Veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to make an astonishing return to AC Milan as the Italian giants near securing their former front man following his stint in the United States.

The 38-year-old left LA Galaxy after they were dumped from the MLS play offs by arch rivals LA FC, but has shown no intention of hanging up his boots just yet.

The former Sweden international outlined his desire to return to Europe, where he enjoyed so much success in his pomp, and it looks like his former club Milan will win the race to sign the 6ft 5in striker.

According to Italian newspaper Repubblica, Stefano Pioli's side have secured the services of the star, and will announce his arrival on December 30.

Ibrahimovic is said to have signed an 18-month contract and will receive almost 5 million euros, bonuses included, with director of football Zvonimir Boban and Milan legend Paolo Maldini fundamental in bringing Ibrahimovic back to the club.

It is unknown which shirt number Zlatan will take, with Krzysztof Piątek currently wearing the number 9. Zlatan could ask for shirt 81 instead.

Ibrahimovic will return to the San Siro for the first time since 2012, where he enjoyed a two-year stint in the Italian capital, scoring 56 goals in 85 games and winning a Serie A and an Italian Super Cup.

Milan have seen off fierce competition from domestic rivals Fiorentina, Bologna and Rome to bring the striker back. Ibrahimovic is said to be most fond of Milan, despite also playing for arch rivals Inter and Juventus.

The Milan he rejoins is in a far different state to the one he left for Paris seven years ago. Pioli faces an uphill task in making this season a positive one. Having taking over from Marco Giampaolo earlier this season, Milan are eleventh in Serie A approaching the halfway mark of the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic can't wait to celebrate 'like a God' in front of the AC Milan fans - but the Swedish striker drew a blank on his return to the San Siro on Monday.

The 38-year-old, who scored 56 goals in two seasons with Milan between 2010 and 2012, made his comeback from the bench in the 55th minute but couldn't prevent their Serie A encounter with Sampdoria ending goalless.

But afterwards, Ibrahimovic spoke of his special connection with the Milan support and revealed he cannot wait to get the first goal of his second spell with them.

'The rapport with the fans remains wonderful and gives me so much motivation,' Ibrahimovic said.

'I wanted to get on to the pitch, score a goal and then celebrate like a God in front of the Curva.'

Milan moved to sign free agent Ibrahimovic as they languish in the lower half of the Serie A table, with just 22 points from their opening 18 matches.

Ibrahimovic said that he can already see some of the shortcomings in the struggling side and pledged to do everything possible to help.

'It shows on the field that there is a lack of confidence and aggression when we are trying to create goals. We are not very solid,' he added.

'We need to understand what to do to reach the team's ceiling.

'I have been here for four days, I will try to help in every way. A little bit of trust is missing still.'

Ibrahimovic will be hoping to get off the mark when Milan make the visit to Cagliari on Saturday.

Ketika itu, Barcelona merekrut Ibrahimovic dari Inter Milan. Blaugrana menukarnya dengan Samuel Eto'o plus membayar 66 juta euro. Kedatangan Ibrahimovic rupanya membuat Messi merasa terusik. Messi, yang ketika itu baru berusia 22 tahun, merasa tak diperlukan lagi.

Ketika itu, Messi disebut sedang melempem, dan sebaliknya Ibrahimovic sempat moncer. Apalagi Barcelona juga masih punya Thierry Henry pada saat itu.

Dalam buku itu, Messi bahkan sempat meminta hengkang kepada pelatih Pep Guardiola. Namun, lantaran kurang yakin bicara langsung, La Pulga mengirimi mantan pelatihnya sebuah pesan singkat.

"Saya lihat saya tak lagi penting bagi tim, jadi...," tulis Messi kepada Guardiola, dalam buku tersebut.

Namun, pada akhirnya Messi bertahan di Barcelona hingga kini. Sementara Ibrahimovic juga meninggalkan Barcelona pada musim 2010/2011 ke AC Milan sebagai pinjaman, sebelum akhirnya dipermanenkan dan membantu Rossoneri memenangkan Scudetto.

Kini, Messi punya catatan 618 gol dari 706 penampilan. Penyerang yang kini sudah berusia 32 tahun itu telah mempersembahkan 10 titel LaLiga dan 4 gelar Liga Champions untuk Barcelona, yang membantunya memenangkan enam gelar Ballon d'Or.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a 'great champion and professional', according to his former Manchester United team-mate Romelu Lukaku.

The two strikers will face off in the Milan derby on Sunday and Lukaku has claimed he learned important lessons from the Swede during their time at Old Trafford.

'Ibra is a champion, I respect him,' he told Tiki Taka.

'In Manchester I could train every day with him, that was the most beautiful thing for me.

'It will be nice to play against him. He is a great champion and professional.'

Lukaku has been instrumental in Inter's title challenge with the striker scoring 16 goals in Serie A since his summer move from United.

But Ibrahimovic has two goals in five games after sealing his transfer from LA Galaxy to AC Milan in January and is proving he can still play at the highest level.

Melihat situasi yang cukup pelik di Italia saat ini, Ibrahimovic pun tergerak ingin membantu. Ia pun membuat pengumpulan dana di situs gofundme, di mana nantinya ia ingin memberikan dana yang diperoleh kepada Humanitas Hospital, sebuah rumah sakit di Milan yang bergerak di bidang penelitian medis.

Zlatan mengajak siapapun yang ingin menyumbang, namun ia berpesan kepada sesama atlet olahraga untuk menyisihkan penghasilannya demi menolong para petugas medis yang bekerja merawat korban pasien virus corona.

"Italia telah memberiku banyak hal, dan di momen ini, aku ingin memberikan lebih kepada negara yang kucintai ini. Aku memutuskan untuk menggalang dana untuk Humanitas Hospitals dan menyebarkan pesan ini lebih luas lagi," tulis Ibrahimovic di akun instagramnya, Rabu (18/3/2020).

"Ini adalah masalah serius, dan kita semua perlu melakukan langkah nyata, tak sekedar membuat video. Aku mengandalkan kedermawanan rekan-rekan seprofesi, seluruh atlet profesional, dan mereka yang ingin memberi donasi, baik besar ataupun kecil, untuk mengalahkan virus ini," lanjut Zlatan.

"Bersama, kita bisa menolong banyak rumah sakit, para dokter, dan para perawat yang senantiasa bekerja setiap hari untuk menolong orang lain. Hari ini, kitalah yang bersorak sorai mendukung mereka!"

"Mari sama-sama kalahkan virus corona dan menangi duel ini! Dan ingat, jika virus itu tak menghampiri Zlatan, Zlatan-lah yang akan menghampiri virus itu!" tutup bapak dua anak itu.

Dilihat dari situs yang diberikan Ibrahimovic di akun instagramnya, ia menargetkan bisa mengumpulkan 1 juta Euro untuk disumbangkan. Sejauh ini, sudah 123 ribu Euro yang berhasil dikumpulkan, sekitar dua jam setelah pengumuman Ibrahimovic.

Terkait pekerjaan Ibrahimovic selanjutnya andai benar-benar pensiun, beberapa opsi juga bisa dipilihnya. Calciomercato turut mengabarkan jika eks striker Barcelona itu tetap tidak bakalan jauh dari dunia si kulit bundar.
