Default Re: Marcus Rashford

WHY IS MARCUS RASHFORD GETTING A PLAQUE?

Manchester United's Head of Academy, Nicky Butt, says Marcus Rashford’s latest achievement in the first team deserves recognition at the Aon Training Complex.

The 21-year-old striker made his 100th Premier League appearance when he started last Sunday’s 1-0 victory at Leicester City, and he duly marked the occasion when he scored a winner in the first half.

Only Ryan Giggs has reached the same three-figure landmark at a younger age in the Premier League for United and only by 21 days, although the Welshman did have some outings in the competition's previous guise, the old Division One.

There are plans to honour Rashford's first ton of games at the Academy building, which already has graphics of Marcus and other homegrown talents adorning the corridors.

“It’s massive for anybody to go and make that many appearances for United,” Butt told us.

“Being an Academy lad, we’ll make a fuss of it and put a little plaque over there in the Academy building. We need to do it as it’s very important that we celebrate these boys doing things like this for our own club.

“In my opinion, it’s the biggest club in the world so for a player to be able to do that, from seven years old to play 100 games, is something we should be shouting from the rooftops. We are too humble.

“We are a humble club and we don’t speak about it too much, when we should speak about our kids playing that many times for the club. Equally, we should be really celebrating the lads who go elsewhere and make careers.

”There are only a few players who make it at this club, obviously, but there are others who still go on to have great careers. I was recently watching our Under-18s play and Danny Simpson was there watching too. He didn’t quite make it here at the level but went on to have a career. So we’ve also got to celebrate those lads as well.”

Rashford was pleased to reach the landmark at the King Power Stadium last weekend, coming on the back of reaching 150 appearances in all competitions, even if there is little time for him to reflect on the achievement.

“I think it’s definitely a proud moment,” he told MUTV.” I actually didn’t know it was coming so soon and was around the corner. It’s definitely something my family are proud of and I’m sure a lot of the staff here are proud of it too.”

'Rashford Akan Tidak Terhentikan'
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

Manchester United 'set to give Marcus Rashford lucrative six-year contract following breakthrough in negotiations'

* Marcus Rashford is set to sign a new six-year deal with Manchester United
* Rashford would earn around £200,000-a-week on deal which runs until 2025
* The striker has been hugely impressive under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Marcus Rashford is reportedly ready to sign a lucrative new six-year deal at Manchester United.

The England international endured some difficult moments under Jose Mourinho but has been a hugely important player for United since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker boss.

According to The Mirror, there has been a breakthrough in negotiations and Rashford is prepared to sign a new contract running until the summer of 2025, which would see him earn around £200,000-a-week.

Marcus Rashford is reportedly ready to sign a new six-year deal at Manchester United. Rashford has been hugely impressive under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Rashford's current contract runs until 2020, although there is an option for a further year.

The report indicates that Rashford had doubts over his future at Old Trafford while Mourinho was in charge, but the 21-year-old is now much happier.

Rashford has frequently been deployed up front by Solskjaer and has scored eight goals in his last 15 games.

During his United career so far, Rashford has won the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

United are eager to tie David De Gea to a new contract, but the goalkeeper isn't yet ready to commit his long-term future to the club.

Solskjaer's side, who are in fourth place in the Premier League table, host Liverpool on Sunday in an intriguing fixture.

UNITED'S HISTORY BOYS TOPPLE PSG

Manchester United completed one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the club on Wednesday night, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men won 3-1 against Paris Saint-Germain to progress to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on away goals.

The Reds trailed 2-0 after the first leg, but took themselves within one goal of an amazing victory thanks to two first-half goals from Romelu Lukaku. Then, in the 94th minute, a dramatic VAR-assisted penalty – blasted home by Marcus Rashford – drew the tie level on aggregate, with United boasting the crucial extra away goal.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game about his tie-winning penalty, Rashford revealed: “I was just thinking: keep a cool head, you know? They are the type of things you practice every day. I wanted to take it, and probably other people on the pitch [did] as well, but it doesn't matter because we've progressed to the next round!

“That's probably the hardest thing – the wait before [the penalty], but it's all part of the game. Those moments, that's what we live for. You want to get through those moments and be smiling after.”

Romelu Lukaku, whose two predatory strikes earlier in the game had given the Reds hope heading into the final stages, said:

“It was good. We were confident the day before the game. Me and Marcus, in the last game against Southampton, as a pair up front, we knew that we could do the business today too. Today we played together, it was a pleasure to play like that, and we both scored, so we're happy!

“Me and him agreed that when he steps out on the press I had to follow him, and he did well on pressing. It was just a one v one [the first] and the second one, I told him every time he shoots I'll follow the ball as well, and that happened too.

”We just keep going. I think everything starts at the training ground. We do a lot of games – five v fives and six v six, eight v eights – and the competitiveness starts there. We already do great comebacks in training, so when we play the games it's just natural to us. We play until the ref blows the whistle.“

The victory extended United's club record-run of away victories to nine, and also made Solskjaer's men the first team in Champions League history to overturn a deficit of two or more goals after playing the first leg at home.

The win was also achieved despite the absence of ten first-teamers – five of whom started the first leg on 12 February.

Rashford admitted: “Everything seemed to be against us, but like Rom said, we're used to surviving in these moments, and today just proved that one more time. We go forward with this game now, but we can still improve of course. We keep pushing and bettering ourselves.”

United finished with five Academy graduates on the pitch, two of whom – Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood – were making their Champions League debuts. Greenwood – also making his first-team debut – became the youngest player ever to represent United in the European Cup/Champions League.

“It's a beautiful thing, you know?” remarked Rashford. “We've ten players injured, but for them [the youngsters] it's an opportunity to come forward. They've been training every day, and it's what they deserve.”

Marcus Rashford relaxed thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's goalscoring tips that he gave during brief meeting before he was appointed interim boss

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Marcus Rashford a pep talk back in November
* Before being appointed as interim boss, Solskjaer met Rashford at Old Trafford
* After missing an easy chance, Rashford was disappointed against Young Boys
* Solskjaer told him to 'relax' - Rashford was ice cool to score late penalty in Paris

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was still a month away from being installed as caretaker manager of Manchester United when he started improving Marcus Rashford's game.

It began with a chance meeting in a corridor at Old Trafford after the Champions League win over Young Boys in November. United had won the match but Rashford was disappointed that he had missed an easy chance.

'I said, "Don't worry son, just relax a little bit",' Solskjaer recalled. 'Scoring goals was my X-factor, so if I can help and guide him a little bit then great. It will be great to work with such a potential top striker, just on his calmness in front of goal.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Marcus Rashford a pep talk back at Old Trafford back in November. Rashford was disappointed he had missed an easy chance against Young Boys in November

That last comment came to mind in the Parc des Princes on Wednesday when Rashford stood over the penalty in stoppage time with United's Champions League fate resting on one strike of his right foot.

While players jostled and the home fans jeered, the 21-year-old stayed calm to beat Gianluigi Buffon with his first penalty for United.

Afterwards, Rashford's demeanour belied his years as he discussed the most intense moment of his United career. 'It was just about keeping a cool head,' he said. 'That's what you practise for. I wanted to take it.'

The fine finish has shown how Rashford has gained from the former United striker's expert knowledge and club insiders talk of a 'special relationship' between the pair.

Solskjaer has shown enough faith in the player to make him United's first-choice forward ahead of £75million Romelu Lukaku.

Rashford has matured into the striker United hoped he could be after he burst on to the scene as a teenager three years ago.

Rashford stayed calm as he stepped over the penalty before successfully converting it

Talks over a new contract are progressing and he is expected to commit his long-term future to his boyhood club. For England, too, Rashford is part of the exciting new generation.

It has been noted around the England camp that Rashford has come out of his shell, particularly when Southgate's insistence on getting players to mix more means he is separated from Jesse Lingard, his best friend.

Lingard, one of nine injured players left at home on Wednesday, was the first to contact Rashford and congratulate him for keeping calm when it mattered most.

'Rashford Kini Manusia Rp 1,8 Triliun'
Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

Jakarta - Penyerang Manchester United Marcus Rashford menanjak performanya bersama Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Gary Neville percaya nilainya kini mencapai 100 juta pound sterling.

Rashford meningkat produktivitasnya bersama Solskjaer.

Redzi Arya Pratama - detikSport

Manchester - Marcus Rashford jadi pahlawan kemenangan Manchester United atas Paris St-Germain.

"Dia benar-benar mendapat keuntungannya sekarang. Apa yang didapatinya (para era Mourinho) membuat dia mampu menghadapi situasi negatif dan terus melaju. Dia benar-benar pemain spesial," demikian Neville.

Rashford: Mustahil Bayangkan Finis Empat Besar di Bawah Mourinho
Okdwitya Karina Sari - detikSport

Manchester - Marcus Rashford menyebut Manchester United mustahil membayangkan finis empat besar di bawah Jose Mourinho. Rashford memuji dampak Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

'We're in a place that was pretty much impossible two months ago': Marcus Rashford hails Manchester United's 'remarkable' turnaround under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and praises caretaker boss for bringing back attacking flair

* Marcus Rashford hailed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's impact on Manchester United
* Rashford's performances have dramatically improved since his arrival last year
* United are back in the top four race and in the Champions League quarter-finals
* Solskjaer is now on the brink of permanently replacing Jose Mourinho as boss

Marcus Rashford has hailed the impact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had on Manchester United since he replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho in December.

Rashford's performances have dramatically improved since the Norwegian's arrival as United have clawed their way back into the top four race and made it through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

In an interview for the weekly GQ Hype alongside Jermaine Jenas, Rashford applauded the Norwegian for completely lifting the malaise around the club inside three months.

Rashford said: 'I think just his presence around the building has changed everyone really. Even the lady at the front desk, Kath, she’s been working there for years, and you notice a difference in everyone.

'Growing up at United, that’s what the feeling has always been like. Like this. And to have it back, the way it is now, is amazing. That’s without even touching on what we’ve done on the pitch. How we’ve improved ourselves as a team, because that’s where we can still improve a lot.

'But the feeling I have now is all the players understand that. When everyone’s on the same page, there’s no telling how far we can get. What he’s done since he’s come in is remarkable.

'We’re in a place now, in the league, that was pretty much impossible two months ago. So we’re just looking to carry it on now, to try and better ourselves, and look forward to the next season.'

Marcus Rashford has hailed the impact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had on Manchester United. Solskjaer is on the brink of winning the job on a permanent basis due to United's recent form

United's upturn in form has put Solskjaer on the brink of winning the job on a permanent basis. Rashford applauded his manager for bringing an attacking swagger back to the team.

'He’s come in and the first thing he was going on to us all about was about playing forward, and playing forward when you see the pass, which usually, if you look up straight away, the pass is on straight away,' the 21-year-old added.

'I think getting that, planting that seed in people’s minds, now you’ll start to see that people are looking for the forwards now. When the other team have the ball, we have one eye on our defensive duties, but then another eye is on, if we win it back, “Where’s the space? Where can we go?”.

'I’d say that’s been the biggest change, and it’s risky, but it’s worth the risk if it pays off. And if we can do both like the team’s willing to do – the forwards are willing to track back – we can look forward to a lot of the games in the future.'
