Default Re: Bryan Robson

salah satu United Legend nih ....

taken from ManUtd.com -

It was a fitting climax to United's 1992/93 FA Premier League championship season when Bryan Robson scored the campaign's last goal to clinch a 2-1 victory against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park.

Six days earlier 'Captain Marvel' had jointly accepted the FA Premier League trophy with Steve Bruce as the curtain came down on an Old Trafford season in which a 26-year wait for the game's ultimate domestic honour was finally over.

Back and hamstring problems had blighted Robson's season, but in typical fashion he fought bravely to reclaim his place. Indeed, various injuries plagued so much of his

remarkable career for club and country, that it was laughably suggested at times by the media that he should ease up! For such a fiercely committed and courageous player it was perhaps just an inevitable price that had to be paid.

In his early days with West Bromwich Albion, three leg breaks inside a year threatened his future, but with great determination he somehow made a complete recovery.

He had appeared in close on 200 league games for the Baggies, scoring 39 goals, when new United boss Ron Atkinson returned to his former club and paid a joint fee of around £2 million to bring both Robson and Remi Moses to Old Trafford in October 1981. The deal rated 'Robbo' at a then-record £1.5 million.

Some doubted Atkinson's wisdom, but Robson was destined to become one of the game's midfield greats. He quickly grew in stature, replacing Ray Wilkins as club captain, a player with whom he enjoyed such a fine understanding and one who helped develop Bryan's already mature reading of the game.

A supreme motivational force, Robson in his prime was a shining diamond, blessed with a seemingly endless supply of stamina, great creative passing skills in attack or defence, controlled

aggression in the tackle, plus the added bonus of genuine pace and powerful shooting and heading ability.

Robson scored well over a century of league goals in his career – many from steaming late blind side runs into the area. But perhaps above all, he was an inspiring captain for both club and country, uniquely leading United to a hat-trick of FA Cup wins in 1983,1985 and 1990. In the 1983 final against Brighton and Hove Albion he scored twice in the 4-0 replay victory.

He was a League Cup finalist in 1991 and collected a prized European medal when he lifted the Cup Winners' Cup in the same season.

Robson won 90 caps for England, wearing the Three Lions in three World Cups. His 26 international goals included a hat-trick against Turkey in 1984, and a strike afer just 27 seconds against France in the 1982 World Cup, which was the second-fastest goal of the tournament’s final stages.

In his final two seasons Robson started only 15 Premiership matches, but usually made a telling contribution when called upon and could hardly have ended his illustrious career on a more satisfying note than seeing United complete the coveted League and Cup Double in 1994.

An early recruit by England's new manager Terry Venables as coach and right-hand man, Robson was quickly snapped up on a lucrative contract by Middlesbrough when he announced his impending exit from Old Trafford. After seven seasons there as manager in June 2001, and following a relegation battle, Robson left in June 2001.

He later resurfaced with his first club, West Bromwich Albion with whom he completed a remarkable escape from Premiership relegation in 2004/05 – becoming the first boss to lead a team bottom at Christmas to safety in the Premiership’s short history.

However, a year later the Baggies dropped down to the Championship. They were favourites to win promotion back to the Premiership at the first attempt, but after taking only twelve points from their first eight games, Robson left the club by mutual consent on 18 September 2006.

Agar ke Piala Dunia 2014, Thailand Incar Robson Jadi Pelatih

BANGKOK, KOMPAS.com - Asosiasi Sepak Bola Thailand terus berupaya meningkatkan kualitas permainan tim nasionalnya.

Mantan kapten Inggris Bryan Robson menjadi incaran.

Sedangkan bersama timnas Inggris, Robson 99 kali tampil, termasuk ketika memperkuat "The Three Lions" di tiga Piala Dunia.

Bryan Robson Segera Latih Thailand
Muchamad Syuhada - Okezone

BANGKOK - Timnas Thailand baru saja ditinggal pelatih asal Inggris Peter Reid.

Profesional donk PSSI !!!

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson signs four-year deal to take charge of Thailand

Former England and Manchester United captain Bryan Robson will begin work as Thailand coach next week after signing a four-year contract.

The 52-year-old replaces Peter Reid, who left last month to become assistant coach at Stoke, and will arrive in Bangkok next Thursday before beginning work the following day.

Robson's first task will be to guide Thailand to a place in the Asian Cup finals in Qatar in 2011, starting with home and away games against Singapore next month.

Robson's previous managerial experience has included spells at Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Bradford and West Brom and Thai FA president Worawi Makudi is confident he is capable of continuing the successful work started by Reid.

'I studied his profile before I decided to approach him to become Thailand's national coach,' Worawi said in the Bangkok Post.

'He helped Middlesbrough reach the FA Cup and the League Cup finals. He was England's assistant coach during the European Championship in 1996 when England lost to Germany on penalties in the semi-finals.

'I'd like Thai fans to give him a chance to prove his ability.'

SINGAPORE - Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson's first competitive match as coach of Thailand ended in a 3-1 victory over Singapore in a Group E Asian Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Winger Suksomkit Suttee gave the former England captain's side the lead from the penalty spot in the 12th minute after a handball in the area.

Substitute Therdsak Chaiman volleyed home the second, against the run of play, with 14 minutes to go and Suksomkit added a third with a right foot finish five minutes later.

Mustafic Fahrudin scored a late consolation from the penalty spot for the hosts.

Bryan Robson: Manchester United's squad depth gives them title edge over Chelsea
-mirrorfootball.co.uk-

Bryan Robson believes Manchester United's superior squad strength will ultimately give them the edge over Chelsea in the title race.

Sir Alex Ferguson's back-four has been decimated for tonight's Champions League tie in Wolfsburg, with the United boss missing 10 defenders for the game that will decide who wins Group B.

United's personnel has been stretched to the limit without Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Jonny Evans and the Da Silva twins, as well as long-term absentee Owen Hargreaves.

Midfielders Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick are set to play in central defence, with winger Antonio Valencia at right-back and Patrice Evra - the only recognised fit defender at Fergie's disposal - in his usual left-back role.

But former United skipper Robson believes such versatility will give United a crucial advantage over Chelsea - particularly when Carlo Ancelotti loses key players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien to the African Nations Cup in January.

"It's the adaptability of some of the United players that's the key," said Robson. "You saw at West Ham when Carrick had to play centre-half, he looked like he could play there.

"He reads the game well and is a good passer of the ball. We've always known at United that Fletcher could play anywhere and not let you down, so there's a flexibility about the squad.

"If you're a centre-half and go into midfield then there's a big difference because suddenly you have your back to the play. But with the defensive qualities of Carrick and Fletcher – who I think could play centre-half as well as right-back - it won't really be a problem."

Chelsea's 2-1 defeat at Manchester City at the weekend saw their lead over United cut to two points, and looks to have dashed Ancelotti's hopes of building a significant advantage before losing key figures like Drogba and Essien next month.

As such, Robson has backed United to win an historic fourth successive title and record-breaking 19th in all, beating arch rivals Liverpool's long-standing record.

"There's a long way to go but United are right where they want to be at the moment, especially with the fixtures they have coming up," said Robson.

"The key question is how much Chelsea are going to be affected by the African Nations Cup.

"They'll probably have four players away but Drogba and Essien are big, big players for them.

"Drogba is a big influence on Chelsea and so if the Ivory Coast do well in that competition, he'll be missed.

"It's always the same in any season – you get to Christmas and you look at where you are. After the weekend, Alex must be quite pleased with where he is.

"Starting with Aston Villa at the weekend – which is going to be perhaps the toughest game – the fixtures look pretty good over the next seven or eight matches.

"You could see United, after winning their last two away games, putting in a pretty good run going into the New Year.

"Over the last two years United have shown they're a strong squad and the young ones who are developing will become even better as they're coming through.

"United don’t have to prove the character of the squad, they've proved that over many seasons.

"They have won the title three times on the belt and you can already see the desire to win it a fourth time.

"Just looking at the fixtures it wouldn't surprise me if they were top by the time they play at Arsenal on January 31."

And asked if he would rather have Wayne Rooney or Drogba leading his attack, Robson was unequivocal. "Rooney every day," he said. "For his work rate, his mentality, his toughness.

"I'm not going to knock Drogba, he's a top player and most managers would want him in the team. In fact, I’d like both of them but if I had to pick one, it would be Wayne.

"He could set all kinds of records if he steers clear of injury. He's a young lad and when you're young you find you don’t get as many injuries.

"But the wear and tear of twisting and tackling makes you that bit more susceptible to injury as you get older."

United's defensive crisis is so drastic that Oliver Gill, son of Old Trafford chief executive David, has been drafted into the squad for tonight's final group game.

Gill, an 19-year-old central defender who only signed a professional terms with United in July, joined more unfamilar names in Magnus Eikrem, Cameron Stewart, Matt James and Oliver Norwood in the United squad.

Robson has watched Gill's development through the ranks at United and has been impressed with what he has seen. "He played with my son Ben at Manchester Grammar," said Robson.

"He looked a good player because he was two years younger than the teams he was playing in.

"Manchester Grammar used him in big cup games and he looked a decent player there, although when I saw him he mostly played in midfield."

Bryan Robson wants to see a goalscoring midfielder at Manchester United
-goal.com-

Legend would like a 'Gerrard or Lampard' type at Old Trafford...

Former Manchester United midfielder Bryan Robson is keen to see Sir Alex Ferguson add a few more new players to his squad before the beginning of the new Premier League season.

Robson in particular would like to see more goalscoring threat added to the Red Devils' midfield.

“Personally, I'd like to see the boss sign another couple of players," Robson, who is with the club on their pre-season tour of North America in his role as an ambassador, told United's official website.

"It would be great if we could bring in a goalscoring midfielder. You look at the likes of [Steven] Gerrard and [Frank] Lampard, who contribute so many goals from midfield, and I think that's an area we need to improve on.

“Also, having lost [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Carlos] Tevez last year I think one more striker would be a good addition as well, although [Javier] Hernandez certainly looked promising at the World Cup.

"He didn't get a lot of time on the pitch, but he showed good movement, nice touches and clearly has an eye for goal.”

The former England midfielder also insists that the United players will be keener than ever to begin the season and attempt to wrest the Premier League title back from Chelsea.

"After losing out in the big competitions the lads will be more determined than ever this time round," he added.

"It's a long summer when you've lost two big trophies and they’ll be desperate to get going again."
