Comparing Popular Footballers to Cartoon Characters



Everyone has a look-alike.

In the game of football, there are more than a few athletes that look like other people. The fun thing, however, is comparing these players to cartoon characters.

Some of these players have easy comparisons, and others might be a little bit of a stretch. Regardless, you can see the resemblance from these world-famous footballers and cartoon characters.

For this article, I'm pulling pictures from all over the place, so I will credit each picture accordingly.

Arsene Wenger: Principal Skinner


Both of these men are in charge of youth, act a little nervous and seem to live in his own little world.

Wenger is a little more put together than Principal Skinner, but he's also a little older and wiser.

Either way, the two look pretty similar, even if Wenger has a slightly harsher face.

Peter Crouch: Stinky Peterson


Here's a quick profile on Stinky Peterson:

He's a tall, lanky, English target forward that plays for Stoke City. He's had a solid career in the English Premier League, without possessing any foot skill to note.

As for Peter Crouch, he is the tall, Southern friend in the classic Nickelodeon show "Hey Arnold!"

Wait, never mind. Reverse those two.

Jose Bosingwa: Evil Baby from "The Simpsons"


No, that is not the starting right-back for Chelsea.

Close, though, huh?

David Luiz: Sideshow Bob


Both are known by two names.

Both are known by curly locks.

Both are known for wanting to kill Bart Simpson.

Okay, maybe just one of them is known for that last one.

Regardless, this one is just too easy.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Astro Boy


Would Astro Boy have become one of the greatest football players of his generation?

We can't be sure, but we can just watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and pretend Astro did.

Carles Puyol: Sam Sheepdog


Carles Puyol is one of my favorite players in the world to watch. Sam Sheepdog is one of my favorite cartoon characters to watch.

Both of them look like they're outmatched before they finally take down the opposition (Real Madrid or Ralph E. Wolf, depending on the case).

All the while, their hair is seemingly blocking their vision completely, making their successes even more improbable.

Wayne Rooney: Shrek


And I said the David Luiz/Sideshow Bob comparison was too easy?

This one is practically cheating.

Brad Friedel: The Thing


The picture is slightly cheating because this Thing isn't animated.

However, there is no denying the resemblance between Brad Friedel and the classic Marvel Comics character.

They're strong, reliable men who hang behind other stars while doing the dirty work. Thing might not be as chiseled as Friedel, but he's darn close.

Michael Bradley: Elmer Fudd


It's hard not to root for these bald, hard-working gentlemen.

Aside from their incredible resemblance, Michael Bradley and Elmer Fudd are doing the dirty work (recovering, tackling and distributing; fumbling over words, getting hurt and coming up short) for their respective goals (goals, laughs).

Meanwhile, the spotlight is almost always taken from them (Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck).

They may be underrated by everyone else, but I appreciate Bradley and Fudd for everything they do.

Mesut Ozil: Gollum


These are just two peas in a pod.

Gollum and Mesut Ozil resemble each other so creepily that it freaks me out the more I look at this picture.

No, Gollum is not a cartoon. However, he is animated, which definitely counts for this article. The two simply look exactly alike.

While Ozil doesn't seem to obsessed with anything, there's plenty of time for that. Until then, we'll just have to say the resemblance works well enough for the comparisons.
