Re: THE 33 nationality's to wear a Manchester United shirt

Re: THE 33 nationality's to wear a Manchester United shirt
IMHO Btw ga nolak cendol |

Re: THE 33 nationality's to wear a Manchester United shirt
menjelang USA invasion nih, ManUtd mengangkat Amrica United
_________________________ 02/07/2010 07:00 - ManUtd.com, James Tuck American Reds United’s connection with football in North America is stronger and more time-honoured than you might think. The likes of George Best, Dennis Viollet and Gordon Hill upped sticks to play in the fledgling North American Soccer League in the 1960s and 1970s following their Reds careers. More recently, and with varying degrees of success, other former Reds have tried their hand at Major League Soccer, most notably LA Galaxy’s David Beckham and fellow ex-United apprentice Terry Cooke, who spent four years with Colorado Rapids. Then there are those who moved in the opposite direction. Here’s a look at the handful of North Americans who’ve been on United's books... TIM HOWARD (77 appearances, 2003-2007) I’ve just seen him in the World Cup… Yes, he’s the current USA number one and has been demonstrating the kind of solid form that first attracted United to him in 2003. I remember he started off well at OT… You’re right. Tim arrived from MLS side MetroStars as the successor to Fabien Barthez, and saved the decisive penalty in the Community Shield against Arsenal on his debut. He was first choice for the Reds in his maiden season in England, at the end of which he picked up an FA Cup winners' medal and was named in the PFA Team of the Season. The new Peter Schmeichel, then? Maybe not, but he’s a talented keeper and still probably the most successful American to have played for United. Some might say he was never the same after his weak parry gifted Porto a last-minute victory in the 2004 Champions League last 16. It’s true that mistakes crept into his game after that and he ended up sharing goalkeeping duties with Roy Carroll, but Howard really found his opportunities limited with the arrival of Edwin van der Sar in 2005. So then he joined Everton… Yes, the New Jersey-born keeper moved to Goodison Park on loan in May 2006 and the deal was made permanent the following February. The 31-year-old is still there now and seemingly back to his best. next ............

Re: THE 33 nationality's to wear a Manchester United shirt
JONATHAN SPECTOR (8 appearances, 2004-2006)
He was in South Africa too, right? Yes, and at 24 the defender has already become an established member of the Stars and Stripes squad, having made his international debut more than five years ago. Comfortable at full-back or centre-back, Spector was discovered by Reds scout Jimmy Ryan in 2003. Why did he not play more for United? Largely because he was unable to displace other players in United’s defence, notably Gabriel Heinze. Certainly, he demonstrated real promise in his handful of first-team outings, beginning with his debut as an 18-year-old in the Community Shield against Arsenal in 2004 and continuing in both the league and Europe, when he was given a chance because of a spate of injuries in defence. He spent the 2005/06 season on loan at Charlton, but on his return to OT he still couldn’t force his way into Sir Alex’s side regularly. The decision was made to sell the Chicago-born youngster to West Ham for an initial fee of £500,000 in July 2006. And now he’s getting plenty of game-time at Upton Park…Yes, he’s approaching a century of appearances for the Hammers, including 29 last term as the Londoners just about avoided the drop. GIUSEPPE ROSSI (14 appearances, 4 goals, 2004-2007) He’s not American, is he? Well, actually, he has dual American and Italian citizenship; he was born to Italian parents in New Jersey and could have played for either country, but chose the Azzurri and made his debut in 2008. So he has roots across the Atlantic. A promising striker, as I recall… Indeed. United snapped him up from Parma’s youth team in 2004 and, after impressing in the Reserves, he was handed a debut against Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup in November 2004. Rossi went on to score four goals in 14 first-team appearances for the Reds. So why did we allow him to leave? You can’t keep a good man down. Rossi wanted the guarantee of first-team football and, after loan spells at Newcastle and former club Parma in the 2006/07 campaign, United reluctantly agreed to sell him to Villarreal, for whom he’s already racked up nearly 100 appearances and scored 30-odd goals. Isn’t there some buy-back agreement in place for him? That’s right. After allowing Rossi to follow Diego Forlan to the Yellow Submarine, Sir Alex said: "We've got a clause in his contract where he could come back to us at some point. We are covering ourselves in every way." So who knows, we may see the diminutive 23-year-old back in M16 one day.

Re: THE 33 nationality's to wear a Manchester United shirt
OWEN HARGREAVES (38 appearances, 2 goals, 2007-present)
Right, he’s definitely not American… Not American, no, but he’s originally from the same continent. The Reds’ current number 4 was born in Calgary, Canada, to a Welsh mother and an English father. And as you probably know, he spent his formative years as a player with Bayern Munich, so he’s fluent in German too. Could he have played for any of those countries? Yes, he was eligible to represent Canada, Wales or England, or even Germany if he had waited longer before making his decision. But he opted for England, making his debut in 2001, and is the only player to have played for the Three Lions without having previously lived in the United Kingdom. JIMMY NICHOLL (248 appearances, 6 goals, 1974-1982) Canadian-born Northern Ireland international Jimmy Nicholl (left) won the FA Cup with United in 1977 Was he born over the pond too? Indeed he was – in Hamilton, Canada. But the former Reds defender represented Northern Ireland with distinction, earning 73 caps in a 10-year international career that included a famous World Cup win over favourites and hosts Spain in 1982. What about his stint at United? Jimmy came through the ranks at OT and made his debut in 1975. A regular at right-back for the next seven seasons, he helped the Reds win the FA Cup in 1977. After leaving for Toronto Blizzard, he enjoyed spells at Sunderland, Rangers, West Brom and Dunfermline, before spending six years as player-manager at Raith Rovers. And he’s still in the management game now, isn’t he? Yes, he’s currently assistant boss at Kilmarnock, and previously held similar roles with Northern Ireland, Dunfermline and Aberdeen.
