Manchester United replace Real Madrid as world's most valuable club despite finishing sixth as Premier League sides lead charge in rich list

* Manchester United first club worth 3billion euros (£2.7billion) in enterprise value
* Enterprise value is measure of how much it would cost to buy a football club
* United and host of Premier League sides dominate Europe's rich list
* Manchester City have edged in front of Arsenal into fifth spot in rankings
* Broadcasting deals for English clubs are major factor in financial health

Manchester United may have failed to finish in the top four for the last two seasons but have been named the most valuable club in the world.

Professional services firm KPMG's latest study has United ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona despite the Glazer-owned club owing almost half a billion pounds of debt.

The rich list saw a number of English clubs lead the charge with six of the top ten richest sides competing in the Premier League.

The English game's growing financial muscle is highlighted in the second year of KPMG's report.

The study looked at the finances of 39 clubs based on their popularity on social media channels, revenues for the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, and success in European competitions.

The clubs were then ranked by a measure used judge how much it would cost to buy any given club as it includes a business's total debt.

Manchester United are the most valuable club in world football according to KPMG

Despite two relatively disappointing seasons on the pitch between 2014 and 2016, United's value surged clear of Real Madrid and Barcelona last year, becoming the first club to break the 3billion euros (£2.7billion) mark for enterprise value.

Bayern Munich remain in fourth place, while Manchester City edge past Arsenal to take fifth spot, both with enterprise values of just under £1.7billion.

Alisher Usmanov's recently rebuffed bid for the latter valued the North London club at £1.54billion.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus and Spurs fill the next four positions, which means six of the 10 are from the Premier League.

In a statement, KPMG's global head of sports Andrea Sartori said the figures show the growth in the game underpinned by the broadcasting boom and more sustainable management models.

Last year's Premier League winners Leicester City (16th) and Everton (17th) are the two other English clubs to make KPMG's top 32, with Scottish champions Celtic being among seven non-ranked 'runners up'.

With eight teams in the top 32, English clubs lead the way, a trend that should only continue next year as the Premier League's improved 2016-19 domestic TV deal is reflected in the accounts, as well as the increased overseas broadcast deals and commercial revenues.

For example, English clubs hold five of the top 10 positions for shirt-sponsorship revenue, too, with United in first place, ahead of Barca, Bayern, Chelsea and Real.

In fact, the Premier League would be even more dominant in an enterprise value table that did not take into account UEFA's five-year coefficient, as KPMG does to establish sporting success.

* Spanish giants Barcelona are the second with an overall worth of £2.82bn
* Business magazine Forbes' 14th annual rich list has looked at the '15-'16 season
* The calculations are based on equity plus net debt, revenues & operating income

Manchester United are now the world's most valuable football club at some £2.86 billion after moving ahead of Real Madrid at the top of business magazine Forbes' 14th annual rich list.

According to Forbes' calculations, which are based on equity plus net debt, revenues and operating income for the 2015-2016 season, United generated some £592 million which saw the Old Trafford club return to top spot for the first time in five years.

Spanish giants Barcelona were placed second with an overall worth of £2.82bn, with rivals Real, who won both the La Liga title and Champions League last season, in third place at £2.77bn, having been top since 2013.

The financial muscle of the Premier League, which is benefiting from a huge increase in broadcasting revenue, is clear as five other English clubs in Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all also made the top 10

Leicester City won the 2015-16 Premier League title and placed 19th, while West Ham United, who have now moved into the London Stadium, are 15th.

Romelu Lukaku move to Manchester United sees value increase 54 per cent to £140m, while study reveals Neymar is worth even more than £198m

* According to Swiss research group CIES Football Observatory, Romelu Lukaku's value has soared to to €158.5million (£140m) since joining Manchester United
* The €55.8m (£49.2m) change in Lukaku's estimated value is the highest rise in cash terms of any player in Europe's top five leagues
* Kylian Mbappe (+€50m) and Paulo Dybala (+€47m) also feature high on the list

Romelu Lukaku's value has soared to to €158.5million (£140m) since joining Manchester United, according to CIES Football Observatory.

The Swiss football research group specialises in the scientific estimation of professional players' transfer value.

In their newest data release, highlighting the footballers from Europe's big five leagues whose transfer value augmented the most in absolute terms since July 2017, Lukaku comes out on top.

Romelu Lukaku's value has soared to to €158.5m (£140m) since joining Manchester United

The Belgian's value has risen by €55.8m (£49.2m) - 54 per cent - in the last three months, shooting up from from €102.7m (£90.5) before his transfer to United to €158.5m now.

Since joining United Lukaku has scored 11 times in 10 games, at an average of a goal every 82 minutes. In his final season with Everton he scored at a rate of a goal every 133 minutes, perhaps going some way to explain the change.

The other big risers in the Football Observatory list are Kylian Mbappe (+€50m), Paulo Dybala (+€47m) and Ousmane Dembele (+€45m).

The rise in Dybala's value is perhaps the most intriguing as he is the only one of the top four not to move clubs. He has continued to increase his value with the largely the same cast of support characters around him, whilst Lukaku, Mbappe and Dembele have enjoyed an upgrade in team-mates.

Marcus Rashford's value has gone up to €98.6m (£87m), a €26.8m (£23.6m) rise since July

Quote:
FOOTBALL OBSERVATORY TOP 10 TRANSFER VALUE RISES

Transfer value trend since July 1, 2017, in €million

1. Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United) 102.7 to 158.5 (+55.8)

2. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) 95.4 to 145.8 (+50.4)

3. Paulo Dybala (Juventus) 113.7 to 161 (+47.3)

4. Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona) 92.5 to 137.5 (+45)

5. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool) 27 to 58.7 (+31.7)

6. Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain) 211.2 to 239.6 (+28.4)

7. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) 105.7 to 131.3 (+25.8)

8. Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) 71.8 to 98 (+25.6)

9. Mohammed Salah (Liverpool) 72.8 to 98 (+25.2)

= Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan) 39.9 to 65.1 (+25.2)
Mbappe, second on the list, has impressed since moving from Ligue 1 champions Monaco to Paris Saint-Germain. The 18-year-old has scored three goals and set-up two more and seen his value go up to €145.8million (£128.8m).

The list is based on the change in value of the respective players, rather than simply the value itself.

Hence Neymar, the most valuable player on the list at an estimated €239.6million (£211m), is sixth behind Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Liverpool midfielder's value has climbed €31.7m (£28m) to €58.7m (£51.8), whilst Neymar's value has risen €28.4m (£25.05m).

Great English young hope Marcus Rashford is also in the top 10. As a regular in Jose Mourinho's starting XI his value has gone up to €98.6m (£87m), a €26.8m (£23.6m) rise since July.

The top 10 in the Football Observatory list is completed by Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne, Liverpool winger Mohammad Salah and AC Milan starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Cristiano Ronaldo tops the Forbes' Rich List of sport stars after pocketing £70m... while Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the only Premier League star in top 20

* Cristiano Ronaldo was the highest-earning sports star in Europe in the last year
* Lewis Hamilton was the only Englishman to make the list, having earned £32m
* There is only one Premier League footballer on the list - Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Cristiano Ronaldo is the richest sports personality in the world, according to the latest Forbes' Rich List.

The Real Madrid striker has earned an incredible £70million in the last year, along with picking up another Champions League medal and becoming the inaugural winner of The Best FIFA Men's Player award.

In fact, such is the Portuguese star's wealth, he is only £1m short of being the most wealthy celebrity on the continent, with Harry Potter author JK Rowling earning £71m in that same period.

7. Novak Djokovic £28.5m

8. Neymar £28m

9. Fernando Alonso £27.3m

10. Usain Bolt £25.9m
Ronaldo is joined by just one Englishman on the list, with Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton sat in 11th place having earned £32m.

And despite the money flowing through the Premier League, there is just one representative from England's top flight, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic sneaking into the top 20 thanks to his earnings of £24m.

Elsewhere on the list, Roger Federer comes in at No 5 having taken £48m in the last 12 months, while Sebastian Vettel is 14th on the list.

There is further British representation from Rory McIlroy, who is ninth with earnings of £37m, and Conor McGregor is equal 18th with Wales international Gareth Bale.

The figures are calculated before taxes and fees are taken into account, with Forbes estimating the total worth.

Manchester United named most valuable football team brand... as Cristiano Ronaldo's stock rises but Lionel Messi's plummets

* Forbes have released their athletes and teams most valuable brands
* Manchester United top the list as the most valuable football team brand
* Barcelona are second in the charts, while rivals Real Madrid are third

Despite not being as successful in Europe and the Premier League as they once were, Manchester United have been named the most valuable team brand by Forbes.

The Old Trafford outfit are valued as the fourth most valuable team brand across all sports behind the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers.

However, they top the chart when it comes to football clubs, with Barcelona second and their arch rivals Real Madrid third.

Forbes have named Manchester United as the most valuable team brand across all sports

The Premier League giants, who currently sit second in the English top flight after their first nine matches, have a brand value of £425million, a rise of 12.8%

Catalan giants Barcelona stock has gone up 5.5% and stands at £405million, while Champions League winners Madrid are valued at £385million, a drop of 2.1%.

Furthermore, after having a fine season for Madrid, guiding them to the La Liga and Champions League title, it is no surprise that Cristiano Ronaldo's brand value has risen by a massive 13.2% to a massive £16million.

But unfortunately for Messi, who was pipped to FIFA's The best men's player award in London on Monday night, has seen his brand value drop by 10% to £10million.

However, surprisingly Ronaldo is only fourth in terms of athletes brand value. Roger Federer tops the charts after a remarkable year, while LeBron James comes in at second and Usain Bolt in third.

Manchester United pip Real Madrid to retain top spot in Deloitte's 'Money League' report after making £581m during the 2016-17 campaign

* Manchester United made a staggering £581million during the 2016-17 season
* The Old Trafford outfit pipped Real Madrid to the top spot by just £1.5million
* It is the 10th time that the Premier League side have topped the Deloitte list
* There was a record-breaking 10 Premier League teams in the top 20 spots

Manchester United have retained their position as world football's top earners, according to the latest annual 'Money League' report by accountancy firm Deloitte.

United made £581million during the 2016-17 season, pipping Real Madrid to the top spot by just £1.5million, the closest margin in the rich list's 21 years.

It is the 10th time the Old Trafford club have topped the Deloitte list, with their Europa League success being crucial to holding off Real, whose 12th Champions League win helped them swap places with Spanish rivals Barcelona.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich held onto fourth spot and Manchester City stayed in fifth place with revenues of £454million. Arsenal climbed to sixth, swapping places with Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus keep their places to round out the top 10.

In a statement, Deloitte Sports Business Group partner Dan Jones said: 'United's ability to retain first position is all the more impressive against the backdrop of the weakened pound against the euro.

'With both Real Madrid and Barcelona forecasting further revenue growth in 2017-18, the battle at the top will likely come down to on-pitch performance again next year.

'With all three clubs through to the round of 16 of the Champions League, it may be as simple as the club that goes furthest in the competition will have the best chance of topping the Money League next year.'

Manchester United have pipped Real Madrid to top Deloitte's 'Money League' report. Premier League giants United have now topped the Deloitte list for the 10th time. The Old Trafford side's winning Europa League campaign was worth £39million. nited pipped Madrid by just £1.5million, the closest margin in the rich list's 21 years

United's Europa League campaign was worth £39million, a testament to both the size of the British market for televised football and UEFA's efforts to raise the profile of the competition.

Unlike some studies of football's finances, Deloitte excludes revenues from player-trading but its numbers confirm several recent reports by other organisations, most notably last week's report on European club football by UEFA. It also underlines the growing financial clout of the Premier League.

For example, Spurs overhauled Borussia Dortmund to take 11th place, with Leicester up six places to 14th, West Ham up one to 17th and Southampton and Everton new entries in 18th and 20th respectively.

Both Leicester and Southampton were buoyed by their involvement in European competitions but the Premier League's record-breaking 10 teams in the top 20 is also a result of the improved domestic television deal that kicked in that season.

In fact, Premier League clubs nearly took half of the top 30 places recorded by Deloitte, with Crystal Palace, West Brom, Bournemouth and Stoke in 26th to 29th place - Bournemouth's revenue of £136.8million last season was £135.7million higher than their equivalent figure in the first ever Money League report in 1996-97, when they finished 16th in English football's third tier.

Deloitte Sports Business Group senior manager Tim Bridge said the 'Money League has a particularly English feel this year' thanks to over half a billion pounds of growth in broadcast and UEFA competition revenues for those in the top 20.

Bridge added that the upcoming auctions for the next cycle of Premier League domestic and international rights, starting from 2019-20, will be 'crucial to determining the long-term composition of the Money League'.
