Default Andrea Belotti

Manchester United make first move for Torino forward Andrea Belotti with club prepared to bid £64m

* Torino forward Andrea Belotti has scored 25 goals in Serie A this season
* The 24-year-old's current contract at the Italian club runs up until 2021
* He has an escape clause for a move abroad set at nearly £85m
* Belotti is aiming to fulfil his ambition of playing in the Champions League

Manchester United have made the first move in the race to sign Andrea Belotti from Torino.

United have made it clear through intermediaries that they are prepared to pay £64million for the 23-year-old who has scored 25 goals in Serie A this season.

Belotti signed a new contract last year, tying the Italian international to Torino until 2021 and has an escape clause for a move abroad set at nearly £85m.

But his club accept the striker signed from Palermo two years ago wants to move on soon in order fulfil his ambition of playing in the Champions League.

United still face tests to secure a return to Europe’s premier club competition next season.

Manchester United have made the first move in the race to sign Andrea Belotti from Torino. The Italian forward has scored 25 goals in 31 appearances in Serie A this season

Jose Mourinho’s team trail in fifth in the Premier League with injury problems mounting although they can clinch a place by winning the Europa League.

They will play the first leg of a semi-final against Celta Vigo in Spain on Thursday.

Chelsea will be monitoring the situation because Antonio Conte has studied Belotti’s progress and is a keen admirer.

With his team four points clear at the top of the league, Conte can offer Champions League football with more confidence.

And Belotti is thought to prefer the idea of a move to London.

United, however, will test Torino with hard cash as they search for reinforcements up front with Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured and Wayne Rooney fading from favour and likely to depart.

Manchester United will have to pay £88m to snare striker Andrea Belotti, says Torino president

* Urbano Cairo has insisted on a huge transfer fee for Andrea Belotti
* Italy international has release clause of £88million which must be activated
* Cairo told Italian radio that he thinks Belotti wants to remain at Torino
* Jose Mourinho is known to be in the market for a top-level striker this summer

Torino president Urbano Cairo will only allow Andrea Belotti to leave for Manchester United if the striker's £88million release clause is triggered.

Belotti enjoyed a superb campaign last season and has attracted interest from Jose Mourinho but Torino are determined to hold onto their prized asset.

Cairo told Radio 24 in Italy: 'I care about Belotti and I'm keeping hold of him.

'He has a contract with Toro until 2021. I would only sell him for €100million (£88m), but even then he can refuse.

'The most important thing is what he wants, regardless of the release clause, and I think he wants to stay.'

Torino striker and Italy international Andrea Belotti will cost clubs £88million. The prolific forward scored 28 goals for his club in all competitions last season

United are in the market for a star striker to lead the line next season with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's future uncertain following injury and Wayne Rooney seemingly coming to the end of his tenure with the club.

Belotti is one of the players Mourinho would like to lure to Old Trafford but the 23-year-old will not come cheap.

Whether the Old Trafford club are willing to part with £88m remains to be seen but Belotti certainly attracted attention with eye-catching displays last season for the mid-table Serie A side.

The dynamic forward scored 28 goals in all competitions for his club and provided seven assists for team-mates making him one of the most sought-after hit-men in European football.

Manchester United target Andrea Belotti 'has to stick with Torino until 2021', insists Italian club's president

* Manchester United are looking to bolster their attacking options this summer
* Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho is targeting Torino striker Andrea Belotti
* Italy international has release clause of £88million which must be activated
* Torino president Urbano Cairo has revealed United are yet to bid for their star

Torino chief Urbano Cairo has revealed Manchester United are yet to bid for Andrea Belotti — and suggested the striker will stay with them for at least four more years.

Belotti starred for the Italians last season, scoring 28 goals, and has attracted interest from Jose Mourinho while Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are also keen.

Mourinho is on the lookout for a new forward this summer following the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the expected exit of captain Wayne Rooney.

But Cairo, who previously revealed Belotti has a £88million release clause, says the club have no intention of parting ways with their prized asset.

'I've not had any contact from anyone,' Cairo told Sky Sports Italia. 'Not from PSG, Manchester United or AC Milan.

'He's under contract until 2021 and that means he has to stick with us.

'I care about Belotti and I'm keeping hold of him.

'We are trying to build the best possible team at Torino.'
