A third member of Evans family working at Man Utd
-tribalfootball.com-

The father of Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is now working as a coach with the club.

Both Jonny and Corry Evans are on the books at United and reserve-team coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits their Dad is also now part of the club.

“He’s (Jonny) a great lad, he’s gone through the ranks, he’s gone through the system and he knows that you don’t just suddenly, when you go into the first team, change your character," Solskjaer told BBC Northern Ireland.

"He knows where he’s come from. He’s come from a football family, his little brother Corry plays for the reserves, he’s played for the first team of Northern Ireland as well, his dad’s a coach here so he’s got all the grounding from back home.”

Man Utd boss Ferguson sees Genoa coach Gasperini as his next No2
10.12.09 | tribalfootball.com

Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini is being followed by Manchester United.

Tuttosport says Gasperini has impressed United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who has recommended the 51 year-old to chief executive David Gill as his potential successor.

Initially, Ferguson wants United to sign Gasperini as his assistant with the idea of grooming him for the top job once he retires.

Gasperini is tied to Genoa until 2012 and has transformed the club into a Serie A force since their return to the top-flight.

================================================== ============

Manchester United Tracking Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini - Report
Salvatore Landolina, Goal.com

Manchester United are said to be following Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini with great interest with a view to signing him.

According to Tuttosport, Sir Alex Ferguson is impressed with the 51-year-old's style of football in the port city and wants him at Old Trafford as his technical assistant.

The report claims Ferguson will help guide Gasperini into becoming the full-time manager there once the Scot calls it a day. Gasperini has been followed for a while now with a number of United scouts visiting Marassi on different occasions.

It is said Fergie is particularly attracted to Gasperini's unique style of football with Genoa becoming renowned for a hard-working, yet fluent pattern of play. But luring him could be a struggle as the Italian is fully committed to Genoa with his current deal not expiring until 2012. Furthermore, Fiorentina, Napoli and Juventus have all shown an interest in him previously.

But a major offer from England could lead to him taking action and following Carlo Ancelotti to the Premier League.

The ‘unsung heroes’ behind Manchester United’s prolific Academy
Date: 17th December 2009 at 8:00 pm

Solskjaer after a glittering career now works behind the scenes at United

Manchester United’s emphasis on the development and use of youth is nothing new. In the 50’s Joe Armstrong and Jimmy Murphy recruited and trained a set of young men that went on into the first team and under Sir Matt Busby became ‘The Busby Babes’. At the time this was a rarity as rather than develop players, teams usually just bought them but the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, Duncan Edwards and Liam Whelan more than proved they were worthy of first team football with their outstanding talent and performances. Sadly in 1958 the dynasty was cut short after 8 of the babes were killed in the Munich air disaster.

In the early 90s another United dynasty was built under Brian Kidd and Eric Harrison, they would go on to become ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’. Consisting of Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Robbie Savage and Keith Gillespie amongst others whilst some would depart and forge careers elsewhere the core of the team would remain at Old Trafford and help set United on their way to a period of dominance in English football that is yet to be replicated.

United’s youth set up and scouting system is one of the most revered in football and rightly so. It has spotted as well as produced some real talents of the game that have gone on to shine not only at Old Trafford but elsewhere.

Ryan Shawcross of Stoke has so impressed at the Britannia stadium that he is being linked with a move back to Old Trafford whilst Chris Eagles is an integral part of a Burnley squad looking to stave off relegation. United’s players can be found all over the league with Frazier Campbell, Sylvan Ebanks Blake and Jonathan Greening all in the top flight whilst the likes of Giuseppe Rossi and Gerard Pique are now making their name in Spain.

So now with a new wave of talent at Old Trafford, who is responsible for what could possibly be another great United dynasty?

Previously Ricky Sbragia managed the reserve team developing the likes of Darren Fletcher and Kieran Richardson whilst Les Kershaw was the director of the academy but now there are new faces in charge of the development of United’s promising youth.

Rene Meulensteen as well as being a first team coach helps with the teaching of technical skills, he has held the position before as well as previously managing the reserves so has experience working with youngsters.

Tony Whelan is the assistant academy director and is in charge of the development of all players at United aged 9-16. He was invited to coach at United’s centre of excellence in 1990 and when the academy was established in 1998 he joined the full time staff. Having previously played for the club he has been with United for over 20 years.

The son of a Busby Babe, Paul McGuinness’ role at the club is very important as well as being assistant academy director he is in charge of the development of players aged 17-21, a vital stage in their careers. If you combine this with his position as u18 manager, then McGuinness probably has a great say in who progresses into the first team at United.

The most recognisable of United’s youth staff is current reserve manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After gaining his coaching badges in 2008 Sir Alex Ferguson wasted no time in making him the reserve manager and he impressed instantly winning Manchester Senior Cup as well as the Lancashire Senior Cup and finishing second in the reserve league but it is not only his on field success that makes him a useful addition. He builds a rapport with the players making them want to perform for him as well as proving a useful figure in attracting young talent to the club.

This is team is headed by former United forward Brian McClair who has run United’s academy since 2006 following years of shadowing Les Kershaw the previous head. He is in charge of the development of over 150 kids amongst other things and travels abroad to see United’s talent based abroad. He previously managed the u19s as well as the reserve side handing the reigns over to Solskjaer.

Together this team is responsible for nurturing the talent that will look to carry on the rich tradition at the club and with players like Davide Petrucci, Reece Brown, Ryan Tuncliffe, Paul Pogba and Nick Ajose it is definitely an exciting time.

Default Re: Manchester United, Coach and Staff News (John Alexander as a New Club Secretary)

20/12/2009 10:30, Report by Communications Dept.
Reds appoint new Club Secretary

Manchester United has appointed John Alexander, currently Club Secretary at Tottenham Hotspur, as only its fifth Secretary since the War. He will take up the post when Ken Ramsden retires at the end of the season.

John has been the Secretary at Spurs since 2000 and before that was Club Secretary at Watford. He began his association with the game as a player with Millwall, Reading and Northampton Town, before retiring in 1982.

His appointment follows a recruitment process, announced in September 2009, which included advertisements in national newspapers which attracted many high quality applications from the world of football and beyond. John will join the Group Executive committee at the Club.

David Gill welcomed the appointment. He said: “John is the perfect candidate to succeed Ken. He is a real football man with a wealth of experience in the game. Everyone is delighted that he has accepted the chance to play a major part in the Club’s development. The Club would like to thank Spurs for their co-operation during this process, in particular agreeing to John’s early release from his contractual obligations, which allows us to ensure continuity in the post when Ken retires.”

John Alexander said: “I am honoured to be offered the chance to be the Secretary at the world’s biggest football club. I have a series of very hard acts to follow, but I am looking forward to working with Sir Alex, David Gill and the team. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Tottenham and leave with very happy memories. I would like to thank Daniel Levy, the Board and all my colleagues there for all the help and support I have received over the last ten seasons.”

John Alexander is only the fifth post-war Secretary at Manchester United. He follows Walter Crickmer (who filled the post from 1926-1958 but died in the Munich air disaster), Les Olive (1958-1988), Kenneth Merrett (1988-2007) and Ken Ramsden (2007-2010).
==========================
Welcome John Alexander to OT..... Sekretaris Club yang baru untuk menggantikan Ken Ramsden yang pensiun di tahun depan (2010)...

Sacked Manchester United steward claims
revolt at Old Trafford

Boden lost his job after 19 years at Old Trafford after attempting to return an anti-Glazer banner that had been confiscated from supporters

The scale of the anti-Glazer movement has been laid bare with internal divisions over the Americans’ controversial ownership of Manchester United beginning to emerge.

A steward with 19 years of service at Old Trafford has been sacked for siding with the Glazer protesters. He has claimed that growing numbers of people employed by United are becoming increasingly opposed to a regime that has left the Barclays Premier League champions £716.5 million in debt.

Granville Boden, 53, was dismissed by CES, the security firm employed by United on match days, after attempting to return an anti-Glazer banner, confiscated by stewards during the league game against Burnley at Old Trafford last month, to the supporters who displayed it.

Boden said that he was appalled at the heavy-handed tactics employed by CES staff to remove the banner forcibly — and the fans responsible for it — from the Stretford End and revealed that a 20-man stand-off later ensued between those stewards sympathetic to the anti-Glazer movement and those enforcing club policy.
Although the confrontation did not descend into a fist fight, Boden said that it was reflective of the “wider internal divisions” beginning to emerge and claimed that four other stewards had been disciplined for wearing green and gold, the colours of United’s original incarnation as Newton Heath that have been adopted as a symbol of supporter opposition.

Boden also claimed that three of the club’s catering staff had been sent home for sporting green-and-gold garments, although United denied that was the case and said that one person had been told to stop wearing such attire because it contravened uniform regulations. Other supporters wearing green-and-gold scarfs and hats have been prevented from entering executive lounges until they remove the garments, although United insist that they have not issued such a directive.

Boden was sacked after removing the banner confiscated during the Burnley game from the security offices and taking it to his car with a view to returning it to its owners, only for the offending item to be seized by CES, which provides about 500 stewards on match days at Old Trafford.

Although he expressed regret that he was never asked to give his account of what happened, Boden said that he “fully accepted” the decision to dismiss him because he had defied his employers, but opted to speak out to reveal the animosity towards the Glazers among many club workers.

“There is a lot of internal conflict between the staff and I think that conflict is only going to grow as the protests against the Glazers gather more momentum,” Boden said. “There are a lot of staff at the club who are sympathetic to what the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust [MUST] are trying to achieve. I don’t regret anything I did.”

United said that the banner had to be removed against Burnley because it was concealing the scoreboard, which is also used to display messages in an emergency. They said that they did not prohibit peaceful demonstrations.

MUST has sold about 8,000 green-and-gold scarfs, although the total number purchased from all vendors is thought to be closer to 30,000.
