Default Hope Solo Kicks Butt on Letterman

Hope Solo, Abby Wambach Video: Watch USA Soccer Stars on Late Show

Hope Solo and Abby Wambach became instant stars after the United States knocked off Brazil and made their run to the World Cup Final.

The team was stunned in the final minutes of regulation, extra time, and penalty kicks and lost to Japan in the Finals. However, Hope Solo and Abby Wambach are two players who are cashing in as celebrities.

The team has been a hit around the country and fans still seem to appreciate everything they did in Germany. Alex Morgan and Hope Solo attended the premiere of Entourage and also headed to the ESPN studios to introduce an episode of SportsNation.

The two players were interviewed on Tuesday, July 19, on The Late Show with David Letterman and then proceeded to the streets for a "kick off."

The two star players were prompted with the task of kicking soccer balls into moving cabs. A cab would drive by, with the back door of the van open, in an attempt to see which player was more accurate without her cleats on.

Hope Solo opted to use her patented drop kick, while Abby Wambach did a traditional shot. Letterman got involved in the action as well, but the man couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if he tried.

Solo was the star of the show—she sunk two in the backseat of the cab.

The kicking competition begins around the 10-minute mark of the video.

Default Hope Solo is Really Hot -- Here's Proof

khusus buat om Panda

What Google Trends Tells Us About Hope Solo And Her Hotness

I’m a bit of a statistics nerd when it comes to sport, so after noticing a lot of people arriving on the KCKRS doorstep after searching for “Hope Solo hot” I decided to take a peek at some of the search trend analytics Google provides to see just where and how this Hope Solo love-fest has developed online.

Here’s Google search volume trending for a simple “hope solo”. We see clear spikes around the 2007 World Cup, in fact significantly greater than that of the current 2011 World Cup. So maybe all of us commenting on Hope Solo mania this summer are falling prey to the illusions that recency can create because apparently people were all up in her biz much more 4 years ago after she slagged off her coach for dropping her.

However, when the search term changes to “hope solo hot” so does the trend. Greatly. In fact search volume for “hope solo hot” doesn’t even register in previous years in Google’s data until the enormous spike in 2011 during the tournament.

Given searches for HoSo herself were greater in 2007 than 2011 – why was no one searching for her hotness back then, seemingly at all? Is it the change in hair colour? Maybe Hope as a brunette is somehow infinitely hotter than Hope the blonde? Or are we as a society just much, much more horny and 4 years has allowed us to hone our muscle-memory to turn any remotely good-looking, remotely-famous woman we see or hear about into a pervvy internet search?

The last trend to add is searches for “hope solo boyfriend”, a term which has experienced a growth in popularity even greater than “hope solo hot”

Not only are many, MANY more people searching for Hope Solo and her hotness during the 2011 WWC than the 2007 WWC, but many people are also interested in who she’s dating. Are they guys who are hoping to discover that she’s single, therefore removing the only possible barrier they can imagine to their marrying her? Or is it girls who are interested in seeing what kind of man HoSo can pull, to either be jealous of or hate on in a fit of still-jealous rage?

We’ll never know what’s really driving all these millions of searches, but they are important questions. Maybe the most important of all time.

AS Pecat Bob Bradley Sebagai Pelatih Timnas
Doni Wahyudi - detiksport

Default MLS Embarrassment -- Is Playing Man Utd Worth It?

MLS Debate: Should MLS Continue to Embarrass Itself in the All-Star Game?

As the 2011 MLS All-Star Game came to a close, Manchester United walked off the field triumphant and satisfied, having walloped the MLS All-Stars for the second consecutive season, to the tune of four goals to nil.

The game proved to be excellent practice and a significant morale booster for Manchester United, who continue to have an excellent preseason, and was no doubt exciting for neutral fans looking for a high scoring, fast action game.

But for fans of the MLS, the game was undoubtedly rather disappointing.

The 2011 MLS All-Star Game was the second MLS All-Star Game in a row that the MLS All-Stars were not only beaten, but beaten by a significant margin. Last year's MLS All-Star Game ended 5-2 in favor of the Red Devils.

Prior to that, the MLS All Stars were actually rather successful in their MLS All-Star Games.

Since 2003, when the MLS first started playing against foreign club teams, up to 2008, the MLS All-Stars had won all of their MLS All-Star Games against mostly solid but not world-class opposition, in the form of teams like Fulham, Celtic, Club Deportivo Guadalajara and West Ham.

However, even Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, was beaten 1-0 by the MLS All-Stars in 2006.

In the current format of the competition, the MLS All-Stars' first loss came against Everton in 2009, on penalties, but since then, the MLS All-Stars have not won the MLS All-Star Game and have been beaten badly in the last two MLS All-Star Games.

So the question that must be asked is this: Should the MLS continue to allow their All-Stars to be routed by the best teams in the world, like Manchester United?

To answer this question, we must look at both sides of the debate:

Pro (Continue Playing the Best Teams in the World in the MLS All-Star Games)

There are many reasons why continuing to face the best teams in the world, like Manchester United, would be favorable for MLS.

Manchester United, and teams on the same level as Manchester United, have huge fanbases worldwide and in the US. Bringing them to the MLS All-Star Game automatically raises the profile of the game significantly and generates more interest in the MLS itself.

Furthermore, bringing big teams like Manchester United generates a great deal of revenue for the game itself.

In 2010, MLS sold 70,728 tickets to the All-Star Game, selling out Reliant Stadium and blowing the previous record of 27,000 tickets sold in the 2003 All-Star Game out of the park. In 2011, MLS again sold out the All-Star Game against Manchester United.

One argument that can be made regarding the results of recent MLS All-Star Games is that while there is always the danger of Manchester United or similar stature teams blowing the MLS All-Stars out of the water, it is important that the MLS All-Star Game is nothing more than an exhibition game, designed to do nothing more than provide the fans with an exciting, ideally fast-paced game of football.

Thus, no one should complain when the MLS All-Stars are outclassed by a margin of three or four goals. Ideally, it would be best to have the game be a bit closer, but as long as there are goals and action, no one should complain.

Con (Stop Playing the Best Teams in the World in the MLS All Star Games)

Just like there are many reasons why continuing to face the best teams in the world would be favorable for MLS, there are many reasons why it may not be favorable.

Despite the win over Chelsea back in 2006, it appears that its current form, the MLS All-Stars are simply unable to take on world class opposition.

The teams lack cohesion, there is often a lack of understanding between the players, and as we saw in today's game, players are often played out of position, as in the case of David Beckham and Brad Davis, two of the best wings/flank midfielders and crossers in MLS, being forced to play centrally.

Thus, putting such teams out in front of world class opposition to be roasted is not only hard on die hard MLS fans, but also looks bad on the league as a whole.

While the game is technically nothing more than an exhibition game, the game is often drummed up by ESPN as the game when MLS shows off its best talents, and if those talents are consistently put to shame by the opposition, it is very possible that the reputation of the league could go down among Americans, and on-the-fence fans of the MLS could be turned away from watching the league due to its perceived lack of competitiveness in comparison with the rest of the world.

Also, bringing in mid-table, solid European teams has never been a failure for MLS; every All-Star Game featuring a European team has gone on to be sold out.

Especially in the case of teams like Fulham and Everton, where big US internationals play a role in the starting 11, the games have been very popular and well received by fans and the media alike.

Conclusion

There are very strong and tempting arguments to be made on both sides, and the pros and cons nearly balance out.

My personal opinion is that, in the long run, if the MLS All-Stars are unable to make the MLS All-Star Game more competitive and start winning again, then the league should make the move to bring in slightly weaker, but still, solid European teams, like the Celtics, Evertons and Fulhams of the past.

Short-term however, it may be worth it for the MLS to give it one more go at a big European team (not named Manchester United) and see if the MLS All-Stars can give them a decent game.

The potential to raise the profile of the game and increase interest in the game and the league cannot be underestimated and should be valued as a major benefit of the game.

What do you think? Do you think MLS needs to adjust the level of the opposition in the MLS All-Star Games to make them more manageable for the MLS All-Stars, or do you think they should continue bringing in the best clubs of world football and hope that the MLS All-Stars will be able to adjust and make the game more competitive in the future?

Or, alternatively, does it even matter if the MLS All- Stars are competitive, as long as the game is fun and enjoyed by the fans?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and reading your comments below.

U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati announced today that Bob Bradley has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team.

“We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five years,” said Gulati. “During his time as the head coach of our Men’s National Team he led the team to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change. It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

This announcement comes after a meeting at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., between Gulati, Bradley and U.S. Soccer CEO Dan Flynn.

Bradley was named the head coach of the U.S. MNT in January of 2007 and during his five-year tenure compiled a 43-25-12 record. He led the team to a number of accomplishments, including winning the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, finishing second in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, winning their World Cup qualifying group and advancing to the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

U.S. Soccer will have a further announcement on Friday.

Default Sorry Guys, Alex Morgan Has a Boyfriend

Off The Market: Servando Carrasco & Alex Morgan Are Dating

Here’s a pure football pairing we wholeheartedly support: Seattle Sounders midfielder, Servando Carrasco, and USWNT player, Alex Morgan, are dating. For the past 3.5 years, actually!

In an interview with the Seattle Times, Miss Morgan’s MLS rookie boyfriend recently told how proud he was of her performance at this past Women’s World Cup. Moreover, when probed about his team-mates taking the mickey out of their relationship, Carrasco denied ever getting (much) grief over his now high-profile other half. He then went on to recount one particular away match where the team bus made a mandatory pit stop in front of a life-size billboard of Alex:

“We were pulling up to the hotel in L.A. and of course we get the red light right (before we) turn left to the hotel and there’s a huge Sports Authority and there’s a billboard of her outside. I just heard one person go, ‘Oooooooo!’ and there was just a chain reaction through the whole bus.”

Low and behold, the Sounders’ assistant manager acted as any responsible official would under such circumstances and turfed the entire squad off the bus for the sweet and supportive picture you see before you.

We hope his team-mates made the most of the opportunity. If Servando has any sense, this is as close as he is ever going to let them get to his beloved. Bless.

Klinsmann: We will build a US style

New USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann spoke to members of the press for the first time on Monday 1 August, expressing cautious optimism about the future of the game in the country and his desire to expand its appeal.

“My job is to go step-by-step and help every single American player to get to a new level,” said Klinsmann, who replaced Bob Bradley in the USA’s top job at the weekend. “It will take me a couple of weeks and months to analyse the players and to see who is coming through the ranks, through the youth teams and in Major League Soccer.”

The former Intern Milan, Tottenham and Bayern Munich striker will face his first test in nine days’ time when the Stars and Stripes take on Mexico in a friendly in Philadelphia. “We will announce the team for the Mexico game hopefully on Wednesday. I have already been in touch with some of the players to get a sense of their situation,” said Klinsmann as he gets set to face a Mexican side that beat an uninspired, Bradley-led USA 4-2 in last month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup final.

“I want to move things in the right direction,” added Klinsmann, former German national team and Bayern Munich coach who has lived in Southern California since 1998. “The development of soccer in the United States in the last ten years has been amazing. Now you have a lot of attention on the game and that is all the result of the recent building that has happened.”

Quote:
"I hope we find a way to find a Lionel Messi in the United States. That would be awesome.
USA coach Klinsmann
“There is a good foundation laid down here in the US,” added Klinsmann, citing the development of a professional league (MLS) in 1996 and the USA reaching every instalment of the FIFA World Cup™ finals since 1990.

Klinsmann was considered for the US job in 2006 and following the team’s elimination from last year’s World Cup in South Africa, but his intention to re-design the youth system was rumoured to get in the way of the deal. This desire, according to the German, seems to have changed, “I don’t have any intention to change the youth system,” he said. “Good things have been happening in recent years. Of course, we will discuss things and see where we can strengthen the youth system to make the entire US program stronger.”

The German also addressed much-talked about pockets of potential talent, especially in ethnic and socio-economically disadvantaged areas of the States, and his intention to locate and exploit these historically neglected areas. “We need to dig into where to find more talent,” he said. “Maybe we can find somebody kicking the ball around the street and develop him, but this will come with time. I hope we find a way to find a Lionel Messi in the United States. That would be awesome.”

The coach also touched on his philosophy of football, promising to build a team that can connect with an American sporting audience that has not exactly flocked to follow the world’s game. “Soccer is about people identifying with a team and building a style and putting something together that the public can really like.”

The Americans will play a pair of friendlies in September after the rematch with Mexico on 10 August, hosting Costa Rica on 2 September and travelling to face Belgium three days later in Brussels. “The priority right now is to meet the players and to understand their issues, all with a focus on qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.”
