Re: [El Clasico] Barcelona vs Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi get their own emojis as Twitter celebrates El Clasico with special Barcelona and Real Madrid characters
* Real Madrid take on Barcelona in La Liga title clash at the Bernabeu this weekend * Twitter releases special edition emojis including Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos * Barcelona could retake top spot in the table if they beat their greatest rivals * Real Madrid will have a six-point lead and a game in hand if they beat Barcelona If you needed any reminder of just how big this weekend's El Clasico is, Twitter have delivered it in the form of nine special edition emojis, including bespoke caricatures of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Real Madrid play host to their great rivals Barcelona on Sunday evening in a fixture that will have massive repercussions for the La Liga title race. But while the players will be intensely focused in the build-up to Spanish football's biggest match, fans of both clubs have been invited to have some fun on Twitter by using the new emojis between now and Sunday. Three players from each side have been selected to appear with Messi joined by striker Luis Suarez and defender Gerard Pique. Karim Benzema and captain Sergio Ramos make up the Real Madrid trio alongside Ronaldo. Twitter users can generate any one of nine El Casico emojis using the appropriate hashtags To boot, fans can also generate their club crest by typing #HalaMadrid or #ForcaBarcelona while typing #ElClasico will see a half-and-half kit appear in any tweet. The emojis will ensure even more coverage of what has become one of the most anticipated sporting fixtures across the globe. Not only are Barcelona and Real Madrid determined to win for bragging rights, but the winner could well end up with the league title as well. Real Madrid sit three points ahead of Barcelona and also, crucially, have a game in hand. Beating Luis Enrique's men would give them a six-point advantage, which could then be extended to nine points if they beat Celta Vigo if their rearranged match. But Barcelona have plenty to fight for. Their superior goal difference means they can retake top spot with a famous win at the Bernabeu and Real Madrid's Champions League exploits means a win at Celta Vigo is far from assured. Messi and Co will be boosted by their last league visit to the Bernabeu in 2015, when they won 4-0 courtesy of goals from Luis Suarez, Neymar and Andres Iniesta. Real Madrid got their own back in the return fixture, however, winning 2-1 at the Nou Camp thanks to a late Ronaldo goal, although it did not stop Luis Enrique's side from securing the title. Code:
EL CLASICO RECORD Matches: 265 Real Madrid wins: 97 Barcelona wins: 109 Draws: 59 Real Madrid goals: 434 Barcelona goals: 460 Code:
