Manchester United fans 'plan ANOTHER protest' against under-pressure Glazer family, with supporters set to 'REFUSE to enter the stadium' for crunch Liverpool game later this month

* Manchester United fans are reportedly set to protest against their owners again
* Fans could refuse to enter the stadium for Man United's game against Liverpool
* Protestors have regularly made their desires for the Glazer family to leave clear
* Man United have built up £495.7million worth of debt with little to show for it

Several Manchester United fans are threatening to boycott the Red Devils' game against Liverpool next weekend in protest against the Glazer family, according to a new report.

The game will be United's next home game, and is the same fixture that was postponed last season after protestors stormed the Old Trafford pitch in May.

This season's game is unlikely to be at risk of postponement, but, according to The Times, several supporters will refuse to attend the game in an attempt to send another strong message to their under-pressure owners.

Despite the appointment of new manager Erik ten Hag at the start of the summer, United lost 2-1 to Brighton on the Premier League opening weekend and were completely outplayed at Old Trafford against Graham Potter's side.

The Glazer family have come under immense criticism from Manchester United fans. United fans have regularly made their desires for the family to leave heard at Old Trafford

Fans have criticised the Glazers for a lack of investment both on and off the pitch, while also bashing the family for poor signings and managerial decisions since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The protest would see fans remain outside the stadium for the duration of the game and it has gained traction on social media, with '#EmptyOldTrafford' trending on Twitter on Wednesday.

More than 55,000 posts have reportedly been made dedicated to the event, which would be the latest in a series of vocal objections from United's disillusioned fanbase.

Banners have been held outside the ground in recent times protesting against the owners. United have built up £495.7million worth of debt with little to show for it on the pitch. The protestors are due to set up shop outside Old Trafford again when they face Liverpool

The Glazers took over United in 2005, but their most recent accounts showed a club debt of £495.7million with very little to show for it.

The planned protest is similar to that of Valencia, whose fans stood outside the Mestalla Stadium during their final match of last season in protest against unpopular owner Peter Lim.

United supporters have protested several times against the Galazers in the recent past, with acts ranging from the pitch invasions to walkouts during games.

Anti-Glazer chants can often be heard in the terraces at Old Trafford, and, despite co-chairman Joel Glazer's efforts to rebuild the relationship between the fans and the hierarchy, it seems it will be a while until everyone is on the same page at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag is giving 'serious consideration' to DROPPING captain Harry Maguire against Liverpool... but players already feel new boss' style 'does not suit their skill set' and have their own ideas

* Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is considering dropping Harry Maguire
* The England international has started both of United's matches so far this season
* Ten Hag may start Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in defence vs Liverpool

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly considering dropping captain Harry Maguire for the visit of Liverpool on Monday evening.

The England international has started both of United's Premier League matches so far this season, which resulted in defeats to Brighton and Brentford, leaving them sitting bottom of the league table for the first time since August 1992.

Maguire has played alongside new £55.3million United signing Lisandro Martinez in both of those games, but it could be all change when they face the Reds, as they look to turn their fortunes around.

The former Ajax boss is said to be mulling over the prospect of starting new boy Martinez with Raphael Varane, who will almost certainly be recalled, according to Manchester Evening News.

The same report suggests that players already feel Ten Hag's approach does not suit their skill set and they have their own ideas of how they should approach the match against Liverpool.

United struggled against Jurgen Klopp's side last season, suffering a 5-0 defeat at Old Trafford and then losing 4-0 at Anfield later in the campaign.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire could be dropped for the visit of Liverpool next. New boss Erik ten Hag has started Maguire in both of United's opening two league defeats. Ten Hag is mulling over the prospect of starting Raphael Varane with Lisandro Martinez against Liverpool. United players already feel incoming boss Ten Hag's approach does not suit their skill set

Maguire was previously dropped from the starting line-up by interim head coach Ralf Rangnick for the Red Devils' 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in April.

The 29-year-old has retained his captaincy under the new boss despite coming under intense criticism last season and even having fans calling for him to be stripped of the armband.

In pre-season, Ten Hag claimed Maguire and Martinez would be his first choice centre-back partnership.

'We bring him in to not strengthen the squad, but the team,' Ten Hag said of Martinez. 'Is Maguire a first-choice? I think he is.

'He's proved it in the past but he also has to prove it in the present time and in the future.

'He has played how many times? Sixty times for England? He is a career that is really impressive and I expect a lot from him.

'But there is also internal competition and that is what a club like Man United needs.'

United face Liverpool on Monday night as Ten Hag's side go in search of a much-needed win.

Rio Ferdinand urges Erik ten Hag to 'throw the kids in' for Liverpool clash because Manchester United's under-performing stars 'don't deserve the shirt'

* Rio Ferdinand thinks it is time to give Manchester United's youngsters a chance
* He told his Vibe With Five podcast playing youngsters will send out a message
* The 43-year-old says Zidane Iqbal, James Garner and Charlie Savage should play
* Erik ten Hag's side have suffered a disastrous start following consecutive losses

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed the three youngsters he believes should be given a chance by Erik ten Hag after his disastrous start to his tenure at Old Trafford.

The 43-year-old believes Ten Hag should give more game time to trio Zidane Iqbal, Charlie Savage and James Garner, as United look to bounce back from consecutive defeats, including Saturday's shock 4-0 result at Brentford.

United now sit bottom of the league with a -5 goal difference after two games, and Ferdinand told his Vibe With Five podcast that he believes it is now time for Ten Hag to send a message to his senior players.

He said: 'Do you know what? Throw the kids in, I would. You know why? When you don't get effort, you don't deserve to get the shirt. When you don't get the right application, you don't deserve to get the shirt.

Former Man United star Rio Ferdinand believes it is time for Erik ten Hag to play his youngsters. Zidane Iqbal drew praise from supporters after his performances during pre-season. Charlie Savage is yet to make his senior debut at the club but has received Ferdinand's backing

'When you don't have the balls to play, you don't deserve to get the shirt. When you're not working, when you're not running yourself into the ground, you don't deserve to wear the shirt.

'There are young kids in there, Jimmy Garner, Charlie Savage, Zidane [Iqbal], all these other kids, whether they’re good enough in terms of whether they’re good players, in the long run, is not the point for me.

'I think it’s beyond that, you need to send a message to people and say you aren’t just going to keep getting the shirt.

'Mistake after mistake, lack of application every week, desire not there, moaning behind the scenes - probably.

'I bet they’re all moaning and pointing the finger, it’s not good enough. Put the kids in.'

Ten Hag has thus far shown faith with the majority of the players he inherited this summer, with only Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez starting out of the three signings he has made this summer.

And although United's pre-season was largely over-shadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to leave the club, the tour of Thailand and Australia saw Iqbal and Savage impress.

Iqbal featured in all but one pre-season match, missing the 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, whilst Savage was also a prominent member of the Red Devils' preparations for the new season.

Ten Hag has so far shown faith with players who were a mainstay last season but to no avail. James Garner featured heavily as Nottingham Forest won promotion under Steve Cooper

Garner was a prominent member of Steve Cooper's promotion-winning Nottingham Forest side last season, featuring 44 times, scoring four goals and assisting eight more.

With United's midfield coming under heavy scrutiny once again, Ferdinand's suggestion to play the three players - all of whom are midfielders - comes at a time when Ten Hag will surely be asking himself 'could it really get any worse?'

United are next in action on Monday when they welcome a Liverpool side that are doing only marginally better this season, with two points from two games.

Wayne Rooney urges Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag NOT to play Cristiano Ronaldo against Liverpool for crunch Premier League clash, claiming his old side need energy on the pitch against rivals

* Wayne Rooney has called for Erik ten Hag to drop Cristiano Ronaldo tomorrow
* United face rivals Liverpool in a game they lost 5-0 at Old Trafford last season
* Rooney has said United need energy in the game and could lose heavily again
* The DC United manager also criticised United's £70million signing of Casemiro

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has told Erik ten Hag not to play Cristiano Ronaldo against Liverpool on Monday evening.

United's all-time top goalscorer has urged the Red Devils boss to get energy on the pitch, which would mean leaving out the 36-year-old's former team-mate for the game.

Via the Times, Rooney said: 'I wouldn’t play Cristiano Ronaldo, and I wouldn’t play Marcus Rashford.

'If I was in Ten Hag’s position my main concern would be getting energy on the pitch, and United’s failure to recruit a number nine means they relied on Ronaldo against Brentford, even though he hadn’t trained a lot with the team.

'He looked like he needs time to get match fit. ten Hag needs energy from his side and that may mean dropping Ronaldo.'

Rooney also described United's 4-0 drubbing against Brentford last weekend as 'hard to watch', saying he has 'never seen Manchester United so lacking in those basic qualities'.

'Football has developed tactically and improved technically during my time in the game, but the basics don’t change,' he said.

'If you don’t run, if you don’t put in the effort, you can lose to any team. I have never seen Manchester United so lacking in those basic qualities. Their hammering by Brentford was hard to watch.

Wayne Rooney has warned Manchester United against starting Cristiano Ronaldo on Monday

'If that had happened to any of the United teams I played for, I think fans, journalists and every other team in the country would have been shocked, but people weren’t with this side. The most worrying thing is that neither the result nor performance surprised me.'

Rooney won five Premier League titles as a player for United, the last coming in 2013, but United haven't won a championship since and are currently bottom of the Premier League.

Several managers have come and gone since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, with Erik ten Hag the latest in a long list of triers.

'Erik ten Hag was right to call players out and speak about hunger, and it was fair enough for him to get them in for extra training, where he asked them to run the same distance that Brentford outran them by,' said Rooney.

'ten Hag will have done a lot of soul-searching this week and will be making a lot of demands to get a reaction out of his players, I’m sure.

'But with this group, this has been happening for so long that changing their ways is going to take something drastic. They’re emotionless — there is no character, no heart in the team.

'I’m not talking about every player. Harry Maguire will always try, Fred will always try and Scott McTominay may not be Paul Scholes or Michael Carrick but he will always go out and show some balls. Those three have been trying to lift the group, but it comes down to individuals to take responsibility.

Rooney has also called for Marcus Rashford to be dropped for the game at Old Trafford

'As for Marcus, I think he needs to do a lot of soul-searching and figure out what he wants, for his own good, before anything else. Because watching him is a real concern, he looks like he wants to be anywhere but on a football pitch.

'Watching United, I see players throwing their arms up and shouting at team-mates but I don’t see them talking, or looking at themselves before blaming others. I see them making eye-catching runs to close down the goalkeeper but not 50-yard runs back to stop an attack.'

'I see them going up to the crowd after the game apologising or coming out on social media with all the guff: “We go again.” The fans see through that. My message would be: stop apologising, just get on with your job — and work. That’s all the fans want. They want to see them taking responsibility in the 90 minutes.'

United lost their first two games of the season against Brighton and Brentford and are up against it Monday in a crunch game against long-term rivals Liverpool.

United lost 5-0 in the same fixture last season, which was rearranged because of protests against the club's owners, the Glazer family.

Anther protest is being planned for tomorrow's game, but Rooney has warned United need to be on song or risk suffering another heavy defeat.

'We should remember that this is only the start of Ten Hag’s reign, that he’ll need time and that he’ll have identified a number of issues to address when the time is right. He clearly wants to see the players he inherited and give them a chance.

'But he also needs to do something quickly and the first priority is, against Liverpool, to just compete and have a go. Do that and the fans will accept it, even if United get beaten. Play like they did against Brentford, and United will suffer an even worse result than their 5-0 defeat by Liverpool last season.

'I don’t expect that to happen, by the way — I can’t see United winning, but I believe there’ll be a reaction and they’ll lose by the odd goal, or even snatch a draw.'

Rooney also questioned new United signing Casemiro, who won't be available to face Liverpool, but could be the solution to United's long-term midfield problems.

'This goes back to the need to look to the future,' said the current DC United manager.

'Ideally, they should be signing players in their early to mid-twenties, and Casemiro is similar to Christian Eriksen — someone who has been a good player, but are they going to help the club move forward? Frenkie de Jong, Ten Hag’s principal midfield target, would be a better fit.

'The Casemiro deal seems to have come from nowhere, and looks a reactive signing — I’d be surprised if he was a player identified as a priority to bring in when ten Hag arrived.

'It looks like, having been unable to sign de Jong, United just reacted to Casemiro being available.'

PLAYER RATINGS: Lisandro Martinez answers his critics with all-action performance for Manchester United in derby win over Liverpool, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has a night to forget

* Manchester United put in a stellar performance to beat rivals Liverpool 2-1
* Liverpool struggled to settle and have not won any of their opening three games
* United defender Lisandro Martinez put in his best performance since joining
* Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold struggled defensively throughout the game

Manchester United picked up their first points of the Premier League season with a controlled 2-1 win over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

In a match that threatened to be overshadowed by protests from United fans, the hosts came flying out the blocks, putting pressure on Liverpool from the off and deservedly went 1-0 up in the first-half after a smart finish from Jadon Sancho.

United then made it 2-0 through Marcus Rashford before Mo Salah pulled a goal back for Liverpool, but United saw out the game to move ahead of their visitors in the table.

Sportsmail assess the performances of each of the players on what was a successful evening for Erik ten Hag's side.

MANCHESTER UNITED

De Gea: Surprisingly little to do for most part but a good save late on. Wisely chose to go long rather than trying to pass out from the back. 6.5

Dalot: Ferocious battle with Diaz, constant aggression impressed fans and did well to rein it in after his booking. Stopped Robertson causing damage too. 7.5

Varane: Commanding display at the heart of defence and always in the right place to cut out dangerous balls in the box. 8

Martinez: Answered his critics in some style. Crucial block to deny Salah, and an all-action irritant throughout. Smart ball in build-up to Sancho's goal. 8.5 - PLAYER OF THE MATCH

United defender Lisandro Martinez was the best player on the pitch at Old Trafford tonight

Malacia: Outstanding down the left going forward early on but just as crucial was his role in keeping Salah quiet. 7.5

Eriksen: May be more effective further forward but still picked passes and worked hard to thwart Liverpool in front of back four. 7

McTominay: Placed under threat but made a great case to stay in the team. Combative without the ball, smart balls forward when he had it. 7

Sancho: Composed finish for the goal. Fine movement and disciplined without the ball, tucking inside to force Liverpool wide. 7.5

Jadon Sancho scored a fine opener for Manchester United in what was a fast start. Sancho showed great composure to finish well, despite some poor defending from Liverpool

Fernandes: His best display in a United shirt for a long time – is it a coincidence Ronaldo wasn't playing? Booked for dive in second half. 8

Elanga: A threat down the left but hit the post when he should have scored. Withdrawn at half-time for Martial. 7

Rashford: Led the press from the front and a superb finish. He's found his confidence and now has five goals against Liverpool. 8

Marcus Rashford scored his first Premier League goal since January to put his side 2-0 up

ten Hag: Big calls to drop Maguire and Ronaldo vindicated. This was the high-intensity football he must want to see. 8

SUBSTITUTES:

Martial (for Elanga 46): 7.5

Fred (for Sancho 71): 6

Ronaldo (for Rashford 85): N/A

Wan-Bissaka (for Dalot 85): N/A

Van de Beek (for Eriksen 85): N/A

Gary Neville praises 'fight, tenacity and spirit' as Manchester United pull off surprise 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday night... but the Sky Sports pundit still insists it CAN'T be a 'one off' after team's poor start to the season

* Manchester United pulled off a shock 2-1 win over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool
* And United legend Gary Neville has called for that display to be the bench mark
* Goals from Jadon Sancho and Rashford either side of half-time proved decisive
* A late Mo Salah finish was not enough to get the visitors back into the game
* The former right-back praised the Red Devils' 'fight' as they outran the Reds
* However he was still insistent the club's owners the Glazer family 'need to go'

Gary Neville has called for Manchester United to build on their performance and show more spirit in their game following a shock 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Sky Sports pundit praised his former side's much-improved display against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool after two shocking losses in their opening fixtures of the 2022-23 campaign.

Goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford either side of half-time relieved some of the mounting pressure on Erik ten Hag's shoulders, despite Mo Salah's late striker, as United registered their first points of the season.

As part of Sky Sports' coverage of the game, Neville insisted: 'That can't be a one off. That's the standard that they've now set. I think they ran 12km more than last weekend?

'United teams who have done well have always had legs, pace up front. The boy Malacia at left back.

'A bit of fight, tenacity, spirit, the crowd were cheering after two minutes because of tackles and effort and that's a sad indictment of how United have been.

'United were under massive pressure tonight. It would have been awful if Liverpool had gone 1-0 or 2-0 up after 10 minutes. The owners still need to go by the way!'

The Red Devils' Dutch manager made several big calls prior to kick-off despite becoming the first manager at the club to lose his first two games in charge in over a century.

Gary Neville claimed Manchester United showed better fight and spirit against Liverpool. Erik ten Hag made big calls in benching Cristiano Ronaldo and club captain Harry Maguire. Neville however insisted the display could not be just a 'one off' performance

Ten Hag chose to drop his perennially under fire captain Harry Maguire and wantaway star Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of, what is for many fans, the biggest fixture in the Premier League calendar.

Their spots in the side were filled by Raphael Varane, who partnered new signing Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the United defence, and Anthony Elanga, who started on the wing as Rashford moved into a more central role.

And Neville was full of praise for the 'brave' calls made by the manager before the game, adding: 'I didn't think that was possible before the game. They've responded, making brave decisions, leaving the captain and star player on the bench.

'Bruno has responded. Martinez has played well alongside Varane. I can't believe what I've just witnessed. It was just the effort difference.

'They've out-run and out-sprinted Liverpool. They've shown tonight they are capable of doing it (out-running teams).

'Football fans want fight, passion, heart, running, that they care. Those players tonight have done that and wow did they need it. It's been bad in the last 7-10 days.'

United fans at the stadium were also treated to a first look at Casemiro, who is set to join the club on a four-year deal worth £375,000-per-week after a £70million move.

The move was not finalised in time for the grudge match that took place at Old Trafford, but he will likely be registered with the Premier League in time for United's next fixture.

Ten Hag's side travel to the south coast on Saturday, where they take on Southampton at St. Mary's in the hope that they can build on their first win of the campaign.
