Guardiola Tak Suka Rumah Ed Woodward Diserang Fans
Mohammad Resha Pratama - detikSport

Mereka melemparkan flare merah melewati pagar rumah Woodward.

Ed Woodward backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and insists Man United are laying foundations for 'long term success' despite fall in revenues and £73m rise in debt last year

* Woodward has reiterated his support for Manchester United boss Solskjaer
* It comes as United announced disappointing second quarter 2019 figures
* Broadcast and matchday revenues fell, while net debt increased sharply
* United's participation in the Europa League was to blame for most of the figures

Ed Woodward has reiterated his support for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - as the club's finances take a continued hit from the absence of Champions League football.

The United executive vice chairman believes the Old Trafford outfit is making progress with a squad rebuild and that they have a foundation to 'deliver long-term success' under the Norwegian.

He also promised a 'planned, disciplined approach' to summer transfer business.

Ed Woodward has once again backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to deliver 'long-term success' at Manchester United despite a decrease in revenues and an increase in net debt. Solskjaer has United in fifth position in the Premier League, while the team are competing for silverware in the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League

United announced their second quarter figures this lunchtime, and much of it does not make for pleasant reading.

Broadcast, matchday and overall revenues are down, with a rise in commercial revenue bucking the trend. Operating profit is also down, while debt is up to £391.3m, however, the gross debt remains the same.

Many of the losses, compared with the same period last year, are down to the club's participation in the Europa League, rather than the Champions League.

Questions have been asked of Solskjaer, with United fifth in the Premier League and 38 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool, but Woodward sounded his backing.

'We are pushing for a strong finish in the Premier League, the Europa League and the FA Cup as we enter the final third of the season,' he said.

'We have continued to make progress on our squad rebuild, with many changes in terms of players that we have brought in and players that have come through our Academy; the foundation for delivering the long-term success that we are all working towards is in place as we implement our plan and our footballing vision with Ole.'

The Old Trafford club are paying the price for once again being in the Europa League this season as opposed to the Champions League

United expect revenue to be between £560m and £580m for the year, down on last year's record £627.1m. Across town City, recently banned from the Champions League, think they will bring in £560m.

Speaking to investors, Woodward declared that United's 'number one priority' is 'winning trophies with a team playing entertaining, attacking football'.

He added: 'This season is one of rebuild, with many changes to the squad – in terms of players who have left or gone out on loan; new players who we have brought into the Club; and Academy graduates that we have brought through to the first team.'

He also joked that the club had been linked with 111 players in the previous transfer window. 'Our acquisition of just one of them - Bruno Fernandes - is an important step in that direction,' he added.

'Demonstrating our commitment to adding experienced, world-class recruits to the exciting crop of Academy graduates that are at the heart of this developing team. We will take the same planned, disciplined, approach this coming summer.'

Woodward also praised the role played by the club's academy. 'In addition to the first team signings, somewhat under the radar, we have also made a number of exciting youth acquisitions in the past year, reflecting our commitment to bringing the best talent into our Academy,' he said.

'So far our Academy graduates have contributed over a third of first team playing minutes this season and over half of our goals emphasizing our Academy's status as one of the most productive in elite-level European football.'

Woodward acknowledged that United still have some way to go to reach previous heights. 'While we still have much to do, we are progressing with confidence in the right direction,' he said.

Before the call started, Woodward paid tribute to Busby Babe Harry Gregg, who passed away last week aged 87.

'Harry was one of the heroes of the Munich air disaster and a key member of Sir Matt's team of talented young players, making 247 appearances for the club,' he said.

'To echo Sir Alex (Ferguson's) words, Harry was a man of great character and a true legend at our club. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.'

Group managing director Richard Arnold also hailed the club's impact on social media and pointed out that the loan signing of Odion Ighalo caused more interest than the Donald Trump impeachment and Brexit day on Twitter.

Woodward was later asked about City and their Champions League ban. 'I am not going to comment on City or any other clubs,' he said.

'I will say I go to a lot of UEFA meetings and I see a strong commitment to ensure that Financial Fair Play continues to deliver the benefits it clearly has.' He also refused to comment on progress to replace shirt sponsor Chevrolet.

Ed Woodward 'relishing chance of showdown with Daniel Levy' as Manchester United chief is eager to pit his wits against Spurs' tough negotiator in pursuit of Harry Kane

* Man United chief Ed Woodward would relish showdown talks with Daniel Levy
* United may make a move for Spurs star Harry Kane this summer to lead the line
* However, United would have to go through tough negotiator Levy to sign him
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a striker to lead the line for his side

Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward is reportedly 'relishing the chance' to hold crunch talks with Spurs chief Daniel Levy over a potential signing of Harry Kane this summer.

United have long been admirers of the Spurs star and with fresh speculation surrounding the England captain's future, the Old Trafford club may look to go in for Kane once again at the end of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been in the market for a striker to lead the line for his side, with the club failing to secure a deal for Erling Haaland in January and opting for Odion Ighalo on loan.

Ed Woodward is reportedly 'relishing' the chance to pit his wits against Daniel Levy of Spurs. It comes as United look to land a striker to lead the line, with Harry Kane an obvious target. United would have to strike a deal with tough negotiator Levy if they want to secure a deal

Kane has been identified as a strong candidate to fill that role, although Spurs are reportedly unwilling to let their star go at any point, with Jose Mourinho planning to rebuild his squad around the marksman.

But the Evening Standard reports that United chief Woodward is relishing the opportunity to pit his wits against Levy, who has a reputation for being an extremely shrewd operator.

United notably backed away from pursuing a deal for Luka Modric while the Croatia international was at Spurs as former boss Sir Alex Ferguson was reluctant to enter into negotiations with Levy, but Woodward is backing himself to strike a deal.

Woodward has had interactions with Spurs before, with United sniffing around Mauricio Pochettino before appointing Solskjaer as permanent boss last year, as well as going in for Gareth Bale before the Welshman joined Real Madrid.

Default Re: Ed Woodward

WOODWARD ADDRESSES FANS ON CORONAVIRUS IMPACT

Ed Woodward has told fans that Manchester United will remain committed to supporting people and communities affected by coronavirus for as long as the pandemic continues.

United’s executive vice-chairman discussed the club’s response to the crisis - and its impact on football - in an address to the quarterly Fans’ Forum on Friday. With the lockdown in place, the meeting was held remotely via conference call for the first time.

Speaking on the call, Woodward said: “I’d like to reinforce that our thoughts are with everyone affected by the pandemic, and especially those who have lost people close to them. Our top priority has been doing what is necessary to help slow the spread of the virus, and that will remain our guiding principle.

“On behalf of everyone at Manchester United, I want to pay tribute to the heroic work being done by the NHS and all key workers in fighting the virus. We are proud to support those efforts, with club medical supplies, protective equipment and food donated to local hospitals, and gift packs to NHS workers.”

Woodward also indicated that United are working on additional initiatives with the NHS: “After discussion with local NHS trusts, there is more support to come from the club in this area.”
Food poverty across Manchester is another growing concern which the fans and the club are working to address. Woodward continued: “We recognise that this is an economic crisis as well as a health crisis and that many vulnerable members of our community will be affected. That’s why we have donated over 30,000 items of food and drink to local charities, and made a £100,000 joint-donation with Manchester City to the Trussell Trust for use by 19 food banks across Greater Manchester.

“I’d like to put on record our appreciation for the role of the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust in helping co-ordinate this latter donation, building on the excellent work that they normally do collecting for food banks on match days.”

Thousands of staff from across the club have been part of the response plan and Woodward said it was a “crucial priority” for the club to support them. He added: “Protecting our people is another crucial priority. That’s why we continued to pay them in full, without recourse to the Government’s current furlough scheme, and made goodwill payments to over 3,000 casual workers to protect their incomes while our operations are disrupted. Of course, everyone is grappling with the economic realities of the pandemic and we are no different, so the longer the crisis continues the greater the impact will be for every club, including ourselves.”

Many of those staff teamed up with club legends, including Bryan Robson, Andy Cole and Gary Pallister, to make welfare calls to over 3,000 elderly and vulnerable supporters.
“We will continue looking for more ways of supporting those in need for as long as the pandemic continues. This is consistent with our values as a club, our strong roots into our community, and the deep relationships we have with our fans,” said Woodward.

“It is also important to acknowledge the part played by our successful business in allowing us to fulfil our social responsibilities. We have always believed that our commercial model gives us greater resilience than most clubs and we are grateful for the enduring support of our commercial partners in helping us achieve that.”

Despite this underlying resilience, Woodward stressed the need for realism about the impact of the pandemic. He cautioned that: “Nobody should be under any illusions about the scale of challenge facing everyone in football and it may not be ‘business as usual’ for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer.
“As ever, the priority is the success of team but we need visibility of the impact across the whole industry, including timings of the transfer window, and the wider financial picture, before we can talk about a return to normality.

“On this basis, I cannot help feeling that speculation around transfers of individual players for hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seems to ignore the realities that face the sport.”

Woodward concluded that Manchester United remains hopeful of completing the current season and committed to continuing a series of measures to improve the matchday experience at Old Trafford.
“Like all of you, we are eager to see the team return to the field as soon as we are advised it is safe to do so, hopefully to complete a season which still held so much promise for us in the Premier League, the Europa League and the FA Cup, when it was suspended.

“We are in constant dialogue with our governing bodies about when and how that will happen and we will continue to engage with this Forum to keep fans consulted.
“And while it may be that games need to be played behind closed doors in the shorter term, we all recognise that football will not be fully back to normal until supporters are once again in attendance.

“As today’s agenda shows, we are pushing ahead with a series of initiatives to enhance the matchday experience at Old Trafford, including the expansion of the dedicated atmosphere section of the Stretford End, the planned trial of rail seating, and the completion of our expanded state-of-the-art facilities for disabled supporters.
“These matters pale in comparison with the immediate priority of fighting coronavirus. But they give us things to look forward to when we are eventually allowed back to Old Trafford to watch football. It will be a very special day when that happens. In the meantime, on behalf of everyone at Manchester United, take care and thank you, as ever, for your unwavering support.”

To read more about the above, please see the minutes of the Fans’ Forum meeting held via conference call on Friday 24 April 2020 -these will be published next week. The minutes of every meeting since February 2016 can be found at www.manutd.com/fansforum.

WOODWARD RESPONDS TO FANS' QUESTIONS

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward feels football is “not complete” without supporters, but acknowledges that Government guidelines may mean a return to action behind closed doors is the only option available.

Speaking at the Fans' Forum last Friday, Woodward made it clear that everybody's health was, of course, the main priority during the coronavirus pandemic that has necessitated a halt to football.

As plans are explored in an attempt to conclude the 2020/21 campaign when it is deemed safe to do so, he explained his thoughts on the subject and also stressed the club's continued long-term commitment to backing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market, even if it will not be “business as usual” when the window reopens.

“I think we all agree that we want supporters back watching football at Old Trafford as soon as possible,” said Woodward. “But that can only happen when we are advised it is safe to do so and, clearly, the Government has a major say in that.

”No decisions have been made yet but we think it is possible that the initial games, particularly the ones related to finishing or trying to complete this season, will probably have to be played behind closed doors. But that is not confirmed yet.

“We're not necessarily happy about that. Clearly, football requires our fans in the stadium for it to be complete, but public health must come first and, as I said, this is down to the Government.”

It was reiterated that, despite the present uncertainty, there is a determination to complete the season. However, he did not anticipate any potential move to play the Premier League games abroad.

“I've not heard anything on that,” he said. “I would expect our remaining domestic games to be played in England.”

Some fans will still be keen to hear the latest on the transfer front, even though the next window will surely be hugely impacted, as Ed has already intimated. Nonetheless, the club's main aim is to continue competing for the best talent and improving the squad, once it has more certainty about a path through the current crisis.

“It’s always a top priority for us to strengthen the team and build on what Ole is very clearly achieving in terms of bringing us back to the top,” added Woodward. “But we’ve got to have clarity on what the future holds.

“Clearly, it’s true we are fortunate to be in a strong financial position compared to many clubs, but we are not immune from the financial impact of what this virus is doing.

“I would say that once we have that visibility of a path through the crisis and coming out of the other side to relative normality, then, of course, we aim to remain highly competitive in the market.

“As I said before and I’ve said this many times - we remain committed to backing Ole to win trophies. That’s our core objective as a club.”

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward 'tells rebel clubs to accept relegation from the Premier League as part of Project Restart obligation as three teams dropping out of the top flight CANNOT be avoided'

* Man United's Ed Woodward has reportedly told rebel clubs to accept relegation
* Another meeting between Premier League shareholders is planned for Thursday
* Deciding league positions if the season is not completed is set to be discussed

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has reportedly told rebel clubs to accept relegation from the Premier League as part of Project Restart obligation as three teams dropping out of the top flight cannot be avoided.

Another meeting between Premier League shareholders is scheduled for Thursday when deciding league positions if the season is not completed is set to be discussed.

United executive vice-chairman Woodward indicated over the phone last week that clubs should realise that three clubs being relegated to the Championship is part of the Project Restart process, according to The Telegraph.

He reportedly pointed out to other top-flight CEOs that it would not just be the relegated clubs that would feel the effects if the season resumed but was halted again and that three clubs must go down.

Premier League clubs agreed to resume the season later this month just last week in what was a huge breakthrough for their Project Restart plans.

At the start of May Premier League clubs threatened to vote to relegate the bottom three if they blocked Project Restart proposals. The idea of scrapping relegation if the season is completed on neutral grounds was raised at a meeting last month, but quickly dismissed.

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has reportedly told rebel clubs to accept relegation

Project Restart is well underway, with all 20 Premier League sides back in full training ahead of the top flight's return on June 17.

However plans are being put in place in case the coronavirus pandemic worsens and sport is stopped again.

If the 2019-20 season cannot be finished the most likely solution to decide placings is an unweighted points-per-game system, as adopted by the EFL, which would mean Norwich, Aston Villa and Bournemouth would drop down to the second tier of English football.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Tuesday night that Premier League clubs will be warned in the meeting on Thursday that any delay to Project Restart would cost them an extra £35million a week in broadcasting rebates.

Police close investigation into attack on Manchester United chief Ed Woodward's house in January by group in balaclavas who fired flares at property

* Group wearing balaclavas launched flares at Ed Woodward's home in January
* Cheshire Police probed the incident but have now closed the investigation
* Attack happened when section of fans were unhappy at way club was being run
* If any new information comes to light then investigation could be reopened

Police have closed their investigation into an attack on the house of Ed Woodward.

In January, a group wearing balaclavas launched flares at the executive vice-chairman’s house, triggering the probe and attracting widespread condemnation.

However, Cheshire Police have confirmed that they will now be taking no further action. Should any new information be presented, they will reopen the investigation.

It is understood that the impact of Covid-19 and time constraints surrounding offences deemed criminal damage, have both impacted on their probe.

The attack happened at a time when a section of fans unhappy with the way the club was being run sang songs celebrating the death of the 48-year-old.

Nobody was at home at the time and no injuries were reported.

United were quick to release a strongly-worded statement condemning those involved. They also vowed to hand out life bans to anyone found guilty of being involved in the attack.

A spokesperson added: ‘We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack.’

Ed Woodward, Manchester United chief executive, had his house attacked a group wearing balaclavas back in January and the police investigation has now closed. A group of hooded Manchester United fans attacked the property in January. United released a strong statement at the time condemning those involved in the attack. Police say they will reopen the investigation if new information comes to light

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police confirmed that their investigation had concluded. ‘At around 10.45pm on Tuesday 28 January, Cheshire Constabulary was notified of an incident of criminal damage that had taken place earlier that evening at a property in the Nether Peover area,’ they said.

‘Following an investigation, which involved a number of enquiries, no further action is being taken and the victim has been kept fully updated. However, we will always act on any new information that comes to light and anyone who can assist police with their enquiries is urged to call 101.’

United declined to comment.

'The coming months are going to be difficult for everyone': Ed Woodward warns Manchester United face tough return to action as club reveal huge mosaic of more than 40,000 fans at Old Trafford for first home game back

* Ed Woodward says there are tough times ahead for Man United after pandemic
* Red Devils return to Old Trafford on Wednesday to take on Sheffield United
* A mosaic will be displayed in the ground depicting 40,000 Man United fans
* Woodward has thanked frontline workers and club staff for their contributions

Ed Woodward has warned there are still difficult times ahead for Manchester United even though Premier League football returns to Old Trafford for the first time in three-and-a-half months on Wednesday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side face Sheffield United behind closed doors, and in his programme notes for the game Woodward admitted there is still some way to go before the club emerges from the long shadow cast by the coronavirus pandemic.

'On the pitch, there is no escaping the reality that the coming months are going to be difficult for everyone in football and we are no exception,' writes the United chief.

Ed Woodward says Manchester United will feel the effects of pandemic for foreseeable future. United will display a mural of 40,000 supporters duringn the home clash with Sheffield United

'However, our club's foundations are solid and, provided we stick together and manage our resources carefully, we will come through this period with our strength intact - thanks in large part to the loyalty of our fantastic supporters.'

The match programme has been produced in digital and print format for United's first home game since winning the Manchester derby on March 8, and many other changes are in place inside Old Trafford for what will be a peculiar occasion.

More than 40,000 fans from 193 countries have submitted photos of themselves to create a mosaic. There will also be banners paying tribute to frontline workers and others supporting the anti-racism campaign.

There will be a banner in the Stretford End bearing a quote from Sir Matt Busby - 'Football is nothing without fans' - and a tribute in the East Stand to former United defender Tony Dunne whose funeral took place on Tuesday.

The Old Trafford mural will also pay tribute to those working on the frontline in the pandemic

Referring to the absence of fans at Wednesday's game, Woodward adds: 'Emotions are mixed as we welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford.

'While everyone at Manchester United is excited to be getting back to playing football, we regret that our fans cannot be in the stadium, and recognise these are difficult times for many people around the world.

'We mourn all those who lost their lives to coronavirus and honour the legions of frontline heroes - from nurses, to supermarket workers, to neighbourhood volunteers - who have helped our communities through this most challenging of periods.

'We have done what we can, through the club and the fantastic Manchester United Foundation, to support those efforts. I'm especially proud of the many club staff who volunteered to take part in initiatives such as foodbank deliveries, welfare calls to elderly fans, and the provision of over 60,000 meals for NHS staff cooked in our Old Trafford kitchens. I'm also proud of our players and their own individual work that has made a difference during the pandemic.

The Red Devils vice chairman has hailed the efforts of players and fans in the club programme

'As a club, we say 'thank you' through the "United for the Heroes" banner displayed in the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, as well as the NHS logo on the players' shirts.

'You will also see powerful anti-racism messages, on the players' shirts and in the stands, and we are proud to be uniting with our players and the rest of the Premier League behind this crucial cause.

'Diversity, inclusion and the fight against racism are at the core of our values as a club whose support spans racial and cultural boundaries. This has been a long-standing commitment from the club, as part of our All Red All Equal campaign and our support for groups such as Kick It Out.

'We can't wait for you to return to Old Trafford as soon as it is safe to do so. Until then, the players will strive to retain the spirit of that pulsating win against Manchester City when we were last together and the momentum they had created before the enforced break.'

Default Re: Ed Woodward

Ed Woodward slams the Government for their lack of 'consistency' over allowing football fans back into stadiums as he insists EVERY Premier League club is 'confident' about the safe return of supporters

* Man United chief Ed Woodward has hit out at Boris Johnson and the Government
* He's implored Johnson to follow Europe's lead and allow fans back into stadiums
* Woodward says every Premier League club is confident about safe return of fans
* Other countries are allowing sections of fans back but the UK are holding back

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has implored the Government to follow the lead of other European countries and allow football fans back into stadiums now.

Supporters have not been allowed to watch professional football matches in the UK since the end of March due to the coronavirus pandemic, and while other countries have begun to loosen restrictions, the Government is yet to act here.

Woodward has now added his voice to the debate, insisting that every Premier League club is confident they could accommodate the return of fans safely.

Speaking on Wednesday, the United executive vice-chairman said: 'Another crucial issue for the whole of football is the reopening of stadiums to spectators as soon as the Government allows.

'While the situation in Greater Manchester and the UK as a whole continues to evolve, our plans for this are well advanced and we are confident of ours and the whole league’s ability to welcome them back in a safe, bio-secure environment.

Ed Woodward has slammed the Government for their lack of 'consistency' regarding fans. Other European countries have begun to let their fans back in

'Crowds have been permitted to return to varying degrees in over 20 European countries, albeit with significant capacity restrictions to allow for social distancing, and we urge the UK government to follow these positive examples as soon as it is safe to do so.

'While we recognise that public health must always be the priority, what is needed is consistency of approach. If people are allowed to sit in a plane for hours, or in the cinema, or even watch football in a cinema why not outside in a stadium environment which is professionally managed and controlled?

Boris Johnson is still not allowing fans to return to stadiums in small numbers in the UK. Old Trafford remains empty as United wait to get the green light to begin the return of fans

'If indoor concerts are allowed, why should outdoor, socially-distanced football fans be treated differently? Fans are the bedrock of this game and some of the inconsistencies out there are frustrating for them and for the Clubs.'

Woodward's words will be met with plenty of positivity from other English clubs, as they patiently wait to be given the green light from the Government.

Clubs are haemorrhaging cash with no gate money coming in, and they will be desperate to open their doors once more.

United in particular have accrued huge debts in 2020, announcing on Wednesday morning that their debts have soared 133 per cent to a huge £474.1million.

This is partly due to the lack of fans, but also due to decreased TV deals and sponsorship, as well as their outlay on new players in the transfer window.
