'He will give huge confidence to the whole team': Dimitar Berbatov backs Paul Pogba's return from injury to provide 'massive boost' to Manchester United's hopes of sealing top-four spot

* Dimitar Berbatov says Paul Pogba can help Manchester United reach the top four
* Though, he does worry he is at risk of picking up another injury after so long out
* The former United star is excited to see Bruno Fernandes and Pogba together

Dimitar Berbatov believes that Paul Pogba's return from injury will help Manchester United finish in the top four after football restarts on June 17.

The 27-year-old has only made eight appearances all season due to an ankle injury that required surgery, with the France midfielder having been out of action since Boxing Day.

However, he is now back in training with the rest of the United squad and will be fit to play when the Premier League season resumes in a few weeks.

Former Red Devils striker, Berbatov, believes that Pogba's return to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side could be monumental for the team, but does worry he could be at risk of picking up another injury.

He told BetfairBetfairBetfair: 'United have had a huge boost in Paul Pogba returning to fitness. It is great news for the team.

'The dangerous thing is that he hasn't played for so long, so hopefully he has prepared well and he will be ready to play at 100% again. Is he going to start?

'I'm not too sure, coming back from a long injury may impact him starting, it will be interesting to see if Solskjaer puts him straight into the battle. I'm sure if the manager asks Pogba how he feels and if he is ready, then Paul will say "of course I am ready".'

During lockdown, the Frenchman has been working hard on his rehab in the hope that he can build upon the 71 minutes of football he has played for the club so far this season when football returns.

Dimitar Berbatov believes that Paul Pogba can help Manchester United reach the top four. Though, he does worry that Pogba is at risk of picking up another injury after being out so long. The former United star is excited to see Bruno Fernandes and Pogba play together for United

Berbatov is also excited about the prospect of Pogba and Bruno Fernandes lining up together for the first time this season.

He said: 'It will be the first time we get to see Fernandes and Pogba play together and it will be interesting to see if they can hit it off, they will have had the chance to get to know each other in training but that is totally different to a game.

'It could be a great partnership and I am sure that Pogba's return is a massive boost and will give huge confidence to the whole team. One player doesn't define a team, but when you have good, quality, confident players putting all their effort in to help the team then you are going to succeed.'

United return to action with an away game against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, which could determine who will finish in within the top four.

Given the importance of the result, Premier League bosses have scheduled the fixture as the opening game on the Friday night.

Berbatov said: 'Make no mistake, this is a massive opportunity for United and they know it. Hopefully, they will be prepared for that challenge because three points are nothing, if they win their first game back and Chelsea slip up then the three points aren't an issue anymore, it can be as easy as that.

'But on the other hand, if United slip up and Chelsea win it will be six points, so they also have to be careful, there can be no room for error.'

'I'm a fan of his ability but I want him to work harder': Graeme Souness defends himself over Paul Pogba criticism and says he gets 'hammered' for discussing Manchester United star

* Graeme Souness admitted he gets 'hammered' for comments on Paul Pogba
* The Sky Sports pundit has been a vocal critic of the Frenchman in recent years
* But Souness defended his comments and claims he is 'a fan of Pogba's ability'
* In the eyes of the former Liverpool boss, Pogba simply needs to 'work harder'

Graeme Souness called on Paul Pogba to 'work harder' to fulfill his potential after defending his criticisms of the Frenchman.

Souness, speaking on Sky Sports on Wednesday night ahead of Manchester United's 3-0 win over Sheffield United, admitted he is 'hammered' for airing his criticisms about Pogba.

The former Liverpool manager has been one of the Frenchman's biggest critics since his return to English football in 2016 and he feels his remarks remain valid as he wants Pogba to work harder still.

'I get hammered for it,' Souness said. 'I am not going to say I am a fan (of him), I am a fan of his talent.

'Midfield is the only position on the pitch where someone wants to do the exact same job you're doing. I am a fan of his ability. But I want him to work harder.'

Pogba started his first game in 10 months on Wednesday – having been plagued with injuries all season.

Paul Pogba has returned to fitness and impressed for Manchester United since the restart. Graeme Souness defended his views after being 'hammered' for his criticisms over the years

It was also the first time Pogba started alongside team-mate Bruno Fernandes, who has been a hit since moving to Old Trafford in January from Sporting Lisbon.

When quizzed on the pairing and whether Pogba can get up to speed of Fernandes, Souness said: 'I get a fair bit of criticism for criticising Paul Pogba but for me he doesn't work hard enough for me. For talent he is right up there.

'Modern midfielders get away with the easy option but (Bruno) Fernandes is always looking to get to those (dangerous) positions, I am a big fan so far.'

Souness co-pundit Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Fernandes, who impressed again on Wednesday night.

Redknapp said: 'I have been so impressed with Bruno Fernandes. He has added X-factor to the team, he looks so comfortable.

'He is a natural leader, does it in the right way and his shooting capability is as good as any midfielder I have seen in a long time. You can see when you watch him closely why he has scored so many goals outside the box.

Pogba was dominant in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Sheffield United and took plenty of plaudits. Souness wants Pogba to work harder as he said he is a fan of the French midfielder's ability

'I'm a big fan. It should be pretty natural for the three of them (to play together).'

The win, which saw Anthony Martial score his first hat-trick since joining United from Monaco in 2015, keeps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in top four contention.

Ahead of Chelsea's visit from Manchester City on Thursday, United are just two points behind the Blues, who sit fourth.

Leicester City, sat third, will be looking over their shoulder at both Chelsea and United having drawn both of their matches since the Premier League resumed. The Foxes have a six-point gap between themselves and United.

Paul Pogba makes U-turn on signing new Man United deal after forging partnership with Bruno Fernandes and being encouraged by improvement under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Paul Pogba is willing to open talks with Manchester United over a new contract
* The Frenchman has less than a year left on his current deal at Old Trafford
* United will likely begin talks with his representatives at the end of the season
* Pogba has previously stated on several occasions of his desire to leave United

Paul Pogba is willing to make a dramatic U-turn by opening talks over a new contract at Manchester United.

Pogba has less than a year left on his current deal — although United can extend it by a further 12 months — and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Wednesday that he hopes the Frenchman will stay even longer.

United have yet to approach Pogba over a new contract but are likely to begin discussions with his representatives at the end of the season.

Sportsmail understands the 27-year-old midfielder is open to committing his future to the club, despite having expressed a desire to leave on several occasions since rejoining United from Juventus in 2016 for a then world record £89million.

He has been encouraged to stay after returning from injury to forge an exciting partnership with Bruno Fernandes in a United side currently unbeaten in 16 games under Solskjaer and playing some of their best football since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

United would have to make Pogba one of their highest earners alongside Alexis Sanchez and David de Gea. He is currently paid £290,000 a week, with an annual salary of £7.75m plus image rights of £2.87m and a loyalty bonus of £3.78m.

Solskjaer was asked on Wednesday about Pogba's contract situation after fellow midfielders Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay both signed new deals.

The United boss said: 'Of course we want to keep the best players around the club.

'Hopefully we can do something. I know that since Paul has come back he's looking better and better. He's enjoying his football and let's see where it takes us.'

Solskjaer also wants to bring in new players at the end of the season and will face one of his targets, Jack Grealish, when United travel to Aston Villa on Thursday.

Villa will demand in excess of £70m for their captain, who scored when the teams met at Old Trafford in December, and Solskjaer knows Grealish will be looking to impress.

'There's been loads said about him and we need to be aware of him, if he's off the left, middle or right,' he added.

'Every time any player plays against Man United it's a challenge because first of all Man United is a good team but also the whole world is watching.

'It's not just playing in front of the Man United supporters or manager or team, it's for himself. You want to prove to your family and yourself.'

'You just keep applauding, it's beautiful… they make me enjoy football!' Paul Pogba loves watching Man United's goal-hungry forwards and is ready to discuss a new deal... two years after the fallout when he demanded they 'attack, attack, attack'

* Pogba has described the football played by United's front line as 'beautiful'
* United's attackers are purring with the club unbeaten in 16 in all competitions
* French midfielder is also starting to show some of his old influence after injury
* It comes with Pogba willing to make a U-turn and enter new contract talks
* United will aim to extend impressive run of results at Aston Villa on Thursday

Paul Pogba has raised hopes he will sign a new contract at Manchester United by saying it is 'beautiful' to be part of an attacking team again.

Sportsmail revealed on Thursday that Pogba is open to discussing a new deal after previously pushing for a move away.

The 27-year-old Frenchman laid bare his frustration with United's tactics under former manager Jose Mourinho two years ago, when he publicly called on the team to 'attack, attack, attack'.

Paul Pogba says he is enjoying the 'beautiful' football played by Man United's forward line. The French midfielder says he just wants to applause some of United's attacking play. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are in excellent form with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial all impressing

But United have been reinvigorated by the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January — with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood scoring 56 goals between them this season — and Pogba is delighted to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side rediscover the club's attacking identity.

Greenwood was on target again at Villa Park after Fernandes had put United in front from the penalty spot with his fourth goal in three games, before the Frenchman himself added a third.

'From behind, I just enjoy it,' said Pogba who was part of an unchanged line-up for the fourth Premier League game in a row.

'I'm enjoying just watching Bruno, Rashford, Martial and Mason and seeing them score.

Pogba has hailed the vibrant football played by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's (right) side as it is revealed he is willing to enter talks about a new contract at United. Pogba is starting to show some of his old influence having returned from an ankle injury

'You just keep applauding — it's beautiful. They make me enjoy football every time.

'For example, Martial scored three goals (against Sheffield United), his first hat-trick, then he goes again. You have to carry on. He wants to take another ball home, you know.

'You have to have this mentality: score a goal and do it again and again. Bruno, Rashy, Mason, if you've got two goals, it's great. But go for three. Why not?

'You have to keep this mentality, keep a clean sheet, too. We want to keep working on this and we have the mentality to do it.

'That's also the mentality of this club, it's always been like that. We're never satisfied with one trophy or one game we win. You always want more.

'That's what makes Manchester United the biggest club in England.'

Paul Pogba 'close to agreeing new FIVE-YEAR contract with Manchester United' after a remarkable resurgence under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer either side of coronavirus lockdown

* Paul Pogba looks set to commit his long-term future to Manchester United
* The 27-year-old Frenchman looked set on leaving the club 12 months ago
* But he has experienced a new lease of life playing alongside Bruno Fernandes
* News of a new contract is expected to be announced at the end of the season

Paul Pogba is reportedly on the verge of signing a new five-year deal at Manchester United, completing an incredible turnaround for the midfielder from 12 months ago.

Last summer, the Frenchman was set on leaving United, with former club Juventus and Real Madrid circling the World Cup winner.

But after working his way back to full fitness and impressing alongside Bruno Fernandes in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's midfield post-lockdown, the 27-year-old will sign a fresh extension at Old Trafford - with the news expected to be announced at the end of the season, according to The Sun.

The report details that United manager Solskjaer is starting to plan with Pogba firmly in his plans for the future.

With Pogba's current deal set to expire next year - though United have the option of extending for another 12 months - a new contract until 2025 would represent a long-term commitment from both club and player.

Aside from a mistake which led to Southampton's first goal in the 2-2 draw on Monday night, Pogba has been one of United's standout performers since the Premier League restarted on June 17.

Paul Pogba has had a new lease of life post-lockdown, and is set to sign a new five-year deal. The 27-year-old Frenchman will reportedly commit his future at the end of the current season. Pogba has thrived alongside January signing Bruno Fernandes in the centre of the midfield. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Pogba would not be dropped on his current form

After playing just twice since September due to a number of ankle injuries pre-lockdown, the three-month break has rejuvenated the midfielder, signed for £89million from Juventus in 2016.

He came off the bench and won a penalty in United's first game back, a 1-1 draw away to Tottenham, registered an assist in a 3-0 win against Brighton and scored in the win versus Aston Villa last week by the same scoreline.

Most notably, however, playing alongside January acquisition Bruno Fernandes seems to have motivated Pogba to get playing back to somewhere near his best form.

On Pogba's form and the potential of him being rested for the trip to Crystal Palace on Thursday, Solskjaer said: 'I've been speaking more or less every day with Paul. He knows he wouldn't be dropped.

'When Paul plays like this, he wouldn't be dropped from any team in the world — France or Manchester United — but he's been out for a long, long time.

'There was a question mark before the game against Southampton but he felt ready for it, which was great, so now let's see how he is.

'He's been fantastic since the restart and brought a lot to the team.'

'Last year we didn't win any trophies and I felt empty': Paul Pogba opens up on his anguish at Manchester United's lack of silverware as he targets FA Cup and Europa League glory with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

* Paul Pogba has spoken out about a disappointing season for United in 2018-19
* The midfielder said he felt 'empty' as the club failed to win any silverware
* Pogba has been heavily criticised for his displays since he rejoined in 2016
* He insists 'the first person to criticise me is me' and is focused on his own game

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has admitted the club's failure to lift a trophy last season left him feeling 'empty' as he spoke out about his critics.

The Frenchman enjoyed a successful campaign on a successful level in 2018-19 as he finished as the club's top scorer - firing in 16 goals from the middle of the park from 47 appearances, but he wasn't able to inspire the team to silverware as they finished sixth.

The Red Devils look set to go three seasons without a trophy if they do not win the Europa League or FA Cup this term and Pogba admits he and the team are hungry for another triumph.

Paul Pogba has reflected on a trophyless season for United in 18-19 which left him 'empty'. The club struggled and finish sixth, although Pogba finished the campaign as their top scorer

Speaking before their 2-0 away win at Crystal Palace on Thursday, he told BT Sport: 'There is a positive pressure on us and we want to win the last three games.

'We want to win the Europa League, the FA Cup. Last year we didn't win any trophies and I felt empty. We just have to keep working to get there.'

The last trophy United won was in Pogba's first season back at Old Trafford in 2016-17 - as they lifted the Europa League to help the club return to the Champions League. They had also won the League Cup in the same season under Jose Mourinho.

He lifted the Europa League in his first season in 2016-17 and says the team want more success

Pogba, who has played 151 games for the club since he re-signed from Juventus for a then-record of £90million - and he has faced plenty of criticism from fans and pundits who believe he has not lived up to the mark.

But the World Cup winner insists he does not listen to the negativity, although he has high expectations of himself too.

'I'm blessed,' he added. 'I'm so happy to be playing football. It's my job to be out on that pitch.

'I play for Man United and people are always going to speak. The first person to criticise me is me.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men returned to winning ways against Palace thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to keep themselves in the running for a Champions League spot.

They had stumbled on Monday night as they were held 2-2 at home to Southampton after Obafemi's equaliser deep in stoppage time, but they bounced back at Selhurst Park - with Pogba playing the full 90 minutes to continue his comeback after an injury hit campaign.

He has played 16 games in all competitions for United this season, with 12 starts and just one goal in the Premier League.

Gary Neville SLAMS 'embarrassing' Paul Pogba for giving away a 'rubbish' penalty for handball... and then pretending it hit his face before being found out by VAR

* Manchester United fell 1-0 behind to West Ham on the stroke of half-time
* Paul Pogba gave away a penalty after a ridiculous handball from a free-kick
* The 27-year-old was criticised by United legends Gary Neville and Patrice Evra

Paul Pogba suffered a moment of inexplicable madness during the first half of Manchester United's match with West Ham on Wednesday night - an incident that was blasted by United legend Gary Neville.

Going into the match, the fifth-placed Red Devils only needed a point to go above fourth-placed Leicester heading into the final game of the season - which is away to the Foxes.

However, the likelihood of that became slimmer on Wednesday after falling behind to West Ham.

Paul Pogba was slammed by Gary Neville after conceding a penalty to West Ham. Pogba was penalised for this handball inside his own area on the stroke of half-time

West Ham midfielder Declan blasted a free-kick from 30 yards out which Pogba handled. VAR replays clearly showed the 27-year-old handled the ball inside his own penalty area

Despite his error, Pogba tried to claim the ball struck him in the face - although it didn't

The Hammers were awarded a free-kick in first-half injury time when Timothy Fosu-Mensah fouled Michail Antonio 30 yards from goal.

From the resulting set-piece Declan Rice blasted an effort towards goal which struck Paul Pogba.

Initially it appeared it hit him in the face - with the midfielder initiating so with some theatrics.

However, VAR showed it clearly and inexplicably hit the 27-year-old on the arm - with Pogba a good 10 yards or so away from where the free-kick initially took place.

United legend Neville was on the co-commentary for the match and was damning of Pogba. Speaking on Sky Sports he said: 'It's rubbish from him, rubbish... it's embarrassing.'

As a result a penalty was awarded to West Ham - which Antonio converted to put David Moyes' side 1-0 up at half-time.

Fellow United legend Patrice Evra was also critical of his former France team-mate in Pogba.

'All United fans would like to see Paul bleeding,' he told Sky Sports as a pundit.

'He knows what he has to do in the second half. As soon as I saw Paul stand up with no blood I knew he used his hands.

'People know he has made a huge mistake. All United fans would like to see Paul bleeding, even if the ball broke his nose. It is difficult to forgive Paul on this one. He knows what he has to do in the second half.

'As soon as I saw Paul stand up and his face was so clean with no blood I knew he used his face. He made a big big mistake. Paul knows and we have VAR, today the one in VAR is not Stevie Wonder so that's why he gave the penalty.'

Luckily for Pobga it didn't prove too costly as Mason Greenwood's fine strike on 51 minutes earned United a 1-1 draw and the point they needed to go into the top four.

kmrn De Gea yg dikritik, kali ini giliran Pogba, ntar kalo beneran gak lolos ke UCL siapa lagi nih yg dikritik? kalo liat gambarnya sih freekick Rice kencang, jadi Pogba refleks melindungi kepala jadinya ketepis, Tofisu & Lindelof aja reaksinya hampir sama kayak Pogba, apesnya bola lebih mengarah ke Pogba. sisi positifnya meraih 1 poin, fokus ke pertandingan terakhir vs Leicester, posisi belum aman walaupun sekarang ada diposisi 3

'I'm looking forward to seeing him grow with this team': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer drops Paul Pogba contract hint with Manchester United midfielder in final year of current deal at Old Trafford

* Paul Pogba struggled with form and fitness for Manchester United pre-lockdown
* But the Frenchman played an integral part as United finished inside the top four
* Pogba currently has a contract at Old Trafford which will expire next summer
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about Pogba and his long-term role in the team

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has dropped a massive hint that midfielder Paul Pogba will stay at Manchester United beyond his current contract.

The Frenchman, who was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this time last summer, returned from lockdown fit and revitalised as he helped the Red Devils finish in the top four.

Qualification for Champions League football, as well as his exciting partnership with Bruno Fernandes, seems to have satisfied Pogba, 27, and with his current deal expiring next summer, a new deal seems imminent given Solskjaer's comments on his long-term role in the side.

'What Paul said, was said before. Since coming back from injury has been a delight,' Solskjaer said, as reported by The Mirror.

'He has worked really hard, he is happy and he is playing well. We are going to see the best of Paul in the next couple of seasons, I'm sure.

'And I'm looking forward to seeing him grow with this team. He will have to be one of the leaders, one of the main figures, because he is just coming to his peak time as a footballer at 27.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about Paul Pogba being part of his team for years to come. The Manchester United midfielder currently has a contract which expires in 2021. Solskjaer speaking about Pogba's long-term role means a new contract could be imminent

'I am really looking forward to working with him.'

Pogba has had a topsy-turvy career at United since re-joining the English club from Juventus in 2016 for a club record £89million.

He fell out with previous manager Jose Mourinho, while he only played twice between September and March due to a series of ankle injuries.

But since the Premier League returned in June, Pogba has been integral to United and has flourished alongside January arrival Fernandes.

The 27-year-old will play a key part as Solskjaer's side look to progress in the Europa League in the next few weeks - United next play FC Copenhagen in the quarter-finals on Monday night.

Paul Pogba announces his new team after sending Manchester United fans into meltdown with cryptic tweet teasing a big announcement… Call of Duty's Verdansk FC

* Paul Pogba has announced he has signed for a Call of Duty team Verdansk FC
* Man United fans were expecting him to reveal that he has signed a new contract
* The £89million man has been continually linked with a move away from United
* There were reports he was ready to sign a new contract with the Red Devils

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has announced he has signed for a Call of Duty team called 'Verdansk FC'.

United fans were expecting him to reveal that he has signed a new contract but were left stunned when they found out what his news was.

The £89million man has been continually linked with a move away from Old Trafford and has less than a year left on his current deal.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has announced he has signed for a Call of Duty team

United fans were expecting him to reveal that he has signed a new deal but were left stunned

There were reports he was ready to sign a new contract with United qualifying for the Champions League last season.

Pogba posted on Twitter on Tuesday saying 'Tomorrow' with an emoji with glaring eyes and revealed on Wednesday that he had in fact joined a Call of Duty team.

Verdansk is the name of a map in the video game 'Call of Duty Warzone' in which millions of players fight to be the last team standing.

Content creators and Call of Duty professionals have joined the same team as Pogba in what appears to be a marketing campaign set up by Call of Duty's parent company Activison.

The £89million man has been continually linked with a move away from Old Trafford. Pogba enjoyed a resurgance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the end of the 2019-2020 season

One fan tweeted in response to Pogba's announcement saying 'Really Paul?'

Another person posted a photo of an angry Graeme Souness who is a former Liverpool player and now a Sky Sports pundit and has been heavily critical of Pogba in the past.

Someone else who may have been expecting a new contract announcement said: 'bro what?'

Pogba had a frustrating 2019-20 season, playing just seven games before undergoing surgery on a persistent ankle injury in January.

But coronavirus suspension allowed the 27-year-old to recover from injury and play an important role in United qualifying for next season's Champions League.

He also began to develop a promising partnership with Bruno Ferndandes in the United midfield and appears to be on good terms with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer once again.

Supporters have been encouraged by what they've seen from the World Cup winner since his return from injury and are hoping he will continue to get back to his best form in a United shirt.
