's salary would drop to £263,000 a week were Solskjaer's side to fail to finish in the top four or win the Europa League this season.

Earlier this summer United triggered a clause in De Gea's contract enabling them to extend his deal by a further year but they won't have that option next summer.

udah dikasih ban kapten sesuai permintaan, mudah2an De Gea bertahan. kayaknya Ole lebih 'mementingkan' dan menganggap De Gea leboh vital perannya daripada Pogba, berkaitan dengan siapa yg menjadi kapten

David de Gea 'on cusp of signing new Manchester United contract following months of negotiations after agreeing £290,000-a-week deal that puts him on same basic wage as Paul Pogba'

* Manchester United keeper David de Gea is close to signing a new contract
* The deal would see De Gea earn the same basic wage as midfielder Paul Pogba
* The Spanish stopper's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season

Manchester United are close to agreeing a new deal with goalkeeper David de Gea that will see him earn wage parity with Paul Pogba, according to The Guardian.

The 28-year-old Spaniard's current deal is set to expire at the end of the current season, with several clubs interested in his services.

However, the new proposal will see De Gea earn £290,000 a week to reach parity with the club's record signing Paul Pogba.

David de Gea is close to agreeing a new Manchester United deal worth £290,000 a week

De Gea joined the Old Trafford club in 2011 and has made 366 appearances, winning the Premier League in 2013, plus one FA Cup, one League Cup and one Europa League title.

One of boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's main tasks was to secure the futures of key players within the squad.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are among those to recently pen new deals, and the club hierarchy believe De Gea will be the next to sign.

The deal would also restore the market value of a player who was entering the final nine months of his existing deal and ensure he cannot leave for free.

De Gea had previously attracted strong interest from Real Madrid, but their signing of Thibaut Courtois last summer has ended hopes of him joining the rivals of boyhood club Atletico Madrid.

David de Gea has been 'AVERAGE' for six months for Manchester United, insists former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer... and he believes they could choose to let him go

* David de Gea has made a number of goalkeeping errors that have cost results
* Manchester United could let De Gea leave, believes Mark Schwarzer
* The former Chelsea goalkeeper thinks De Gea has been 'average' for six months

Manchester United have been getting 'average performances' for months from David de Gea, according to former Chelsea and Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

The Spaniard has come under scrutiny this season after errors against Crystal Palace and Southampton.

And Schwarzer, speaking to Goal, believes his performances could see United decide to cash in, rather than bow to his demands during ongoing contract negotiations.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in him should he become available on a free transfer.

With contract negotiations taking place while he makes a number of high-profile mistakes, Schwarzer is not convinced the club will keep him if his value decreases.

'They will have to come to a decision at some point on whether his value is the same as what he is asking for,' he told Goal.

David de Gea has produced 'average performances' for six months, believes Mark Schwarzer. The Spaniard has made a number of high-profile mistakes during United's opening four games

'There's speculation about him and then there's the fact that he may still choose to leave.

'Ultimately there comes the point where your history and your past performances only get you so far. It is about now. If you look at his last six months, his average performances haven't been anywhere near what they have been in the past.

'If you break it down, a lot of goals have come from direct mistakes from De Gea. Probably more than in the entire six or seven-year period before. There is always a balancing act as a player. What's your current value? Your recent performances come into that.'

David de Gea 'finally signs new deal to become Manchester United's highest-paid player… and goalkeeper will take home £13.3m a season AFTER TAX'

* David de Gea has reportedly committed his future to Manchester United

* The news puts an end to speculation linking him with a return to Spain

David de Gea has finally committed his long-term future to Manchester United after the Spaniard put pen to paper on a five-year deal, according to reports.

United's No 1 has agreed to the new contract which will see him rake in a staggering £13.3million a season after tax, making him the club's best-paid player.

According to the Daily Record, the contract includes an optional fifth year and sees him surpass Paul Pogba at the top of the wage bill.

David de Gea has reportedly committed his long-term future to Manchester United. The Spaniard signed an improved five-year deal worth a staggering £13.3million a season

The news will bring an end to reports linking him with a return to his native Spain, with Real Madrid keen to bring him back in recent years.

He was also linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus earlier this summer but De Gea has insisted that he loves the Red Devils, according to his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian boss admitted that he was confident that a deal would be completed this week and it appears he has got his wish.

'I'm very - or pretty - confident we'll get this sorted,' Solskjaer said. 'David has never, ever said anything else to me, other than he loves this club, he wants to stay here and he's had a fantastic time, so let's hope we just get it over the line.

‘He's the best goalkeeper in the world, we've seen that over the years, and I hope I can make sure he'll finish his career at Manchester United at the highest level.

‘There have been loads of talks, lots of discussions, between David and the club and hopefully we can get it done.’
