Manchester United 'to REST Daniel James' with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer worried of burning the Welshman out

* Daniel James has been a consistent starter since arriving at Manchester United
* The Welsh winger 18 times for club and country already in the 2019-20 season
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to rest James to prevent any burnout

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to put Daniel James on the sidelines in a bid to prevent the Welshman from burnout.

The 21-year-old has played 18 times already this season for club and country and the Sun report that United are growing concerned it could have a negative impact on James's development.

Many expected James to be eased into life at Old Trafford having completed a £15million summer move from Championship side Swansea City.

James has been one of the positives after a disappointing start to the season by United.

And that form has seen him become a mainstay for Wales under Ryan Giggs and the accumulation of games is said to have left United worried of burnout.

United welcome Partizan Belgrade to Old Trafford on Thursday in the Europa League and it remains to be seen if James will be left out.

Manchester United are reportedly considering resting Daniel James to prevent burnout. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come to depend on the 21-year-old since he arrived from Swansea. United are keen to avoid injury to James ahead of what will be a busy period in December

Games against Partizan Belgrade and Brighton at home before the international break could see James rested ahead of what will be a hectic December period.

Solskjaer's side face nine games in a month across all competitions and given their lack of depth in attack, they can ill-afford to see James collect a long-term injury.

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and James has quickly become the first-choice triumvirate in attack and Solskjaer is likely to try and protect the trio as much as possible, particularly in their Europa League campaign.

'Coming in was always going to be tough... but I'm here for a reason': Dan James admits he's still adjusting to life at Man United despite impressing so far under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Dan James joined Manchester United in a £15m move from Swansea this summer
* A year ago, the 22-year-old wasn't even a first-team regular in the Championship
* But the Wales winger has shone under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since joining United

Dan James admits he is still coming to terms with being a Premier League star at Manchester United and has to remind himself: 'I'm here for a reason'.

James gave another excellent display on the right wing for United in Sunday's 3-1 win over Brighton at Old Trafford.

Brighton manager Graham Potter, who gave James his full debut at Swansea City, acknowledged afterwards that James wasn't even a first-team regular in the Championship this time last year.

Manchester United star Dan James admits he is still coming to terms with his new-found status

The Wales winger, who turned 22 on Sunday, is making the most of his opportunity following a £15million move from Swansea to United in the summer.

James has played more games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer than many people expected, but he admits that making the transition has not been easy.

'Coming in was always going to be tough and it was going to be different from playing in the Championship,' he said. 'I think I've taken it in my stride, tried to calm myself down a bit and think "I'm here for a reason".

'At the start of the season, I maybe didn't think I would play as much. Every game I've been learning and the gaffer has trusted me and I've really enjoyed it.'

James has formed a lightning forward line with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial that epitomises the quick, counter-attacking football Solskjaer wants at United.

He added: 'We're really enjoying our football at the minute. Maybe it's taken a few weeks to mould but we've all got that connection together and it's important.

'Since Anthony has come back in, we've got that focal point. He's a great link-up player. He can come short or go in behind.

'It's been important for me and for Marcus since he's come back into the team to get that interlink. Since he's come back, he's got goals and he's got assists and he's been great for us.'

Asked who is the fastest between him and Rashford, James replied: 'Marcus says me but I think we would have a good race!'

The 22-year-old has excelled at Old Trafford since joining in the summer from Swansea City. James has played more games under boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer than many people expected

James's pace means that he has been on the receiving end of some rough treatment from defenders, from United's pre-season tour right through to Sunday's game when Lewis Dunk and Dan Burn were both booked for talking down him down. Dunk's challenge conceded the free-kick that led to United's second goal.

'I've been used to it,' said James. 'Last season in the Championship I had a lot of hits. If a defender hits you and you stay down, he might think he's got the better of you so to get up and keep going is important.

'It's part of the game. If I can get forward and win free-kicks high up then it's good. It's important to keep getting back up, keep playing and I enjoy it.'

Daniel James was ‘unbelievable’ in Manchester United’s derby win over City says legend Peter Schmeichel who hails Welsh star’s ‘fantastic signing’

* Daniel James starred in Manchester United's 2-1 victory over local rivals City
* United won thanks to goals by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial
* James has been a standout performer since he joined for £15m in the summer
* United legend Peter Schemeichel praised James for his 'unbelievable' display

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has praised Wales international Daniel James for his 'unbelievable' performance against Manchester City.

James starred in United's somewhat surprising 2-1 victory over their local rivals, thanks to goals by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

After the match, Schmeichel was full of praise for the Welsh winger hailing him as a 'fantastic signing' for his former club.

Schmeichel told Premier League Productions: ' He was unbelievable, chasing every ball, he was in every counter-attack and, at the same time, he was doubling up with (Aaron) Wan-Bissaka on the right-hand side.

'Ryan Giggs must be so happy to see one of his players perform so well.

'He's played every single game this season and he's still playing well. That's a fantastic signing.'

Manchester United completed the signing of James from Swansea City for an initial fee of £15m in the summer, after he enjoyed a breakthrough year with Swansea in the 2018-19 season.

Daniel James impressed again as Manchester United beat rivals Manchester City 2-1. Daniel James has broken into the team after a string of impressive displays since his signing. Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has come out and praised Daniel James. Daniel James has so far scored three goals and made four assists for Manchester United

James scored five goals in 38 appearances for Swansea, and impressed for them in an FA Cup quarter-final tie where they were perhaps unlucky to lose 3-2 to Manchester City.

So far this year he has been a surprise standout in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, in what has been a tough start to the season for the Red Devils.

The 22-year-old came on as a substitute to score in his first Premier League game for the club, in a 4-0 riot of Chelsea back in August.

He hasn't looked back since and has become a pivotal part of the team, scoring three goals in all competitions and making four assists - one of which against Manchester City.

His performances have garnered the attention of many footballing figures, including Schmeichel.

The Dane knows what it takes to make it at Manchester United, after he became a legend for the club under the helm of Sir Alex Ferguson in the 1990s.

Schmeichel made 398 appearances across all competitions for United from 1991 to 1999 and is widely revered as one of the Premier League's greatest ever goalkeepers.

'He can cause teams nightmares': Marcus Rashford heaps praise on 'brilliant' summer signing Dan James and backs him to get even better at Manchester United

* Marcus Rashford has heaped praise on Man United's summer signing Dan James
* The forward admits the winger's deliveries boost his chances in front of goal
* James has settled in quickly at Old Trafford and has become a regular starter

Marcus Rashford has waxed lyrical about his Manchester United team-mate Dan James, saying he can be a nightmare for opposition defences.

The in-form striker had plenty of superlatives for the Welsh international, who signed from Swansea for around £15million, heaping praise on his attitude since he stepped foot on the training ground.

James, 22, has nailed down his place as a trusted member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad, starting 22 games for the Red Devils in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing six assists.

Rashford, himself a former young prospect at the club, has been quick to single him out and commend him for his dedication to the team, adding that the team are keen to work with him further to help unleash his danger threat.

'Dan has been brilliant since he came in,' Rashford, he said in the club's matchday programme.

'He works hard in every single game and, when it comes down to it, that is all you can ask of each player – to give it all they've got.

Marcus Rashford, right, has been impressed with what he's seen from Dan James this season. James has been electric since signing for United, scoring three goals and providing six assists. Rashford has praised James' attitude and said he could be a nightmare for opposition defences

'He definitely does that and, if we can adapt more to his playing style, he can cause some teams nightmares down the right-hand side, as we've seen in some games this season.'

Rashford is on top form for United this season with 19 goals overall, and the England man has admitted the dangerous deliveries James offers can only help boost his strike tally.

'I like his deliveries as well,' he added. 'He takes his time and doesn't just cross it. He lifts his head up and tries to pick you out. It's these little things that, as time goes on, he will definitely improve on and build on.'

While his accuracy from crosses might be a handlful for opposition sides, the real menace James poses is with his raw pace - notably in September against Leicester he clocked in a top speed of 21.76mph.

Rashford has proven to be something of a speed demon himself, notching an even higher speed of 22.57mph against Crystal Palace in August, and although James has joked that the pair should race, United's leading forward isn't so keen.

'I don't know about that!' he laughed. 'I won't be racing him, that's for sure!'

'Daniel James is a work in progress': Gary Neville suggests winger should be THIRD OR FOURTH in line for Manchester United and says likes of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez are at a 'far higher level' than him

* Dan James still has work to do at Man United, claims club legend Gary Neville
* The winger has been flying this season but Neville says he is a rough diamond
* He believes James is eclipsed by the likes of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez
* Welshman James signed for United from Swansea City for £15m last summer

Dan James is a diamond in the rough and still has work to do to develop into a top player, according to former Manchester United defender Gary Neville.

The Welsh winger is in his first season at Old Trafford since his £15million transfer from Swansea last summer, and he enjoyed an electric start to the campaign as he bagged three goals in his first four games.

He has nailed down a regular spot in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's line-up and has continued to contribute to the team with six assists, and some have tipped him to be the next big thing to come through at the club.

Daniel James has been turning heads this season at United with his electric performances. Ex-United man Gary Neville says Dan James is far from the finished product and has work to do

But club legend Gary Neville has brought the 21-year-old back down to Earth and believes he still has things he needs to work on if he is to become truly top draw and establish himself among the elite.

'Daniel James is more of a work in progress,' he said on Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool's clash with United on Sunday. 'He's showed glimpses of what he can be. I see him as being one of three or four wide players at United over a season.'

The Sky Sports pundit and commentator believes that James' rivals at Manchester City are currently performing at a much higher level than him and even added that James should not even be first choice for United.

Neville feels that James should be further down the pecking order to start for Man United. James has displayed frightening pace this season and has scored six goals, adding six assists

'I think when you look at Sterling, Mahrez and Bernardo Silva, they're at a far higher level than Daniel James.

'There's got to be an element of holding back a bit, but in a 22-man squad, you'd want James to be the third or fourth wide man.'

James was named in the starting line-up for the trip to league leaders Liverpool, the Welshman being picked to start in 24 games overall this season, coming off the bench just four times.

While a former player might not be happy with his progress, his team-mate Marcus Rashford recently sung his praises, saying he has proven to be a 'nightmare' for opposition defences this term.

'Dan has been brilliant since he came in,' Rashford, he said in the club's matchday programme.

'He works hard in every single game and, when it comes down to it, that is all you can ask of each player – to give it all they've got.

'He definitely does that and, if we can adapt more to his playing style, he can cause some teams nightmares down the right-hand side, as we've seen in some games this season.'

DANIEL JAMES: IT'S ALWAYS BEST TO SPEAK OUT

Manchester United winger Daniel James is on a mission to encourage people struggling with their mental health to speak out, after revealing how talking has helped him to deal with the passing of his father.

The Welsh international opened up on a visit to the home of Place 2 Place FC in Wigan, a sports and social club that uses football to prompt conversations around emotional difficulties.

The charity was set up by Peter Hill, from the Beech Hill suburb of Wigan, after his best friend committed suicide in 2014 at the age of just 30.

In December, Daniel saw a BBC North West Tonight report on Place 2 Place, shortly after Hill had been named the winner of the region’s ‘Unsung Sporting Hero’ award for 2019.

After tweeting that he would love to meet Peter and the club’s members, a meeting was set up.

James spent three hours with the group at the home of Winstanley Warriors – who provide pitches for Place 2 Place – and watched the games, posed for photographs and chatted to participants about their stories.

Daniel told the BBC that the club’s work had touched him, because of his own struggles following the death of his dad, Kevan, shortly before he completed his transfer from Swansea City to United last summer.

“It didn’t really hit me until about three months [after],” admitted the 22-year-old. “I think being at United, and that he knew that I was going to United, was obviously a massive thing for me.

“From then on, I just wanted to make him proud and play for an amazing club, a club I’ve always wished to play for, and for him to look down on me and say, ‘I’m proud of you’. I think that’s helped me so much, just to stay positive.

“Sometimes there are times when you can’t. When something like that happens, it’s always best to speak out. When I have, and I’ve spoken to people in similar situations, it’s helped me so much.”

Soon after Hill’s best friend passed away, two other men from the same family also took their own lives, which forced Peter into action – first via a charity bike ride and, later, starting Place 2 Place FC.

“I think it’s amazing what Peter’s done here,” said United’s no. 21. “Obviously you’ve got the football aspect, but in the intervals and stuff like that they speak to each other and share different stories, which is fantastic.

“Getting the message out there to speak out is huge. You can be the brightest person in the room, but people never know what’s really going on inside, and the hardest thing obviously is to speak out. Peter and myself are trying to encourage people to be able to speak out and speak to others, and not to be afraid to do that.”

JAMES EXCLUSIVE: HOW FERNANDES HAS IMPRESSED

Daniel James is impressed by the way that new signing Bruno Fernandes is settling in at Manchester United, following the playmaker’s transfer from Sporting Lisbon in late January.

Our young Wales international was full of praise for the Portuguese while speaking after the first session of a warm-weather training camp in southern Spain. It was only the second time that Daniel had trained alongside Bruno, whose first workout was completed on 31 January ahead of his United debut a day later.

As you can read here, in our exclusive interview, James is confident that he can form a positive relationship with Fernandes and make the most of his creativity. But before getting on to the no.18, our lightning-fast forward offers his thoughts on the trip so far, the conditions and his own fitness at this stage of the campaign…

Dan, we're here in southern Spain and day one of training is complete. How was it for you?
“Yeah it was obviously great. We had a little break and it is nice to come out here and train, get a little bit of fitness and get a bit back into our legs, so it has been a good session today.”

These conditions, by the way, are absolutely stunning and it is not quite the same as Manchester. How beneficial will this be for the lads?
“Yeah I think it is great. Obviously, these warm-weather camps always help and always benefit us when we get back home. I think it is good to get out here. It is obviously a little bit warmer than it is at home. It is good to get here and get the last few weeks out of our legs, which will really benefit us when we go back.”

You looked sharp in the training that we saw today. How are you feeling physically at this stage of the season?
“Yeah I feel great. I think the week that has just gone was a time to get your legs up and get away from football for the week. Coming back here [to Spain]I think everybody is in great condition and is ready for the rest of the season.”

We have some new signings and two of them are here, with the highest profile being Bruno Fernandes. How is he settling in and what do you make of him so far?
“Yeah he is settling in great. I know quite a few of the boys speak his language and he speaks great English as well. So I think as soon as he came in he put his stamp on the game and he showed what he is about in that last game, on his debut. He was great, with the balls he played in behind and, for me, if we can get that bond, especially playing it in behind, I think that will be great.”

Looking ahead to the season run-in, we're fighting in the Premier League and there is a chance of winning two cup competitions as well. What would that mean at this stage of your career?
“Yeah it would mean everything. That is why I am at this club, to win trophies. We have got a great chance in both of them. Obviously we have got the Premier League game on Monday [against Chelsea] and then we have got that Europa League game [against Club Brugge] on Thursday, so we will go into both of those with our heads held high.”

Daniel James 'set to be offered wage hike' as Manchester United prepare to reward winger with new deal

* Daniel James has had impressive debut season and is set to be rewarded for it
* United are reportedly preparing to improve is current deal in the summer
* James has played 34 games in all competitions so far for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United are 'preparing to offer Daniel James a new deal' this summer.

The winger has enjoyed a stellar debut season and is set to be rewarded with improved terms on his contract.

According to the Sun, United are ready to improve the current terms after his impressive first year at Old Trafford.

Daniel James is set to be given an improved deal at Manchester United this summer. James has played plenty of games for United and was thrown in at the deep end

The 22-year-old joined from Swansea last year on a five-year deal and was immediately thrown into the first team.

His form has tailed off since the start of the season slightly but James remains a key member of the United squad.

James is highly regarded by those off the club and his iron-clad mentality for a young player has also been praised.

He has played 27 games in the Premier League this season and another seven in cup competitions.

The Welshman has scored three times and assisted on six occasions in total.

JAMES TARGETS MORE GOALS AFTER SCORING AT LASK

Livewire forward Daniel James is determined to score more goals before the end of the season, after netting his first since August in Manchester United’s 5-0 win over LASK in the Europa League.

The young Wales international made a blistering start to his Reds career by netting three times in his first four appearances, yet he had not bagged since then – or at least until Thursday night in Austria.

James, whose performances have earned praise in recent weeks, latched onto a pass from Odion Ighalo, drove at his marker and dispatched a low shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lauded his attitude following the final whistle, and while speaking to us, Daniel quickly thanked the boss and his coaching staff for trusting in him throughout his debut campaign.

“It is nice to score,” said Daniel. “Maybe I haven't scored as many goals as I wanted to recently. I got off to a good start but recently it has not been at the standards that I have wanted to be. Thanks to all of the coaches, the manager for trusting in me, working with me every day. I had that chance in the first half and I was a bit gutted about it, but it was just about going out there and if I got the chance, they said to drive and have shots. That's what I did and thankfully it went in.”

James has added another dimension to United’s attack this season, with his hard-working performances and direct dribbling helping him to become an instant hit among Reds supporters. While Daniel is keen to explain his game is about more than goals, he is relieved to score again.

“Yeah I think it is,” he told us. “You have just got to go head on because you never know. There are games coming thick and fast. You can score in every game, you can improve and look back on what you can do more. As a player I give a lot more than goals, I try to create them and work hard for the team, but today was about getting off the mark and now I can capitalise to get more now.”

As for the experience of playing LASK in a behind-closed-doors environment, James admits it took him back to his youth-team days and paid tribute to United’s professionalism under the circumstances.

“I think it takes you back to your younger days when you played in front of nobody,” the former Swansea City man said. “But, all of the boys had to be professional out there, it was a very important game, we had to treat it as any other game and, even though the fans aren't here, we know they are watching at home. It was about whether we could go there, press and do what we have to do. We scored some great goals and keeping that clean sheet is very important.”

Attention now turns to Sunday’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur and James is eager to feature again, as the Reds hope to extend an 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

“That is what we boys love, big games,” says James. “We had a big game tonight and we've got that one on Sunday as well which is massive, back in the Premier League and we hope we can climb that table.”

Default Re: Daniel Owen James

Agak Berlebihan Bandingkan Daniel James dengan Gareth Bale
Novitasari Dewi Salusi - detikSport

Jakarta - Winger Manchester United, Daniel James, mengagumi Gareth Bale.

"Tapi dibandingkan dengannya saya kira terlalu berlebihan. Apa yang sudah dia lakukan dalam kariernya, bagaimana dia berpindah dari bek kiri ke gelandang kiri, menjuarai Liga Champions... apa yang sudah dia lakukan itu luar biasa."

"Pemain sepertinya jadi panutan, tapi saya kira dibandingkan dengannya agak lucu," katanya.
